Couldn’t think of a critique , such a relaxing resort. Staff was impeccable. My wife and I stayed 3 nights, there wasn’t a moment we weren’t impressed. The buffets were great, there were activities constantly and the staff was so attentive. Special shout out for Neema in the buffet area, Joseph at the beach area and Ali the groundskeeper. Thanks for such an amazing experience

We stayed at Gold Zanzibar for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect! We booked a garden villa and it was so spacious, and the private plunge pool was very fun to have. All of the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our butler, Jackeline, was so helpful and friendly! They also gifted us a bottle of champagne and fruit on our arrival which was so nice. There are shows with dinner every night which are really wonderful, and the buffet options are PHENOMENAL! We had a full body wrap and massage at the spa which was lovely, and went on a spice tour and sunset dhow cruise organized through the hotel which were fabulous! The hotel also gifted us a private romantic dinner on the beach and the sunset dhow cruise as honeymoon gifts which was very generous. The beach is beautiful, and it is so nice to have the private cabanas as where the public portion of the beach starts can be a bit hectic and crowded. Highly recommend staying here!

Nice hotel with a good location on a large sand beach which is also quiet busy and lot of people coming to see you to sell you stuff as soon as you go towards the water.
The services are complete, the food was quite good.
Still expensive for what it is. For half the price of a classic room with garden we managed to stay in a villa with private pool sea view and very high standards.

Was expecting a nice experience based on the type of beachfront room we selected. Both of our butlers were extremely helpful including Salim helping me discourage my extremely stubborn gf (who can’t swim!) from taking a kayak out on a very windy and wave filled day. She was not listening to me at all - and his assistance was above and beyond.

Additionally, Anthony, the restaurant staff, facilities and especially the food was outstanding! Far exceeded our expectations. Having been in the sales and marketing business I have attended my share of buffet style meals. Every night GB treated us to something different and delicious. You won’t want/need to eat anywhere else!

Last add. I don’t drink alcohol but I’m a bit addicted to zero sugar Coca-Cola. I asked for the mini bar to stock them up a bit. Every day we were there included 3-4 extras. Never needed to ask again.

And try the hibiscus iced tea. Out of this world!

Gold är ett mycket fint och välskött hotell. Det är byggt 2013 men är fortfarande i mycket gott skick.¨
Trevlig vänlig personal och mycket bra fräsch mat i båda restaurangerna.

Allt är fem stjärnor; enda plumpen i protokollet är att gymmet saknar tre par hantlar; 3, 4 och 5 kg. Det är de mest användbara hantlarna för de flesta motionärer, de riktigt stora atleterna oräknade

Jag påtalade detta första dagen och tänkte att de skulle ordna det under vår sex dagars långa vistelse men så var inte fallet. Jag kan tycka att ett högklassigt hotell skall ta höjd för att saker försvinner och se till att ha reservutrustning

Stranden är fin, om du skall ta en långpromenad så gå till höger men se till att inte gå när det är högvatten för då kan du inte komma förbi Rio Hotell eftersom vattnet då täcker ca 200-300 meter av stranden. Väl förbi så kan du gå ända upp till Nungwi Beach. Vi promenerade ca 3 km norrut innan vi vände tillbaka. Promenera är skönt före 10 och efter 17, dess emellan; olidigt varmt, då är det skuggan som gäller.

Två saker som vi funderar över; varför städar inte lokalbefolkningen på stränder och längs vägar?
Vad gör alla unga massajer på stränderna, kan de inte ta ett vanligt arbete eller i brist på det, städa stränderna, jag skulle alla dagar i veckan hellre betala för det än att köpa diverse souvenirer?

Resort itself is excellent and clean within the compound. Buffet menu changes all the time and offers plenty of varieties with many cooking stations. Staff was very friendly and considerate, and managers came around and greeted us everyday. They noted from registration that my daughter's birthday was coming up so they decorated a special table with blue beads just for us. There were plenty of activities and nightly entertainment. Our suites were very spacious and layout showcases local architecture. Overall we are very happy with our experience.

The unit we booked was not available at check in, due to a plumbing issue--the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with the less expensive unit we received. Money was refunded to me. The best part of this resort experience was the service and genuine desire each staff member had to make us feel welcome.

