This review is mixed as the property was great! but the 'bait and switch' on the rooms we booked was TERRIBLE. Front desk when we arrived was frustrating and unfriendly. Did not want to help us and did the bait n switch on our rooms. then after us upgrading our rooms from the bait n switch of a room lower than a back packer room, to a room that we could comfortably survive in, things were OK. Except the upgraded room that we had, had a misfunctioning air con for the full 4 days we stayed here. The front desk was good at the end of our stay and did not make us pay for the room as we had zero sleep for 4 days with no aircon and then zero water for 1 day. But the resort was nice and the pizza was good. WARNING is the rooms that we booked does not exist on Milky Bay's or Expedia's website anymore. And we saw another group got put in those 'bait n switch' rooms and we asked them if that's what they booked and they also said that was not what they booked and the resort would move them to an upgraded room (which we and they had to pay for) when there was room available. We were a party of 12 people in 6 rooms. Again, the resort is pleasant and nice, but make sure the rooms you book EXIST on the website before you book. Expedia support team was great and consistently talked with me over the problem we had, but in the end Expedia made the best offer they could to us for the inconvenience and it was accepted on our part.

Our wonderful stay at Milky Bay!

This was our 10th Visit to the Milky Bay Hotel, and to our total surprise, the resort underwent a major renovation since we last stayed there, and it is absolutely beautiful!! We had a stunning room, and the staff that's become like family treated us like royalty. Well done on the superb renovation, and the Resort will remain one of our favourite places to go to!! We can't wait to go back.

Lovely Relaxing Time

Lovely place to relax at, accommodation in the bungalows was lovely and the pool was nice.
The staff though very attentive seemed to be doing this as their 1st season and kept getting things wrong with drinks and food orders.
Quiet of a night time which if you just wanted to relax and have a drink and play pool is ideal or you have to go into town for 300baht (approx £7.50) for a lively night.

No TV or netflix as promised..Wi Fi was buffering all the time, just like the only source of any TV, You Tube...Had to go elsewhere to do any business on my phone, Facebook and messenger...They also extorted 1500 baht from me, for the scooter I had hired from them, being hit and dragged along ground in their carpark...Not by me....

The bathroom facilities are terrible.
Showering would trip the electricity and I’d be in the dark until maintenance could get it back on.
A part of the resort near where I was situated was under construction so hearing grinding and people walking around the room all morning isn’t my idea of leisure.
The pizza from the restaurant was 5 star pizza which was a real positive about the place.

We came hoping for a quiet getaway and we couldn't have asked for a better place to do this than Milky Bay Resort on Koh Phangan. Even though this property is set back not far from the main road, it is so quiet and right on the beach. We could see the beautiful calm beachview from our room. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The free breakfast choices were wonderful as well as the menu for lunch and dinner right there at the resort. The pool was so clean and the water a perfect temperature for cooling down. A few feet from the registration is a place you can rent scooters to easily take yourself around to see the rest of the island. Peaceful! Wonderful! We hope to return.

Nice peaceful stay at Milky Bay. The bed was super comfortable and it was a nice touch to have glass water bottles in the room as well as a refillable water station. The staff were very attentive. The views out to sea on a sunny day are beautiful. The bungalows need a small lick of paint and the window latches readjusting then I would say it’s pretty much 10/10. Breakfast was ok - would’ve liked a better selection of fruit or the opportunity to help yourself to more butter/jam.

I found Milky Bay Resort purely from reading the reviews and I wasn’t disappointed at all. The hotel staff welcomed me with open arms from the moment I arrived and made me feel special and relaxed and were so polite and courteous throughout my stay. The hotel is situated right on the beach in a beautiful & tranquil setting and the views of the ocean and surrounding islands are amazing. I booked a superior room and each morning sat on my terrace/balcony and just gazed at the beach and ocean which was literally 20 metres from my room. The girls that clean the rooms are fantastic and do an amazing job each day. The restaurant which serves all day from breakfast to evening Dinner is exceptionally clean with plenty of staff on hand and all so polite and welcoming every meal I had there. Special thanks to Yu, Go and Ta-Ta who were always full of smiles and polite and made eating as a solo traveller more enjoyable for me. The food here is amazing and that is evident by the amount of people who choose to eat here. The chefs do an excellent job of cooking some amazing dishes throughout the day. I originally booked for 3 nights here but I extended by staying a few more nights as I didn’t want to leave. The hotel is classed as a 3 star but on my experience I would say they deserve 4 stars most definitely. I would most certainly recommend this hotel for an excellent place to stay on the beautiful island of Koh Phangan. Would I return again ? Most definitely. Thanks to all the staff.

