Great staff, the So Sofitel brand is consistently good, oh and no late check out charge, always a nice touch not to feel 'fleeced' when the room is most likely unoccupied until long after we\"ve left.

On the positive side: it is nicely located next to a nice beach with calm water. Big pool that overlooks the beach. Staff is nice and professional.

On the negative side,The hotel is a bit dated. And the common area could be maintained better. Rooms could need a freshen up. We had electric issues, phone didn’t work, WiFi was super weak, to name a few things. There is also a lot of mosquitoes and the buggy service that you rely on to get around is very slow, leaving you waiting for a long time every time. Not value for money in my opinion.

We were quite disappointed upon our arrival at SO Sofitel Bel Ombre. Although the official check-in time was 15:00, we were made to wait until 16:00 before being given access to our room. Bagage arrived after 17 15 and left with no battery as charger is in our luggage.

To our dismay, when we finally entered the room, we discovered stained bed sheets and hair on the bed,an unacceptable level of cleanliness for a hotel of this calibre supposedly to be a 5 star hotel. The situation was further compounded by the fact that we had no internet connection and were forced to make multiple attempts to reach reception by phone. When someone eventually did answer, the staff member was dismissive and rude,a shocking first impression that set a negative tone for our stay.

To add to our frustration, we found the minibar completely empty. Not even basic soft drinks were provided, despite our willingness to pay for them. This lack of attention to basic guest needs is truly surprising for a hotel under the Sofitel brand.

We had expected a much higher standard in terms of cleanliness, efficiency, and hospitality. I sincerely hope serious steps will be taken to address these issues, both in service delivery and housekeeping standards. It’s unfortunate that such a poor experience upon arrival now risks being shared more widely, especially as we had chosen your hotel with high expectations.

Good looking resort, poor pool, looks like a repurposed fountain rather than a pool to swim in. Some great staff and some very average, so service inconsistent. Best for couples who want to stay in a secluded part of the island with nothing happening in their resort.

We felt it was more representative of a 4* stay than 5* hotel.
We stayed in a suite, and the room was tired and needed updating. Nowhere to hang towels, plugs not working, no curtains for the patio area so was awaken at first light.
And despite saying there were two restaurants, with half board you had to pay for the other. So you are restricted to the buffet, which is limited in size and the food was repetitive.
The price of drinks was very high. A pint of beer was £8 and a single shot of liqueur was £10 for the cheapest. Meaning bar tabs run up if you want to have some drinks with your meals. There was a bit of upselling throughout the stay for their trips, massages, taxis, dinners etc.
Gym was small and WiFi was weak throughout.
However lovely beach and pool area. And staff were very friendly.

We liked the friendliness and kindness of all the staff we met at the hotel and were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. We would like to thank everyone and especially Raj and Divya for always being there to make our stay completely stress and hassle free, chef Vinay and his team for the delicious variety of wonderful dishes that catered for all tastes and a special thank you for the effort they made to tweak the recipes to cater for my allergies , all the waiting and bar staff especially Jamy who always made us feel welcome and we would also like to thank the spa team for the incredible treatments they provided to make our stay even more memorable .
The whole holiday experience was unforgettable from our cleaner Noora to the gardeners and buggy drivers who were a delight to meet and always had a smile on their faces … thank you, Sam & Ruth .

Beautiful hotel and beach. Staff couldn’t be more accommodating and were so helpful with assisting with baby food. Hospitality was great . A few points, the buffet was nothing compared to other 4-5* resorts we have stayed at across the island, no ice cream at dessert for the children, was quite disappointing. On the last day, staff kept entering our room without ringing first at the very least which was really strange and inappropriate.

Excellent family stay; chef team was brilliant and catered for our very specific vegetarian meal needs throughout our 11 days stay over Easter 2022. The rooms were fantastic and well set on a beautiful coral beach. Highly recommend this resort- having stayed at others on the Island previously.

