Room was *very* dated. Dirty yellow walls, yellow, not comfortable, sheets, the bed was too soft, there was a smell in the bathroom and as the cherry on top, we spotted 3 cockroaches in there. Didn’t sleep much after that. Outdoor areas are nice.

It's ok for what we needed which was one night stay. Not sure how we'd feel if we needed to stay longer, its near the taxi pier and we needed one night bc I skipped a day at our main hotel. they're friendly. They'll call taxi person for you but its not \"cheap\" the restaurant was empty we were the only ones who had dinner but the food was good. the beach access looked like a small beach we didn't stay at the beach there but went somewhere a bit busier so can't speak on that

Nice resort, great staff

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Da Kanda Villa. The beach at Thong Sala is remarkable for being so close to the pier….long, tree-lined, fine white-powder sand, and generally well-maintained.
The person in charge of the front desk was a delight to work with when arranging transportation and other tasks. She instantly made us feel welcome and was always ready to help.

While the facilities remain attractive, they seem a bit shabby. The boxwood-type hedges were in dire need of trimming, and the room smelled musty with the presence of mold in the bathroom. This seems rather typical of Thai resorts of a certain age, as it is not the first of its condition we have encountered. A strengthened grounds and facilities maintenance regimen is in order.

Position was ok...still a fair walk into town.
Seemed to have lots of vacant villa's and rooms. We asked to look at the villas and pay for the upgrade but was told they were fully booked. Clearly they were not! Air con in room B2 rattled like a train. They ran out of bananas and even ice cubes. Then the free ferry-shuttle didnt arrive on time...so front office girl had to organise another driver. Very under-trained staff

This was a good mid tier resort to stay at. The property is beautiful. Beach front dining. Food was not that great but edible. You can get better food just a walk away.

The rooms were good, except for the last couple of day we were there, but that’s not a bad thing.

Staff were nice, on the ball. All requests were answered promptly.

I personally would not stay here again, since there are many other resorts I would like to visit.

The room was very dated and it was meant to be a deluxe room. The curtain covering the door looked like a moth had spend a year eating it. Bed was lumpy and pillows very old. Then on top of that at check out they kept the deposit saying the bed sheet was ruined for a tiny bit of oil has spilt on it. They even said I was lucky to only take the 500 baht deposit as they would normally charge 2000 baht. I never normally write a bad review just don’t bother is the place is not so good, but feel this place should be avoided by all. Room was c 07.

We booked the deluxe Villa. We came for a week so thought we would pay more. Our first negative was the complimentary taxi that never showed up at the ferry for us. Every other resort seemed to have taxis waiting. They said they were busy.
The property is very run down and in desperate need of upgrades.
When first we checked in the white closet door was filthy. I wiped it down with a wipe and it was filthy. The room had a dank almost smoky smell.
In the bathroom there was a window with dirty open slats that did not close and no screen. There bugs, mosquitos and geckos. Ants crawling around. We wanted to check out but we're told no refund.
We had to tape a plastic bag to the window to keep out the bugs. The front desk said the cleaners would've back the next day.
There was no drawers in the room or cupboard shelves. We had to keep our things in our suitcase. The one chair was old wooden white slatted chair and very in comfortable with no padding. The same chair was on the patio and was so old it was falling apart. We did get them to replace it.
The two beach loungers were so rusty that there were holes in the metal and actually scary to sit on. Again no padding. I went up the beach and dragged back one beach plastic cushion. But even that was really old. The list goes on and on. Worn out towels and linens.
The cleaners came and clean the next day and sprayed. The following day, I was ready to check out I'm forfeit the money I paid.

We were recommend to stay here by a friend due to the beach location, and the view did not disappoint! The staff on reception were lovely and so helpful with recommendations of places to eat etc. The rooms and bathroom were a great size and we’re clean on arrival, didn’t spend any time around the pool so can’t really comment, the beach chairs need replacing they aren’t usable their rusting that much. If it’s a view your after and central location then this is great.

Booked during full moon party so most hotels were booked a month ahead. Although it was a 22 min taxi ride to the party it only cost 150baht/person. Hotel charged 500baht for pier pickup which was 3 minutes away so we got our own taxi for 100baht. Original hotel had bugs and dirty sheets so we were upgraded to a beach villa free of charge which was beautiful. Beach all over the island on this side was dirty sadly so we did not swim. So sad that there is so much trash (probably from full moon party). Tour to waterfalls and Temple was the best tour we’ve ever taken! Company was called Safari Boat!

