Pleasant reception staff. Dog friendly. Comfortable bed with duvet. Nice to have a kettle but only paper cups. Restaurant closed and no food within walking distance. Hot water limited. None at 10pm or 6.30am so no shower. No bedside table on one side. Limited supply of sugar, tea bags etc. Just 2 sachets of sugar!! High step into bath and no handle. Excellent lighting. Lake opposite for dog walking.

Easy to find and good parking. Pleasant surroundings with nearby lake (we have stayed in the Best Western opposite bordering the lake)
Room relatively quiet but outside lights annoying (which are on all night) and no blackout curtains, just a thin semi-transparent veil. Ground floor room right under external staircase with unprotected concrete stairs at head height which is dangerous

Suggest you drive past.

Looked great from the outside but the room was terrible. Not clean, air con not working, rotting windows, no privacy, restaurant closed at weekend for lunch & dinner and only alternative was to eat at the only other hotel in the village. What moron decides that closing the restaurant at weekends is a good idea? Don't tell me there is no demand because the hotel was full to the brim!

Whilst of course i can't say it was from this place, i contracted legionella some days later and was hospitalised for a week.

Old and smelly, not a hotel, more like a camping.

If you are thinking to stay here on your route to get some sleep, don't. Our room was dated, small and smelled musty. Air condition didn't work and the double bed was terrible. The mattress was noisy and the bed so worn we were rolling towards the middle. Not much sleep achieved if you also add in that you can hear everyone in the carpark.
The good parts: receiption staff was friendly and efficient and the bathroom was refurbished, clean and towel / shower gel was supplied. The place is pet friendly and plenty of car park to be found. Good location (it took 17 minutes drive to arrive to Dunkirk port)
All in all, we felt like in a summer camp building, not a hotel.

We stayed here for 1 night to break our journey on the way to Germany for the euros to watch England. The positive for us is that it was dog friendly.
Check in was straight forward as you would expect, however the room was tiny for a family with a dog. The pull out bed was pretty much a mattress on the floor which we had to step over to get to the bathroom, the main bed/mattress needs replacing as it just sagged to thr centre hence very little sleep was achieved. We headed to the onsite restaurant for tea, however were told that nothing was available so meant heading out again. Only a couple of positives, breakfast was good, theres also a lake nearby which you can walk your dog around which was great for us. I wish we had continued our journey and not stopped in hindsight, poor bed, restaurant with no food and a mattress on the floor of a tiny room

Although the property is tired looking it has everything you need ( apart from a hair dryer or Iron) , the bed was very comfortable and the room a decent size. We stayed two nights and enjoyed the continental breakfast of which there was plenty. The staff are lovely and with the help of google translate we got by. Don’t rely on here for lunch or dinner as there is no restaurant as we know it, only a breakfast room and lounge but we ate across the road in a neighbouring hotel. We would stay here again if in the area or driving through.

One-night in Dunkirk

A one-night stay en route to Belgium after an evening ship arrival at Dunkirk. The hotel itself is easily found if you know the area, has reasonably large rooms but does suffer from 'thin wall syndrome'. Breakfast is rather good though!

Good Carpark, nice staff.

Tucked out the way, very good Carpark just outside the door, the hotel is showing its age, staff nice, bedsheets clean and tidy, think it’s time for a lick of paint. Breakfast is as you would expect at this budget, if it’s somewhere to put your head down for a night it’s great, but not really a place I would stay for a week.

We stayed for one night before catching the shuttle from Calais to UK.
It was very convenient, being 35 mins from the terminal. Easy to find from the autoroute.
Checkin was swift & polite. The room was ok. It was a reasonable size & clean, though rather tired & in need of an overhaul. Pretty average UK Travelodge standard.
Unfortunately we were told at checkin that the restaurant was fully booked for a large group. That wasn't what we wanted to hear after a long day on the road.
But...... it was suggested that we try the Quality Hotel across the road and that turned out to be a stroke of luck. It was literally across the road, the meal was good & reasonable, and the ambience was far superior. It's probably worth eating there anyway.
Overall, perfectly adequate for a quick overnighter.

The AC was working on this visit. the restaurant does a very good buffet starter and dessert which you can have as an all you can eat option the regular mains were good, and there were some interesting and tasty Chefs specials.
There is a large lake across the raod if you fancy a stroll.
we have stayed here 5 times and its alway been reliable apart from the AC not working last July.
We will continue to use this hotel as its cheaper to get the ferry and stop overnight, rather than stop overnight in dover then catch the ferry.

Convenient for port and close to motorway . Although it is close it is quiet as rooms are well insulated. Restaurant is good value and serves some local dishes .Worth booking as it is used by locals as well as residents. Its not luxury but clean,cheap and staff are friendly and helpful .

Quite a nice setting on the outskirts of Dunkirk, rural with a lake opposite. Quiet location but near enough to be quickly on the main highways to wherever you want to go. Friendly staff. Good room standard. Restaurant serves the usual Campanile menu but with a local twist if desired.

A very run down hotel that seemed to be ready to close down. The room was dark and tiny and we were told that the restaurant was full even though there was nobody in there.
The breakfast was almost gone when we arrived and things were not replaced.
We have always used Campanile hotels and liked them, but this was the last one for us.

This is a dump. Unmaintained hotel. Rooms are old, small and stained. Bathroom has mold. No power outlets. Unbelievable they can sell it for that price. We paid more than 100 euro for 1 night. Never again.

Ready for a refurb.

The staff were friendly, but the single bed in our room had only 2 legs and I was told that nothing could be done about this! I had to use all of the towels from the bathroom to prop up one end of the bed. Not ideal.

