A fabulous quiet place to relax and stay for a night or two during a long journey, especially when travelling with a dog. There’s a beautiful park next door. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful.

The stay was just OK, nothing outstanding. The room was spacious, but very noisy from 6am, you can hear everything in the hotel. The shower door didn't close well, the toilet in the hotel common area was dirty. And the breakfast was average. Overall, not a too bad stay, but nothing to shout out for.

Stately, stylish and comfortable restoration of the birthplace of King Louis XIV, set next to several acres of impressive public gardens. Accommodation reflects the prestigious environment. The property sits on top of the hill overlooking Paris so you get great views across the city and sunrise across Paris from the dining room is a good view in the morning. The property itself is very grand although faded in places. Of the options in Saint Germain its is definitely one of the better places to stay.

Enjoy stunning views in a French royal heritage

The location is very closed (5-min walk) to the RER station which is 30 min to Champs-Elysee. You could have a casual pick of a cozy cafe & enjoy your breakfast with a book and walk across the neigbourhood there. If you stay there during Sunday, the Sunday market in its square is definitely worth-visiting. Also, Pavillon Henri IV is the place where Louis XIV born. Such a heritage! It also locates on the top where gives itself a stunning bird view of the town. Moreover, it conjuncts to a beautiful park with wide panorama of French style royal garden style. The entity itself keeps very well in elegance. I stayed here for my friend's wedding lunch banquet. The restaurant is decorated in a royal french style. All staff (the receptionists, catering staff and cleaning ladies) are professional with friendly care. Though my room is a bit small, I have no complain at all. I have enjoyed a lot during my stay here. Merci!

Overall the hotel stay was a pleasent one except for the front desk receptionist. Checking in was an apparent inconvenience for her. Adter extending another night i was courteous enough to come down to check if needed to change rooms given technically they were two seperate reservations. Again attitude. The rooms were in good condition but not as luxurious as pictured online. Given the unprofessional behavior of the staff i would stay elsewhere on a trip to Saint Germain-en-Laye. Plenty of other options.

Don’t book with hotels.com

The hotel was ok, a bit on the noisy side. Hotels.com though are dishonest thieves. They make you believe that your getting the hotel for one price but then charge you more and in a different currency! And there is no way to send them an email. You can online chat but get no resolution. Definitely will not be booking with them again!

Stylish Historic Hotel in a Great Location

Having lived in the area for 5 years we always admired the location and appearance of the Pavillon Henri IV hotel. We were not disappointed!!!
After making the booking the hotel contacted us to let us know there was a wedding reception in the hotel on the Saturday night. In order to minimise any disturbance they allocated us an upgraded room in a quieter part of the hotel. What great customer service... and we had a good night’s sleep.
The location is excellent with wonderful views towards Paris and the Seine valley. The RER (high speed metro) station for visits to Paris and buses to Versailles are a five minute walk away. There is also free car parking.
All the staff were very friendly, professional and helpful especially the receptionists and the waiting staff at breakfast.
The room was spacious and well equipped although there was no air conditioning. However even on the hottest day of the year the fan was adequate.
Thanks for a memorable stay in a lovely town.

Classy place, but very disappointed that a four star hotel doesn’t have a full size double bed in their double rooms. We had to upgrade to get a decent bed.
Also €24 was at least twice the cost of a VSOP cognac served in the top restaurants. Seemed very excessive.

Stunning historical property

For history lovers, this hotel is a must-stay - it was constructed from the remains of the former palace in which Louis XIV was born, and Alexandre Dumas stayed at the hotel when he wrote \"The Three Musketeers.\" It still possesses much of its original charm, and the rooms are comfortable and well appointed, with excellent modern bathrooms, but given the nightly rate, minor maintenance details could use attention; in my room, the bathtub drain didn't open properly, and there were several dark stains on the carpet. The property is a short walk from the RER station, with a direct route to central Paris and major stations like Chatelet, for easy connections.

