I would not recommend this hotel. I found a large cockroach in my bathroom, which has never happened to me before as a frequent traveller. The location is decent but a bit far from the main attractions, requiring a 30-minute walk to the Basilica. It was also quite noisy; you could hear conversations from other rooms, as well as the bathroom fan and shower.

The towel situation was disappointing; I received only a small towel, and it was never changed during my stay. While my room was generally clean, it wasn’t cleaned daily by the staff. I had paid for breakfast, but to my surprise, there was nowhere to eat it in the hotel. The receptionist told me to bring it to my room, but there was no space to eat there either, so I ended up having to buy breakfast outside. Overall, it was not a great experience, and I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Basic accommodation for the not too fussy

The walls are very thin and unfortunately had new guests staying next door daily, who always felt the need to carry on with loud conversations, laughter, late at night.
Television did not work in my room.
Clean hotel though, spotless white sheets and towels, comfortable beds, great location. The building is in a courtyard, which makes a little bit of distance from the hustle and bustle of the main road. I would recommend for budget stay in the city, only for sleeping. (If fellow guests let it)

Good position. All in all a decent option. But I wonder how they got the 3 stars. They don't clean the room every day. The shower was slightly mouldy. The wifi unreliable. But honestly for me the only major defect was the noise, which was not coming from the street (the hotel is in an internal courtyard) but from people under my window who decided that 6am is a good time for a loud conversation, amplified by the boomy acoustics of the courtyard.

Hotel basic but excellent vfm. Very convenient for public transport, near to main attractions, shops and eateries. Hotel set back from main road so traffic noise minimal. Hotel has kitchenette for guests with a kettle, fridge and microwave

Get’s the job done!

It get’s the job done.The room was clean and nice, but it wasn’t very cozy. No pictures on the walls or stuff like that and very sterile lighting. But, we weren’t there to spent time in the hotel, so for the purpose of sleeping, it was absolutely fine. The room isn’t soundproof (at all), but they do give you earplugs which we found kind of cute. For reference we only stayed one night, if we had a longer stay maybe we would have liked something a little more cozy.

Free ear plugs

Quite near the Metro but hard to find, you could walk past it quite easily as I did. The entrance is through a black iron gateway with access via a buzzer. Could be better signage as I only just made out the name of the hotel through the gates on the far wall of the courtyard.
The room I had was taken up with two single beds put together which did not leave much room either side, beware of bruising your ankles and shin bones. Storage space was ok. There was no fridge or air conditioning or hair dryer and the TV didn’t work until I had complained about it, although it was fixed quite quickly. The room was dark because of the other higher buildings surrounding the courtyard so I had to keep the light on most of the time with the curtains closed or I would be overlooked. There was no lift but then there were only two storeys to climb with luggage. There was a useful kitchen area for all to use equipped with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle etc although the vending machine was out of service.
It was hot in the room but to open the window meant noise from outside but they did provide free ear plugs and a fan.
It rained some of the time I was there and because of a fault with the roof/guttering torrents of water fell from above, even when the rain had stopped which gave the impression it was raining when it wasn’t.
I booked on the basis that there was a breakfast option at 5 euros extra but this didn’t exist.

Very nice room. Hotel is very close to a main road. This is good because you can get a bus or a taxi straight to the city center. Or you can take the 20 Minute walk there. Either way, perfect location! Friendly staff too! Will definitely be coming back.

Watch out, gate entrance code

The hotel is hidden far back in the recesses of a yard surrounded by shabby old tall apartment houses. You don't see the sign from the street unless you have seen it before and know where to look. Worst is that there is a locked gate. I was not informed that you need to press on # 8 on a code box in order to be let in. So it was my luck that somebody came out and opened the gate when I needed to enter.

The outside appearance of the hotel wasn't very welcoming but once inside it was very nice. The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly and spoke good English. The hotel was located about a 20 minute walk to the centre so ideally situated. The rooms were basic but very clean and there were communal kitchen facilities with free tea and coffee available. You could also bring your own food as a fridge was available for residents.
Improving the exterior of the hotel would greatly improve the overall rating.

