On arrival, manager tried to prevent us from removing our luggage from the car we had stopped in the designated area in front of the hotel, citing an expected bus. After long discussion allowed us to take luggage from the car before moving off. No bus arrival for at least 15 minutes after we vacated the space. Pompous, rude, not what we would expect from Ibis!! Other staff, amenities, etc. we’re just fine.

Rooms were cold, bedding was tired, mattress was lumpy. The bathroom had mould around the edges and a damp smell.

There is not even a kettle in the room.

Very disappointed with this Ibis. The ones I have used in the U.K. have always been fine, but this one was definitely below expectations.

Absolutely amazing hotel. When travelling, I prefer to stay at chain hotels as they tend to be more reliable and safe. Hotel room was huge, toilet/ shower was a very good size and the check in was so easy. The lady spoke both French and English so made it a very easy process. Got breakfast included which was lovely. Short walk to the museum and Christmas market as well as the high streets and Dunkirk harbour. 10/10 recommend

Hotel was clean and the breakfast very good. However, on arrival we were told we should have booked parking. We parked on the road - which was free as we were there on a Friday night - but the booking requirement is still a mystery (I've checked the hotels.com advert - no mention of pre-booking)

Great weekend in Dunkerque!

This hotel is fairly central between downtown and the beach. It is within 2 blocks of the port. There were not many restaurants opened during the May 1st holiday. The breakfast buffet is great - fresh and a lot to choose from. The bedding was clean and the room small but enough for one person. My room was on the street and I had no noise the 2 nights I was there. Staff was friendly and not pushy. I would stay here again.

Overnight before channel crossing

Young man at check-in was pretty unhelpful and dismissive, seemed he was nearing the end of his shift and couldn’t be bothered any more. The night shift and receptionist in the morning however were very helpful, particularly in the morning going out of her way to make my mother a decaf coffee herself and tell her not to hesitate to ask if she wanted another!
Better parking information before arrival would be useful. Unsure if the hotel car park is free or not, as when we arrived at 8pm it was full. Parking on the surrounding streets is mostly free, but a couple have a parking meter (contrary to ‘all the street parking is free’ which is what we were told by the unhelpful young man).
Breakfast was good value with a wide selection, and replenished regularly.
Bedrooms were ok, a bit tired and worn, but clean. Bed was comfortable and linen was fresh and good quality.

Decent sized room. Clean. OK bed. Nice shower / bathroom. Free on street parking outside hotel on Saturday was a big bonus. But it was noisy and incredibly hot which made it difficult to sleep. No aircon, just a window. We opened the window and a pigeon tried to get in the room and even when we had it outside the room and had closed the window the bird stayed outside on the window sill for ages.Funny, but not what we needed during a heatwave.

A decent place to stay

It was a very clean, decent hotel located not too far to walk to the main square. TV only had French channels but hey, its France, right!! We didn't have breakfast so cannot comment. It was a bit of a walk from the reception desk to our room though so if you have mobility issues, request a room that isn't so far away. Parking on the street was easy and available just across the road.

Nice Dunkirk refuge

My 14-year old son and I stayed here as we explored nearby museums and it was awesome! Great rooms. Our room was large and the hotel sits next to the bus line. It is about 20 minutes walk from the train center and 20 minutes walk to the Dunkirk museum. This is a fun area of town to walk around. We didn't get a chance to try many local restaurants but we did use the onsite restaurant and that was quite good.

Not the greatest pizza ever but also far from the worst. The room was stiflingly hot and on a main road so opening the windows meant noise but a bit cooler conditions. Poor night's sleep as a result. Shower was good and room was clean. Location was really good.

Needs a little attention

Staff wete friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was a very good continental breakfast. The little cation was pretty good because it was close to the waterfront and the city center. Dunkerque needs a lot of revitalizing and the area immediately surrounding the hotel needs a good clean-up. The hotel itself is showing its age, but it s obvious that they are trying to keep the rooms clean. The hallways need a lot of work.