Great hotel in fantastic location

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Pavilion Henri IV. The hotel is in a fantastic location with a superb view of the western suburbs of Paris onto La Defense and beyond. Although the room was rather small it was attractive and comfortable, food was excellent and I felt very comfortable throughout my stay. Would certainly stay there again.

Waiting 10 minutes to have a drink, retaurant is fine, beautiful view on Paris.
Very disappointing rooms. Old fashioned, Bathromm OK although the towels heater was not working.
Needs a serious renovation. Staff more or less OK. The barman does not know anything about whisky. Cannot make the difference between a scotch, a single malt, a bourbon.
Very disappointing for the price: 235 Euros!!

A Prestigious Property Badly in Need of Attention

Our travels take us to Saint-Germaine-En-Laye frequently and we have stayed at this property many times. Observations on this hotel in the past two years: management is seriously lacking; there is absolutely no sense that anyone cares if you are happy with your stay and when one points out failings, there is something close to indifference. Be extremely critical if you are given a substandard room. Our recent trip, after 15 years of loyalty, garnered us a room so small that we had to coordinate movements in the room (ie. if you stay on the bed, I can get by to go to the bathroom!) . Too tired to complain or relocate, we suffered through a single night in a room barely large enough for one, let alone a couple. We keep our fingers crossed that a better management team will be put in place one day and restore this historic property to the state in which it deserves to be kept and managed! Site is both historic and beautiful. Location near train station to Paris is very close. Shopping near by.

This hotel looks magnificent from afar but needs a lick of paint on the windows, which look as if they haven't been painted for years. Staff were fine and the room and bathroom were maintained very well. Our main disappointment was the size of the room - very small considering the price we paid. Other grouses were noise late at night on the Friday and Saturday from carousing wedding guests in the car park, which our room overlooked; and the small bed (advertised as queen size but the smallest double bed we've ever slept in)

The hotel is wonderful, the view of Paris is great, the surrounding neighborhood is pretty and restaurants are a very convenient and short walk away. The only potential problem is that it is far from the center of Paris, about 30 minutes by metro. But the redeeming feature is that this makes it a lot less expensive than other hotels in Paris, and the metro is about five minute walk. So very much worth it. The rooms are very large and comfortable, as are the bathrooms. Definitely, a great choice for business or (especially) pleasure.

Stayed two nights on the way home from the Dordogne. Picked the hotel because of the location (great views from the hotel over Paris and right beside a park.) with easy access to Paris by RER and ample free parking. Room was comfortable but lacked a few things (air conditioning - not even a fan was available on a very hot couple of days, tea / coffee facitilites) that we had enjoyed in a Best Western hotel in the centre of Poitiers the night before at much lower cost. Only had breakfast in the hotel restaurant which was OK but nothing special for the price. All in all I felt the hotel fell a bit short of its 4 star rating but perhaps that is the trade off for the location and I would probably stay there again.

This is a beautiful hotel in a lovely location. We had a large room with 2 rollaway beds for the kids. They had everything ready and the staff were very nice at reception. We had an amazing view of Paris (can even see the Eiffel Tower). The bathroom was really big and everything was clean and shiny. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel as it was 19euro for adult and 11 for kids, there are lots of bakeries around and we just got pastries, juice and coffee for around 13 euro for all of us. If you are visiting Saint Germain en Laye, be sure and eat at Le Manège, the food is lovely. Oh and our bed was enormous!

The bedroom was quite small and very hot during the night. The bathroom was spacious but the shower was merely a hand held one - no wall fixings and no shower curtain. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were extremely hard. Areas of the hotel were clearly in need of renovation. The food was over priced but it was very easy to eat in the town as it was only a 5 minute walk away to numerous restaurants. The location was the best thing about the hotel, close to the park, railway station, buses etc. and the view from the terrace was excellent.

