From stepping in to reception area we received a warm welcome both by staff and an engaging fire set within a characteristic fireplace.
It’s an aged hotel/Manor House with lots of charm, wood panelling, beautiful staircase.
Cleanliness was superb along with the standard of food. We enjoyed a perfect stay!

Nice overnight break

Hotel was very clean although a little dated. All the staff are very friendly, Food was really nice, not a huge choice for evening meals but there was still enough choice for us. We originally came for afternoon tea and decided to stay the night. We stayed in the 4 poster bed room. It was very spacious & clean although the bed wasn't very comfortable

I booked the hotel for my honeymoon when booking I sent the hotel an email explaining it was my honeymoon and what time could I check in and few other questions about the place . My email was ignored . Upon arrival I checked in went to room and I was shocked as such a beautiful old building has not been well maintained. Paintwork is shabby the shower on off valve fell off also the soap dispenser fell of the wall while I was showering hitting my foot . Went to leave the room and the lock was broke . They did come straight out and fix it but still not great looked like it has been fixed that many times it’s had it . Apart from that the drinks we had were nice great range breakfast in the morning was great full English coffee and toast fresh juice just what was needed

The ceiling in the room was mouldy and sagging as if had water behind it. Skirting board under the window was rotten and hanging off.

This room would not have been out of place in the 60’s and Faulty Towers. Staff didn’t really seem to care when I asked for my money back.

I was looking forward to staying here after a 6 hour drive, this is a place I would never consider or recommend to anyone. Super dated and not worth the money.

Never again

Reception was packed with kids running about, welcome was friendly. Got to room, ‘bridal suite’ very small and basic but ok. Cobwebs on ceiling and taps on bath and sink broken. Also stains on towels. Worse was NO sleep the room adjoining to next door didn’t close properly they were up all night shouting, singing, arguing. When I say I didn’t have 1 hour sleep I’m not exaggerating. Called down to reception no answer, no one about either. 1.30 am got louder and was like that until we eventually got up and left at 6.30, didn’t even stay for breakfast. Never again. No help, no sleep, no breakfast. I couldn’t stay in the room a minute longer to wait until 8am when breakfast started. I paid £127.50 for the room and I deserve a refund. No one to even complain too on way out. It’s like your just left in your own during the night. The bits in the room wouldn’t have even bothered me but you don’t go to a hotel to relax and get no sleep or no help.

Charming but....

I really wanted to be able to give this place a glowing review as the staff are all really great, but for an overnight stay, it just didn't tick all the boxes for me. Food was very good, staff were excellent, grounds were lovely and it was quiet BUT, decor very dated, bed was seriously uncomfortable, bathroom tiny and shower was little more than a dribble. Lovely place though!

Lovely experience staying at an English manor. It has easy parking and a great garden to stroll on. it is family friendly and we liked the personal touch with video game setup in the room for the kids. Breakfast and meals are available. It is bit remote set in the village and it is not a 24-hour manned lobby so it is well suited for couples looking for a quiet time./

Very Good Overall

Our stay was very comfortable with the staff being extremely helpful and pleasant. Our room was very good although the steps in the room up to the bathroom and lounge area were disconcerting and could lead to trips and falls by young or old. The evening meals and breakfast were very good with a reasonable choice and well prepared and served. The parking area was less desirable with very rough ground and lack of organised parking bays.

1 Night Stay in January

Basically the hotel requires some TLC, especially the bedroom windows, they appeared to be on the verge of falling out! Otherwise our 1 night stay was very good, the bed was excellent, comfy and warm. Our breakfast was also very good, no issues really. The 1 one problem was the Wi-Fi, after 30 minutes I gave up!!
We would certainly stay again.

Breakfast was included in the price, full cooked as well as gluten free and vegan options. Selection of cereals available as well as toast, croissants E.t.c. They accommodated us very well, 2 adults travelling with 3 small children. Our room was spacious and clean. Staff were all very inviting and pricing’s were reasonable, would recommend and would like to stay again in the future 😃.

Let down by a raw banger & raw tomatoes

Overall a nice stay but my complaint about the lack of a properly cooked sausage didn’t get an adequate response- telling a chef isn’t the same as - can I replace it with a cooked one! Also grilling a tomato is easy but was unfortunately beyond the capability of this chef. Why does bacon have to be so hard? 2nd day couldn’t take the risk I had the veggie breakfast- actually the sausage was nice but the lack of fried potatoes substituted by 2 very small hash browns (very insipid colour) was also disappointing. Again the tomatoes hadn’t spent any time under a grill. Very few guests for breakfast that day too

Noisy rooms

The staff are friendly and the setting is beautiful. The problem I experienced was noise bleed from the adjoining room. A couple and 2 very noisy dogs. The dogs barked every single time I walked anywhere in my room followed by the owner swearing loudly at them. The lack of noise insulation meant I could hear their conversation bleeding through the wall and I’m sure they could hear me on the phone. It didn’t feel especially private.

