The bedroom & bathroom were clean & tidy, with a good air con unit in the bedroom. Staff were friendly as well. The hotel is in a great location in Paihia. The only minor issue is a lack of room safe, and the shower in the bathroom could do with an upgrade - just wasn’t powerful enough

Overall, the experience was decent and the atmosphere was comfortable. However, one major downside is that the place is not pet-friendly. It would really improve the experience if they considered allowing pets, as many travellers and locals appreciate venues where they can bring their furry companions along.
Additionally, while everything else was generally okay, the food menu could use some improvement. Compared to other restaurants, the variety feels quite limited. Expanding the menu with more diverse options and better choices would make a big difference and attract a wider range of customers.
In summary, it’s an okay place to visit, but becoming pet-friendly and improving the food selection would significantly enhance the overall experience for travellers.

A really well thought out room first floor balcony. Plenty of space. toilet seperate from shower/spa bath which makes life easier. Air con and tv in bedroom and lounge.Sofas and dining table/chairs. Very comfortable bed with reading lights bedside. Own parking bay. Views straight out over the Bay of Islands and Paihia a very short walk into all the options available for food and trips

Location and room was great, unfortunately our stay wasn’t as enjoyable as it could be. WiFi terrible, nearly non existent and the roadworks which were going on at night were noisey, went most of the night. Hard to sleep. Feel we should have been notified before our five night stay. Because of noise we left one night early.

The air conditioning worked but was very loud. The overall apartment isn’t what is displayed online. In fact it’s very tired and run down. The bed was clean and the linen was fresh, but a little expensive for what it was.

The windows were open upon arrival and there were moths and flies in the room which took some time to catch and release.

It was a good location and included parking. I think in terms of other accommodation I booked this based on the pictures online and was slightly disappointed when I arrive. To a feeling of slightly mis sold

For the three days we were there, the Wifi didn't work. My husband needed to do work, so had to use his hotspot. We hung up our towels to reuse; but housekeeping took them away, and didn't replace them. We had 1 towel between us the day we left. Also, no coffee plunger in the room...just instant coffee:(

This hotel is over priced and dated, the room had the kitchen right by toilet and bathroom w no connecting door so that the kitchen felt like it was part of the bathroom, so yuck! I felt unclean the whole time i was there, didnt want to use the kitchen for this fact! View is lovely, thats about it. I would never stay here again. Pool is not heated and no spa.

Plenty of parking. Walkable to good places to eat or for shopping. Nice walk along the beach.

Room (junior suite 402) was large with a good balcony (although no sun on it in the afternoon) but was a little tired - could do with a few more pictures on the walls and some updated furniture. Good kitchen equipment and good size shower. Door to toilet needs adjusting as the bottom scrapes the floor when opened. Restaurant evening menu was very disappointing so we didn't eat there.

Very tired needing a make over.

Whilst the place was clean, it urgently needs a make over and the rooms are very dated. We were on the Junior suite (401) next to the drive way and swimming pool, and you could hear people talking plus noise from vehicles driving into the hotel. Staff were very friendly, great location but very much in the 80’s.

The cleanliness of the room is usually excellent but a little disappointed this time with the vacuuming. There were hairs and lolly papers in the lounge area that had been missed from the previous occupants.

Three night stay in paihia

This is a lovely hotel right in the beach front. Unfortunately there were really bad storms prior to or arrival and the waves had come over the sea wall into the pool and flooded the basement. This resulted in the pool being closed for our three night stay. This out of anyone’s control but was a little disappointing as I booked the hotel for the pool area to chill out at.The room was very well presented with two twin beds. There is a restaurant on site and a gym. Also very short 3 min walk to restaurants and shops and all the day trips at the pier.

The rooms are always clean and comfortable. We stayed in a king bed room which has a small seating area with a table and a couch.

Needs improvement

We arrived early, hoping to check in, but the front desk agent—who was on a smoke break—told us we’d have to wait. I mentioned that I’m a VIP and that my booking included early check-in, but she dismissed it and suggested we go into town for lunch and return later. After doing so, we were eventually allowed to check in about 30 minutes early. We were also eligible for a complimentary room upgrade. Judging by the number of empty parking spots, it was clear the hotel wasn’t fully booked. When we returned an hour later to inquire about the upgrade again, we were told the only available upgrade would be to a suite, which wasn’t offered to us.
The room we were given had a strong musty smell from the moment we walked in. We had to keep the door open as much as possible for the entire three-day stay just to air it out. We had also hoped foot any kind of upgrade to a balcony or the 2nd floor but it wasn’t to be.
A cyclone passed through during our stay, which knocked out power for about 14 hours. The hotel did offer a complimentary breakfast with toast, jams, cereal, etc., which we appreciated during the outage.
Later, once the storm had eased, we asked the front desk if we could borrow umbrellas to go for a walk. We were told not to bother, that the umbrellas would just turn inside out, and were advised to wear jackets with hoods instead. Surprisingly, they refused to provide any umbrellas at all. Little Family getaway

First stay at the Kingsgate and absolutely loved it. Close walking distance to the restaurants, and main shops. Friendly and accommodating staff. Comfortable beds and parking. Our little daughter loved the pool. We stayed here overnight before a day trip out to Urupukapuka Island. Will definitely look for deals here when we visit again, but will include the breakfast option.

They didn’t have good WiFi. It was in fact unuseable. Staff just made excuses but all guests we spoke to couldn’t use/connect to WiFi. I chose this hotel because it said WiFi - I had work to do as our stay was for 6 nights.

DON’T BOOK IF YOU NEED WIFI ACCESS.

Do not book this hotel if you require wifi, it does not work. The staff were apologetic and said management are aware of the problem but have not rectified it and this has been going on for a very long time.
We have been travelling around new zealand for a month and have had no problem in connecting our uk phones to wifi in pubs, motels, cafes etc. so it is not a problem with our phones.
We were paying over 300NZD per night for our suite but had to use the pub down the road to gain wifi access.
On the upside its a good location easy walking to local bars and restaurants. The unit was clean but does need an update of new furniture as there were sofa beds to sit on which were very uncomfortable.