Wonderful location; historic setting, Paris views

This is a very elegant hotel in a beautiful setting, in the upmarket Paris suburb of St Germain en Laye.
The hotel dates back to the 17th century, so has lots of character and history. It is NOT an impersonal budget hotel (eg no tea & coffee making facilities in the room), but if you don't take breakfast or other meals in the hotel then you'll be paying the rate advertised.
The room itself was large and spacious, with high ceilings and a small balcony overlooking the Seine. Very comfortably furnished, and everything spotless. The bathroom was large with a bath and separate shower and a separate WC closet. All very clean and towels fluffy and generous.
Some other comments have said that the hotel is shabby, and some of the rooms are undergoing a refurbishment at the moment (so our stay was a little noisy). I would expect that rates will increase once the refurb is finished, so if you want the chance to stay in a historic building with panoramic views of Paris then I would take the opportunity now.
St Germain en Laye is a pretty town with plenty of speciality shops (chocolatiers especially), as well as supermarkets, restaurants and bakeries. It is well worth a visit, although being upmarket some of the bars are Paris prices.
We enjoyed our stay and will be returning.

except that it is located outside of Paris (but only 20min RER ride), it is excellent choice of hotel.
it is right on a huge park, hotel provides 180 degree view of Paris, exceptionally quiet and clean neighborhood. Near RER, restaurants.
If you are looking to stay outside of Paris, it could be one of the best choice.
*Breakfast in the morning offers a little choices--ham/cheese/bakeries/juices/coffee/hardboiled egg.

Very small room, only chance to switch was by paying much more. Hotel front desk several times referred back to the internet booking, breakfast not included ($25 per person), then was included after I questioned her again, tried to charge me on the last day for breakfast anyway.
Beautiful hotel, Louis XIV birthplace, views of Paris, St. Germain en Laye is a fabulous small French city only 20 minutes from central Paris by RER train, station is one block from hotel across from Chateaux and Park. Restaurant is memorable, recipes for Sauce Bernaise and souffle potatoes were first served here 150 years ago.

Oase van rust

Geweldige oase van rust in een mooie voorstad van Parijs, schitterend op een heuvel gelegen met vrij uitzicht over de stad Parijs. Alle faciliteiten inclusief fantastisch kasteel op loopafstand. Kortom: top!

Surplombe tout paris

Vieux bâtiment historique la ou est ne Louis xiv. Au cœur de la ville vue sur Paris personnel sympa.
Dommage le restaurant était fermée et le petit-déjeuner limité a un menu continental.
On apprécie le calme la vue et l'histoire du château

Bien mais surcôté

L'hôtel était en travaux côté parking, nous avons donc été surclassé en chambre deluxe au dernier étage (3) côté vue sur la seine et Paris. La vue est magnifique mais beaucoup de jeunes écoutent de la musique et chantent tout le soir et la nuit en bas dans la rue ce qui fait beaucoup de bruit.

L'équipement est plutôt sommaire pour un classement en chambre deluxe : pas de peignoir ni chaussons et un décor mélangeant meubles anciens et un mini bar des années 70.

La salle de bain était par contre magnifique avec douche et baignoire.

Quelques ratés sur les finitions de la chambre comme un grand miroir pas très lisse et donc qui déforme légèrement, un placard qui ne ferme pas car les cintres mis dedans sont trop larges et une isolation sonore qui laisse à désirer.

Le personnel est cependant très serviable.

Toujours très bien reçu, belle hôtel avec superbe vue. Hôtesse très gentille et avenante. Vraiment j’adore l’endroit! Il manquerait peut-être une clim.

Prenez une chambre avec vue vers l'est

On a adoré. On avait une chambre avec vue, en hauteur, vers l'est - donc sur la Seine, et, à distance, La Défense. La Tour Eiffel qui se pointe derrière le flanc du Mont Valérien. Beaux levées du soleil. Grand lit, chambre spacieuse et bien décorée. La belle vie, quoi.
