An amazing, grand and still boutique hotel in the heart of the hamlet of Brodick. Our room was enormous, with even larger views. The staff was charming and helpful, from reception to the waitstaff at the rather excellent restaurant. I think this is the place to stay when in Arran. I will be back.

The position I’d the hotel is great - Straight off the ferry - it’s literally opposite the ferry port. Lots going on in Brodick and Lamlash only 3 miles away.

We had the best stay in the Douglas Hotel. The room was amazing. The huge bed was so comfortable. The whole hotel is spotless. The food was delicious. The staff were so unbelievably helpful and friendly. We cannot fault one thing in the hotel. Being very close to the ferry terminal was also an added bonus for us arriving late at night during a storm. I would thoroughly recommend staying here. We would definitely return here again. My husband & I have just returned from a 3 night break in The Douglas. He had booked the hotel and I expected it to be pleasant and clean but perhaps ‘traditional’ and possibly a little reserved. Our experience far exceeded our expectations!!
We were greeted with a very warm welcome from Holly on reception; the room was beautifully clean & tastefully decorated and felt just the quality and ambience you would hope for a getaway treat.
The food was amazing - from the gorgeous heartwarming breakfast to the best (Brazilian) Prawn Curry I have ever tasted.
The restaurant & bar staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A particular shout out to Nicol, who was great, but there were many more who we just didn’t catch their names. Thank you to you all for looking after us so well!
We had a wet and windy 3 days on Arran but actually the hotel, with its lovely vibe, really made our stay fantastic. I would rate it 5 stars + and recommend it to anyone visiting the island. A wonderful experience. Thank you once again to all the staff at The Douglas for making our stay so special!

A lovely place to stay

This was a lovely comfy hotel with great service and nice places to eat. Nothing I didn’t like about it and really close to the ferry terminal and other key places on Arran. We felt so looked after and relaxed whilst we were there. Whilst I was booking this I wasn’t bothered about if the hotel had an on-site restaurant but it turned out it was very hard to get a place to eat anywhere you weren’t staying on Arran due to staff shortages everywhere so this ended up being unexpectedly beneficial (plus the food was nice!)

Hotel looked like it had been reasonably recently refurbished and was in good condition with a spacious room.
Having stayed in a number of hotels around Scotland recently of similar standard the room rate was on the pricey side in comparison. The only other thing was even without COVID concerns the tables in the bistro were too close and even more so considering current concerns

We had a fantastic stay at the Douglas Hotel; taking two rooms for two nights to celebrate my birthday. The staff were extremely helpful (especially Dawn on reception) and the rooms were lovely.
The only thing I could suggest to improve on a great stay would have been aircon - it was hot and uncomfortable at night.

We travelled up by Boat (Rib) and landed in Brodick.....It is difficult landing by private boat as there are no facilities....but the hotel....Wsa great , first class in every way, Receptionists was superb and cheery and so helpful.... The rooms were beautiful and had great style and comfort. Well worth the stay if ever in Brodick.... Arran is beautiful and well worth the trip.....

We stayed in the Banner lodge, which is part of the Douglas hotel. We were delighted with it. It is beautiful inside with a large living room with two large sofas, and a tv. Plenty of room to spread out. There is a spiral staircase in the centre leading to a beautiful mezzanine bedroom with a very comfy double bed with lots of pillows . There is another small room off the living room with 2 single beds , and the bathroom is also off the living room. It is a very modern wet room with Arran Aromatics toiletries, but unfortunately the floor stayed very wet after our showers. However we still enjoyed our stay regardless. There is no kitchen in the lodge, but there is a kettle , cups and glasses. You take breakfast in the hotel.

We loved the rooms-very clean, spacious and modern. We liked the bar and the evening menu. The breakfast in the bistro was delicious. The staff were very pleasant. The location of the hotel couldn’t be any closer to the ferry terminal.
We would have liked to have had more of a sea view but we did appreciate the little view that we did have and the quietness of our room location.
We would have loved it if the weather had been drier but that’s out of everyone’s control.

Nice place but room so dark as to be unusable.

This hotel is fine place to stay. It looks good, the service is nice, the staff is friendly, the food in the restaurant is quite good....BUT it has one HUGE negative! The room was SO dark that you can't be in them. The bathroom is so dark you can't even comb your hair in the mirror, let alone put on makeup. There are exactly three lights (two bedside focused halogen and one \"mood\" lighted ceiling fixture) in the room. The bedside lamps are so low they can't be used for reading. It is just weird....the room is freshly updated....but whoever did it clearly has never stayed in a hotel room. There is even a nice chair to sit in, but no light anywhere near it. A sad waste of money on the part of the owners. If you can see in the dark...it is a nice place. Also, just FYI - I stayed in room \"002\".

