This hotel has very many rooms. There are a lot of people here. Around 1000 tourists + staff. They also building 300 new rooms so in a year you can add about 5-600 more tourists. That’s so stupid. If you like a lot of people and a tourist machine this is the place for you. If you like some kind of charm and personality avoid this place at all costs.
After a day the group of us (4 people) got diarrhea and this lasted all days. One of us got an allergic reactions after 5 days and got really bad with visit to nearby hospital for a day.
Reception: they are rude and treat you like nothing. When you pay 350 usd per day you expect more. All other staff are great.
When it comes to restaurants you can book they close some of the best regularly. That means you have to be very lucky to book a table here. Kulinarisk and the Italian.
In my opinion that is no good. The hotel advertise this as a gem but in 8 days at this place we managed to book 2 times.

Overall we regret spending 3500 usd at this place. Next year it is even worse.

Good food but… something to know, they offered an upgrade from partial ocean view to full ocean and the bed was two doubles pushed together and no king size sheets so sleeping together was not an option comfortably… huge disappointment. When we asked staff to at least put king size blankets so we could share the covers they did not. Huge disappointment but if sleeping together isn’t an issue this place was really nice. They didn’t have all the drink options available but staff was friendly and pleasant

I just got back from a 4-night stay at Riu Jambo, and honestly, if you’re looking for that postcard-perfect Zanzibar turquoise water, this is the spot. But like any big resort, there are a few things you should know before you book.

The Location & Beach (10/10) This is the absolute highlight. Since it’s located in Nungwi, the tide doesn't go out for miles like it does on the East Coast. You can actually swim in the ocean all day long. The beach is pristine, and the sunsets from the jetty bar are probably the best I’ve ever seen. Pro tip: Head to the \"See You\" bar on the jetty around 5:30 PM to snag a seat for sunset.

The Food & Drinks For an all-inclusive, the food was surprisingly good. The main buffet (Maisha) has a massive variety, but it can feel a bit like a \"canteen\" during peak hours because it gets very loud and busy.

The Speciality Restaurants: We tried the Asian (Yunnan) and the Italian (Il Panzotto). The Italian place on the jetty is a must—the atmosphere is way more intimate than the buffet.

Drinks: They don’t stingy with the drinks, and the cocktails are decent, though sometimes a bit sugary.

The Rooms We had a lateral sea view room. It was modern, super clean, and the AC worked like a charm.

Wow! This was my first time in Tanzania, and staying at this hotel made the trip unforgettable. The property is absolutely beautiful, and my room was very nice. Everything still feels new, clean, and very well maintained.

The people, the service, the food, and the drinks were all amazing. Every day, the meals and beverages were fresh and delicious. I also loved seeing the chefs come out to speak with guests and check in on service — such a thoughtful touch. The entertainment was great as well; I had so much fun!

I truly had the best time and honestly didn’t want to leave. I even got sick during my stay, and the team took such great care of me. As a solo traveler, I felt completely at home.

I’d like to recognize a few employees who made my stay especially welcoming and well taken care of:

Restaurant Servers: Neema, Mwita,Hamad, Husna, and Ally

And the entire lobby bar team — they were fantastic.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff were so pleasant and friendly, the room was spacious and so clean. The service was fantastic, sometimes in big resorts the quality of service can slip but that was not the case here. The food was amazing and lots of variety every day. - Rooms were clean and the sea view was perfect

- The food offerings were good with a lot of options, I especially loved breakfast

- All the staff and RIU Jambo for pleasant and charasmatic. Good customer service goes a long way and RIU Jambo has some of the best customer service I have experienced

