Room was musty smelling. Floor needed to be swept. Room needed dusting. Shower curtain had mold on the bottom. Shower walls had soap scum. There was a used bar of soap left on the sink. No wifi the entire stay. No phone in room. Lumpy mattresses. Unopened can of Spaghettios under the bed. No boot caddy in the room for wet/muddy shoes, nor any throw rugs. No extra pillows or blankets. Not enough parking (snow banks should have been removed). No mini fridge.

Shower felt like being power washed. No shelf or shower caddy for the shower so all items needed to be placed on the shower floor. The sliding door to the non-code compliant deck(railing is to low) was unlocked un-abled to be locked. Easy to walk to the neighboring decks. No-one at the front desk had to go through a process to finally get a number to call. It had snowed that morning and the gentleman before us had gotten stuck at the entry as it hadn't been plowed, and he had no service to call the Owner. He used our phone and when he asked about when the parking lot was going to be plowed, informed it wouldn't be until the next morning. Lastly the WIFI was not working our entire time their which didn't affect us, as we could still access the internet but several other guest complained because they didn't. Spotty service in the area. Lastly way overpriced for the room size.

The staff is almost no existent. there was no access to the office or the room that had vending, guest stay and local information. the room we stayed in had absolutely zero guest information in the room, only one night stand, no wash clothes. There were a few staff sightings, but they would just look at you from a distance and offer no help. I guess this is what happens when big money buys up a lot of small mom and pop motels. I grew up in this area; this place has gone downhill.

There was no front desk staff to check in with or speak to about issues, just a paper with a phone number taped to the door. The mini-fridge stopped working, so our leftovers expired. The shower door fell off while I was in the shower. More minor complaints include the vents being dirty, lightbulbs missing, the broken curtains not closing all the way, and minor aesthetic problems like unpatched holes in the walls where items used to be. It all added up to a very cheap impression. On a more positive note, there was at least hot water, heating, and the sheets were clean and unstained.

Older rooms, very cold ceramic tile floors, bring something warm for your feet! Lakeside. Heat is run through a/c and is ver loud. No decaf coffee but a good assortment of others. No wash cloth. Linens ok. No check in or check out they just left the key in the room when it was ready.

This place looks local, but it is a corporate schill. I booked a room to see the fireworks at the Ice Castle. When the temps forecasted were -20, I requested cancelling because I was told not to be in that weather because it was dangerous for me because I am coming off heart surgery. Bookin.com was in agreement and willing to cancel. They attempted 3 times to get ahold of Gauthiers, no reply. I emailed twice and left 2 voice messages. No reply. It is disturbing to see the continued cruelty all around us. I ate the room rate ( twice as much as the day after) $253. Needless to say, I will never book there again.

Path way to room was not cleared and had 6” of snow in it that you had to walk through. There is no front desk attendant present on site so the flowers I ordered could not be delivered. I was met in the parking lot by a man and was checked in on his phone that had problems loading while we stood outside awkwardly waiting.

Room was comfortable, view is nice. Bathroom is small. Bed a little firm. Room was noisy at night with the heating & random loud noises at night. Also the place is right next to a main road. Parking can be tight on holiday or busy weekends. Overall not bad for a quick weekend getaway.

The wifi did not work (apparently, they were had a repairman there earlier in the day), and there was still food in the fridge from the previous visitor. The bathroom was very small. There was no mat on the floor at the front door so we tracked snow and slush just inside the entrance. The entire room could use a renovation. Anyway, I called about the wifi and the food in the fridge and they were happy to give us a 10% discount, so that's okay.

We arrived in less rhan ideal conditions, it was dark and snowing on new year’s eve. The reception was closed, with a number left to call. We called to find out which room we were staying in. The person answering the phone was helpful and we self checked into our room, after struggling just a bit to find it. The room was a nice size and had a pleasant view of the frozen lake and a nearby marina. The room was clean and neat, sparsely furnished, mostly of a 70s vintage…but perfectly sevivable. The hotel is close to several restaurants and about a mile from down town saranac lake with its many shops and restaurants. a convenient place to stay at a good price.

This hotel is going through a management change and new staffs. We didnt have a microwave oven in the room and the toilet flush was not functioning properly and the shower didnt have a head so the water was just gushing out. Room was nice and has great lake views just outside. Receptionist was new but did a good job helping us through the stay. Overall a nice hotel close to the lake and hopefully the new management will be able to fix the amenties.