The hotel was basic. I booked a hotel with breakfast, but breakfast was a voucher, which cost 5 Euros to a restaurant across the road. It was OK for a our stay in Budapest, but I would have been happier if there was more clarity on the booking especially regarding breakfast. The hotel was off street but not a good view.

Good for short stay

Esprit is a good place for a short stay and is near center of the city. The rooms are small, but well-suited for one making a short stop over or planning to explore and needing room for sleeping only. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.

This place is like a hostel.

They stuck me in a room that was like a hostel. The walls were super thin. Incredibly noisy, the hotel supplied ear plugs. The room had a single sized bed after I booked and paid for a king size. Expedia relocated me to a different hotel.

Budget hotel for budget stay

The price is cheap and the cheap has its own reason. I booked a two bedrooms, and was confirmed they are two bedrooms. But actually when go to one bedroom, you must through the other so called bedroom. The so called bedroom actually is a living room.

Staff are friendly. About 200 meters to a metro station, and 500 meters to a rail station. About 10 min walking distance to Danube river.

Gem of a hotel in a great location

Here's the best thing anyone can say about a hotel -- I would definitely stay here again. Great location, 8 min. walk to Keleti Train Station, 15 mins. down to the Danube, 2 min. walk to several public transports including Metro and Tram. Located on a busy street, BUT set well off it in the back so the room was nice and quiet. Best of all was the Staff -- the gentlemen who manned the Front Desk couldn't have been nicer, more helpful, or more friendly. The room was small, but clean, updated, and comfortable. Excellent free WiFi. A kitchen is there to use which helps budget conscious travelers like myself. Very, very pleased with Esprit Hotel.

The staff were extremely helpful and polite. We arrived 3 hours late for our check-in due to flight delays in the middle of the night (3am) and they were very understanding. They gave us a lot of recommendations for places to visit and restaurants to eat at, which were spot on. Highly recommend to anyone travelling on a budget.

Great location, friendly budget hotel

This hotel was perfectly located for metro, bus and tram lines. 24 hr staff at reception who were all very friendly and helpful. Special thank you to Zoltan who was most helpful regarding bus tours, tickets etc.The hotel has a kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, plates etc. and a free hot drinks machine. I made use of the Aldi, about 400 yards away, to make up a packed lunch to take out with me. Room was clean and well equipped with a great shower. Would recommend to anyone who wants a convenient, clean hotel on a budget but without that cheap feel!

Good value once you locate it.

A simple clean hotel. Easy walk to train station and not far from river
Very hard to find. It is on a major road BUT set back from street with big black iron gates and buzzerTook us a while to find it but to help others it is almost opposite Mecure and very close to Novotel.
Microwave, some plates and cutlery, a kettle and toaster plus a coffee machine were very useful.

I was appalled that firstly i was given a tiny room then only one change of linens in six night and that's unacceptable. ..after talking with management I was given a room with a kitchenette like my confirmation stated. Next time I will stay at a chain hotel where service is paramount. .only good thing is the area is close to everything and a fitness gym across the street was a plus

Great People, Room a Little Damp

This hotel is affordable, and many advantages: the people who work there are really excited about Budapest, knowledgeable and generous with their time. The hotel has free coffee 24 hours in a kitchen for everyone. The downside is the dampness of the room we stayed in. It is renovated and clean, but it is too moist. This is a room for 4 people, and it might be the only four-person room in the hotel. My husband and kids think I am too picky, so keep that in mind. In fact, after a few days, all of my clothes were damp, even those hanging in the closet. I think the reason this is so damp is because it is on the ground floor, which is in this case sort of like a walk-out basement. When you go up to the kitchen, one floor up, there is daylight, and open windows, and dry, breathable air. I did not see any of the other rooms, so I assume they are all as pleasant as the kitchen. If this is the only four-person room, then I think the hotel should just remove that as an option, and turn this space into a terrarium, a garden, or a spa. I do not want to indicate anything other than the location of that room was a big problem. I wish that everyone who runs hotels were as wonderful as these owners. They were actually excited to help with whatever you needed and excited to hear what we were planning to do that day. The location in Budapest is good--close to transportation and walking distance to really great restaurants. Tram and bus and subway all within a block or two.