- Hotel grounds were beautiful with plenty of spots for pictures

- Spa was nice and professional offering a wide range of services

- Beach at this location was great for swimming and water activities

This property was a nice property, but unfortunately there were many cons.
1. The hotel is massive and it takes forever just to get from one place to another. If you don't like big resorts and would like something more intimate, this place is not for you
2. The beach peddlers just don't leave you alone. The constantly beg you to buy stuff or harass you which is extremely annoying, especially if you are there for some R&R. They follow you and just cannot take \"NO\" for an answer. Even the security is around, they just bother you
3. The food was just \"ok\". fruits were unripe, lots of fried foods which is very unhealthy, and the quality of the food was mediocre
4. The gym had only some equipment working (1 treadmill working only). There were no heavy weights at all, which I thought was weird
5. I had a DND on my door for a few days, and the hotel staff wanted to know why I didn't need the room cleaned. I'm a grown adult who can make my own bed and clean up after myself. If I needed something, I would have asked them to come clean my room. There should be no questioning or sending me a message to ask why I had it hanging on my door. I'm not wasteful, I'm resourceful
6. There is no iron in the room. When I called to inquire, they stated to me that I can only use it for an hour, and many other people were ahead of me. I've never been to a hotel and had to call to use an iron with a 1hr timeframe
7. My room had NO hot water. When I called the front desk, it took 3 days to fix

Underbar vistelse på en ren och trevlig anläggning med vänlig personal. Ligger fantastiskt på stranden. Utanför resorten inte mycket att se/äta/shoppa tyvärr. Stort utbud av god mat och dryck. Gymmet hade en del trasiga maskiner och spa avdelningen ekade alltid tom förmodligen för de höga priserna på behandlingar. Underhållning på kvällen var lite sisådär men funkade. Åker gärna tillbaka.

I didn’t like the shopping store at RIU because it’s too expensive and they don’t offer much variety also the tours office is the same and the tours prices depends on the kind of people that are asked and that’s no fair.
The food at the buffet was very much the same, It would’ve been nice every day had something different.

My partner and I spent 8 nights at Riu Jambo and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was clean, spacious, and overlooked the beach, which made for a beautiful setting. Housekeeping maintained it well, with daily cleaning that kept everything fresh and comfortable.

The staff at Riu Jambo were outstanding — always full of energy, warm, and incredibly helpful. I unfortunately had an accident while in Zanzibar (unrelated to the hotel), and the way the staff supported me during my recovery was truly exceptional. They were accommodating, caring, and always ready to assist.

A special thank you to William, who we often saw in the buffet dining room. He was a pleasure to speak with and always made sure my partner and I were comfortable and well looked after. The rest of the breakfast and dinner team were equally amazing — attentive, friendly, and welcoming throughout our stay.

While the food could be a little repetitive at times, there was a wide variety and something to suit everyone’s tastes.

If I return to Zanzibar, I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you to everyone at Riu Jambo for making our experience so positive — a well-deserved 10/10!

Overall nice hotel; however the food was repetitious. You better make it to each meal service on time or else you wont eat. There are no snack stations throughout the day.

It would have been nice to be notified of ON-GOING construction. Construction that starts as early as 8am and ends as last as 8pm.

They offer late checkouts, but do allow you to get it. As they book rooms back to back to back.

Trust me you'll nee the late check considering the lack of sleep you'll get while here.

Be advised construction is NO where near finished! It will be noisey snd disruptive well in the end of 2025.

Watch out for excursion scammers! They are definitely present. Better to book excursions once you have arrived with the hotel.

Thyr make you nook other restaurants thru thr app, which doesn't work once you're on property. And NO one will help you, especially not the staff.

They will constantly redirect you back to the app....so good luck with that.

I was a solo female traveler. I felt safe, so no worries there.

We really enjoyed this resort. Was very clean and all of the staff was friendly and helpful. They had daily activities, plenty of pools, and bars. The food was just ok and they only allow you to book the restaurants once no matter how many days you are staying. This was very disappointing because we had to keep going to the buffet which didn’t have the best food and served the same thing daily. They had daily shows which were pretty bad and not worth sitting through. Outside of that the rooms had everything we needed and they kept the fridge stocked with water and soda which was helpful. The only other negative is there was no shuttle to the airport and they charged $60 for transportation one way.

I genuinely enjoyed my stay at this property and felt safe during my stay as a solo traveler. While the room I had was quite basic—likely due to booking at the last minute and limited availability—it still provided the essentials for a comfortable stay. That said, there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to cleanliness, as the room did not quite meet my expectations in that regard.

