The four-star Western Hotel, nestled in the heart of Galway City, offers high-quality accommodations in three impressive Georgian buildings. This family-run hotel seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern conveniences.

Our long tradition of hospitality creates a unique and friendly atmosphere, making you feel right at home. We offer a variety of rooms, including single, double, twin, family, and triple rooms, as well as accessible rooms for wheelchair users.

The Western Hotel Bar is a warm and welcoming traditional pub, renowned for hosting Galway's largest traditional Irish music sessions. Our hotel restaurant features a tantalizing selection of dishes made from fresh, local produce, including a carvery, snack menu, and an à la carte menu in the evening.

Room was nice, very basic and a bit aged but it had everything we needed. Location was very good and only a short walk to everywhere we wanted to go.

It was the Christmas period so Galway itself was quite lively, with that so were many guests. The hotel does not contain noise very well. You can hear footsteps and people walking around on the floor above you quite easily and made it quite hard to fall asleep. On one of the nights we were woken up at 3:30am by some man/men trying to get into our room a few times. This was quite unsettling and made us feel unsafe. We notified staff the next morning and were thanked for informing them but heard nothing else. It was quite disappointing. On the day of checkout when asked about our stay we told them again and they looked into it but said as it was just drunk guests there was nothing they could do.

We also had someone on our floor 2 doors down from us smoking and playing music very loudly until around midnight.

The hotel was very clean and well kept, the free parking was a great bonus.

However the noise that carried through the hotel and our unfortunate incident would deter me from returning.

Reception staff were the best part of our stay — very friendly and helpful.

The car park is tiny, hard to find, and cars often need to be moved, which increases the risk of damage (nothing happened to ours, but it felt stressful). Our room was spacious and warm but dated, with worn towels, and the hotel overall could use modernisation.

Checkout was slow and awkward: we were asked again for card details for snacks/minibar despite not using anything, and we had to wait while they checked the room. The lift also stopped working one morning, which was inconvenient from the third floor

The size of the quad was enormous. Lovely little hotel with the most beautiful lobby. The bar was fabulous and there was a great Trad session in swing. Will definitely be back.

We stayed here one night, and were very pleased that we were able to check in a little early after a redeye flight. I had mentioned upon booking that we were celebrating something and the hotel staff had left a special treat for us and a handwritten note on the table in our room. The location is unbeatable, the price is fair, and the charm of staying in a hotel as old as this one can't be beat. I would recommend this to others and I would stay here again.

The Western Hotel is located in the heart of Galway – an easy 5-10 minute walk to downtown and Eyre Square. Despite on-going renovations, the front staff were wonderful and got us checked into our room. The rooms were large by Irish standards and were ideal for several days. We loved the time and can’t wait to come-back.

Not a great hotel for what you pay for. Disappointing that hotels at lower price points in both Dublin and Dingle were luxury compared to this dated hotel. Shaun’s in carpets, wierd and small front desk and hallway. Was fine for a night to sleep but that’s about it. Would not recommend

We stayed in a 3-bed room (1 queen and 2 twins). It was clean, beds very comfortable. Room was large and great for a family. Great shower and tub. Parking was easy to find and free which was important for us road tripping. What I was most pleasantly surprised about was how quiet it was. They’re remodeling their street entrance but we were the first room and slept all the way till our alarm at 0930, so very quiet indeed.

Really liked the breakfast and dinner options. The bar area and restaurant are beautiful and the staff friendly. Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom lacked space for our things, with the only sink being a small pedestal style sink- no counter space. The room was quiet when the window was shut, but when open you could hear street noise. There is no AC, so the room can be warm in the Summer months, especially if you need to close the window to gain some quiet.

The Room was incredibly warm and humid, despite the hallway and outdoors being significantly cooler. Window didn’t open more than a cm, bathroom fan didn’t work— creating a very unpleasant warm and humid bedroom. Black mildew on shower curtain, towels felt cheap and hardly dried. Building also going through a renovation which was not made known to us until arrival. Day two of our stay had the strong smell of spray paint and our room even smelled of it into the wee hours of the night. Certainly will not be staying here again!

The hotel was a little difficult to navigate, however our room was lovely (even with the noisy bird outside the window). The room was a bit small, but the bathroom roomy. The reception area was too small—not convenient for several people to stand to check in. My husband enjoyed the restaurant and bar. Hotel was in a great area. Easy walk to downtown. The Jungle Cafe across the street was a delicious breakfast choice. Free parking is offered.

I’d like to give it 5 stars but can’t. Offered an upgrade at registration and took it. But the upgrade was in an ally with too much middle of the night and early morning delivery and work noise. Plus the parking outside the apartment was not reserved for the unit. It rained and we had to walk from the main building. What should have been the designated space was used by deliveries playing their radios loud. Not an upgrade! Otherwise almost everything else was fine. Fix this or alert your guests please.

Great location.. 5 min walk to eyre square and Latin quarter another 2 min walk.. 5 min uphill walk from bus station. older hotel... small rooms.. quaint. new bathrooms, great water pressure and warmth. but small.. older room and furniture. staff SUPER helpful. 110 and 109 was in the front of the building nice view of the street. but over the bar... so could clearly hear the live music at night. fortunately so tired didn't care and the music was pleasant. allowed us to check out at 1pm and prepaid 20E... but they didn't tell the staff so they kept calling the room and checking when we returned if we didn't know check out was earlier. I told them I paid and they apologized. When I checked asked if I could store luggage when I checked out... answer sure!! but after late check out at 1pm. I tried to store luggage.. they said NO we are full. Very annoyed.. So we walked 5 min down to Eyre Square and stored luggage 5E per bag for 24 hours so we could wander Galway for another 6 hours.. don't like it when hotel says they can do something and cannot deliver. Great location.. great staff.. the renovating.. but don't promise things without being able to deliver..

Condition of hotel was so-so. Hallway carpets are worn. Room carpets were stained and should be replaced. Rooms were small considering it is a small city and the cost. It is an older hotel with character but could use some refreshing. Toilet did not work when we arrived but was fixed within an hour or so. Service was fine

Easy to find the property and parking was very easy. From the directions, it sounded like parking was down the road. We were pleasantly surprised parking was really just under the building and there was an elevator right up into the hotel!
We really enjoyed the music in the bar in the evenings! Wish food was available a bit later, but we understand that is rare. We were surprised the room did not have a refrigerator. It was a bit of an inconvenience but not major.

Excellent stay - would recommend to anyone. Hotel was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent - buffet of cold options and hot breakfast choice cooked to order. Food was delicious. Parking is very limited, had to double park cars but attendant responded promptly to move them and it wasn’t an issue. We easily walked into Eyre Square, Latin Quarter etc and back. We stayed a second night in Galway later in our trip pre booked at a different hotel - wish we had come back to the Western.