This is the worst hotel in my 30 years of travelling They charged me season price during an off-season period which is dubbel When I complained that I pay dubbel the price for the same room reception raised their voices at me and told me it is because I booked on-line in advance during peak season which is unheared of They also took the full amount from my account prior to my book-in date without informing me or stating on their website that that is their policy I wanted to pay cash but to them it is as if you have no rights When I tried to talk to them they raised their voices again After this they refused to talk to me or be of service When I asked for hangers which the other quests received in the same kind of rooms than mine they told me to go and buy I have never been treated so bad by a hotel I just wanted to understand why they charged my dubble and took the amount from my account prior to my book-in date To them we are just ATMs and not tourists They treated me like a dog

Great hotel on a quite beach

Beach villas located are right on the beach. Easy walk to town and if you use a bike its close to everything. We stayed at different hotels on our trip but this was our favorite, and we decided to go back for our last week of the trip. Definitely worth paying extra to be on the beach side.

Great hotel next to the beach.

The room was clean, spacious, close to the beach and very quiet. The perfect respite after some long days traveling. I attended the Full Moon party and the hotel not only had a Tuk Tuk to take guests to the party ($100 Baht), but made sure I had a business card for the hotel so I could easily get back home. Brilliant! Welcoming staff at the ready. Wonderful stay at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend staying here.

HORRENDOUS! Do not book this hotel!!

We were due to stay at this hotel for 2 nights on 2nd-3rd of November 2017 as we planned to go to the Full Moon Festival. We booked this accommodation as it was more expensive than many others (£35 per night) with air conditioning and a pool so we expected a good 3 star standard of hotel.
THIS WAS NOT THE CASE... the room we were first given was damp, smelled of mould, had severely stained and dirty sheets, had a concrete bathroom, no skirting boards and was in desperate need of modernisation. The room made me physically itch and so we asked to be moved. The hotel staff tried to sell us a bungalow for an extra £106 on top of what we had already paid (THB 4600). Instead of paying more we just asked to try another room on the next floor which was just as bad but with the addition of BUGS IN THE BED!
Needless to say we left this establishment immediately with no refund given and ended up booking a room on the spot at Phangan Island View Hotel who were very helpful and even gave us a lift to pick up our cases from Da Kanda Villa. The Phangan Island View Hotel cost £25 per night which was cheaper and 100% better in cleanliness and facilities.

Amazing place and great staff!

We had a great time in the standart room. We booked for 2 nights and decited to stay for 4 nights more. The room is big, comfurtable and clean, with a garden view balcony. The pool is awesome, the beach is beautiful and we felt very relaxed and cozy. The staff are very friendly and helped us with anything we needed. The resort's restaurant food is tasty. I highly recommend this place. Good value for money!

Fab hotel! We stayed for one night only before moving on and wished we had longer there comparing it to other places we stayed.
On the beach front with a great pool, great views and lots of areas to sit/chill out. Although on a dark and quiet street just off the main road. But this is where a lot of the hotels are as it is the beachfront. Plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.
Really good value for money we thought. Very nice spacious room and lots of complementary toilettries and amenities including a fridge, water bottles and outdoor seating area at the front of the room. We asked for a kettle and the staff let us use there's in the evening to make our own hot drinks.
Would definitely recommend!

We stayed in one of the delux villas. It was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed is a bit hard but that seems to be standard to the region. The bar and restaurant are nice, beautiful view and right on the beach. The music is very USA contemporary and not very good in my opinion. But that being the worst of it, it is a very nice hotel.