Nice beach resort in baantai

I enjoyed my one night stay at this resort where the staffs were very helpful and friendly and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. I loved the food at the restaurant it's comparable to standard in 4,5 stars hotel. With the help of the hotel staffs i rented a nice bike from a nice guy and it was very easy to get around on the island with it. I would stay at milky bay again when i go back

Comfortable / Pleasant stay even though short.

Checking-in /out was fast and no problem. Breakfast was good at the beach view restaurant. Stayed only one night and went out so much so didn't use the pool nor the beach at the hotel. Room is nice and clean with a nice provided mosquito net, and a welcoming orchid flower on the bed. bed is quite comfortable and spacious bathroom. The bed lights are convenient even though quite dark for reading in bed. The room potpourri gives a pleasant smell until it runs out of the essence oil. There are some tiny ants on the counter of the room and the hotel quickly took care of the problem once reported. One small problem is the room door is actually glass sliding doors which are ok when the inside curtains are closed to have privacy. However, there is a small gap between the sliding glass doors which is a bit annoying in opening and locking the doors in addition to the possibility of allowing small bugs/ insects getting through. Hotel provides a free picking up from the ferry, but charges a small fee (80 baths per person) from the hotel to the island's only ferry pier (Thong Sala). Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it giving the price, location and service provided.

Best resort a foodies delight

Best resort in koh phangan. Great location & value for money. We stayed in a huge villa 4 nights & absolutely ĺoved every minute.The rooms are so clean & comfy & open. Great furniture!
The staff at resteraunt are simply the best...most incredible food on island after one month & staying in santhiya (5* resort) we found milky bays food to be on point with amazing fresh seafood bbq & delicious thai & western options.
Thanks to Tun,Moon,Yu & Mikey B . Best staff members ever, awesome english & so welcoming & helpful.
One thing should change. Do Not make guest produce breakfast voucher. Its rude & stupid... Resteraunt should be able to call reception to verify guests package not make guest walk & get it.

Great Hotel at a great cost.

The property is really nice. It feels like you are in the middle of the Bamboo Forest.
They have a nice restaurant although the included breakfast wasn't the best. The beach area is nice but you cant really swim as it is a huge sand bar.
Nice big Pool but watch out for the kids because there is an area that is really deep even for adults.

This hotel was lovely for our stay during the half moon party. It is cute and right along the beach. We booked the deluxe double room and it was very spacious and clean. The air conditioner worked okay, but since the room was so big it did not cool it off that well, but it was still comfortable. The little plunge pool in front of the room was a nice bonus. The food at the hotel was tasty and reasonably priced. The staff was very kind and attentive. This is not a \"luxurious\" resort stay, but it was cute and accommodating at an extremely reasonable price.

My vote is for for the superior room

I really liked the superior room I got. It was stylish comfortable cool and had a great view. The cheaper and the more expensive rooms looked I'll conceived to me so I think I got the best deal. The bar and restaurant were nice. The cleaning staff effective if a little sullen.

Nice hotel by the beach.

We stayed for one night. We had a problem during check-in. Despite reserving a double-bed room (Expedia gives explicit and separate options of booking single-bed vs. double-bed and there is a price difference as well), the hotel staff did not initially accept it and was forcing us to go to a room with single beds. She claimed that they assign the room when the guest arrives (and not based on the option you use during booking). We pointed the Expedia reservation and the confirmation for a \"double-bed\". After a few iterations, she finally called the manager and reluctantly gave us a different room with double bed (even claimed that they upgraded us). When there are options to reserve a double-bed room, and forcing the customer to pay more for that option, it looks quite unprofessional to argue with your customer for 10 mins. (We also checked the upgrade claim, which was still available through Expedia and was exact same price as what we have paid to Expedia).