Сам отель приятный, большие виллы, ухоженная территория. Пляжа можно считать что нет, но это особенность острова. Большой (но достаточно холодный) бассейн. Ресторан работал только буфет. Причем один из дней все было норм, на второй персонал испортил все впечатление, которое только возможно. Час ждали вино, час. Еду, естественно, всю съели к моменту когда принесли. На каждую (каждую!!!) позицию в винной карте говорили этого нет. Через час принесли совсем не то, что заказывали. Позднее выяснилось, что вино есть, если у вас другой официант. Полчаса ждали капучино. Не дождались. В счет сначала включили, потом убрали, но сказали, что на комнату нельзя записать, платите наличными. Потащили разбираться на ресепшн, где выяснили, что забыли что-то прописать в системе. Извинений никто тоже не принес. История о том, как конкретные люди могут испортить отдых, на острове был еще Sofitel, но после этого отменили поездку туда и выбрали другую сеть. В общем для нас из примерно 8 отелей на маврикии этот оказался самым неудачным. А жаль…

An excellent resort. It would be difficult to find anything to criticise about the So Sofitel. There is something of the Tatooine (Star Wars) about the appearance of the single story accommodation, laid out in the beautifully maintained gardens of the site. Being right on the edge of the beach, the sound of the waves breaking on the coral reef of the lagoon, provided a lovely background.
The food was excellent and the staff extremely attentive. Absolutely no complaints there!
Brenda, Raj and the whole staff are to be congratulated on providing a first class holiday resort.

it is very nice hotel, service is good, clean swimming pool, and nice beach view and free water sports such as paddering, kayak and snorkeling. My son’s birthday they prepare a birthday cake for him and put star projected in our room, my son is so happy saying best day ever:) new year gala dinner is nice arrangement, starting with cocktail drink, Oyster seafood bbq and fireworks and after party, very amazing arrangement for a New Year’s Eve. Nice memory with the wonderful hotel we stay. One thing to improve is the 2rd day we didn’t have our water refill whole day after 3 calls, but after complaining they come to refill it.

A resort like no other :)

oooh my word, I lack appropriate words to describe my experience at So Sofitel. It was heaven on earth. The most outstanding services they give is from their staff, everybody is just excellent to mention but a few, Aj, Brenda, Andy, Preya, to the guys who drive guests around. They all made our stay marvelous. I was impressed with the branding, everything is start with So :) so bar, so spa, etc. I think that was so cool. The food was also amazing, big up to the chefs. In a nutshell i loved every bit in that resort. Surely going back one day.

Amazing place, heaven on earth actually...

From the moment you arrive, you not only feel welcome, but also at home. We arrived very early due to the flight schedule but the room was already available and we were taken to breakfast whilst our luggage was taken to the room.
The staff were always attentive, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The location is right on the beach, meaning you were never more than a one minute walk from your room to one of the many loungers that was on the beach.
Free water sports were offered including paddle boarding, snorkelling and kayaking.
Would I go back? In a heartbeat and I absolutely would recommend this place to anyone looking at Mauritius.

Our stay at Sofitel was just amazing. Here the staff really goes the extra mile and they make you feel as a unique and special guest. Everyone greets you with a smile and all staff is really friendly.
We have lost our sports camera on the beach and they have done everything to find it and the next day they returned it back to us which really shows their honest attitude.
The resort itself is really nice it has a huge garden, the beach is quite untouched so if someone likes snorkeling then this is a good spot.
To sum up we loved our stay and we hope to be back soon :).

Fantastic stay

Despite fairly poor weather, the care and service of staff made for a wonderful stay. The lush gardens were also a pleasant surprise. This is the type of place to go to if you want a restful and peaceful getaway. The spa services and sauna are highly recommended. Try to get the half-board rate as iit represent extremely good value.

It was a great place to stay. the room was 5 star plus, and the buffer meals excellent. The service and staff were some of the best I have experienced.
The beach was just OK and the weather was not kind, very windy.
There is not much to do in the area without a car which is a minus.
The spa is expensive but very good.

Probably the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at.

