3 foot electric baseboard heater for a 20x22 room with no heat in the bathroom and 10 foot ceilings, no elevator for a handicapped family member, huge initial flight of stairs then 2 1/2 flights. Had to find another place, will seek reimbursement

The hotel is very old with pealing wall paper. The bathroom curtain was dirty. The heating is an issue, not high enough you will need at least two comforters to get you through the night. No table in the room for you to eat in.

After reading the reviews after I booked non refundable I was prepared to spend a horrific night. But no. The room was made, the sheets and towels were clean. The check-in and out was done through an envelope with my room key with my name at the check in counter. I didn’t have to wait. Yes the decor is from last century but I didn’t even see a ghost. And the restaurant downstairs smelled really good.

Where to begin. Upon arrival at the hotel, we found our key left on the desk with my name, room number and key inside an envelope- no one at the desk. The elevator was broken, the room was 90 degrees, there was dog food on the floor in the corner of the bathroom and we were only given 1 towel for 2 people to use for a 3 night stay. On the paper that was left in the room it had a number to text or call for service since no one was there. I was told someone would be there at 9am the following morning with a towel and to clean the bathroom. That didn’t happen. It took almost 24 hours to even get a towel delivered to our room. Despite the Wi-Fi password being left in the room, the Wi-Fi didn’t work. The TV didn’t work. Definitely had an uneasy feeling staying in this hotel. Other than the bed being a comfy tempurpedic and it being a close walk to Main Street, there was nothing positive about this place.

Spend the couple extra dollars and book somewhere else. We loved the Maple Leaf Inn and Townhouse Lodge for past stays!

Worst room ever

when we arrived, there was no one at the desk just an envelope with our name and the key. The elevator was not working. so, we had to use the stairs. When we got to the room it was verry small. the queen bed took most of the room. As we walked in the floor was moving under our feet. The bathroom was tinny, when you would sit on the toilet your head was in the sink. The TV didn't work. If it wasn't late WE would have left for some were else. Worst room I ever stayed at. Hotels.com should be ashamed for offering this place.

It appears they are working on renovating this property however they are not even close to being finished. We ended up not staying. We rented 2 rooms and had to walk up a lot of stairs. No one on duty at hotel. Elevator was not working. One room only had one plug in and the air conditioner was plugged into it. The pictures on Expedia must have been from the best room they have because both rooms we booked did not even look near that good. I would not recommend staying here.

We booked this last minute because it was close to the wedding we were going to. The staff was very nice and attentive but our room reeked of smoke and there were stains all over the carpet. We’re also pretty sure we saw a ghost. I wouldn’t stay here again.

If you're looking for a cheap spot to stay near the village and aren't planning to spend too much time in the hotel room I would stay here. The room was clean but very outdated, the wallpaper in the bathroom was falling off and some of the bathroom tiles were broken. There is a TV but it looks more like a computer screen. The pillows were paper thin so maybe pack your own pillow. Free coffee, tea and water in the lobby - we didn't eat at the restaurant. There was someone at the front desk when we checked in but that is the only time I saw someone, which was okay because when we booked it said no front desk staff. Overall, cheapest spot very close to the main street but very old.

The property was close to town but did not have hot tub as listed, could not get extra pillows. The ones provided were extremely flat. There were no curtains or blinds on any of my windows so when i showered i turned around to have people standing there staring at me naked. Noone is at the desk, u have to call for everything. Could not get my tv to work. No fridge for leftovers. Shampoo but no cond. Just a room like a hostel. Food downstairs is always excellent. Have eaten there several times but will not reccomend or stay again. Not worth the price.

Don’t waste time or money

We had stayed at the pines inn before but after this stay we will never stay there again. The only thing this place had going for it was it was fairly clean. We had no blinds or curtains on the windows including one in the bathroom. There was no one at the front desk when we got there and our key was not on the counter even though we did the online based registration. We had one pillow each if you can call them pillows. The sheets were on their last thread. We had forgotten something in the room and called to be able to stop back and get it. When we showed up and had to wait 20 minutes for someone to help I was told it had already been thrown out after being told earlier it would be there. Overall horrible experience.

If cleanliness is a priority for a budget, this place would meet expectations. If you are looking for fancy, you are in the wrong place.

