The staff was amazing, rooms were very Clean, and quiet. View from the roof top was fabulous, and staff up there serving drinks, was fabulous, she gave us great recommendations for dinner. Check in was great! The breakfast, had a huge variety!! And it was so good, highly recommend it. I will be staying again later this year!!

We stayed here over-night prior to departing the next day for a Princess Mediterranean 32 day cruise. Our checking was VERY slow considering we got to the check in person right away. We changed from a Superior Room and down-graded to an accessible room which seemed to cause the delayed check in. All together it took about 20 minutes to check in. No discount was offered for the requested downgrade.

MY OVERALL RATING: I give it a mixed 3/4 out of 5. Staff was friendly and pleasant. Hotel is located about 25 minutes from BCN airport by cab which cost about 40 Euros. The hotel is conveniently located downtown and not far from the cruise ship terminals, Bathroom towels were \"Motel 6\" standard quality (surprising to see this low of quality of towels here considering the high price we paid for our room). Bedding was nothing exciting, Just plain-Jane.

At check-in you produce your normal passport and credit card BUT they also want loads of personal information too on a iPad like your birthrate, street address, cell number, city, nationality, etc. More info requested than any other hotel we have stayed at world-wide.

Our room was an \"accessible room\" or considered a handicap room. It had plenty of room to maneuver around in if using a wheelchair. Door opening to the room & bathroom were the perfect size. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of room. These rooms have no outside exterior view.

There was complimentary beer and wine tasting.

It was only about 15 minutes walk from the waterfront. Rooftop had a great view of the city.

Fantastic location, tube stop right outside and walking distance to port, Las Ramblas, shops and restaurants. We were greeted by a fantastic male reception team member who was so helpful. Carlos was also fantastic too.
It’s a nice touch to have fresh water and coffee making facilities in the reception area. The rooftop pool is brilliant, a nice bonus to have at the hotel.
We had a triple room which was a fantastic size, lots of space and storage. The bathroom was okay but the one negative I would say is the noise within the room. The windows really need to be double glazed as the street outside is very noisy, especially on a Saturday evening. The noise went on until 5 am And it felt like we had the windows open with the level of noise. Personally for me, the bed was really uncomfortable and I didn’t sleep very well as it was very hard. I do feel that it’s expensive given these negative issues and also the third bed is a sofa bed not a natural proper bed and breakfast wasn’t included in that cost.

I arrived in Barcelona very early in the morning. The hotel staff stored my luggage in a safe, locked location while I toured the city. Later when it was time to check in, the first room they put me in smelled of smoke. When I told them, they immediately relocated me to a different room that did not have any smoky odors. The staff was always pleasant and helpful for my entire stay.

Mixed experience at Hotel Barcelona Universal.
Prior to arrival, I sent three emails (two directly, one via Hotels.com) and only received one reply. The toilet didn't flush properly, and the bath-to-shower lever was broken. The TV remote had no back, and instead of replacing it, staff just changed the batteries. The in-room safe was locked on arrival and didn’t work properly even after staff intervention. The €16 continental breakfast felt overpriced, and Hotels.com offered it at €32 despite a solo booking. No non-slip bath mat—potential safety issue—and only wooden stirrers, no spoons, for drinks. The bathroom had a musty smell when the door was closed overnight, likely due to no window. Inside courtyard rooms are quieter but lack natural light, and open windows let in midges and cockroaches. One of three lifts was out of order. The minibar was very pricey. I was charged a €100 deposit and €6.25 per night tax (still not refunded). No English channels except Sky News. Some photos revealed holes in the bathroom—unsettling in today's climate. No instructions provided for Wi-Fi, air-con, or the safe. That said, housekeeping was excellent and prompt. The rooftop bar staff and the young man near the lift were friendly and welcoming. These issues are mostly minor but fixing them would greatly improve the stay for future guests.

We stayed here for a week and found it minimally satisfactory. Pros about the hotel: very convenient location, right next to an L2 metro stop and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the Gothic quarter; and a decent breakfast bar, including gluten-free bread, croissants and muffins upon request - worth the price if you buy it ahead of time for your full stay rather than one day at a time. Cons: the neighborhood is a bit seedy and down-in-the heels. The “superior” room: Liked that it had plenty of space, a comfortable king bed, blackout shades, combination safe, iron & ironing board, stocked refrigerator and TV that received several English-language channels (though not internet-enabled). Didn’t like that there was a lot of noise at all hours of day and night, both from the street and the hallways (this is a family-friendly hotel with LOTS of small children); no coffee pot, only a hot pot for tea and instant coffee – and after we drank the tea, the tea bags were not replaced; cleaning was hit-or-miss – they regularly forgot to replace soap, towels, toilet paper as necessary. Some disgusting prior guest had left chewing gum stuck to the drawer of the nightstand, and a full day after I alerted both management and cleaning staff to the problem, it was still there, so I had to remove it myself. Bathroom was clean and modern, but had low water pressure and no moisturizer. Overall, we would not stay here again.

Needed a few shirts washed and ironed which was done quickly ( less than 24hours) and delivered by a lovely staff member. On arrival we were allocated the last available standard room which had no window. I am a little claustrophobic and despite there being a pretend window with a light behind it in the room we had to move. There were no superior rooms left either so we upgraded to a Privilege room which was superb. The change was made easily and the room was lovely with views across the city. So make sure to check when booking that you have a window if you want one!
Bed and pillows were comfortable.
Staff were all very happy to help with any query with a smile.
Breakfast was varied and fantastic - highly recommend.
Parking is under the hotel and quite tight to get in and out of but very convenient.
Cocktail bar on the roof next to the pool is open until 8pm and has lovely views across the city.
Location is 10 minute walk to Las Ramblas and the Port of Barcelona. Very convenient location.

Decently located to La Rambla. The hotel itself was very comfortable. It has an excellent staff. Every person we came into contact with was great!
The room was nicely appointed. Every thing we needed!
If I had any negatives it would be that the hallways are very noisy. The doors close loudly and you can hear every conversation people have walking down the hall. I’m not sure anything can be done about that. It didn’t really bother our sleep.

So I booked this hotel and it said free parking as a perk for Platinum status with Hotels.com.
Got there to find there was no parking.
I found the lady at the desk very dismissive of any support I asked for.
Also, I had left my wife in the car as I was expecting to park - I was made to fill out all of the details on an iPad which was not working well & kept typing the wrong letters and wouldn’t delete. I asked 4 times for help and wasn’t given any.
Then - I was made to take the iPad out to the car to get my wife to sign - even though I had asked if we could do this when she actually made it into the hotel.
There is a way of making people feel welcome at a hotel - and this wasn’t it.
So clearly Hotels.com and the hotel need to clarify what they advertise as options between them - as I’m sure the blame will just turn into finger pointing.
However, being supportive and helpful to a customer is the first bit.
A male employee on the door guided to a parking area - which was a cost I handn’t factored under the circumstances.
There were other hotels I would have chosen if I’d known this was going to be the case.
Room was fine. Area was ok.

Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel is in a good location with a metro station directly outside and a 10 minute walk from Las Ramblas and the port. Rooms were a little dated but had everything needed for the stay including an iron. The view from the rooftop is stunning, especially at sunset. Don’t be fooled by the size of the pool though it is quite small, we didn’t use it but would be OK to cool off. Would definitely return and have recommended to others since our return.

The minute I stepped into the reception, I knew it was going to like my stay. The front lobby was spacious and so was our room. The room was modern and had the right storage room in the bathroom and in the room. The king bed was heaven as I slept so well even with my friend sharing the same bed. We walked to La Ramblas area and other areas. Would come back if visiting again.