Awful place, poorly maintained, badly run, very run down and looked nothing like the pictures. We were looking forward to staying here and after having already paid for 4 nights we were bitterly disappointed to the point where we decided within an hour of arriving that we would pack our bags again and leave to find a better hotel. The beach was dirty, the pool was unusable, full of leaves and with an electrical light fitting just hanging over the side. The place was overgrown with litter everywhere to the point where the staff couldn't be bothered to empty the bins. There was broken glass on the floor between our bungalows, I could go on and on about how bad this place was and I told the owner exactly what I thought. We had a stand off for two hours because we were refused a refund, even after initially offering to pay for the first night and only take a refund for the following 3 but they laughed at us like we were in the wrong. We contacted Expedia who contacted the hotel but were extremely difficult and didn't want refund no matter what. Please don't be fooled by the pictures and even if you are tempted do not pay in advance like we did, wait until you get there, have a look around and decide for yourself. Or better yet, just look else where and save yourself the hassle.

We booked the beach bungalow for the great view and that didn't disappoint. It was lovely to wake up each morning for the view and the sound of the sea. Overall we enjoyed our stay but you reall get the feeling when you're here that if the hotel just made a bit more effort with the upkeep of the place it could be a lot better. You have to ask for your room to be cleaned which is a little annoying and the beach has rubbish on it which surely would take long to clean up!

We were booked in a standard room in the main building, it was very basic, a cement room (the bed frame was cement) !! The room fit our needs, although the air conditioning blew onto the bed, which was annoying and the bed was too hard. We enjoyed the balcony. Some friends stayed in a deluxe villa and it was far superior to our room, I did try to upgrade with Expedia when the price of the villa went down to below what I had paid, but they were no help at all !! They couldn't even get my itinerary number right.
The pool area was enjoyable and the beach was nice to look at but not too good for swimming as alot of seaweed. The location was good, about a 10 min walk to town and 15 mins to the pier.

Loved it. Close to everything we needed. Staff was exceptional. Scooter rentals allowed us to explore the entire island. The lead man in the resteraunt was great very good and provided exceptional barbecue and traditional dishes. The beach was ok however paled in comparison to other beaches on the island. The bartender looked after Us Very well and was able to communicate in several different languages. One of our favorite staff was a little grounds keeper we called 56 who, tho couldn't speak English, entertained us with kind gestures and his agility on the volleyball court. The little guy at the front desk was also able to communicate in English somewhat and was very helpful as well. The grounds were beautiful. The air conditioner in our room struggled and our bathroom could have used a little update however between us all we had 5 rooms and all the other rooms were good

Great Value For Money Beach Hotel

DaKanda is conveniently located within a walking distance from the pier and the center. The room had a nice design bathroom, but the sleeping area feel that its fresh days have passed. Very visible list, of how much each of items in the room costs in case of a damage, want contributing to the comfort. Our room was at the very edge and Wi-Fi practically wasn't working. However, staff was going above and beyond to make up for shortcomings and pool/beach area was very nice. Overall, recommend, if you're looking for an inexpensive place by the beach and mainly plan adventures outdoors.

Picturesque resort right on the beach. Pool superb, ample sun loungers along the beach and poolside. Very relaxing place to stay, a short walk from the pier with a lovely night market and plenty of restaurants.

Food was average and pricey for the area, so we tended to venture out. Free shuttle service into town was excellent, ran about 8 times a day.

Accommodation a little outdated, particularly the bathroom. Although spacious and plenty of wifi though out the resort

Beautiful resort on the beach

Lovely resort situated right on the beachfront. Loved that they moved bean bags and little tables out onto the sand in the evening so you could sit and have a cocktail while enjoying the sunset. Staff were always around and super helpful. Stayed for a full moon party and they provided fluro paint and taxis to the party so everyone had a great time!

Nice and comfortable stay. Room was spacious. Restaurant at the hotel was really nice and only a short walk from other bars and restaurants. We were there just after one of the full moon parties and its a lot quieter than expected (it is also low season). Not to complain about that though as we had the pool and beach area to ourselves some days.

I expected a lot more from this hotel. The rooms are dark and grey and not very comforting from a beach side hotel. I wouldn't really recommend this for the price it was. There are many other hotels around the whole island that are also on the beach and not as dull. The staff are overworked - they are there all the time and I didn't like the feel of it much. It takes breakfast and drinks a really long time to come. But, the beach area is very pretty. I chose this hotel as even though I was going for the Full Moon Party on NYE, I wanted a really nice place to stay and this was not it.