No fan in the bathroom, minimal amenities, MOUSE POOP IN MY BED AND I HAVE PHOTOS. Thermostat does nothing, was uncomfortably hot the entire time. Personally I'd love a refund. No warning of contactless check-in. Hard to track down office and check in procedure in a snow storm.

We booked this accommodation specifically because the listing stated that reliable internet service was available. In reality, the internet was completely non-functional for the entire week of our stay. This was not a minor inconvenience — it materially affected our ability to use the accommodation as intended.

We contacted Expedia during the stay, reported the issue, and were explicitly told by a representative that the matter would be escalated and that we would receive full compensation due to the misrepresentation. Despite this assurance, no follow-up ever occurred and no resolution was provided.

This is unacceptable. The property information was inaccurate, and Expedia failed to honor a clear commitment made by its own support team. At this point, we are not asking for goodwill — we are expecting the compensation that was promised.

Accurate listings, documented follow-through, and accountability from customer support are the minimum standard. This experience fell well below that standard.

Great place for an Adirondack adventure

Gauthier's is a family run lake side inn. We have returned every year since discovering it because it totally suits our needs. It's not fancy, but it has kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, life jackets, fishing poles, bikes and helmets to use while you're there. The hotel is right on the lake with miles of lake and river to be explored. There is an absolutely wonderful bike/walking trail that runs from Tupper Lake to Lake Placid with easy access to it behind the Aldi's which is maybe 100 yards from the hotel. There are several really great restaurants within easy walking distance (which is great if you want to down a few Margaritas!)
The owner is so knowledgeable about the area, and loves to give you ideas to spend your time. The facility itself is dated, it was built in the 1920's, so the rooms, particularly the bathrooms are small by today's standards. But the beds are comfortable, the TV works, the air conditioner is fine, showers have nice hot water. I recommend it for any adventure loving folks, especially families.

It was off season which may account for it being so quiet. The use of bikes, canoe, kayaks complete with life jackets all at your fingertips at no cost when ever you needed it, was great. And you are right on the lake!!!

Yucky bathroom/shower and mattress is the same one from 1975.
Convenient if you need access to Saranac though.

This is in a great are, close to everything. When staying there you feel like you’re not in town viewing the beautiful lake. They offer canoes and kayaks. It’s right across from a marina A great Mexican restaurant right across the street with a liquor store next-door, very convenient. The room was small, but sufficient for two people. The bed was comfortable. I would add shelving in the bathroom. Need more space for toiletries. The mornings were quiet and beautiful when the sun came up, lighting the mountains in the background. It was great for a weekend stay. Will come back.

absolutely gorgeous spot at the end of flower lake. We were happily surprised to see that kayaks and paddle boards were available and free for use on the lake. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Give us great guidance on where to hike and eat and familiarize us with the area.

Overall moderate stay at the property. Hotel seems to be old, rooms are of good size, but we faced problems with door locks, room lighting and AC. Some common places were not cleaned properly too.

There is no restaurant at the hotel but there are others within 1-2 miles. You can order food at the hotel too.
Staff seems to be less too, mostly we preferred DIY for anything needed.

Hotel is situated at the lake side so, you can avail the kayak and small boats for free.

This unexpectedly turned into a solo trip for me, I was really nervous, it was my first solo trip and as a female it can be scary. But I felt safe there, I could enjoy my time, my room was so nice and perfect, it was everything I needed. The kayaks were super convenient to put in and take out if the water. The man at the front desk was so nice, and I will absolutely be back and recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

I really wanted to like this place. I’m fine with retro vibe until it goes south. Location-great! Right on the water, and we took a canoe out for a two hour paddle. Killer sunsets. Life jackets- not safe, old and broken. Room: please remove the following in room 33: moldy shower curtain, chipped drinking glass, sinking old chairs that have my chin right at the level of the table. Also, you’re not eco friendly if you have single use soaps and shampoos. Please go to a flea market and find a shelf for the bathroom, and seating for more than two people if you have a room that can accommodate four. I’ve stayed in other retro hotels (see Bend, OR) and they know what to keep and what to replace.

My fantasy Island

We love it here. A very old hotel but staff could not be more accomidating. We go as often as we can to enjoy the boats (which are free) and the scenery. They have a good ice machine and each room has a microwave and small fridge. Close to hood Mexican and chinese restaurants as well as a brewery and grocery store. Dunkin and McDonalds right there too.
