Excellent location, clean facilities and an amazing breakfast buffet made our stay a delight. The staff couldn't do enough for us they were so courteous and helpful. It was a very good stay and we would not hesitate to stay again. Couldn't fault the place.

Arrived 45 minutes before 3.00pm check-in but they wouldn't check us in early, quoting 'the system' but a couple of other people arrived and appeared to be checked in while we waited in Reception. Room was ok, bathroom good, mattress not the comfiest ever slept in. Room very warm and the a/c didn't seem to be working. Weather was cold so better to be too warm than cold, but it was too hot. Good location close to shops, restaurants. Had a very early flight so they provided a breakfast to go which was very nice - sandwiches, cereal bars, apple, water, chocolate.

Centrally located, great hotel and service!

The hotel was centrally located and very convenient, major transportation were literally right outside the hotel.

The front desk staff was all very helpful and very nice. They were always willing to help anytime we needed assistance or had questions.

The hotel itself was very unique, I love that it has a rich history and its well maintained.

The breakfast buffet was great with many different options. We loved the fresh honey, right out of the honeycomb.

The amenities and toiletries in the room was a great touch and the complimentary glass water bottles was very appreciated.

The big bed and plush pillows were just what we needed after long days of touring the city.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay and I highly recommend this hotel.

Great location, beautiful hotel

All staff spoke English as well as Hungarian of course. The breakfast offered a wide range of high quality food catering for all dietary needs. I particularly liked traditional Hungarian options like pogacsa, kakaos csiga and a langos like bread with topping. The Austrian favourite, Kaiserschwarrn was also delicious, along with the fresh honeycomb and seasonal fruit.
The location of the hotel is excellent, right on the tramline as well as having metro (=underground) and bus links. And it’s also an attractive building inside and out.

I have stayed at the Hotel Nemzeti a number of times and will always choose it. The reception staff are friendly, very helpful, knowledgeable and always will to give time to chat. The catering staff to make everyone welcome and the cleaning staff keep the rooms clean and tidy.

The room was little smaller, but biggest thing is the hotel had shut off the heat for the building.
So even though it was little cold outside, we could not have heat.
It was okay, but would have been more comfortable if we could turn and control heat in the room.

Hotel in an excellent location. At a main intersection with public transportation to any point in the city. Large and well-equipped rooms. There is a pleasant piano bar in the evenings. Plenty of restaurants and cafes and a supermarket nearby. The staff is also helpful in every matter.

Attractive hotel by excellent public transport hub

Attractive building and public areas. Check-in on a Sunday evening very good with friendly member of staff. Bar tender also friendly and accommodating. Not all day time reception staff as friendly.
Room comfortable, but quite drab, could easily be brightened with more colourful curtains.
My room seemed to have a WC plumbing problem with sudden, very loud noises and accompanying bad odours.
Excellent location for all the public means of transport of Budapest opposite the hotel.

From the first step till the last minute
Tiny room, cleaning lady who opened my door twice without notice like it her room and she is at home / the reception stuff - never on their work place , like never. Not pod to opens the windows- the area is exactly near the tram station - so it’s a disaster, air conditioning is old so it’s kind of scary to use it - you never know what kind of dust is there, oh also after I took a shower all bathroom was covered with a water - I needed to use all towels to clean it, there just terrible

Poor comms and unfathomable reasoning

Hotel reception told me and my colleague that our rooms are no longer available , even though I had already paid for one night. Reason was some 'maintenance issues' and we had been selected to be moved to another hotel , due to ' our short stay of 2 nights ' . The staff stated thet tried to contact me in advance but I have checked with no evidence of this while I had been travelling to the hotel. To be fair these things happen, but the lack of comms and reasoning behind our selection was poor. The reception operative at the hotel was polite , but the whole situation was a huge inconvenience at the end of a long days travel for businees.

Close to public transportation. I had a room facing an interior courtyard which was very quiet. Liked the high ceilings in the room. Did not like the musty smell in the corridors. Only hotel I have stayed in so far that was unable to offer early check in.

Tram goes past the front door, subway entrance across the street, and bus stop is around the corner. Multiple dining and shopping options are close by.

