I know it was an older Hotel but 2 sets of stairs to walk to our room gave us a workout. restaurant downstairs but was more on the higher cost but lookedlike good meals. we didnt eat there. bed was very comfortable. no tv to entertain us unfortunantly. still a very nice,romantic place.

A really fun and historic place to stay. Not sure how the room was originally configured (maybe a two room suite) and it's not set up for any kind of extended stay. No chest of drawers and no real closet. We were there 3 nights for a wedding nearby and it was a challenge keeping everything somewhat organized. Great staff though.

This is such a wonderful hotel. We love staying here and enjoying the old world feel with the modern service. Debbie at the front desk was wonderful, and our room was warm and comfortable. Beautiful restored old hotel. The restaurant service was wonderful as well as the front desk. My friends got a room comparable in price and theirs had a fridge and mine did not. So if that's important to you, make sure to ask.There was something that had spilled on the bathroom floor, I was in hurry so didn't really say anything to house keeping. All in all, a positive stay and I will definitely book again being sure to call and ask about specifics.

Our stay was wonderful. The National Exchange Hotel is an historical treasure; it is updated without compromising its historical ambiance. Our room was clean, mattress was firm, water pressure was good, decor was a mix of antique and new. The garden-like back courtyard area is a wonderful place to enjoy morning muffins and coffee. We will stay there again.

The authenticity of this hotel and Nevada City itself brings you back in time. You feel like a wealthy person from the 1800s. Impeccably clean and well-appointed with all the comforts of a modern hotel, including robes. The sometimes crooked floors and steps, the huge moldings and wainscoting, the winding passages, and the antique furnishings add authentic historical charm. I think it might be haunted, but in a good way. Finally, the huge second story balcony overlooking Broad Street was the perfect spot to relax in the afternoon with a glass of wine.

Very nice historical hotel and wonderful staff

We were in room 213 which is a really nice and spacious king suite over the hotel lobby. There aren't any bedrooms sharing a side wall with the room, but it does share a wall with the upstairs bar area and the common bathrooms.

Pros:
Spacious room with seating area with a couch and two nice chairs.
Mini fridge, water kettle, 2 coffee cups and 2 water glasses.
Huge shower with rain showerhead.
Bed was quite cozy.
AC worked well to quell the noise from the town at night.
Dog friendly.
Front desk was amazingly helpful.
The downstairs restaurant has great food and craft cocktails.
Veranda was a really nice feature. It was a great place for us to enjoy coffee or let the dogs out for some fresh air.
Morning coffee & muffins in upstairs bar.
Free parking.
$10/day/credit for food

Cons:
No elevator.
No room service or other 'resort like' amentities to justify the resort fee.
No towels for the dogs, blankets, bowls, etc.
Quiet time begins at 11PM and the upstairs bar area can be noisy until this time. Soundproof doors between the upstairs bar and the hallway that leads to our bedroom hallway would be great.
Bar across the street closes at 2AM and was loud.
Central vernada is accessible to ANYONE entering from the upstairs bar (hotel guests or not) Our first night, people sat out there talking loudly until about 10:45PM.
Floors didn't feel clean.
Veranda was a bit dusty and could use a hosing down or at least a sweep.

In all a really nice place, but wish our room was a bit quieter.

Charming perfection in the heart of downtown

The hotel was charming and full of character which was wanted. It didn’t dissappoint from a comfort level either. The bed and pillows were so comfortable we had amazing sleep. The location of this hotel is perfection. You never have to drive unless you want to check out the state parks. Restaurants and bars and shops are steps from the main entrance.

I love this hotel! Been staying here since before the renovation! The staff are super sweet and the vibes are cozy and vintage. The rooms are quite nice - much better than your average hotel. The restaurant has great food and the bar is perfect. They also allow dogs. We love coming to Nevada City in all seasons and will continue to stay at the National.

I won’t go back. The room was in the back, by the back door that was very busy. Bed was small. Walls were thin. You have to get all the way into the shower to turn it on, hoping it won’t be to cold or to hot. And worst of all there was a blue light near the ceiling that kept strobing all night.

A gorgeous historic hotel centrally located to shopping and restaurants. The hotel bar and restaurant were excellent. We opted for the King Studio and had a nice sized room. Others in our party had small rooms with queen sized beds. We will definitely will return.

This is the largest, and probably best hotel right in Nevada City, on the main street. But it is far enough from any live music venues not to be bothered. A beautifully restored/refitted old brick nineteenth century hotel. I would definitely stay there again in Nevada City. That said, it does not have 21st-century innovations like TV or swimming pools! But if you want old-timey Gold Country charm, I recommend it. The hotel restaurant is good, too. And the staff was professional

We loved it! The modern upgrades were very pleasing, the room decor and the comfort of the bed were fantastic. The spacious lounge area on the second floor was very cool and it had access to the balcony looking over the main street. Lots of antique artifacts to enjoy throughout the building. The location could not have been better, right on Broad Street, chock full of great shops and restaurants. We opted not to eat in the restaurant, even though the decor was historical and really cool, the menu frankly did not look very exciting. We opted for a different restaurant around the corner, and then we came back and had a cocktail in the super cool bar. Do not miss the bar.

We enjoyed the vintage vibes, the grand lounge, the patio, and the amazing dining experience at Lola’s. The food and drinks were excellent.

There were some pet hairs on our bedding upon arrival. The bathroom faucet had a minor leak. There was no microwave on the premises. The nude artwork was offensive.

Off season prices were about average. My wife and I have been coming to Nevada City for almost 50 years. This is the first time staying at the National. Check 1 off our bucket list.