An absolutely amazing stay at SO Sofitel. We were in the area for a mountain bike event and had many strange requests for the hote from laundry within the hour to specific food at certain times...nothing was too much trouble. When we needed early (out of hours) breakfast on race day it was delivered to our room at 5a.m with a smile and additional 24 pack of water for the athletes. Down time was exceptional with the many different beach and pool options , all included in the price, and the food was outstanding- fresh and delicious. Of particular mention the Zen Garden and Pradeep it's charismatic keeper. Also I Rajeev, Christopher and Thimal who were so impossibly kind and helpful. We left with a Continental gold and silver medal and as the team manager I am absolutely sure that the care received from the hotel and staff was a contributing factor. THANK YOU So Sofitel Mauritius, I will definitely be back.

This resort best suits couples as it is remote and your room can only be reached by a buggy or on foot.
It is quiet, peaceful and restful. This is not the place to stay if you are not a nature lover. Lots of creatures & the shower is outdoors. Indoor only has handshower.For a 5 star resort, the buffet left alot to be desired.The quality and variety of the food could have been better. All staff presume you speak French and the glass bottom boat tour was conducted in French. We found cockroaches, geckos, ants and insects in our room each day. The service from the waiters in the restaurant was excellent.

Not a five star experience

Hotel is in a beautiful untouched area in the South of Mauritius. Beautiful beach.
Most rooms are far from the beach and have no sea view. Rooms are very close together so one can always hear the neighbors. Outdoor bathtub in the front of the room is completely redundant - there is no privacy and it's dirty and overrun by insects. Outdoor shower at the back is nice.
Staff is very friendly and go out of their way to please guests, which was a saving grace for this hotel.
Food needs a lot of improvement - breakfast buffet is very small and has no variety. Dinner buffet in the main restaurant also has no variety and food tastes horrible. Definitely not good enough for 5*! La Plage restaurant offers a la carte dining - nice menu and delicious food. Not a lot of variety though.
The gym is tiny and has hardly any machines for cardio and no machines for weights.
Spa is nice - good variety of treatments, nice rooms, friendly therapists.
Entertainment - there is a live band that plays almost every evening at the bar. Their performances are excellent!
Overall: beautiful scenery and friendly staff but definitely not a five star hotel

Check in poor, however, after complaining to the Manager, given a small bottle of champagne as an apology.
The outside bath in bedroom was dirty and unusable and the room was tired and had cracks on the floor and sink and ants in the bathroom and outside shower was cold and dirty. Breakfast was a \"free for all\" and had to ask four times for butter on the table...majority of the staff were unhelpful and checkout receptionist (man) was very unhelpful and rude. Food was of a very high standard. I would not stay in this hotel again. Poor value for money. Very disappointing.

High class hotel with premium services. This hotel is a class apart. The entire property is beautiful and the rooms are too good. The personal outdoor pool and the private beach access is amazing. The services offered are much beyond regulars 5 star hotels. One can spend days in this luxury hotel. The food is amazing. In room servicez the best. Not one area where anything is lacking.. Will definitely come back the next were in Mauritius.

Nice quiet hotel with friendly staff

Hotel has nice facilities and rooms although would get boring if you didn't leave to visit the island. Pool is large and has an infinity edge but only connects with the sea for less than a metre. Food is of a good quality and chefs are accommodating.

We had booked Sofitel So for our 3rd anniversary and stayed from 5th until 9th of Dec. We travelled with a 13 months old and were very skeptical about our stay outside of our comfort zone before we reached Sofitel.

When we reached Sofitel (which is around 40 mins lovely drive from airport at Bel Ombre) they took us for this out of the world \"WELCOME\" experience. Pradip welcomed us in a way we have never been welcomed before. It felt like home already.

The check-in procedures were simple.

The bar, resto areas are all very beautifully placed.

The staff is super helpful in every possible way - Pradip, Chef Vikram, Raj, Neha, Priya (play area), Doc. Hamid, Dinesh

The chef and the staff went out of their way to help me (vegetarian) and my baby with any specific food needs.

The overall experience was awesome and we would definitely be visiting the place again.