Great location for transport and near NY Cafe. Loved the historic building and cute room, but a shame that 'courtyard' rooms overlook an unattractive roof addition, not really a courtyard. At first we had a room with a single window overlooking a shelf of gravel but manager kindly moved us to a slightly better room with a double window overlooking the roof. In the new room, beds were far too soft and sloping, and pillows far too large for comfort, which we didn't realize until bedtime and did not have the heart to ask for another move. In spite of the discomfort, i might choose M again (bringing my own pillow) for its unique character and especially because of the excellent attention from the manager who personally escorted us to our new room, discussed the history and architecture of the building, and was exceptionally kind and friendly. Also, kudos to housekeeping for a spotless room and friendly good morning greetings when we passed in the hall. That small gesture really helps guests feel welcome.

Really nice hotel in a great location. Rooms spotless and breakfast really good. The hotel is like a boutique hotel - lovely decoration and feels luxurious. We didn’t eat there in the evenings as the menu was very limited and a little uninspiring - additionally, there are lots of fine restaurants in Budapest and it’s incredibly cheap to eat out. Bar area small but nice and staff really attentive. Would recommend to anyone.

Beautiful old purpose-built hotel with just 80 rooms. If you like historic hotels, this is a decent choice. Initially we were put in an end room on the 3rd floor with a small window and ugly view. They graciously accommodated our room change request so we could have a slightly better view. Interior of both rooms were cozy and quiet. However, the twin beds (or the mattress toppers on the beds) sagged and were a bit uncomfortable. Also water pooled up in the shower. Everything else was great. Exceptionally convenient transportation and nice to be a block away from the famous NY Cafe.

Personally, it was probably the nicest hotel that I’ve ever stayed at. We were able to check in early for a small fee, which was ideal since we came from the US and we’re needing a rest. The included breakfast was fantastic. The staff was very polite and helpful. I ordered a taxi back to the airport on the second to last day and they had it there early for us. Great all around.

This property felt really short to be considered as a 4 star hotel. The bed is not king or queen. It’s too twin beds put together.

No barrier along stairs - safety issue for aging people when the only lift is out of order.

I loved the location. The tram and bus lines that go around Budapest and connect with other lines in Budapest are just outside the hotel. There are many shopping venues, restaurants and cafes within walking distance. The building itself is in need of \"freshening.\" It needs to update its lobby, the furniture, and the sheets in the rooms. However, the building was immaculately clean. The breakfast was wonderful with many choices and presented beautifully. The staff was excellent! It is worth staying in this hotel for the attention the staff gives its guests. The hotel must have been spectacular in its heyday. It is difficult to judge this hotel more than this. We were only two of only a few of the guests in the hotel because of the pandemic. Hotels in Budapest generally are suffering from a lack of tourism.

I booked Hotel Nemzeti to be in the center of things in Budapest at the conclusion of our river cruise. My wife and I were incredibly pleased with the hotel. First, we arrived early around 10am and they were able to put us into our room early. The property is beautiufully restored with lots of character. Our room had 10-12 foot ceiling and was exceptionally clean and well appointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a trolley stop right outside the front door and you can walk to numerous sites from here also. I will definitely go back to the wonderful Hotel Nemzeti.

The staff tried to be nice, although it would have been better if they could also smile! They behaved as if \"they were following orders, or regulations\". At some point when the heating of the bathroom was noy working, they tried to explain that the heating is turned-on only at certain times, but then they fixed it. They were polite but without warmth!

Really enjoyed our stay at this Hotel. The reception staff were great, always smiling. And they recommended restaurants which serve good vegetarian food for my wife. They always helped everytime we asked for anything.
The only issue we had was that the room next door to us were drunk and very loud (not the fault of the hotel). We spoke to the reception and they changed our room, although is was a twin room as thats all that was available. But we agreed as we wanted to sleep, and they changed our room and dropped off a bottle of red wine for the inconvenience due to other guests. The Metro is literally on its doorstep and very easy to find.

I really enjoyed Hotel Nemzeti. Great location - down the street from the train station, near many other metros and easy to get to all the other areas I was touring. The property was beautiful and excellently maintained. Looked just the pictures, which is not usually the case. The room was on the small side, but very clean so I don't mind. The only thing I would mention is the building was quite warm and stuffy. Needs some better air flow. Otherwise was great!! Would love to come back and stay at Hotel Nemzeti!!

Checked in after midnight. I was told breakfast was included. After receiving my key, I went up to my room and was shocked to find the room was already occupied. After checking into another room, I discovered the bathroom hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned as the previous guests toiletries were still in the far corner of the bathtub. Also, the bathrobe needed to be replaced as it was badly frayed. And upon check out, I discovered breakfast was not included. While this is a beautiful hotel, there are plenty of other hotels in Budapest. I’d stay somewhere else.
