The gym wasn't working and when it finally was opened, some equipment was not working and broken.
Waiters at main restaurant are young and inexperienced.
Limited activities, especially when watersports was often not allowed due to weather, even if it wasn't that bad.
When arriving the full-board inclusive options were offered and taken, but turns out what the representative told us as being the \"full cost\" turned out to be a per day rate. I should have checked what I signed but they should learn to communicate more clearly

Es handelt sich um ein 3,5- oder höchstens 4-Sterne-Hotel. Das Personal ist unfreundlich, und oft kann man nicht mit ihm kommunizieren, da die englische Sprache nicht verstanden wird. Beim Frühstück oder Abendessen wird nicht aufgeräumt, und das Buffet wird sehr häufig nicht nachgefüllt. Die Möbel im Zimmer sind sehr alt und in einem sehr schlechten Zustand. Wir werden dieses Hotel nicht weiterempfehlen.

The hotel needs to be cleaned up. The toilet next to the main pool is stained with faecal matter that's been there for a while. The seats in the reception are covered with bird and lizzard droppings. Even the chairs in the main buffet have bird droppings.
The hotel is also falling apart and needs an overall refurbishment or at least repairs

The property is not that well kept, dining option are not great and trying to book the other restaurants is difficult in spite of there being free places. Staff is friendly and helpful but it definitely is not a 4 star quality although the rooms are big. Overall it is too expensive for what it offers.

A very long way from anywhere, there are many more convenient hotels closer to Port Louis. The location is very pretty and green, but so are most of the hotels on Mauritius.
Hotel is getting old and in need of upgrading, very limited restaurant options and the pools were freezing.
Buffet restaurant was very poor quality with very poor service.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms were very nice and clean. The half board food is average at best. The property itself really needs a lot of maintenance and repair. The patio chairs are vinyl and they painted them with black paint that comes off on your cloths.

Great location, however the access was a bit tricky. We reached there in the night and the maps were inaccurate. Staff were very friendly and organized a great Easter egg hunt for kids. Food options can be better and this was mentioned by other guests too. The beach, pool and surrounding area was fantastic, and this is a great base to explore the south of Mauritius.

Before listing those areas where the hotel fell short, its worth mentioning that the staff were very friendly and always tried and help wherever possible.

Aside from the pleasant staff, I'm afraid we certainly didn't have an enjoyable stay. This may well be a good resort for families as there is a big pool with activities and loud music but not for those looking to relax.

Outrigger is listed as a five star resort. This is definitely not the case - more like three star...especially when compared to other truly five star hotels we visited on the island.

There are a number of areas which definitely need highlighting (in no particular order):

1) The food in the main buffet restaurant is of a very poor quality, often defrosted and certainly not fresh.
2) The service at the restaurant is chaotic. Lots of staff running around with no clear system.
3) Main dining hall feels more like a school canteen.
4) There is a restaurant where you can pay extra and the food is better, but service still lacking and often small portion sizes.
5) The beach hut (by the main pool) serves substandard food for a 5* hotel (expect only burgers and pizzas).
6) We ordered two strawberry daquiris and were served iced strawberry from the slush puppy machine. The barman said he could just 'add rum' if we wanted a daquiri! Unacceptable.
7) Rooms were ok, good size but v small tv and nothing in the mini fridge
8) You'll need a car, remote part of the island!
9) Hotel still under renovation

This is a nice resort for those who want a nice experience, whilst having the flexibility of meal plans, facilities and location. The staff were really helpful and always had a smile!! They teied their utmost best to make sure you had a great stay, and if it did go wrong, they were quick to reaolve things in the best way possible. Food quality was really good, however at times it did get repetitive. This was reailved again by a fdw simple request, which the staff were more than happy to help with. This extends to the dinner aswell. The buffet has theme nights for cuisines, thus avoiding repetition on mains and salads. However desserts were generic and much tye same theoughout. It would've been even better if the desserts followed the theme also. But, this could be due to wastage and other more relevant reasons, hence wasn't a big deal for my wife & I. Some staff were incredible - Dinson (manager), diksha (receptionist), Lukhoo (chef), Sheetal (buffet assistant, John & the other waiters/waitresses were really amazing in helping us with our dietary needs, and Lukhoo especially is an incredibly gifted chef! Room cleaning was decent, with the odd time we had to request something. The rooms themselves could've been better if the doors were properly sealed. We used to find ants and the odd gecko which decided to make its home inside ours. Overall, my wife & I had a great stay at the Outrigger and we would certainly consider returning.