On the positive side, our room was facing the ocean and it's views were incredible. The hotel setting is very nice and cozy.

The breakfast was normal. The location is a 10 mins ride from the pier. There are nice restaurants and bars in walking distant. There is a very cool bar adjacent to the hotel, by the ocean.

Hidden hotel away from hustle and bustle of cities. Nice resort with triangle shape roof over head. Highly recommend superior deluxe room instead cause it will get pretty cramp in the standard room. Remember to bring mosquitoes repellent, been bitten a lot around the resort.

loved milky bay because it's out the way which was great but it does mean you need a scooter or taxis to get anywhere, we liked this fact though. the staff were so much fun especially Yu and Win who are a little crazy in a good way :) only down point I can point out is one of the other guests next door to us had 4 dogs and some cats who kind of took over our bit of the land but that's not milky bays fault. food was brill, best meal we had all holiday.

-Good wifi.
-Jungle type surroundings. Peaceful. Mostly quiet.

-Terrible service, especially from reception where staff were rude and arrogant
-Wanted twin, got double. Made big fuss about getting an extra bed.
-Breakfast (and food generally) over priced and small portions. No authentic thai food. (all staff are Burmese)
-Room not cleaned until 3.30pm everyday. Always forgot something e.g. towels, refill tea/coffee.
-over priced by about 60%. We found nicer places much cheaper closer to town.
-On beach but water too shallow to swim in.
-You'll need transport to get into town as it's about 3km from town centre
-Witnessed owner filming documentary in restaurant - he got really drunk, tool his shirt off and talked about how he loved thai women because \"they do whatever you want them to do.\"

This was our favourite hotel in our three week stay in Thailand!! We had booked the studio room which had a beautiful sea view and hot tub on balcony. I highly two commend booking this room as it is great value for money. The service to the full moon party was also well organised with cheap taxi and free body paint. The food was the best bit about the hotel and great value for money.

We were scheduled to stay for two nights in June, island hopping. Unfortunately we only got through one night. On this particular island we opted for the cheap bungalow option, which would have been fine, apart from the infestation of bugs. Other than that, the hotel seems pretty good with good facilities, island itself is a bit dull when there is no FMP going on.

i spent three nights in total here and originally booked for two . The room was amazing and very clean . The staff at bar were friendly and full of good suggestions . make sure you get a receipt for the 1000 baht they charge for key deposit to save arguments at check out . the reception staff were overall rude and thats my only negative comment . great place on the beach .

Nice resort with fantastic private beach.

Overall this is a very nice little resort and I would recommend it. It should be noted that many of the rooms do not have an ocean view and are tucked into the bamboo forest. The restaurant and bar are both very nice (with good food) and the pool is also great. All 3 are right on the little private beach which is beautiful. As others have mentioned, the resort staff are all very friendly and very helpful. There were a couple of little blips (like internet not working in my room) but these things happen on little islands sometimes. I think this place would be great for couples.

Quirky & Cheap!!

We paid £10 each per night and this was total value for money!! I usually have a 4-5* hotel policy only and had to compromise for budget purposes. But I was so pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was so different, very quirky, food was great, we even had breakfast included in that price! The service at the hotel was 5*, the restaurant and bar staff couldn't do more for you. The only negatives but again I don't know if they are negatives given the price we paid? There is very little beach and almost none if the tide is in, there are limited loungers, the rooms can be quite small and the bathroom is quite basic (not modern). But overall great hotel for what you pay.

Milky Bay is special. We booked for one night and stayed ten.We stayed in the studio which is huge.They strive for excellence.The food and staff are excellent. The pool area is lovely and kept spotless.My only gripe is the ladies who clean your room could do a better job while you staying .When a room is vacant I have seen them scrub and spring clean. We hired a car from Jet.The guy with long hair who gave us excellent service.laundry was so easy too just dropping in off at reception and they hang it on your door when its ready .The rate is the going laundry rate not rip off prices.This hotel is a good base from where to explore but you need a bike or jeep.We will definitely go back. Enjoy

This place is awesome

This is one of the best experiences I've ever had at a hotel/resort. The layout really cool, it feels like you're walking through part of a bamboo forest. The rooms are huge. The staff is the best (Yu was our favorite!). It's got a good setup for the restaurant/bar right on the beach.