Very Close to Pier, and Very Quiet Location.
Very pleased with our stay. Rooms were very modern and comfortable. Kitchen is reasonable.
Great Beach access and Pool.
Only negatives I can recall are that there is not enough ventilation in Bathrooms so Smell was a little off putting if we left the door open, and Beach area is very shallow so you have to walk a fair way to get deep water, but most of that area is the same so all Resorts in that area are equal.Overall we really enjoyed our stay .

when we arrived everything was ok, the villas are nice, a bit rough around the edges, but ok for the value, the pool is nice. the problem accured when we checked out. they said they have to check room for damages...ok no problem, and after about 5 minutes the cleaning lady came to the reception with two pink-stained bed sheets. they claimed it was from the fluorescent body paint, and that we didn't shover before going to bed...first of all we didn't go to any parties, and did not paint our bodies with anything...as you can imagine after a lot of argueing we didn't gwt our 500bath deposit back. so either go woth the cleaning lady when she checks the room or just don't bother coming here, there are a lot of other nice places around here.

We were completely satisfied with this hotel, good service and very clean.
The surrounding area is quiet and there are several stores near, 10 minutes walking. Although the beach is just in front of the hotel, we never tried it. But the pool was really pleasant.
The room was comfortable and the only problem was getting wifi signal.
Overall, I would recommend it widely.

Incredible View...Relaxation in Paradise

This hotel is on a beautiful beach. There's lots of greenery surrounding the bungalows and the pool overlooks an incredible beach. The food in the restaurant was also delicious! It was a great stay and one of our favorite hotels during our island hopping vacation.

Overall, we enjoyed our five nights at De kanda. Staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly. Good location, close to a 7/11 and not too far from Haad Rin. The beach was quiet, plenty of hammocks dotted about. However, there's only a couple of sun loungers.
The room was basic but adequate. Bed was a little hard and our balcony garden view turned out to be a view of large water tanks (I expect other rooms would have a better view).

Great staff, nice pool and beach area

As I've read, Mae at the front desk is excellent. She is the every day to make sure things are running smoothly, and pleasantly attempts to answer any and all questions. The staff down at the bar and restaurant are equally pleasant and offer quick and cordial service.

The pool is more than adequate and looks out to the beach. This is a great place to recover from a long night of Full Moon festivities.

There are lots of shops and restaurant options near by in all directions and we even caught wind of mui Thai fights near the port, which was five minutes away, which sounded like an entertaining night out.

So on to the meat and potatoes of the review. The garden view room that we had was adjacent to the pool. It was clean and had all of the essentials, with none of the niceties of more expensive
Hotels. We found the towels and linens to be clean and everything provided to work as expected. However, and this is a big however, the bathrooms are certainly and afterthought. They are a concrete and cinder block offering of no frills functionality. Since we were there for Full Moon, this was not a big deal, but was an observation.

All things considered, we enjoyed our stay (especially the staff) and would stay there again if visiting in peak season.

It was fantastic the pool was amazing and the beach even better the food in the restaurant was absolutely amazing. The staff could do enough for you they were great. I would advise the hotel to anyone who is up for a relaxing holiday.

Perfect!

Loved this place, friendliest staff in all of Thailand, beautiful setting right on the beach, great pool. The location was just right for us, it was only 100bht to get to the full moon, jungle and pool parties and then we were far away from all the craziness when we wanted to relax and this resort was so quiet and tranquil it was perfect! Just a 5 minute walk from Thongsala main town and pier so I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Its a No-Frills hotel with edible On-Site Restaurant. The beach isnt spectacular but it was quiet enough. Although this Hotel is like 15 mints away from decent restaurants nearby the city center. If you are into the whole party She-bang.. Stay around Haad Rin definately...

Staff was not so friendly and the staff seemed bored to tourists. Rooms smell like wet basement and in the evenings room started to smell like sewer. Sounds can be heard everywhere. Cleaning was not so good (towels/bedclothes not changed every day), no new shampoos every day, breakfast was scanty!! and on all side was intimidation note charges. In addition, you need 500 Thb as pledge key! The beach and the sea was full of floating seaweed! Swimming pool could be called cholera-pool, not cleaning, yuck!!

Good food, when they get it right.