We looked at each other and new we diode not want to stay
The area is industrial and the other two hotels were not inspiring
To say the least

We returned to berges and the tonier hotel which we stayed in on our way out at the start of the holiday

Recently stayed here and chose this hotel primarily for its close distance (15 min drive) from the ferry port as we were arriving late, around midnight. Upon arrival, reception was closed and there was a sign instructing you to go to the hotel next door to retrieve your key which involved walking out on the road because it was dark and our first time there, we did not know the properties were connected by gate. As a hotel chain, this was unexpected, disappointing and the last thing that you want to do late at night. Room was minimal, small but clean. Stayed for less than 12 hours as it was a quick stop on our way onward.

Very basic room for the cost £55 before tax, pillows very lumpty but bed ok and had shutters to keep out the light. Unfortunately the people in room below us had yappy dogs which spoilt our sleep. Was ok for staying at on way to tunnel but wouldn't stay otherwise. Also the reception shuts at 11.00 but if you ring before hand they will leave at hotel next door.

Dirty room, not a hotel but a grubby motel, staff of 2 were polite and self service breakfast was good, when they got round to topping it up! Lack of cups meant we went without coffee for 20 mins, booked a room for 2 adults and a child only to find 2 very uncomfortable small beds and a half sized pull out bed that was unclean tucked under one of the singles, sadly wifi was also poor and as for satellite TV....... Haha. Never again!

Overall the room is basic and sufficiently comfortable for one night stay. However, the air condition is not cold at all. Like the other hotels I stayed, it really defeats the purpose of having air condition unit that does not produce cold air, it is more like a fan or worst. Did not sleep well for me. Internet access was not very good with weak signal.

Bit tricky to find even with satnav, but the quiet location close to an attractive lake was very pleasant and it is close to the A16 on which we were travelling. Typical Campanile set-up: friendly welcome; clean, comfortable accommodation; easy parking, and good quality food. Very good value for money and we are looking forward to staying there again on our return trip.

Favourite Campanile

Have stayed at Armbouts Cappel Campanile once or twice a year for over 25 years. The buffets and main dishes were, as always, delicious and the staff very welcoming and helpful. It was a pleasure to be spoken to in French instead of it being assumed that Britons are unable to learn another language!
The rooms appear to have been updated recently and there was a good supply of tea and coffee, welcome after a long drive.

this was a smaller, older style Campanile but it did its job. No hairdryer. Small single beds - husband rather big fella 6'6', so opted for single beds, but would have been better with their double bed which is bigger than ordinary UK double as it would have meant more space in the room. Room was near where smokers congregate so smell of smoke and cigarette butts where they missed the container. Smell only invaded the vestibule, and quickly alleviated with a puff of perfume. Clean room, wooden floor. Ate at Restaurant, food ok.

Having spent a week driving around france staying in different motels, this was clearly the best hotel. Rooms were clean. It was the only one we stayed in which had a bath (sit up French version) and shower.

The bed was huge, with cotton bedding. Free parking and a resturant on site.

We are in the resturant. Not the cheapest, but all cooked to order. Most people seemed to be choosing the all you can eat starter and desert option.

Only issue was when booking out. They said they had not relieved payment from Hotels.com. We paid again as they insisted we had just held the room and not paid for it. Of course. I then found my booking conformation and matched it with my bank account. They still refused to accept we'd paid. I phoned Hotels.com. They were very friendly but insisted the hotel has been paid. This went on for ages. In the end hotels.com refunded my money. Bit it cost me £8 in mobile phone charges calling the uk.

The hotel was signposted and therefore easy to find. It is exactly the sort of hotel to use for an overnight stop. The staff were pleasant, service was basic but good, the room was comfortable and clean, and there was a good quality television. What more could you want? We will use this hotel again.

Hotel is a basic level campanile. You get what you pay for, a simple room. There is free internet, and the on-site parking seems secure enough. It is a little off the beaten track, but not too hard to find. Breakfast always seems pricey, so we don't have it, preferring croissants in the room.

The old maxim 'you get what you pay for' applies here. It's a modest hotel, modestly priced. Rooms are clean, but tired. The staff are friendly though. The French seem lately to have really shaken off their reputation for being aloof. Here they are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food is limited in scope but fresh and well presented for the price and given the kind of hotel this is. Overall, I think I got fair value for money.

Going downhill

Adequate, functional but going downhill. Welast stayed at this hotel, using it as a stop-over on a longer journey, seberal years ago. It hadinstituted a policy of 'Restaurant development' that offered a true restaurant service with a wider ranging menu at reasonable prices. This attempt to upgrade and widen its services (apparently being exercised throughout the Campanile Chain) has apparently failed and all of the Campanile Hotels are now offering the same very (sub)standardised meals. Their rooms are clean and well equipped for a stop-over, but no longer offer the back-up of a decent menu that would encourage a longer stay.Clearly this is a management decision applied to the entire chain. I cannot argue with this but I regret its failure as I had hoped to base a touring programme upon these higher standards. Now I shall have to look elsewhere.

We have used this hotel for several years. We are always delighted with its standards, which serve us well for an overnight stay. We are particularly grateful to Erika, who gives us such a warm welcome and is a great asset to Armbouts Cappel Campanile.

In & out

If you need a place to crash for the night it’s OK, but that’s all.
Arrived around 11pm and we had to go to the next hotel to get our key, but this was by chance since it said nowhere that was the case.
The room was clean enough and dry, needed no more so can’t complain.
As for the rest, no there is no rest actually, that was it.

Quiet Location

Travellers must recognise that the Camponile chain of hotels offer basic but good accommodation for a short stay. This hotel did just that, but had the added advantage of a good restaurant. The bed was comfortable, the shower excellent and soaps were provided. The TV was a modern slim line with a host of channels. Buffet breakfast could not be faulted.

Very basic accommodation but clean and comfortable. Perfect for a stopover point. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food good too.