If we may suggest out of the travel experience we have. If you could add an element of surprise in the buffet menu with doing more additions in buffet items. That will have guests looking forward to every meals and would be a cherry on the cake

Customer service was great; the staff was helpful, courteous, and friendly. They took pride in providing a great vacation experience. The property was absolutely stunning. If you are looking for a quiet getaway this is the place. The butler service was great and we would like to thank the staff for taking great care of us. SO SO Brilliant. Loved it! Don't think twice!

So if you are studying online reviews you may be asking yourself, what is the South of Mauritius like, how is the beach at this resort, how far from airport, what are the restaurants like, will I like 'the orange and green bright design' rooms. These are questions which we asked repeatedly, and despite some answers in other reviews, left for Sofitel So with a little bit of curiosity whether all will be fine. What can I say?

The South is the real Mauritius. Less urban, less developed, more pristine, more traditional, outstanding warmth and beaches.

The Beach is Outstanding. 6 stars. The best part is that the resort is small, the beach very long, so you almost always have the beach to yourself. The snorkelling and beach activities are free, and provide hours of safe entertainment.

The rooms. Any thing I write will not do justice to the rooms. They are seven star luxury, impeccably maintained, and indulgent in every way. The design is so tasteful, and works extremely well. No photos do justice to all the detail that you will appreciate. Its also very new, so all the electronic conveniences at your finger-tips.

The restaurants. Lets answer this together with discussing the service and staff. Among the best I have experienced. To say that they predict your needs is an understatement. They were surprising and thrilling us every day with their service, and going beyond the call of duty. The special occasion dinner, the special meals, the room treats, too much to mention.

4* Hotel With 6* Service

If you want a quiet, tranquil holiday away from it all this is the place for you. It was just what we wanted but if you want lively, loud and busy - don't bother. The hotel is set within large, lush gardens and the bungalows are hidden amongst it. Some rooms are further away from restaurants/beach/pool - this was not a problem for us as it was nice to walk and enjoy the scenery. There are golf buggies for the lazy people! The staff at this hotel are excellent - always trying to please the guests and they also seemed to be genuine.

We were there for 14 nights and ate breakfast and dinner and occasionally lunch at the hotel. There are 2 restaurants - 1 buffet and 1 al a carte. As with all buffets they do become monotonous but the quality of the food was usually good. The food at the pool bar was good also. The cost of the food and the drinks in this hotel is, in my opinion, astronomical. I feel they overcharge due to the location of the hotel being a taxi ride away from other places. The drinks and food were more expensive than 5* hotels I've stayed in in Dubai.

The rooms are large and comfortable as are the beds. Ours had an ocean view which was lovely but all rooms look on to lush gardens.

The pool and beach area were nice although there were not many sun loungers around the pool. We were often the only people on the beach.

Negatives: Cost of drinks, no air conditioning in our room or fans in restaurants, most uncomfortable sun loungers I've laid on.

Peaceful hotel and location

To begin with the journey from the airport to the hotel will take approx 45minutes and will cost 2000 MUR (about £40) in a taxi or 2100 MUR for airport transfer.

Location - peaceful south coast which in my opinion has more natural beauty than the other parts of the island. Also whilst it was raining elsewhere in Mauritius the Sofitel seemed to strangely enjoy sunshine consistently. The hotel is not near to other hotels, restaurants or bars, you will need to get a taxi or hire a car, but Mauritius is small and you can be pretty much anywhere in an hour.

Beach - beautiful white sand, clear calm sea protected by the barrier reef making swimming safe and enjoyable. There are beautiful corals which are worth exploring. Beware of sea urchins though around the coral though.

Hotel restaurants - both of a good standard. Le Flamboyant provides a buffet in the evening, the theme changes daily. Le Plage has an a la carte menu. It is worth visiting at restaurants elsewhere though for finer dining.

Bar - excellent cocktails but costly

Rooms - comfortable and clean. Housekeeping sometimes forget to replenish stock (shower gel etc)

Staff are friendly and helpful

Service can be slow. Particularly at the pool bar. The staff do not come to the beach to take orders unfortunately

Water sports are free and generally good. I would not recommend water skiing as the hotel shares the facilities with other hotels. We were left waiting for an hour just to have a 30 second ski, waste of time.

NOT a 5-Star Hotel or Service!