Despite that, the overall property is beautiful and well-maintained. It’s spacious, with stunning beach views that really elevate the experience. The staff were consistently pleasant, professional, and eager to help. I had a minor issue with one of the outlets in my room, and maintenance responded promptly and efficiently, which I greatly appreciated.
One of the highlights of my stay was the food—it was truly amazing. As someone who is a fairly picky eater, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety offered. Every meal exceeded my expectations.
Overall, the combination of a gorgeous property, great service, and exceptional food made this a memorable stay, and I would definitely consider returning—hopefully with the chance to book a better room next time.

This property was clean and offered various dining options. While I did not utilize the restaurants that required reservations, I did use the main dining option (Maisha, I believe). After a few days, I was tired of the food. In my opinion, every buffet should have chicken, and I did not see chicken on every lunch and dinner buffet. Also, the flies were all over foods that were not hot (some fruit and other room temperature items such as bread). I threw one piece of bread out due to the flies. They should invest in the food umbrellas that can cover food from flies.

There were several pools and, of course, access to the beach. Since it is now the rainy season, I did not see any activities advertised for children during the rain.

Also, the tiles around the hotel, especially on the stairs, were extremely dangerous when wet. There were no handrails, and the tiles were very slippery. I almost fell a few times.

Finally, some staff did not speak much English. I asked one staff member in the restaurant if I could have an egg white omelet, and after several attempts, he still did not understand my request. All that said, I would stay again, but not during the rainy season.

Disappointed that from the moment we arrived we were told varying information regarding the 3 all inclusive bookable restaurants in the hotel. First it was wait until 3pm, then wait until 4pm, then the app is closed for today try at 7am tomorrow, then the restaurants are closed some days due to low season. Had we known this when booking we would have chosen differently.
We were not able to go to any of the restaurants during our stay; Yunnan was close every night, we saw Kulinarium and Il Panzotto once once each with less than 50% of the seats taken. We had to eat at the buffet each night which was fine but very repetitive.
Another small annoyance was that we requested a late check out but were told to come to reception on the checkout day to find out if we could have it (which we could not).
The facilities were great, room, pool and beach were lovely. Staff were very friendly but the systems seemed outdated and they all had different information.

The staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. Plenty of pool choice. Plenty of loungers around the pool. Beach loungers get taken very quickly. Sea is amazing and warm. Food plenty of choice, though wasn't always hot! Always some where to sit. The two restaurants in the sea were a faff to book and we gave up in the end. Snack bar during the day on the beach was great though got busy at times. Lots of power cuts. Staff were amazing when my mother was taken ill, they were very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were kept clean and tidy everyday by house keeping. Loved the floral touches on the bed. There are loads and loads of stairs just to warn those with disabilities or walking issues. There are lifts but depending on where your room is you may have to walk a fair distance to get to the lifts. The beach sellers are a nightmare but as long as you are polite but firm you will be ok, does get frustrating though just to get into the sea. There's a souvenir market just up the beach worth a look and remember to barter with the sellers. The building site next door is extremely loud but you only hear this whilst on the beach and some pools. You do get use to the noise. It isn't constant. All in all we had an amazing holiday. I would happily return. Oh and the sea view from the room was amazing.

If you like large resorts, you will enjoy RIU Jambo. The food at the buffet and the drinks were very good. The bartenders were all friendly, especially at the swim up bar. The beach is beautiful and the warm ocean is very swimmable. We appreciated being able to find beach and pool chairs to use. My only disappointment was we stayed for three nights and were only able to make reservations at one of the two specialty restaurants that wasn’t a buffet - even though I logged on immediately after arriving in the early afternoon.

This is a great choice for a relaxing break. The facilities are excellent and the hotel is more than adequately staffed, who cannot be faulted - efficient, helpful, and all with a smile on their faces. The whole place was spotlessly clean and the grounds, the beach and the garden exquisitely maintained.
The quality and the variety of food available for each meal is incredible, with the menu changing every day.
The two points that need attention are (1) controlling the traders on the beach so that they are not pestering anyone obviously not interested in buying anything, and (2) the luggage trolleys going along the corridors to the rooms facing the beach can be a bit noisy as those corridors can act like a bit of an echo chamber.
But these are minor points in the grand scheme of things.