Nice hotel, friendly staff and nice place to live

I loved the overall experience of the hotel. The room was clean and nice. The staff were extremely helpful and always courteous. I absolutely enjoyed myself and hope to come back again sometime. My only issue was that the internet was sometimes slow. So i could browse like go on facebook and stuff but watching Youtube videos was frequently cutting and buffering, but this was a minor issue

Strange location and difficult to find. The hotel is actually well off the street behind a fence, and the \"historic courtyard\" is not as advertised--it is more like an alley. We did not get the type of room we expected and it was very small and we were cramped for space. The neighborhood is quite sketchy, with bums sleeping on the sidewalks and/or drinking on the street.

Great place, and a bargain!

This hotel was a find - cheap rates, friendly staff, clean, well-equipped room that would have been far more expensive anywhere else. The hotel is close to one of the main streets and near the Opera house which is a perfect location. I only marked it down slightly as the walls are a little thin! But apart from that, a great option

We were very pleased with the hotel and specially with the staff.When we arrived the owner greeted us, gave us all the information about the city, tours, restaurants.The room was a good size and very clean.It has a nice kitchen with free coffee, capuchinos, hot chocolate and you can cook and have your food there.Subway, trams and busses very close to the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel if you go to Budapest.

If all you want, like me, is a place to rest your head after a busy day exploring then this hotel is perfect. If you want luxury, go elsewhere.
My room was a small double but clean and tidy and a lovely powerful shower.
The hotel is set back of a busy road behind steel gates and into a courtyard. It's easy walking distance to the Danube, a steady 20 minute stroll.

Clean and welcoming base for exploring the city

First impressions weren't very favourable. Yes the hotel is in a historic building but it's looking tired and a little unfriendly, but then so is every building in the city! The courtyard with it's closed shops and gloomy lighting creates initial concern but I never felt unsafe anywhere, even late at night or early morning.

Step inside and friendly staff welcome you to a newly renovated corner of this large building. The hotel is compact, modern and clean. The kitchen facilities provide everything you would need for basic self catering, minus a table. Crockery, glassware, cutlery, a fridge, microwave and free hot drinks (coffee, hot chocolate and lemon tea only) are all available.

I woke up after a comfortable nights sleep and on leaving for the day was given the opportunity to buy a large range of tickets for local attractions with no hotel surcharge and recommendations of what best to do. I was even offered a free loan umbrella as the weather was unpredictable. The staff were more than happy to answer any questions, knowledgeable about the city and spoke very good English.

I used the airport shuttle to the hotel (15% cheaper if you pre-book from the hotel instead of paying at the airport desk) and public transport back to the airport. It's a couple of transfers using the metro and a bus but efficient, easy and fraction of the cost.

The hotel is in a developing area by the Jewish Quarter with public transport stops, good food and varied nightlife a short walk away.

The hotel room was clean and spacious. The front desk staff were fantastic and very informative. The only challenge that we had was finding the hotel. If you're planning to stay at this hotel, please refer to the following;
1) The entrance is on the main street and the entrance is the big black iron gates.
2) Press 1 on the dial pad and the hotel reception will open the gate locks.
3) Open the gates and on the far wall you will see the sign for the Esprit Hotel.
4) Proceed to the end and the door on the far left will take you to the reception area.

For the price, this hotel was definitely worth it. However, please note that the shower stall is small.

The hotel is OK in general; a huge benefit is location (just 20 minutes to the city centre) plus nearby public transport links and big choice of pubs and restaurants. One more good thing is friendly reception staff that is always there to direct you or assist in any kind of matter. However, the housekeeping is poor, like really poor. In 4 nights spent in hotel we never got fresh towels, the linen never been changed, non the vacuuming been done and if you go there please don't look behind the bed just to make sure you won't get heart attack xD. However, considering the price, which was £20 per night, we never expected Hilton standards. The hotel is perfect for those who prefer all-day-walking around the city so you go back only for a sleep. But who really cares about it?! You will forget all downsides straight after a night boat ride on the river and you will never forget this beautiful view.

easy and convenient to the center of Pest. The entrance is a little funky, set in the back of a housing courtyard. It's easy to walk past and miss. The room is simple, no frills and clean, the staff are super. The only downside is that the mattress reeked of cigars and the smell came up through the sheets. Other rooms/beds that we checked later didn't have that problem.