The hotel is everything which we have come to expect from Ibis, having stayed at several. My only complaint is that when we booked it online, it stated that there was free parking. When we arrived, there was no on-street parking to be had near the hotel and so I was asked a further 10 Euro for parking. It should be made more clear in the hotel's information for visitors that LIMITED parking is available freely on-street, but there is a charge for garage parking.
We have a nice evening meal in the restaurant and the breakfast was fine.

The room was very small and very noisy. The noise came from the birds outside. Because it was so hot, we had to keep the window open, but if you could close the window it would have been fine. Otherwise it was a great place, very clean and very affordable.

This was a comfortable stop on night 2 of a mini cycling tour of northern France. The room was clean and comfortable, I slept but my friend reported breakfast to be decent enough and reception was (bicycle) friendly and helpful. You are about 20 minutes (pleasant) walk from a nice promenade and waterfront by the beach.

This compared badly with every other IBIS Hotel that I have stayed in. My room was in an annex, the corridors were badly lit the carpets old and paintwork dowdy. The room was very basic, but the shower worked well - the one redeeming feature. I stayed here because I was travelling early the next morning from Dunkirk Ferry. It took 25 minutes to get to the ferry, almost the same time that it would have taken from Calais where there is a much nicer IBIS.

A disappointment

What a disappointment this was! We have stayed in several Ibis Hotels and have always been more than satisfied, but this hotel brings no credit to the Ibis brand. The car park beneath the building looked as if it was crumbling away and this set the tone for the rest of the ill designed building. Our room required a long tortuous journey through sometimes windowless corridors - where there were skylights the frames were mouldy - to reach Block C, for a lift to the first floor. Although it was the usual Ibis design, it was so large that it seemed half empty and unwelcoming. The bed was as usual comfortable and clean, and the bathroom was also clean. Breakfast was adequate but again not quite the standard we have enjoyed at other Ibis hotels.

Disappointing hotel not near the harbour

Arrived at 10.30pm hotel sign not lit up,therefore,it was hard to find.Hotel receptionist patronising and awkward.No access to the free carpark that was advertised.I had to park my car on the street.No free wifi in the room.Hotel corridors to the room smelt.Room itself was clean and tidy and served the purpose of a bed for the night.Hotel is in a rundown part of Dunkirk - 10 min walk to the centre of Dunkirk.Won't be recommending this hotel or visiting an Ibis abroad again.

This hotel says Free WiFi & Free Parking. You do not get Free parking! When you arrive they tell you the parking is on the street, nearby. This is true, but I booked this hotel because I had a badly sprained ankle and could barely walk. They did not say that I had to wander the streets of Dunkerque looking for the free wifi. Admitted it probably is somewhere in the small print, but it is still deceptive. And never EVER order one of their @Croque Monsieur@ sandwiches, starvation is preferable

Great location and a good basic hotel with the only down side is that the hotel smelt a bit musty in locations and also being very picky no tea and coffee facilities in the room. The hotel tries to be bright colours and fresh but I thought this was okay but the hallways up to my room on floor 4 smelt damp and not clean. This seems to be an old building but was OK to stay in for the one night we needed.

Hotel rooms, as usual with Ibis, are very small but clean, with large comfortable bed. The breakfast is great value and the breakfast hours are long.
However, it is hard to sleep there. My room was next to the lift - each time someone called it from the lobby, I was alerted by a double beeping sound. As it's a busy hotel with people arriving until very late, it took a few hours to get to sleep.
I can only recommend a stay here if you are happy using earplugs.

Hotel is basic and simple, but good value for money as a place to stay in central Dunkirk (which is a lovely and friendly little stopover). Our dogs were welcomed, and they also thought it was comfortable (although bring a bed for them to sleep on as they put pets in the floors with Lino and its not soft for them.