The grounds are well kept and beautiful. We had a suite beach view with pavillon, which is a bit of a mis-conception because in front of your pavillon is an area of sand then the large swimming pool and then the beach and sea which you cannot actually see! The suite itself was lovely. All the staff were friendly and helpful. It was our 29th wedding celebration and unfortunately on the night my husband was ill and I had to go to dinner on my own. They had decorated the table and had a cake prepared for us. The following night there was a BBQ on the beach, all the tables set out with candlelight, very pretty. Food was plentiful but - I had a chicken kebab which was cooked on the outside and raw in the middle! I pointed this out to the waitress when she removed our plates but she did nothing. My husband spoke to the maitre de who was very concerned and also bought her manager over to speak to us. They spoke to the chef who had cooked the chicken and all were very apologetic. To make amends the following evening they provided us with the Romantic dinner on the beach which was really lovely. We had our celebration cake and about 6 members of staff sang to us. The main buffet restaurant had a good selection of food and a pasta station. At breakfast again there was a good selection of pastries, a fresh egg station, toast and cereals. The all inclusive package is very restrictive with spirits and only one choice of red,white or rose wine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gold Zanzibar. On entering the grand reception we were greeted by very welcoming staff and felt the stress of our 15 hour travel melt away. During our stay we dined on the finest cuisines like tasty curried crab and desserts that were great on the eye. During our stay staff were always helpful, friendly and genuinely very nice people. I'd like to mention some great personalities, Abu, Salim, Basho, Kombo and Masoud they really made our stay amazing. We visited in June 2023 and thoroughly recommend Goldie )as the locals call this great resort). The only negative for us was the evenings entertainment. It finished way too early for our liking however this is a minor detractor.

DEFINITELY NOT A 5 STAR RESORT, MORE LIKE A 2/3

This is NOT a 5 star hotel. I would rate it maybe 3 the most. The entire hotel is dated, the rooms are old and gross. There were ants crawling everywhere especially the bathroom. When I told staff they said that’s normal and nothing they can do about it. The shelf in the bathroom where all the toiletries are and glasses for brushing teeth was slanted towards the ground so everything kept falling on the dirty floor with the ants.

The staff barely speak English and are rude.

The worst part is that my husband and I both got diarrhea from dinner one night. The staff didn’t really care and said we’re probably allergic to something. The all inclusive food was not good and the package was very expensive. I suggest buying food and drinks a La carte because it’s probably going to be cheaper.

Don’t stay here unless you’re looking to rough it a little.

A magical and exceptional setting. I chose this place by worst chance to discover Zanzibar for the first time. I assure you that it fulfills all the promises: excellent resting place, delicious food, incredible staff, the best animations on the spot (no need to go out: everything is there to occupy). I really liked this place and all that is proposed by the hotel: animated evenings, music, dances, shows, friendliness, enthusiasm, welcome, in short, I highly recommend this place

Just a small drawback: the cleaning of the room must be done without waiting to be asked and also the shower back must be well maintained.

This hotel has a lot of regulars, I can see why because they are treated exceptionally well. Those that are first timers... buckle up, it’s a bumpy road. The rooms are old and filthy. My first room had mosquitos fly out of the refrigerator, my second room had stains all of the walls and spatter on the toilet. On the beach, staff moved my personal belongings while I took a swim because a regular guest wanted to sit there. I got to breakfast a little early and was told I had to wait 4 minutes for coffee because breakfast hadn’t started yet and the manager would be upset. The SPA is wonderful!!!!! Honestly the best part of my stay was my time getting exceptional service at their spa. I’d recommend the African potato massage and rejuvenating facial. The beach is nice, but be prepared to be hassled by people selling trinkets in the 15 steps to the water. Overall just disappointed with this “5 star” hotel and 2 star experience.

Dirty, poor service and not worth price

Welcome to the 2 star hotel with 5 star price.
It includes all you can drink instant coffee, a welcome foot massage to relive you from your long journey on day 5 and lobster and crab severed with rubber gloves. This place could not be more distant from a 5 star hotel.
The all inclusive menu is somewhat limited and anything worth drinking is excluded from the menu. The watery drinks are to be expected in an all inclusive but instant coffee at breakfast was really a push!