Pretty Much Faultless

There are lots of supposedly high quality hotels out there that look good at first but, just under the surface, soon fall apart. The Douglas Hotel is not one of them. Our room was huge, scrupulously clean, had a large Smart TV and had two large radiators that willingly produced heat day and night. Furthermore, here was ample hot water at all times for the bath and the wifi was of good quality. The breakfast was about as well cooked as you could possibly hope for (and that applies to the veggie full Scottish too) and the kippers were the best ever. Overall the hotel was excellent and the island wonderful, although a tad on the quiet side if you want to go clubbing or be continuously entertained by tourist attractions (which is more than likely what most folk who want to visit Arran crave)!

Very good boutique hotel. Perhaps a little on the expensive side but it is well-appointed. Staff very accommodating and pleasant. Our room (110) was a little on the dark side but otherwise clean and functional. A couple of hiccoughs with service in the Bistro where food ordered did not arrive but otherwise very happy with the quality of meals.

Fire alarm accidentally activated during our stay but staff unable to de-activate for 30 minutes- no apology or offer of any compensation for a disturbed night. Bar food very poor and not good value. Bistro food satisfactory but no atmosphere in the bistro. Bathroom half cleaned one day - cloth and new bin bag left on floor and bin not emptied

We had the most perfect stay in this beautiful hotel! We stayed for three nights in the balcony suite where we enjoyed the best views on the island! Fancy being able to see Goatfell from the bath!! The weather helped make this the perfect holiday. The attention to detail in every area of The Douglas Hotel is very impressive. Our duck has pride of place in our bath room now!

Beautifully modernised hotel conveniently located in BrodIick across the road from the ferry terminal with Co-op adjacent and other shops within walking distance. Brodick Castle and Glen Rosa campsite start points for hill walks 2 miles away. Rooms are modern and immaculate with smart flat panel TV, comfortable bed and hot beverage facility, iron and board Shower over high awkward sided bath with Arran aromatic toiletries. A lift to access the two upper floors.Friendly attentive staff. Excellently presented and tasty food in Bistro and pub with outdoor dining on sunny days with views of bay Free wi-fi throughout, even outside. Free parking. Not aimed at family market but couples and not cheap but worth it.

The Rooms at the Douglas are superb, we had 105, no view to speak of. But the room is well appointed with all the facilities you require. The dining areas are ok, as you would expect for a mid range hotel. Bar was busy and clearly popular. Recent modernisation in a contemporary fashion was obvious, a great deal of money had been spent. Not a cheap hotel mid £150s for a night you expect some degree of opulence! On the sea front in Brodick, it is a 5min walk to the ferry terminal and local coop. Several shops and coffee shops also along the sea front and an easy walk.

Excellent base for exploring Arran

A pleasant, well-positioned hotel of some historical significance a minute's walk from the seafront and Brodick ferry terminal and hence a useful base for exploring Arran. Our bedroom was very large and well-equipped, so too was the bathroom. There were some nice touches: the decor, the plastic duck my daughter could keep, the good quality shampoo and shower gel, the bathrobes and slippers, the immense television screen (though personally I dislike television). The bed was, well, rather lumpy and the duvet far too hot, probably because it was made of artificial fibres. Turn the mattress, guys, or change it! There was a very pleasant pub with good views on he ground floor, there was a good range of beers and wines and the food was good but not exceptional and priced moderately. Reception was friendly and helpful and the service throughout our stay good. I would certainly stay there again, and hope in better weather (even the Douglas can't control that!)

Booked the Banner Lodge as I had stayed in the Douglas many years ago and was keen to go back after the refurbishment. The lodge provided the accomdation for a family of four to stay together. The Lodge is a beautifully rennovated little cottage that provided the privacy and space you would get from a holiday let, also allowing hot drink facilities. Lots of lovely little touches that made our stay comfortable. The children loved the space and the mezzanine bedroom is beautifully done - it does get a little warm up there at night! We really enjoyed our stay with the benefit of all the hotel facilities should we want them. The bistro for dinner was wonderful.
My only slight negatives were the bathroom. It is a wetroom and lacked the luxury feel of the rest of the lodge - and the shower is really poor with either hot water or pressure. The boiler is also situated in the mezzanine bedroom and is a little noisy.
I would definitely recommend the Lodge or the hotel itself. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming and it is positioned well to explore the wonderful Island of Arran.

Excellent hotel

The hotel was amazing although we did complain about the view into a back yard that had rubbish in it and was overgrown by weeds. We were immediately upgraded to a sea view room.The staff are very friendly and the food was superb. I would certainly recommend this hotel on the beautiful isle of Arran.

Great hotel!

My partner and I had a lovely stay at the Douglas Hotel for a Valentine’s treat. On arrival the friendly receptionist greeted us and advised that we’d been upgraded to one of the sea view executive suites! What a nice surprise. The room was great, so spacious, plush pillows and comfortable bed. The bathroom was very big, all modern and Arran Aromatics toiletries. The bar had a great buzz about it in the evening and a smashing selection of gins. Tastefully decorated throughout, would recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend break!