We have always enjoyed staying at the pines and while the staff was polite our room lacked any window coverings. No shades no blinds. At night we felt like we were in a fishbowl and the sun was very bright in the am. We requested blinds or another room and were told nothing could be done, but we could hang towels. I’m not sure I would stay again.

The room was exactly as described. It was a cost effective option for an evening for my girlfriend and myself. The tempur-pedic bed was extremely comfortable which is great. The room was clean, the water pressure was great. The toiletries provided were in condiment packages which were...a little lacking. But really other than that it was a pleasant evening and I'd stay again if I needed to.

The room we were staying in was very dirty. The ceiling fan was filled with dust. The bathroom door had a difficult time opening and closing. No refrigerator in the room. The TV was difficult to set up and very outdated. The only good thing about the property was the location, walking distance from downtown.

If I had known there was no elevator I would not have booked there. Building is very old and reminds me of a cheap retirement home.
It’s not falling apart but it needs updating.
Beds were clean but light bulbs were missing.
Holes in wall poorly patched, stairs are a challenge for older people or those with mobility problems.

This was really a bad experience in every way. First there is no working elevator, so be ready for steep stairs. There was no TV, no fridge or microwave, no soap or shampoo. Not even handsoap at the sink. I travel a lot and never been in a hotel without these basics. Obviously no cups, coffee, ice buckets in room. Coffee in kuerig downstairs, however, we were hiking and there were no cups. So no coffee either. We learned the front desk was only available 10 to 10 so unfortunately the no soap issue waited until 10 am the next day. This was probably the worst place I ever stayed. Also, the wall paper was peeling off the walls.

No one working in the hotel before 4. Waited an hour for someone to check us in. Finally someone showed up to work but he disappeared up stairs. Never saw him again.
Called the phone number for help checking and the person was completely unhelpful. Said we just had to wait.
Not accessible at all. You have to carry your bags up narrow stairs.

It's an old building, with old interiors as well. We already went knowing that, therefore with very low expectations. The experience was surprisingly positive. The location is so worth it. Since we planned most of our days outside, the hotel room was only for sleeping and showers. Everything was reasonably clean, there was no smells from the carpet or anything. Bed was comfortable and temperature was pleasant, with AC. The guy at reception was kind when giving our keys. There's no fridge or Microwave in the room, but there's water, coffee/tea, and a microwave in the main floor. Toileteries are included but simple, I'd recommend taking your own shampoo/conditioner with you. I'd go back in a summer circumstance.

When I arrived, nobody here for the checkin, just a key on the frontdesk with the number of the room. Then I went to my room with a bad smell that lingers throughout the hotel. Finally I try to enter in my room and a woman inside. Go back to the reception but nobody to help me... A young man arrives in shorts and slippers to try to give me another room without even apologizing... No elevator, even though I had 6 huge bags to carry. A horrible experience! I don’t even understand how it can be rated so well. Clearly, a hotel in abandonment.

Underwhelming Service

First place I have ever stayed where there was NOBODY at the front desk to greet you. They have an automated check-in process that requires you to take photos of your ID.

I called the property while on my way to ask about early check-in and was told there would be a $35 charge. First time for that, too, but I was in no position to decline, given the very late check-in time of 4:00 and the fact that I was in town for an event that started before then. I was not pleased to arrive and still have to wait for a human to get a key for me, after having paid extra, and then finding that he was letting others check in just a few minutes later (still an hour early) without charging them $35.

It’s a nice old hotel that looks like it used to be quite grand many years ago, but now it gives off a creepy Overlook Hotel (The Shining) vibe, especially with no people around. Needless to say, I don’t plan to return. At least I made it out alive.

As a fan of historical and eclectic places, I liked the Pines Inn a lot. There is a lot to look and the place has a whimsical vibe. If you expect luxury, this place is not for you. If you have mobility issues, this place is not for you. We visited in the winter. The parking was ample and the location is central to LP. In walking distance to several coffee shops and eateries. We also appreciated the pet friendly environment. I would go back again, the rates are fair and we prefer indulging on eateries rather than have a 5* hotel.