(Oct-2014) Immediately we discovered that it had a poor level of staff service and attentiveness. The staff were simply unsatisfactory at all levels from management to the waiters and showed little courtesy or proactivity to make the guests feel comfortable or confident that they are being well served.
1) The general staff hardly had any customer skills and often unable to answer even the most basic of questions.
2) The management appeared to apply little to no effort or urgency to resolve any customer complaints. They were even hardly available onsite to reach them.
3) We had a list of complaints which included:
- rooms not being cleaned.
- Poor planning of beach services. There were no staff working along the beach to help customers if they needed anything, e.g. with towel distribution, drinks, etc.
- The daily activity schedule for sports was not followed which misguided the guests and wasted their precious time. Some events simply kept being cancelled without notice or explanation. Often leading to frustration for the wasted time if you planned your day around the activity.
- Unknowledgeable, unskilled and unhelpful Reception and concierge staff.
- Poor safety on some sporting equipment, like the hotel bicycles, which almost resulted in a nasty accident for us on the road.
- Even some of the SPA staff did not know their skill and had to read an instruction manual during the massage to know the routine. She did it with the instruction manual on my back!

Service an der Rezeption, im Housekeeping und im Restaurant war richtig schlecht. Teilweise 45 Minuten auf Getränke beim Frühstück gewartet. Sauberkeit war auch nicht dem Standard von einem Sofitel entsprechend. Handtücher waren dreckig. Die Mitarbeiter wirkten faul und lustlos. Essen war in Ordnung, nichts besonderes.

Une expérience en contraste… Très bel environnement végétal, agréable plage déserte, ambiance « à l écart du monde ». Magnifique et grande chambre / villa décorée par Kenzo. Superbe piscine d un design très original. L hôtel a été par contre manifestement « downgradé » par rapport à l origine. Les défauts sont multiples. Peu de personnel présent au petit déjeuner / dîner à notre arrivée. Après échange avec le responsable, la situation s est améliorée. Le soir le seul choix possible est le buffet. Il est bon, mais ne pas proposer une alternative est anormal. La carte « alimentaire » du bar n a aucun intérêt. Il n y a aucune ambiance au bar. Le service de cet hôtel n est globalement pas à la hauteur de ce que l on attend. Déchets laissés par des clients sur la plage. Vous êtes obligés de les signaler. Idem pour lampe qui clignote au spa, serviettes abandonnées au hammam ou gel main au hammam toujours vide. Un hammam sur 2 fonctionne : Il est soit trop chaud , soit trop froid : aucune réparation entreprise. Une expérience détestable au spa sur un massage de niveau « 0 ». Je découvre au final que la masseuse n est pas une masseuse de l hôtel. Elle ne connait rien aux massages. C est une faute. Je constate au global que l hôtel est négligé. Le management est absent (sauf à la restauration, manager bienveillant). On voit que cet hôtel, qui a besoin d une rénovation, est en fin de vie. Accor semble avoir réduit de manière drastique les coûts au détriment du Client

Große und geräumige Zimmer, allerdings schon in die Jahre gekommen. Mit ein bisschen Instandhaltung wären viele Probleme gelöst. Im Großen und Ganzen eine schöne Anlage, nettes Personal und gutes Essen. In der näheren Umgebung gibt es leider nichts und man ist auf Taxis angewiesen. Die Preise für Getränke sind unverschämt teuer!

Servicen var generelt af svingende kvalitet. Morgenmadsbuffeten var ikke altid klar til åbningstidspunktet. Vi blev spurgt til hvilket tidspunkt på dagen vi ville have rengøring, men kun 1 gang ud af 7 kom de på det aftalte tidspunkt. Flere ting trænger til vedligeholdelse.

Wir hatten uns für eine Villa mit einem kleinen privaten Pool entschieden. Sie entspricht den Bildern auf der Website und ist wirklich sehr schön. Ein großen Nachteil des privaten Swimmingpools ist dass er nicht beheizt ist und wir ihn nicht nutzen konnten (dasselbe gilt für den Gemeinschaftspool). Bei einem Preis von rund 600€/Nacht muss man sicher sein, dass man alle Annehmlichkeiten genießen kann. Dies hat uns sehr enttäuscht.
Andererseits große Zufriedenheit in puncto Service und Freundlichkeit. Der Frühstücks- und Zimmerservice sowie das Restaurant werden dem Ruf der Accor Hotels gerecht.