I always choose Riu for my stay while on vacation for the pass 7 years. Unfortunately this time on my booking, I requested a sea view room. Since my checking was after 9:00pm. I was so tired I just went strait to bed. to waking up the next day by construction noise and this last all day. When I went to investigate what was going on. instead of partial sea vieux, I got noisy construction went to the lobby and file so I can get a portion of the rental payment return to me. I never heard anyone until I left.

Staff amazing they cannot do enough.
Room 1st room i was told was upgraded but what they gave me was a downgrade. I opened the balcony doors and the view i had was a construction site for a nee hotel being built. The noise was intolerable as it started at 7am and continued well intonthe nightpast 9pm. I complained and was moved the following day to another room away from the noise and site. The new room came with a blocked sink and a shower that leaked into my room through the wall. I had to complain again the sink was fixed but the leak from the shower was not and we had tonuse towels to mop up the water. We always had to ask for towels as they would not be left after the room was cleaned but this was easily rectified by a quick call to reception.

I have to say that the staff at the restaurants where amazing and attentive. Food was fanatastic even for a veggie like me lots of variety everyday.

All in all it was a pleasant stay, location outside of the hotel was not great.

The beach and sea were magical, plenty of sun longers etc.

Check in could be better as our flight arrived at 7am and we could not get a room till 3pm but we did have full use of the hotel facilities.

We’ve never booked with RIU resort’s, and now we know why. Noisy beds and housekeeping can’t clean properly. Property is very lovely. Beach area is ok, but you will be harassed by locals. Some of the staff have attitude issues also. Will be returning to Africa, but won’t use RIU ever again

This resort is perfect. We had absolutely no complaints. Food was excellent. Staff was excellent. If we needed anything for our room, it was provided immediately. We booked safari, Safari Blue, Snorkeling and jet skiing through the hotel and they were very reasonably priced and exceptional. Thank you Rui Jambo for helping to make our visit to your island truly memorable.

Amazing hotel the staff were always very smiley and super helpful. They were the highlight of the stay. The complex felt super safe. We used every pool and the beach area for relaxing. We also had the chance to book the restaurants in the hotel which all offered something different but were all great quality.

Hotel is on side of island that is very chill and relax so to go into town must call taxi. Ride is about 30-40 min. Staff does great job of arranging taxi

Riu Jambo had all amenities and activities that I did not feel the need to leave the hotel to book excursions outside. Very convenient, friendly staff, helpful. Mini bar in the room was excellent.

My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves at this resort for 4 nights! The staff was very nice and the food was very good. The hotel was clean and very well taken care of. I would highly recommend and will be coming back.

Had a great time-beautiful views, excellent service, great food options. The only problem was the construction site that was very noisy mainly in the mornings when you wanted to sleep in.......so we had to upgrade (pay more) to be moved to a different side.Otherwise everything else was GREAT!!!!

The hotel was amazing. Food options were plentiful. Staff was so wonderful. Everyone kept asking if we needed anything. Had different activities. Beach was beautiful. Would absolutely recommend. Make reservations for the special restaurants days in advance as they book up quick!

All restaurants needs reservations three days ahead. Meaning you only eat at buffet if you don’t have reservations. Weird closing times. It was times nothing was open in the middle of the day . I think this place need more OPEN food choices

Alles was perfekt bis auf die rüpelige Zugangsstraße zum Resort. Es waren keine Schlaglöcher, es waren Seen die man überqueren musste um mit einem Taxi zum Resort zu kommen.

Great stay, brilliant team, really enjoyable

We had a lovely stay at the hotel and really enjoyed it from the first to last minute even though the weather was not amazing. The service was very good and the food and drinks were all great. We managed to get a booking in the Asian restaurant and celebrated by fathers 70th birthday. Really impressed with the hotel and the team and will be back in the future.

The hotel has plenty of amenities, friendly staff and amazing food options. The only improvement are options for kids clubs. Some of the activities my kids wanted to do either didn’t start or started late.
The RIU art was awesome.