My partner and I stayed at the Outrigger Beach Resort from mid-late January. Overall we enjoyed our time both in Mauritius and at the hotel, but there are a few things I think it is important to note about the hotel if you’re planning on staying there.

1. It didn’t feel 5* to us. Possibly when it was newly constructed it might’ve passed as one but many areas are in need of renovation and updates - from the tired rooms and bathrooms to the lobby and guest toilets. Lower your expectations before arriving.
2. It is expensive! I believe this might just be a Mauritius thing in general and not just this hotel but something to be mindful of. Food and drink aren’t cheap and more expensive than the UK. For example a soft drink (e.g. Coca Cola) is around £3.50 - £4 for a small glass. Plan extra spending money, even if you’re on an all inclusive package (there are extra charges for quite a few meals/drinks).
3. The food and drinks aren’t 5* quality. The buffet is okay, lots of choice and some good dishes but can be hit and miss and repetitive. Not worth the money in our opinion but choices outside the hotel are limited from what we could tell, although we didn’t explore the local area much due to rainy weather conditions.
4. Pack a LOT of suncream, and when you think you’ve got enough pack some more. You can buy it from the hotel shop but it will set you back £35 .
5. The beach and pool area are genuinely the best part of this hotel. If you like snorkelling you’ll be just fine with

If I had to change one thing it would ne for the walkways to be concrete instead of sand. The walkways would get muddy and also it means you always got sand in your shoes even when dressing up for dinner.

A lovely hotel. Can walk along the beach or stay at one of the pools. The food is excellent and caters for many tastes. Water is clear and good for snorkelling. Some free water sports including paddle boarding. Glass bottom boat runs twice daily - be sure to book by 9am though. The staff throughout the hotel are so very friendly and helpful. Robbie at concierge offers great advice for tours to take, Megha and Arvesh at reception very helpful, Yan and lots of staff at Mercado and Bar Bleu are great! Close to Heritage golf club if you like a game of golf! Short ride to Heritage Nature Reserve for some quad biking or buggy through the reserve to see the country and red deer, wild boar and swim in the waterfall pool.

Staff doesn't understand instructions. We had booked using two websites for three nights, and same was conveyed at reception. Staff still came to our room asking us to check out after first night. Usually any 5 star hotel reception will call and ask if we are ready to check out instead of directly sending people to force us, and this is when we had already extended our stay. You will have to beg them for free water and until you don't finish the existing stock , you won't get new water bottle. There is zero flexibility in check out time, you have to pay MUR 2000 if you check out after 12. Very hard to get food , as everything has to be preordered the previous day or you have to go for Buffet

A great Resort for a perfect vacation. Stayed for 6 nights at the Junior Suite. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Got a 50% discount voucher at the Spa which was a good surprise. The Beach is extremely clean. Breakfast was a pretty decent layout with options of Indian, Asian and Continental / European. The Guest Relations was very helpful in giving and helping decide the recreational options for us. The Resort is conveniently located - 45 mins drive from the Airport. The only drawback I felt was that the rooms do not have foot-mats to wipe off the feet and footwear before entering the room which just makes the room a little too sandy.

It was heaven! Such a lovely hotel.
The best food we ate in Mauritius. Wonderful staff, particularly the chefs who were so accommodating with our dietary requirements. Constant cleaning and maintenance of the property is done very discretely. I’d highly recommend doing half board as the buffet is incredibly extensive and delicious.
Brilliant kids club, and overall such a welcoming and accommodating place to take young children. Would love to return!

Lower than I would expect for 5* resort

First of all I contacted hotel.com to inform the hotel about my late reservation, upon arrival the room was not ready, it was ready around 2:40pm. Drinks &towels were offered upon arrival and one of the staff gives information about the resort.

The room is well-equebed but outdated. Old furniture and stained curtins, toilet door without lock, but overall clean.

The room that was offered in first floor with a view at a family pool and setting beach area. The A.C. was good, electricity was off couple of times for few second..

Room service is slow for a 5* resort and sometimes no one answer the call!!

The wayer bottles that were offered has to be consumed to be replaced with new one!! Guest should have the right to drink the bottle of waters any time.

Breakfast was excellent. First day tea was served cold and I had to call to be replaced. But in general was the best about the resort.