LOWER THAN ONE STAR

No elevator only stairs and a lot of them. No handicap access. No one at the desk. No help from management, even by Phone.
The first night we were awoken by water pouring into our room because of a broken fire system pipe (Not a Fire.). We were soaked as well as all our luggage. There was water flowing throughout the stairways and the ceiling. When we got to the lobby no one would speak to us. They were more concerned with the noise disturbing other customers and were only interested in getting the alarm to stop.
We waited as long as we could for help but as it was the middle of February and we needed to get to a warm room and dry off, the fire department recommended a couple of places that may have a room. It was now one in the morning so with no help from management to be found we left and were lucky enough to find a room and began drying out at Two in the morning.
The next day we returned to the pines to discuss things. They said we would be responsible for all charges because we left and they now had a room available. We were told we didn't canceled correctly. I told them our room with water pouring into it canceled not us. The manager said that's their policy.
I said I wanted a full refund and as of yet neither the Pines nor the Booking company has refunded a dime. It’s crazy to involve an attorney but this management company is terrible so they give you no alternative.

It was very old overall. Staff were nice except there were very few people working. The beds are loud and old/unstable. The bathroom was not very appealing either as the shower barely worked. No microwave or fridge. There is a nice large lobby though to hang out at with coffee and tea.

There was a lot to like ... the location is good, the hotel was clean, the parking lot was kept clear of new snow. But it's hard to get past the age of the building. There is a definite musty odor, but it's not too strong and is expected with a building this old. The floors are also quite slanted. I felt like I was walking down hill going from one side of my room into the bathroom.

The thing I disliked the most was not having anyone at the front desk. I was told that I would get an email on the day of check-in to provide instructions. When I didn't receive anything, I emailed the hotel. I received a response pretty quickly, but was just told that there would be an envelope on the counter inside the hotel, with my name and room number written on it. Inside was my key. An actual key with a room tag on it.

Overall, it was okay. I really just wanted to place to sleep and shower and that's what it was.

We were grateful for the friendliness and accommodation of the staff to our requests. This hotel is in a great location and the lodging is comfortable and clean. It is a work in progress as they are renovating it over time, and it has excellent bones. The food at the restaurant next to the lobby was very good! If you're traveling to the area and plan to spend most of your time outside, don't want to spend a fortune, and don't need a five-star hotel rating - I can happily recommend this location!

I recently stayed at The Pines Hotel in Lake Placid, and it was a fantastic experience! While the hotel has an older charm, it is well-maintained, clean, and comfortable—exactly what you need for a great stay in this beautiful area.

One of the standout features is the location—you can’t beat it! It’s conveniently situated near all the attractions Lake Placid offers, making exploring the town, enjoying outdoor activities, or visiting easy.

The rooms were tidy, and the beds were comfortable. I appreciated the attention to cleanliness, which made the stay all the more pleasant.

If you’re looking for a great value, a comfortable stay, and a prime location, The Pines Hotel is an excellent choice for any visit to Lake Placid. This is my preferred hotel in Lake Placid when I visit!

Well my family and I did not stay. The pictures were misleading and our room was not up to a normal standard. I wish I would have looked at the reviews before booking and am hoping to get some type of refund. I cannot imagine sleeping there and found a lovely place in Saranc Lake. The room was small, dirty, no amenities and a waste pipe sticking out of the ceiling.

We knew from the other reviews this was going to be a tough property, and it was pretty dead on. No one at check in, you just grab your keys laying out. Our tv didn't work, we found someone helping someone else find their room, and he was able to fix it quickly. The beds were comfortable, sheets and blankets fine. Bathroom was mouldy, ceiling was stained with mould and cracks. I think the biggest issue was the wood framed building was so creaky and thin, I could hear the person above me peeing and they were up at 4am, so were we. We knew what we were getting into, it is priced fairly. Good option for a cheap stay, but as advertised.

This was my second stay. The first last year was okay. So I decided to stay and try it again.
I was given room 210. I entered, the room, it was ice cold with only a space heater in it. This was December 7th.
I went to the front desk Jeff(?) the maintenance person was there, I told him the situation and he gave me a 2nd space heater. I asked if there was a different room available, he said no. I couple minutes later he knocked and said he had a new room. Number 104. I thanked him.
I moved my bags and settled in. Upon entering the bed, I saw the sheets had not been changed. You could tell by the portion of the bed that was not slept on AND there were a persons pubic hairs clearly on the bottom sheet.
Too tired to complain, I slept on top of the blanket in my clothes. I told myself, never again stay at this property.