Just a couple of things firstly and most important the rooms are very noisy you can hear everyone in the coridor as if they were in the room so if you want an early night forget it and no chance of a lie in. Secondly for the price some form of drink making facility would not go a miss just Tea and or Coffee.

A good base to explore from

I've stayed at the Ibis at Boulogne and this hotel is much the same. Centrally located and clean with friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast costs around 8 euros but is well worth it. The rooms are cosy but clean and well maintained. My only complaint would be the heat of the room on the first night - with the windows open you hear all the traffic outside but bring ear plugs and you'll be fine!
I'd definately use this hotel again.

This is a lovely, lively little hotel with fantastic staff (especially the friendly cleaners who left the room immaculate - stayed for 3 nights), the rooms are basic, but adequate, the breakfast was excellent ('though if I'm being picky would have liked a boiled egg!) and beautifully presented and served by a delightful waitress. All in all we really enjoyed our stayed.

This was a good hotel. My partner and I only stayed for one night. The room was clean and tidy. The reception was open 24hrs and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only issue was that you could hear other people moving about in their rooms. The walls were pretty thin. Apart from that it was perfect for the night.

Close to the port of Dunkerque

I'm a native of Dunkerque and leaved there for 20+ years.This hotel is close to the port, downtown and the university. If you are looking for a location to the beach then it is not the best unless you have the car or do not mind taking the bus.
This hotel offers the strict minimum which is a bed and a bathroom. Our room was cleaned and we checked for bedbugs and we did not find any. Our room was noisy and I suspect it was due to the fact that we were on the same floor as cleaning and maintenance. I would recommend it for a short stay but not a long unless you do not mind leaving in a dorm like room. if you wish to go out at night, then I would recommend you go hang out on the beach of Malo-les-Bains where you will find many bars and restaurants !

Excellent no frills stop-over

Arriving in Dunkerque after midnight on the ferry, the ability to park in a locked and secure car-park and have immediate access to the room (done via automated machine) was excellent. The automated checkin was streamlined and problem free (and easy to follow - even my grandmother could do it with ease).

The room, while basic, had a comfortable bed, (small) ensuite, along with wifi and a TV. The room sleeps 3, (a double bed with a single bunk above) and for a stop-over when travelling ideal. You would not however stay here for your long summer vacation!!!

The breakfast was good - a variety of breads, toast and pastries along with cereal, fruit, yoghurt and cheeses. The coffee was excellent and served with warm milk.

Staff in the morning very pleasant and by 9 am we were on our way after a good nights rest.

Very good stopover after or before the ferry

We stayed twice on the outward and return legs to and from Stuttgart. Parking is available free on the streets nearby. (We could see our car from our window.) The room was clean and quiet, the bed comfortable and the bathroom clean. We ate in the restaurant for the buffet breakfast and dinner, and were very satisfied. The hotel is easy to find near the inner harbour and convenient for the town centre and local bars and bistros. Leaving town for the motorway is comparatively straightforward. Covenient stay for ferry.

The IBIS was pretty much what I expected for a hotel of this rating. The only problem we had was that our room was too hot and we had no opening window and could not turn down the heating. My sister stayed in a room on the frontside of the hotel and was able to open a window but found it was a noisy street later in the evening. We had no trouble with noise where our room was located. Best thing was the great water pressure in the shower! A good place to stay before catching the ferry!

The Ibis Dunkerque

The welcome to the hotel was poor. The night porter was rude, arrogant and unhelpful. The room was tired and the bathroom needed redecorating. Parking was not offered. I would not recommend this hotel.

Ibis Dunkerque Centre

Exactly as expected, clean, comfortable and quiet.
We were more than satisfied with what we got for the price.
Don't park on the red area on the road outside but you can park at the side of the road - its free.
Can't say a lot about the town - we walked to Au Petit Pierre restaurant (throroughly reccomended) and on the way back at around 9:30pm only saw about a dozen people - it was so quiet Dunkirk must have been closed!