The setting area at the beach is small next to family poor compard to the number of guests.

The hotel agree to allow 10m late check out so this is highly appreciated.

I was very disappointed with the housekeeping and cleaning on the first couple of days at the resort. I must say that this was addressed when I raised the issue and then new housekeeping staff, Dixsha & Avisha took over and that improved.
The staff at this resort collectively are excellent, friendly and very responsive.
My family & I are avid travelers and have been to dozens of hotels all over the world and the staff at the Outrigger are the quickest to respond to any request that we have ever come across.

Better for families than for couples

This is a resort, so one enters the property, which includes restaurants, a beach and villas spread out across the property. The villas look a little in need of maintenance (despite my understanding that the property only dates from 2014!), and things like dirty plates were left outside on the property for extended periods. It seemed to us that the target market here was families with children (which we don't have), so the pool/beach area was a little bit louder than we would have liked. It was also nearly impossible to get bookings on property. The restaurants and \"free water activities\" (glass bottom boat and snorkelling) were also fully booked - i think families arrive for a week, and just book everything up. Having said all this, we did find a quiet beach area, and it is a beautiful place. We wouldn't stay again, but can see it might be nice if you are coming for a week as a family

Stunning resort and impressive rooms

The resort is in a stunning location and absolutely huge. This is probably the best place I've ever stayed in. The beach is absolutely beautiful and the colour of the sky and sea are stunning. Water sports such as kayaking, pedaoles etc are free. Kayaking above the corals and watching the fishes beoow was so peaceful and relaxing.
The room was large and spacious with a very big round bath that fits two.
We went room only so had to pay for our food which was very expensive. The buffet was £40 a head and not that great. I would suggest if you can go half or full board as there isn't any restaurants around unless you drive. There's a small shop about 5/ 10 minute walk away.

Mediocre stay for a 5-Star hotel

Pros: Great beach location but the weather in the south is always a bit cooler than the north so we did not get to take advantage of all the water sports that were offered for free. However, we did manage to go snorkeling on a windy day. The team at the water sport club was amazing especially Deepak who took care of us on the boat.

Dinner at the Plantation was amazing! One of our best meals we had on the island.

Cons: The WiFi connection is a bit unstable. It goes on and off anywhere you go in the hotel.

Strange concept of not having a central concierge to assist you with restaurant and spa booking. It was a bit confusing having to walk over to Bar Bleu to book dinner reservations at other restaurants but only to be told that Crab Shack was fully booked for the next few days. And massages were fully booked as well. These were a few of the reasons why we chose to stay at outrigger over other resorts in the area so we were a bit disappointed about that. Note to book ahead prior to arriving to the hotel. But for people like us who are not very good at planning ahead, we would stay at other resorts the next time we come back that suits our style more.

A beautiful location, excellent for relaxing.

A well-placed hotel, relatively easy to get to from the airport, close to a National park, and Chamarel and its attractions. Highly recommended also for just relaxing- Overall quiet, ample well-groomed grounds. Mercado restaurant is very good and offers something for every taste. Restaurants close relatively early at night, which is to be expected at a resort.
Lovely clean and well maintained beach with an area for water activities. Cordoned safe areas for children, some water activities are included, and eagle-eyed staff ensure you don't stray into dangerous areas. The rooms are substantial, and very comfortable, good airconditioning, bottled water included, with nice creative welcome touches. Gym, spa and tennis courts.
Highly recommended.

Very nice looking resort if a bit dated, in the nicest part of Mauritius. The water was crystal clear and the snorkeling not so bad either.

Service in the edgewater restaurant was a shambles. Lots a staff but none of them seemed to know what they were doing or how to do it. Orders were usually late or wrong. There seemed to be no one in charge there.

We had booked a bnb rate but were upsold an 'upgrade' upon check in. We were quoted a rate of 1600r 'per person' for this for three nights. I was careful to repeat this back to the receptionist '1600 per person, correct?, I also mentioned that we planned to eat outside the resort on at least one of the nights but as it was 1600 total it still represented good value for three nights. None of the restaurants had any availability except the buffet which was annoying and not really what we had in mind for eating every night. Later we also found out that that the the rate the hotel intended to charge us was 1600 per person per night which is very different and not what what was stated on check in. I asked the Manager to be informed and to rectify the issue. I was told to call back to reception later that day where I was informed the Manager had decided the hotel was going to charge us the 1600 per person per night. The Manager did not put in an appearance to discuss with us or explain. This was very disappointing on all fronts and not what you would expect of an outrigger resort with this star rating.