Friendly hotel staff but some issues. Water pressure non existent in showers, hopefully you can get some warm water. Food tastes good but they screwed up our orders multiple times. Recommend the fried rice w cashew nuts and red chicken curry. Convenient location, cpl mins from Thong Sala pier, bout 25 mins to Haad Rin beach. Tours p/u and drop off from this loc.

Great stay for full moon party

We stayed at the Dakanda for the duration of the full moon party. We chose the Dakanda because of cost and location not to close to the party but not to far about 15 - 20min tuk tuk ride location did not let us down was perfect. The staff were great one in-particular \"Ozzie\", Ozzie went above and beyond and organised our transport to and from party and anywhere else we wanted to go he new us individually by name (even what we drank), and gave us Hotel Business cards and his number if anything happened to us while at the party for people to contract.
The Hotel was great we stayed in garden Villas the pool was nice and clean and the ocean was beautiful, the staff would go out a few times a day (on tide change) and sweep up any seaweed / leaves of the sand so it was always very clean.
My 3 favourite things about the Dakanda was:
1st the service and kindness from the staff
2nd the fantastic aircon mixed with silence perfect for hangover cure
3rd eating each meal overlooking the ocean and listening to waves - cant wake up to anything better :)
DAKANDA - you will most certainly be seeing us again thank you for the great stay :)

I was stay at Danada resort unhappy so much for my holiday no service and no care no clean bath room and bed room, i not recommmend for tourist come to stay there, becareful for your holiday at this resort

Séjour agréable sauf ménage pas tous les jours; matelas très dur et uniquement des rideaux occultants sur de grandes baies vitrées sans voilages qui obligeait pendant la journée à fermer ces rideaux pour avoir notre intimité nous empêchant d’avoir la lumière du jour ! Dommage ! À part ça, je recommande cet hôtel 🏨

Just what I needed :-)

I arrived a little late for check-in, since I came directly from the hospital. The receptionist did not know how to check me in, but he was very nice and made sure I still got my room. I had ordered the room with breakfast because I didn't know the area and wanted to make sure I had a chance of a nice breakfast. It was an alright breakfast, but nothing life changing, I must say. It felt s if the resort was emerged in low season vibe and I get that :-) However, Da Kanda provided me with a safe place to rest for one night and a decent breakfast. All in all, a pleasant stay!

Faldefærdigt hotel, men perfekt beliggenhed. Der er meget få stikkontakter, døren til badeværelser skal nærmest sparkes op for at åbne - den binder rigtig meget.
Vi havde bestilt en “Beach side villa”. Det er åbenbart et vidt begreb, for vi boede ud til poolen? Vi påpegede netop dette, da vi jo har betalt ekstra for beliggenhed. De mente vi havde fået hvad vi havde bestilt. Sproglige barrierer var for store til, at vi ville gøre mere ved det. Vi havde kun 3 overnatninger her, og taget det korte ophold i betragtning var det ok.

Hotellin sijainti Ok. Hotelli itsessään nuhjaantunut ja epäsiisti. Huoneet täysin betoniset jopa sänky. Patja vaan betonin päällä. WC-istuin asetettu niin ettei mahdu istumaan oikein, kun betoniseinä edessä. Ranta epäsiisti. Ravintola kohtuullinen.

Better than expected

I stayed in the standard room which was very similar to what is shown in the pictures on the site. I went on the day of the full moon party and all other hotels are either fully booked or unreasonably expensive and da kanda was still available at an affordable price. I was by skeptical and worried prior to arrival that the room is gonna be a nightmare but it turned out pretty ok! The staffs are helpful and the room is ok, i wouldn't say it's clean but i expected and have stayed in much worse. The room was very very dark and seemed a bit dirty but everything was working properly. Water pressure was weak but ok for a quick shower. My friend who booked a room one grade up got a much better room that was much brighter and cleaner. I would recommend doing that so.

Ville carine ma con diversi problemini da risolvere, i bagni non sono il massimo...nella prima villa assegnatami non si apriva la porta del terrazzino verso il mare, spiaggia carina ma non balneabile nel periodo estivo (agosto).
Il personale dell'hotel è molto cortese e disponibile tranne una ragazza che abbiamo trovato al check-in e per fortuna mai più rivista che invece è stata abbastanza sgarbata e indisponente.
Il ristorante è buono, personale cortese e disponibile.
Ottima posizione!