I'd say it's great for groups of friends, especially if you're going to the half moon party nearby.

I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Koh Phangan.

Nice resort with some problems

Stayed there a week. First days perfect. Then moved to a room with broken water heater. Reaction to complaint very arrogant by male receptionist. Suggested to shower outside! Were moved to another room with tons of centipedes inside. This receptionist also promised room rates he could not keep the next day. They wanted to charge me for food i did not consume. Facilities really nice. Great restaurant. Nice bar. Ping pong. Volleyball. Nice beach but shallow water. Could be great without the problems described.

Look no further for a place on Koh Phangan!

This place is excellent value for money and a great place to stay. We got married on the island and us along with 40 of our guests stayed at Milky Bay resort. The location is great, the setting is beautiful and the best thing is the staff. They are extremely friendly and would do anything to make your stay pleasant. From always greeting you when you walk past to heating up your food you cooked at a cookery class. They help you book any trips or travel. We made full use of their great massage facilities. We ate at the restaurant and was always very happy with the food. The fish BBQ is excellent. We returned to Milky Bay after all our guests had left after the wedding for the start of the honeymoon. We want to thank all the staff for making the stay very pleasant.

Pros: Clean rooms, great pool, nice beach, good service Cons: Bad lightning in rooms, some problems with water pressure in the bathroom Overall, it was a great little resort in a quiet area, but easily accessible to the rest of the island. Our room was very open to the outdoors (no window, just shutters), open spaces between the floorboards..so some people might not be comfortable with that. Although in 2 nights we didn't see any bugs or lizards in our room. I would definitely recommend to stay here :)

Loved our stay here!!!

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful with everything from renting a motorbike, getting a taxi, and booking a tour to doing our laundry. It was very reasonably priced and the room includes a delicious breakfast at the beach side restaurant and the rooms were large and had AC. Something to consider is that there is only Wi-Fi in the common areas. I will say that the walls in the rooms were made up of a single overlapping laying of woods slats and there were gaps that would let in insects, towards the end of my stay I was getting bit by mosquitoes, but that comes with the territory of staying a beach resort. All in all, great place and I would return.

A little gem that should be experienced

Nestled amongst gardens of bamboo and covered in soft mulch, milky bay brings nature back to hospitality. Birds are always active in and amongst the resort.the staff are some of the most warming, genuine, happy funny people you could meet. Reception staff were extremely helpful. A special mention to Mai who has an unusual but contagious laugh. He had us in stitches within the first 5 minutes of being there.

For the rate you pay, you couldn't ask for a better hotel-- staff, food, activities, rooms were all great. Sometimes it was difficult to even leave the hotel to explore the rest of the island!

Terrible Customer Service

While searching online for a place to stay in Koh Phangan, we stumbled across what we thought was a great deal on hotels.com. Since we are a group of 3 people we booked a room with a Max occupancy of 3 adults. In the room information section it implied that it would be 2 twin beds and 1 roll away bed as part of their complimentary services. I made sure to include the details of the third person in the special requests section during the booking so they knew what to expect. We arrive at the hotel only to be told we owed 1000 Baht more for the extra person (we only payed 2000 for the room). when we explained the situation and even showed them online the error on the hotels.com website, they refused to do anything about it. We had no choice but to pay because when you book online your booking is non refundable. We had to pay for their error.
There were some positives about Milky bay that include:
- Nice amenities
- Friendly staff (except at reception)
- Close to the beach
There are however some additional cons:
- Poor location (about 3 km from town) no restaurants nearby.
- No WiFi in the rooms
- Pretty sure there was a family of animals living in the roof of our hut
With literally 100 places to stay on such a small island is it worth taking the risk staying at Milky Bay Resort? I would say no!