Great room, food & service less so

Oceanfront room had a great view and very clean, really happy we took this option, so the room gets 4.5 stars. Snorkelling from the beach were excellent too, loved it. Food is where things go pear-shaped: Book restaurants early - tables go quick! Otherwise you're stuck with the overpriced Mercado Buffet - pretty awful. The Edgewater restaurant were ok. Crab Shack and Mauritian night were highlights. If you're not on an AI rate, these are overpriced and of an inferior quality compared to other 5-star Mauritian resorts. Food overall get a sorry 2.5 stars. Overall, the resort is punching above its weight, with some improvements on the culinary side I'd just about give it 4 stars.

Nice resort for family and couples

Quite resort perfect for relaxation and comfort, however if you want to explore Mauritius, the resort is further out and wouldn’t be ideal. The resort has all basic holiday activities, making it perfect for those who want to stay at the hotel.
Me and my husband stayed for 10 nights for our honeymoon and the staff are just the best, providing service and very helpful. Only downfall is the expense, as the food is priced high.

Wonderful for beach Holiday but isolated.

We had a superb time at the Outrigger. We had a beach front deluxe room which was very close to the lagoon, but private ( as the room was on elevated ground and thus we were not seen by people walking along the beach.) We walked by the three neighbouring hotels and saw that the Outrigger was much superior in terms of configuration and beach maintenance. We enjoyed long walks along the beach, snorkelling and a tour in the glass bottom boat. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
We were able to visit much of the island but found taxis expensive,
The meals( other trhan breakfast) provided by the hotel were pricey and uninteresting and access to local restaurants difficult .
It is really worth paying for a beachfront room.
The Jardin de Pamplemousses and the Aventure du Sucre were interesting , but most enjoyablewas the Mahébourg Monday market, and the Les Copains d'Abord restaurant there.

Our stay was fantastic, even though it was the winter season! My wife and I spent 4 lovely nights waking up to the sight of the beach right by our door leading out to the beach.

Dinner was at Mercado Din, buffet style with a good variety to chose from. Good food!

Breakfast was at The Plantation Club with a lovely view of the hills and beautiful birds around you. Full English breakfast..Exquisite!!

Amenities were fine, but the staff were FANTASTIC!! Every single one of them we came in contact with.

We had a spa treatment, very relaxing!
Definitely worth a revisit!!

we checked in at 8pm, the manager included the dinner for us which was a good start. The service we experienced during the buffet made me think if this hotel actually had 5 stars. I had requested two three staff members to give me a bowl and they all just turned a deaf ear. we had requested for a sofa since we had a 1 yr old baby with us to which they again refused, I still don't understand why. the room wasn't even equipped to charge ur phone! the cleanisless was just about OK. the location is beautiful. would definitely not stay here again simply because of the level of their service.

Booked this hotel for two nights as one way to another hotel we had booked for the majority of our stay. Just a two day stay but food is massively overpriced (buffet was cold and not of a 4 star standard by far - over £90 for two with one beer and one water is a joke). One breakfast we were served a raw egg instead of hardboiled. Avoid the fish restaurant at all costs. When asked if we would like to speak to the manager on checkout to discuss these issues we were informed actually he couldn't see us as was in a meeting!

Very nice hotel....right at beach.

We had a memorable stay at outrigger. We booked Junior suit but were upgraded to senior suit and hotel staff did everything to make it a memorable stay. Navasana spa was very good with excellent facilities. Overall experience was very satisfying.

Lovely lovely hotel. Room was amazing and the view from the room stunning. Beach and pool were great also.

Location is great for some of the 'things to do' in the South of the island. However, there is nothing to do outside of the hotel itself or indeed anywhere to walk to so you are totally isolated in that respect, perfect if you like that type of holiday.

Food selection in the main buffet restaurant was wonderful but a little more attention to detail by the staff wouldn't have gone amiss. Minor gripe to be fair.