The systems at the hotel make you sign a nil bill everytime you order an all inclusive drink. We were asked constantly for our room number and fed paper after paper.

The bar advertises a zero plastic straw policy however drink after drink was severed with plastic staws.

I visited the spa on the 2nd day to unwind, and despite having no room for my welcome leg massage they managed to squeeze me in between their empty roister for a back neck and shoulder massage. I was patted like a cat and had a couple of creams rubbed in my back but nothing to remove the knots.

Food was amazing, always fresh and just delicious, plenty of choice as well. Rooms could be a little bit better, not really up there for 5 star resort, but still nice. Just looked like needs better maintenance. All together beautiful resort and would come back. Location is just amazing. The only thing that might need improvement is evening offer, like live music. It is always the same and a little bit sleepy to be honest. Make it a little bit more interesting.

Everything about this hotel was amazing except because we travelled with old people and although we requested rooms on the ground floor the walk to and from the beach and dining area is very steep. It would be nice if they introduced golf buggies like they do at other hotels to drive guests around the hotel premises.

If you are travelling in a group be sure to let hotel know in advance you would like rooms next to each other as we were put really far away from each other.

Hotel is amazing we were mis guided with the suits with Pavillion on the beach. Its not on the beach its overlooking the swimming pool. Only the villa are at the beach and can see the sea. The location is excellent clean beaches and clear blue water it's the best beach in Africa . Wide sand beach and blue waters and very private and good crowd. Not crowded beach and very relaxing
It's a beach resort and the open restaurant is very uncomfortable during summer and when we visited. Its get very humid and hot and unpleasant. And very limted ceiling fans. This restaurants needs big commercial fans in every corner. We were sweating while eating and wanting to rush out of the restaurant as it was just hot to eat and enjoy.
You need to get professional install mist sprays in the full perimeter where it's open and install commercial fans in all pillars so there is cool breeze throughout. Since it's open fully aircon won't work. I would never choose full board or half board if all meals will be served in the super hot restaurant. I'd rather go next door where they got aircon rooms and comfortable restaurants.
The TV system is extremely hard to use and we never got it right in our stay and got the guys to show us how it works but we gave up finally to call them again and never watched tv since then.
Last day our flight was was at 10 so checked out at 6am and we requested breakfast to be packed for us but no one did it and we wasted 15 mins for very cold and stale croissants

Amazing Hotel- Highly Recommended

My friends and I had an amazing stay at this hotel. Our room was beautiful, clean, big, and had all the amenities we needed. There was a little mix up in our reservation but the hotel was quick to rectify. The pool, and beach bar/ cabanas are well stocked, and comfortable. The sunset view from the area is also amazing. First night there was a party with entertainment which was fun. The next day was my birthday and at dinner the staff came out and sang me happy birthday and presented me with a cake which was very sweet. Breakfast/ dinner had a lot of variety and the food was good.
Wifi connection was good through out the hotel, and the gym was decent for a good day workout

Excellent location, Kendwa is an amazing beach. The staff is very kind, always smiling with a happy face. The hotel has a lot to improve in all aspects. If you're traveling with kids, Gold hotel is not the best place to stay. Only one baby chair in the hotel! Despite of the beautoful beach and swiming pool, theres nothing to entertain the kids. If rains, you have yo stay in the room. There's no indoor activity. I would reccomend it for couples and honeymooners.

We had a lovely holiday at Gold. The grounds and swimming pool are beautiful and staff all very helpful and friendly.
the rooms are large and very comfortable. The food (buffet) was wonderful with a great mix of seafood, however dining times could start a bit earlier then 8pm to accommodate families with younger kids. Otherwise, a wonderful stay!