A simple but nice hotel

This hotel is very basic, but is perfect in many ways: great location convenient to all of Budapest's attractions, inexpensive, clean. There are no ACs in the rooms, but somehow the hotel was very cool in spite of ~ 90 degrees F outside.

O pessoal da recepção foi muito atencioso e educado. A localização do hotel é excelente, próximo ao transporte público !
Fomos a pé ao Café New York e aí Szimpla Kert! A região é bem segura. Gostamos também da limpeza e do café da manhã, que apesar de simples atendeu ao esperado.

Consiglio: se fate mettere l'opzione \"colazione inclusa\" la colazione deve essere inclusa: se prendo il caffè alla macchinetta non è giusto che io lo paghi, inoltre non considero accettabile la disposizione del tavolo a buffet senza uno spazio per sedersi ma è tutto attaccato al tavolo della reception.
La camera aveva degli spazi minimi e pensavo passasse almeno una volta la signora delle pulizie.

Ideaal gelegen, dichtbij alle bezienswaardigheden.
Geen douchegel aanwezig, moesten ons met handzeep wassen.
Werd de tweede dag aangesproken dat ik moest bijbetalen voor het ontbijt omdat we niet op de lijst stonden. Kregen geen excuses en werden vies aangekeken toen ik onze reservatie liet zien, waarin dit duidelijk vermeld stond.
Ontbijt was niet vers (Lidl-producten), moet je ook meenemen naar de kamer.
Het toilet bleef doorlopen en hoorden raar geluid in de buizen. Kamers werden ook niet elke dag proper gemaakt, of handdoeken ververst. Maar al bij al toch een goed verblijf gehad.

Positiv: zentral gelegen, überwiegend sehr freundliches Personal, bei Bezug waren Zimmer sauber, aber:
Negativ: Zimmerservice gab es nicht, heißt Bad wurde nicht gewischt, Müll nicht entsorgt; Zustand der Zimmer und Möbel katastrophal, Frühstück sollte nicht als solches bezeichnet werden

Problema. Pagué por expedia y luego me cobraron otra vez allí en recepcion diciendo que el pago no se habia hecho. Por la mañana avise al chico de recepcion de que tenia los dos cargos en mi tarjeta. Lo verificó y dijo que me mandarian email. No he recibido ni el reembolso ni el email, ni es facil encontrar email del hotel, ni expedia me permite reclamarlo. Mal.

VANVITTIG BESKIDT OG UHYGIEJNISK

Størrelsen af værelset var fin. Vi har ikke brug for noget ekstraordinært, så 3 stjernet hotel er almindeligvis fint. Hvis blot det er rent. Og det var det ikke på Esprit, værelset var MØGBESKIDT og direkte ULÆKKERT, med et toilet så beskidt udvendigt med flere afskygninger af HÅR, der sad klistret FAST, i hvad jeg formoder er URIN, snask der er løbet ned af væggene, skidt, hår og støv på gulvet. Beskidte stikkontakter, døre der tydeligvis ikke har set en våd klud meget meget længe. Ødelagte gardiner. Og sidst men ikke mindst STANKEN AF AFLØB OG RÅDDENT Vand. Hov ja så er der jo også overraskelsen når man kigger under sengen. Det var så ULÆKKERT. DET ER HELT UHØRT AT RENGØRINGEN IKKE KAN SE DET OG AT DER IKKE ER SAT EN STANDARD FOR HYGIEJNEN.

Het hotel ligt centraal gelegen in boedapest, dicht bij een metrostation.
Prijs, kwaliteits verhouding is goed.
Receptiepersoneel is erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam.
Veilige ingang.

Geen lift.
Gebouw is oud en gehorig.

Ikke helt som forventet, men et ok hotell. Aircondition manglet, men det stod en vifte på gulvet, så lufta sto ikke helt stille likevel. (hadde 30-35 plussgrader hver dag, ikke veldig mye kaldere på natta...)
Samtlige i resepsjonen var meget hyggelige, et stort pluss.

Kamertje is simpel en gehorig, maar de 24h vriendelijke receptie, de fles water op de kamer en elke dag schone handdoeken, lekker fris geurtje en opgemaakt bed maken het ‘hotel’ het waard!