A honeymoon to remember

We stayed here for two weeks for our honeymoon back in May and had the most amazing time. The staff were amazing, helpful and extremely accommodating, some of which we made fast friends with and still keep in contact with now. The room fronted onto the beach which was amazing to wake up to each morning. The food at the many restaurants within the resort never failed to impress. Most nights we ate at the Mercato buffet which was fantastic and offered great variety with different international options every day. There are an assortment of activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, parasailing, cycling, tennis, boules or gym to keep you entertained and plenty of great spots to pull up a day bed and relax with with a cocktail or two. This an ideal place for couples or families to have a memorable holiday.

Beautiful gardens, miserable restaurant staff.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, although the twin beds requested for my, er, twins were not supplied and they had to make do with a double. The staff mostly just look miserable. The wine waiter couldn't open a bottle of wine properly, and just destroyed the cork in front of me. The Chinese food stand told us that he could only send noodles to the room for room service rather than just prepare them and hand them to us. It's not really what you hope for and a bill for a buffet dinner of £180 for 4 people with a single (small measures only) glass of wine meant that we ate out for the rest of our stay. Special mention has to go top the head gardener and his staff: the grounds are immaculate, imaginative, and certainly the stand-out feature of the resort.

Disappointing new year stay

Went on a family holiday over the new year. Despite contacting concierge and front desk 2 months in advance to pre-book restaurants and excursions was told that this was not necessary. Then upon arrival in hotel promptly told that all the restaurants in the hotel were booked up so we were stuck eating in the buffet everyday, and we are vegetarian. Also unable to do any of the activities that I wanted to such as walking with the lions because it was all booked up.

Mauritians are very laidback and unfortunately this filters through to the hotel. Not really up to speed with customer service and promptness.

The room and facilities were great, the included breakfast was fantastic. The shower and wifi connection were fixed without problems.
The only disappointment was having to wait for over an hour to have our luggage collected on departure. A suggestion here would be to ensure that the concierge gets the correct room number by repeating it back to the guest.

Super View n location.

This is a place to enjoy beautiful sunsets and relax on the beach. Activities are plenty. We did Scuba Diving n glass boat rides. Superb food and superb restaurant services.

The hotel was quiet and our Club room was overlooking the beach. Beautiful, well maintained gardens. Excellent choice of food in the Mercado restaurant.

The only downside was very slow service in the Bar Bleu otherwise a great place to stay.

Positive:Location is very good: close to attractions. Room is spacious.
Negative: room service is very poor, rooms not cleaned for a couple of days, glasses not washed, waste bins not emptied; towels not changed. Not enough sunbeds nor beach towels. Pool bar was mostly closed. Very, very poor food, no choice, no variety, no vegetables. You will be served very late or never. If you come late to dinner you have to scratch remains from plates (very rarely refill) Too expensive for such kind of food: appr. 40EUR/p.p with no choice.
Empty bottles at pool side were not cleaned until lunch time.

nothing justify the price except the location!

The site still nice but the did fake renovation after Movenpick period, bad organization, buffet quality not good, price increased without any reason. There are really a lot of better valuable hotels to go in Mauritius for that range of price! They tried to give a garden view room for a paid sea view room. Not acceptable for that kind of hotel.

This hotel is desperately in need of some improvements. Nice looking hotel on a decent location on the island, the staff brought our experience down. Service was non-existent at times and the food was over-priced. The hotel, with good management, could improve in a year or so.

Very good 2014 Hotel, learning from experience

Arriving from another excellent 5* hotel, we were at first really little impressed, and even disappointed in some instances. We could see the personnel struggling to make things happen. But the general manager was listening to all complaints and took measures to try to make things better. As time went things were indeed improving and with some additional efforts it may indeed be excellent.
Things to notice:
- Personnel were over busy and could not satisfy any request within an acceptable time. Some time they even refused to serve us and asked to come back later. Unacceptable for a 5* hotel. Consequence of their stress is that clients were also stressed and got angry. Solution: Need more personnel.
- There was an evident lack of sunbeds - people were waking up really early to leave personal objects or towels on sunbeds to reserve them. At 8.30-9 am impossible to find any sunbed. Solution: Many more sunbeds and some more umbrellas (lack of umbrellas too).
- Sometimes there was no towels for us. We were explained that it was a temporary issue (broken washing machine), so the direction took measure to solve the issue and started controlling towels provided to people. There was an improvement but ultimately there needs to be more towels.
- Food was OK/good, but not enough fruit choice in the morning, and no freshly squeezed juices - That was really unfortunate.
- Kids club is awful - a TV and few ladies looking bored. Need educative board games, books, learning activities, no TV !