Прекрасный отдых на Маврикии

Отдыхали неделю в марте 2019. Как я поняла это не сезон и гостей было мало. В целом отель остпвил очень приятные впечатления. Великолепная территория. Виллы дуплексы, среди пальм, Душ на улице просто прекрасен. Номера уже не новые, но все отлично работает. Дизайн на любителя. Но нас не напрягал. Пляж очень красив. Желтый песок и мыс. На пляже лучше иметь коралловую обувь. Есть небольшой риф и можно поплавать с маской. Питание: брали завтраки и ужины. Все достойно, ужины с разной тематикой, и за неделю был 1 ужин по меню. Подача очень интересная. Благодарность поварам. Единственное, что было не очень комфортно это питание на ланч. На выходные приезжает много местных, и мест в ресторане, который работает на ланч не достаточно. В результате мы ездили за мороженыи и фруктами в магазин в соседнем поселке) Также, мне кажется, повару на омлетах, в эти дни тоже необходима была помощь. Есть детский клуб с няней. Маленький минус- совсем не понравилась еда room-service. За территорией отеля делать совершенно нечего. Если хочется что- то посмотреть, нужен авто. В 40 мин.езды знаменитый Ле Морн.

Wir sind sehr froh, dass wir uns für dieses Hotel entschieden haben. Wir waren als Pärchen unterwegs und haben uns für eine Woche ein Hotel zum totalen entspannen gesucht. Zwischenzeitlich haben wir mehr von der Insel gesehen und würden direkt wieder buchen. Unsere Highlights:
- Sehr ruhige Lage mit viel Privatsphäre
- Schöner Hotelstrand
- Große Zimmer (Bungalows!)
- Sehr guter Service, extrem nettes Personal
- 5* Sofitel Standard Essen- kaum zu übertreffen an
Qualität und Abwechslung!
- Inkl HP ist unbedingt zu empfehlen!

Le séjour a été parfait (9 jours), toutes les équipes sont au petit soin. Sûrement l’un des meilleurs Sofitel au Monde, en. Tout vas bien au dessus de ceux que nous avons pu visiter jusque là.
Emplacement au top, restaurant au top (merci Ashvin et Yohann), chambre au top (merci Carla), un customer service comme j’en ai rarement vu (merci Brenda et Raj, vous faites des miracles), activités parfaites pour découvrir l’ocean (Merci Olivier), kids Club parfait (Merci Prisca et Joeanna), un spa de très haut niveau (Merci Vimla) et une équipe réception qui devance vos demandes.
Donc un grand merci à toute l’équipe et à l’an prochain !

Det var rigtig hyggeligt, dog lidt besvær med barnovognen da vi havde en søn på 2 mdr med. Bortset fra det så var det fint - altid godt med lidt af det franske sprog da alle snakker / taler fransk. Men engelsk duer også meget godt :)

It’s fantastic huge green territory of hotel,great selection of water sports (some of them are complementary) .Good and helpful personal at water sport area. We had HB,food and drinks are very nice. It’s mostly calm hotel for relaxation either for families with children or for couplers.For young people probably it might be not sufficient activities :no night life ,disco or something similar.

Nous avons aimé le calme de l'hôtel, Les jardins et l'amabilité du personnel.
par contre l'établissement n'a que huit ans et on sent déjà qu'il n'est pas entretenu les lampes de la piscine tombent, les dossiers banquette dans la salle du restaurant sont branlant, les baignoires extérieur sont altérées par le temps... bref un manque d'investissement pour maintenir les infrastructures,
La piscine n'est pas nettoyer tous les jours,
Dommage aussi de payer en sus , chaque jour , midi et soir lors des repas 4€ une bouteille d'eau de 50 cl.
Reste un Bon hôtel dans l'ensemble