WoW, great room, gorgeous pool, fantastic hotel

We booked to stay 2 nights and extended our stay after arriving at Lanna.. Its not far from airport and the hotel do a free shuttle if you let them know in advance... They also do a free shuttle about 5 times a day to Chaweng & back, along with the fishermans market on Friday.. They also booked our ferry tickets and dropped us off free of charge at the pier.. I would definitely recommend this hotel and one stay here if I ever came back to Koh Samui...

Amazing Hotel with a great view!

My husband and I stayed there on Dec 30th for one night. Our room was spacious and clean, the Villa's were so beautiful and the restaurant was right on the beach. The tide was in in the morning so we couldn't go on the beach but sitting having breakfast which was included was amazing first thing in the morning. Concierge was very friendly and helpful. Definitely would stay there again on our next trip.

Amazing stay with friendly staff!

This resort is fantastic! The staff is so friendly. They will do anything to help you. The room are lovely and cleaned every day. The pool and beach area is brilliant.

Our highlights were the food and the Thai massages!

We are having our wedding on the island and we have recommended that all the guests stay here!

The staff are very friendly. and the food is excellent. The pool/beach combination is perfect. With the Bamboo forest, no matter how hot it is, it is cool in the bunglows./chalets. My room was large, comfy an aircon unit and roof fan.

Mt partner and I stayed here just for one night, but we had a very sweet, intimate bungalow with all we needed along with hot water and clean sheets. The beach was stunning and as it was quiet we were almost alone! The staff were so so friendly and did all they could to help us! We wished we had more time to stay a second night but we didnt :( very well recommended and would think amyone could find little fault!

Want to have breakfast by the beach? Want to have a room facing the beach? This was the place to end a nice holiday 6 weeks. I stayed at Milky Bay for 4 nights before half moon party.
I wanted a place to chill out and this was perfect. Hotel had good food average priced. ( pizza, Thai food) The staff were so friendly greated you with a smile every day. Infact one of them was so funny he would greet you saying \"how are you tomorrow\". Have a nice bar with good cocktails. The hype before the half moon was amazing. We got free body paint. This hotel is not near haad rin or other party place but only costs 100-200 baht to get to these places. The hotel pool was also very nice looking over the sea! Amazing I would definitely recommend staying there to anyone! Top of the range:) loved it and loved the staff thanks for a good time.

Hotel is amazing, very friendly staff, food is amazing and reasonably priced. Found it was a bit far from bars etc. but there are facilities to rent bikes/jeeps and go exploring. Went with a group of mates for 3 nights for the full moon but the hotel is more suited to couples id stay closer to Had Rin if heading to the full moon party... Overall very nice hotel

Amazing

Hotel is at a very peaceful area of Koh Phangan, at very relaxing Bantai Beach. Hotel upgraded me to a studio room while checking in, even I booked a standard room. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The garden with bamboos was amazing. The staff is good and food at the restaurant is more than average. The days at Milky Bay Resort are definetely the highlights of my trip.

One of favourite hotels in Thailand!

Due to construction works just next to the resort (there was opening of the new club, which may not be beneficial for the Milky Bay guests because of the noise) we were promptly relocated from a double room hut to nicer and bigger family 'villa'. During the move I left my engagement and wedding ring in the bathroom and cleaning ladies found me and gave them back to me (before I even realised I lost them), I am most thankful for their honesty! Apart from exceptional staff, there is simply something magical about this place and I can't even describe in words how delicious the food was! Thank you Milky Bay for great memories! :)

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool may be too deep for an average swimmer. The beach is pleasant to look at but not so good for swimming. The beds are a little too hard for most western people. The room was a good size and the shower, air conditioning and bathroom area worked well. We had a nice stay. Would recommend.

Great relaxing stay.

I stayed In this hotel for three nights. The restaurant and bar staff are amazing and my wife and I had loads of fun here. The there is plenty to do at this resort and they make great pizzas. The pool was great. Our room was steps away from the beach. Loved staying here and would recommend others to do so. I would recommend if visiting this island you should rent a scooter and explore the west and north.