I was woken up at 3.30am by the dogs barking again with the owner swearing at them loudly. It made what could have been a comfortable stay in an interesting place very uncomfortable and not restful at all. If the rooms can’t be insulated for sound then dogs should be housed away from other guests.

What a beautiful manor house. Setting is outstanding and would make for a great wedding venue. Staff are beyond friendly and supportive and they are all pet lovers not pet friendly.
The only negative is the bathroom suite was dated and the shower didnt work, but im sure if i had reported it they would have moved us. It just means i could share a bath with my loved one.

Tired & Dissapointed

The building itself was pretty tired looking.
Reception staff were very welcoming (female member of staff).
Room was ok, pretty clean.
Barman wasn't very helpful at all, when I asked what gin he had, he gestured over his shoulder to behind the bar...likewise when I asked what tonic he had. He pointed at the fridge which I couldn't really see into.
There was also no vegetarian option for a breakfast on the menu. The scrambled eggs and mushrooms I had were very over-cooked.

Disappointing stay.

The hotel was lovely looking. We had one of the rooms at the back. The condition of the room was fine.... Nice bathroom but terrible shower. But the smells eminating from outside were awful. Between fish and human waste. The cooking smells were from the huge flue situated on a flat roof, we think. Just below the window. The waste smells were from a septic tank, we think, buried in the car park. It smelt all day. Evertime we went to the room. And the corridor had been sprayed with a strong sweet spray. Maybe to try to distract from the outdoor smells. It didn't. If your staying get a room at the front. The staff were lovely, very polite and helpful. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the food was fine. The breakfast was a disappointment. No plain yogurt, no soya, the bread was awful quality. Service was good the young people running around trying their best. The cooked breakfast was swimming in grease especially the mushrooms couldn't eat it. It just wasn't good enough for the standard of the hotel. No croissants, danishes, no uncut breads. It just felt dated. Parking was good and everything was very clean.

Then we woke up this morning made a cup of tea to then having milk that was sour and was like cottage cheese. We then went down to check out told them about the milk to then have the cheek and say it’s off the heat. I will not be returning.

Normally a good hotel, but poor night's sleep

Stayed here for the Great North Run so a good night's sleep is what you need for such an early start. That didn't happen due to being put in a room over the main entrance with an outer window that didn't shut properly. Their was a wedding evening do on and it was the noise of the music from function room coupled with everyone out side the hotel smoking and chatting loudly, then taxis pulling up till 12-1am that made for a frustrating night sleep. As we left at 6am their was no one on the front desk to explain this too. Room had everything you needed for a short stay however the mattress and chair were well worn and not the comfiest. We stayed last year and were in the rear of the hotel and dispite a wedding on it was a quite room. Think just rooms on the front isn't the best to be in, if a wedding or function is on and your not part of it and need a good sleep.

Grand Manor House

Arrived when a wedding was on, and it was an amazing sight. Driveway leads you to a charming Manor house. N’as busy as it was with a wedding, the hotel receptionist welcomed us with a smile and check in was easy. The hotel stairways and passageways are quirky of such a historic Manor House. Room was clean and reasonable decor. Bar area/lounge is good and staff polite. On such a balmy evening we sat outside for a drink and the waiter chap found us and showed us to our table. We went for the set price menu but worth every penny. Fab value. Wine menu is delish too and good range. Would recommend this to others.
In fact, we booked our wedding reception here :)

Stayed a 2nd time by accident!

I often stay away through the week for work & just book through various booking sites on the actual day. After my previous stay I made a mental note not to return due to the dreadfully uncomfortable bed (room 10) - On first entering the room it looks like a king but then discovering it’s 2 very worn large singles pushed together. There is also no atmosphere whatsoever, the shower has no pressure & the screen leaks meaning the bathroom floor gets soaked. Imagine my disappointment pulling up at the hotel, checking in & finding myself in the same room again. I was too tired & had lots of work to do so didn’t request a change.
On the plus side my evening meal was absolutely delicious. The breakfast buffet is very basic - some cereals, fruit juices, a small selection (3) of yoghurts & a bowl of tinned grapefruit. The cooked breakfast selection was made to order & included kippers or similar.
