It’s a double standard room but just a double bed and even no table or anything I can put my pizza on. The reception hasn’t tell me need a code to leave the car park when check in so need to go back and ask for it. Overall not a good experience.

Hotel clean enough and can't fault the fact it has a small pool, sauna and steam room along with a gym. Breakfast staff nice and friendly, room was seemed clean. On the downside no for the room, no air con or fan in the room and a lot of road noise especially with window open (still audible with it shut also, despite being on 4th floor). Only two sets of towels in the room even though there were three of us staying in the room. Plug sockets next to the beds but no usb ports. I'd paid for breakfast with my booking but reception said we didn't have it despite me showing him confirmation we did. I had booked through Hotels.com / Expedia and i was told it was there problem not the hotels so that was really helpful !! Car park wasn't the biggest and cost an additional £8 or £9, there is plenty of other car parks nearby which i think cost a similar price for 24hrs.

Great hotel, nice clean room, a bit on the small side but more than adequate for a 1 night stay. Breakfast was quite nice with a decent selection of food. Staff were pleasant although I did have to ask twice for a receipt for a coffee I bought from the bar. The server inadvertently put the receipt in the till and went on to serve someone else.

Rooms were dirty! Stains all over the carpet. Dead flies all over the windowsill.
Locks broken on the windows so couldn’t be opened or closed, just constantly ajar and in a windy area so just a constant whistle.
When ordering food starters and mains came together, and the waitress then said you need to tell them when ordering that you wants starters first….. I mean isn’t that the point?!

Very tired room, TV didnt work properly even after maintenance tried to fix it. Carpet stained, bathroom with lots of damage and generally very poor value for the money charged. Reception staff good. Hotel had LOTS of smashed glass and bottles outside and felt generally very iffy in terms of personal safety. Would not advise single females to use this hotel. It has clearly seen better days but I wont be using again.

Mixed feelings about this stay.
Postive points, room was clean but, the carpet could do with being washed as there were wine stains etc on it.
Every member of staff were helpful and friendly, great assett to the hotel. Breakfast was good too.
Negative points, the aforementiond carpet in the room needs cleaned. The hotel bar doesnt open till 3pm when the hotel is virtually fully booked, doesnt make good business sense and, the bar is closed at midnight bearing in mind, we were staying on a Saturday night. Public toilets could be cleaned/checked more frequently.

2 out of 5 — Mixed Experience at the Leonardo Hotel Middlesbrough

We stayed at the Leonardo Hotel in Middlesbrough recently, and while there were a few positives, overall the experience left quite a bit to be desired.

Check-in:
The check-in process started off well — the lady at reception was friendly and polite. However, she didn’t really explain much about the facilities or hotel procedures. I asked about car parking and was told I could pay on checkout, but when it came time to leave, the lady on the desk seemed confused as to why I hadn’t paid up front. That lack of consistency left a bit of a poor impression.

Spa and Pool Area:
The swimming pool itself seemed to have a lot of chlorine — so much that our eyes were burning while in the water. The young lady on reception for the spa area didn’t seem very interested in helping guests at all. She spent most of the time playing on her phone with her feet up on the desk, which came across as quite unprofessional.

It was also confusing that towels for the pool were kept behind the main hotel reception rather than in the spa area itself — there didn’t seem to be any reason for this setup. When we asked where to return our used towels afterwards, we were vaguely told “over there on the right,” with no clear direction. When we had to ask again, her tone turned noticeably sharp and dismissive.

The ladies in breakfast service were fabulous and friendly, and provided vegan sausages on request, which always makes for a better experience. Not sure I appreciated the alarm in the room being sounded twice at 10.50am as if to say ‘checkout is at 11am’, which we were aware of. Not the greatest location, with those afflicted by drug addiction hanging outside the reception lobby, and the obvious signs of neglect for this once thriving town. I remember the Dragonara Hotel days, when this place was the height of luxury.

Very disappointing on every level unfortunately!

Arrived at 8:00pm, rooms not ready, checked in by duty manager who was family rude, only one lift working so waits if up to 15 minutes per fill, asked for more pillows, twice but never arrived, hall way very noisy with slamming doors and shouting and finally asked for poached eggs at breakfast to be told they’d be 30 minutes so didn’t bother, just not a good experience, chose Leonardo because of previous experiences, they were not like this though!!

Check in was smooth, we arrived at midnight after our wedding and I'd checked in online. I ordered and paid breakfast and overnight parking. The entry way to our room (inside just below the vent) smelled of cannabis. I've been in this plenty of times before and this isn't the first time I've noticed this. It could be a cleaning chemical they use but it was unpleasant to have the smell in the room when we arrived

Booked two rooms for two nights which they messed up. We paid for 6 guests but only received 4 beds for the first night. The excuse presented was that they had a lot of guests show up. Reception staff was not very helpful and tried to tell us to wait in the lobby the next morning while the rooms with proper number of beds were being readied. Overall old property with rude staff who did not apologize for their mistake or even attempt to try to make it right for the paying customer. One of the rooms had separate faucets for hot and cold water. Just a reminder for the management, we are in 2025, change the faucets. Would not recommend.

Staff at hotel are lovely.
Hotel is tired and although bed sheets were clean the mattress was disgusting (I always pull back sheets to check for bed bugs, there were none in my bed, just for clarity).
The mattress was discoloured with multiple stains.
There was no air conditioning in room so had to sleep with window open and it was noisy with road sounds.
The bathroom was clean but smelly.

Fantastic experience

We had an executive room, which was a fantastic size. There was a lounge area, a good size desk, bathroom had a bath with a powerful shower and the bed was extremely comfortable. There was a minibar in the room, an ironing board and iron and reasonable wardrobe space if you were staying for any period of time.
We parked the car in the car park which had enough spaces, even on a weekend although the spaces were tiny and hard to get in and out the car.
The restaurant was quiet (no music or ambiance) but the food was delicious.
The hotel had a gym which looked substantial - unfortunately on this occasion we didn't have time to utilize this service.
Highly recommended and would stay again.

Stayed for a weekend when in the area visiting friends. Generally a nice place, comfortable room and very clean. The bathroom had perhaps seen better days but the hotel overall was fine and parts have been well cared for or updated. Great that it has a gym and pool. Shame the sauna was out of order. Extremely convenient location for the centre and excellent value for money.

Stayed here in business. Middlesbrough does not have a selection of premium hotels unfortunately, the Leovardo backs this up.
Staff are friendly with their service, however, food quality leaves a lot to be desired. The rooms are in need of an update, they are very tired with lots of wear and tear. The gym equipment also needs maintenance, the machines are in poor condition too unfortunately.