Arrived at 8pm on a Friday night, no one at front desk, keys left out. Entered room to find it not cleaned. Took over an hour to get someone to help. Eventually got a second room that was clean. Many others complaining of no clean towels, tv not working, and general poor hotel conditions. Would not recommend.

Walkable distance to Mirror lake, free parking, good restaurant on premises. No stuff, however check in and check out was easy. Room had all necessities.

Perfect location. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. Good for the money. The room needed vacuuming. But the bathroom and everything else seemed clean.
Perfect location. Three minute walk to Mirror Lake. Would like a room with a fridge next time. No bar soap, just a few samples of shampoo and one sample of body wash. There is no front desk personnel whatsoever. You're on your own when you arrive if you need any help with the room, etc.

The front lobby is quaint . The tv and internet took awhile to get to work. The bed was good . It took awhile for the heat to warm the room . The bathroom was icy cold but it was clean. Took awhile for hot water. The lamp plugged up under the bed and it was unplugged in order to run extension cord to air conditioner so I had the change that. I ve never stayed somewhere that didn’t have a frig .. I overlooked that and this left me unable to keep my husband’s insulin in the fridge:( . We slept fine . And it does have some charming features .

Furniture/room is decades old. Wallpaper peeling, mold behind. Lose (and sharp) tiles in bathroom floor (obviously a hazard for bare feet). Sheets were not cleaned. No staff at desk. And NO HOT WATER. Absolutely atrocious.... Trying for refund, as I had no shower/clean bed.

I listed the good things about the location above. The one really nice thing about the place was the spacious lobby and parlor with a wraparound porch. Also, there is a restaurant in the same building which is nice if you don't feel like walking down the hill to town. However, the building is sorely in need of a facelift and renovation. The bathroom furnishings are decrepit, the blinds fall down if you try to adjust them, there is mold on the window frames, the rug is badly stained and discolored, the windows are as thin as can be, leaking cold air and making it sound as if the windows are open as traffic goes by. The walls are thin so sound travels from neighboring rooms. No-one was ever seen at the front desk, literally. The keys were in an envelope and only a telephone number to call for help. I wanted to find out how to work theTV or get an extra blanket for the bed but no-one was around to talk to. It was the worst hotel I have been in since Guatemala, years ago. I don't recommend it unless you are planning on crashing there after a day on the trail or returning from a bar cruise downtown. Not comfortable, tight room.

Frightening stay

Room was not clean! Half the light bulbs were blown. Outlets were scarce and not accessible. Never saw a person the entire weekend to ask any questions or get direction to even find the room. Television didn’t work and was not in the main bedroom. Felt creepy. Wallpaper was falling off the walls. Maybe with renovations it would be fine. The restaurant seemed hopping although I didn’t eat there.

It's an old building that needs some updating; but it is also one of the beauties of it. Yes as people mentioned things are old and there are some updates that need to be made. It is odd the way check in was done; but it worked. I did find it over priced; but It was clean, just old; and served it's purpose and was comfortable. People made it seem worse than it actually was. Location wise is perfect; walking distance to everything.

Dirty carpet, peeling wallpaper that looked dated 60 years. Musty 30 year old window air conditioner that the filter had to be washed in the bathtub. ripped curtains and a clothes iron print burned into the carpet. The elevator has been apparently out of service for such a long time that they put decorations and tables in front of it and I would of liked to not walked up stairs because I injured tendons around my knee requiring crutches. I would assume that would be an ADA failure especially when you have stairs required to get to every room. No on-site hotel attendant so everything was done by leaving room keys on a desk which would of been interesting if someone that isn't a paying visitor just picked up a few keys and stayed in a room unannounced. When you needed things like toiletries you had to wait hours to receive them because the room wasn't stocked or inspected before hand. Empty soda bottles and trash in the table drawers. TV was not working when we got to our room. Paying over $350 for a room just to sleep on a bed is a bit over price.

Price was great , there was no staff, had to call for problem with tv, maintenance guy was fantastic.would probably stay again if we could get room on 1st floor.