Booked 5 nights -- left after one, it was that bad

1) don't be tricked into paying a premium for a Beach 'VIEW' Suite. Per the Property Map -- found in your room, AFTER check-in unfortunately -- 501 is only SUITE w/ some degree of beach view; others look onto the backside of the pavilion villas, restaurant or beach bar. Raised this with Managing Director & response was: beach \"view\" was just a 'word'. Unfortunately it was the 'word' we based our booking on.
2) rooms are disgusting - mold, hair, nail clippings, ant-ridden, dirty, grungy-yellow concrete boxes. See photos below. I know you don't spend your holiday in your room, but when paying a premium, at a minimum expect it to be clean.
3) Noise - construction noise all day on one side of property & bar noise (men fighting in wee hours of the night) on the other.
4) Food - quantity doesn't mean quality. Raw seafood and meat were already set out without ice 30mins before buffet opened. We ate only pasta after seeing this & noting other reviewers mention of food poisoning.
5) Service - or lack thereof; Manager not on-site until 8pm; staff can't be bothered or don't have authority to help;

Still awaiting a reply fr both hotel and Expedia regarding the Beach 'View' Suite that we paid for, but never received. Expedia promised update \"within 24hrs\"...7 days ago. Save yourself the grief and go up the coast to one of the Nungwi 5* resorts and don't book on here.

Great for a cut off weekend with greg beach.

The property is definitely a wonderful property with a lot of potential - the layout is great - love the pool and the beach was just wonderful - white sands and warm water. I thought that the service of the hotel staff was excellent. Food did not have a lot of variety and since its half or full board, you are stuck. I don't eat meat or chicken so it was quite a limited menu for me. The worst was the wifi. It nearly ever worked. Great place to stay fora few days totally disconnected - Important advice: if swimming at low tide in the ocean wear water slippers because there are lots more things that attack our feet and sharp edges. No warnings posted in Hotel.

Grounds are beautiful and they have great food. However, a place that charges 5 star prices (plus!) should not have peeling paint in the bathroom, very limited amounts of hot water (bathtub is useless), dirty curtains and pillows, and offer no little conveniences such as conditioner, mouthwash, etc. When we asked for a toothbrush, they told us to buy it at the shop across the road! They also do not go out of their way to help with extras such as late checkout...

the staff was extremely rude, made us feel uncomfortable as the guards stood directly in front of my wife staring at her all day, everyday. The staff came into our room when we checked in to take the additional bottle of water out of the room despite having paid over $300 a night. They let the beach boys come up and harass everyone, and even took the liberty to overcharge us an additional day.

Waiters look at you with tons of attitude and contempt. If you're on the beach, no one will come by to offer you anything to drink. In fact, it's not even really all inclusive despite advertising as such. There are hidden extra charge drinks you'll never know about not being included until you check out.

The place is also just generally not well kept compared to Hideaway. Empty bottles, brooms, buckets laying around feels more at home in a favela than a 5 star hotel. Gold is probably endowed with one of the better beaches of all Kendwa and Nungwi. It stretches along the entire width of the hotel property and doesn't lose it during high tide. But it's more than totally squandered with poorly managed relations with peddlers on the beach. They would come to about 5m from the deck chairs and all line up in front of you so that you have nowhere to look at when sitting down without making eye contact with one of them, at which point they will try to sell you the same thing every other peddler tries to sell you for the 10000th time. They're constantly drone and chat loudly and every 5 minutes will break from their conversation, holler at the guests to try to sell for the 10001st time. In the end, you're better off relaxing as far from the beach as possible to avoid the harassment or rest at the pool (defeating the whole point of going to a beach in the first place).

It was great, my only gripe was that the TV didn't work. It got really boaring at night as the hotel is not near any city. Again this is a great hotel if you are going with a loved one but not solo.

Nice hotel. Very good location. Very helpful staff. We stayed here with two children and we're pleased every day!
As for dinner we had all fantastic dinners during our staying. We booked half board package and as a result we were satisfied our decision. Every day we had different dinners with plenty of delicious dishes like lobsters, shrimps and so.
Rooms here are very big and comfortable.
Excellent beach!!!
We recommend this hotel for everyone!

Beautiful beach, lovely overall condition and cleanliness, very friendly staff and a lovely setting. Only slight downsides were it's quite far from the airport (75 mins drive) and the nightlife / night time activities were non-existent (other than the excellent buffet dinners). That didn't bother my wife, daughter (6) and I as we needed to recharge our batteries, but if you're looking for a fun packed night, perhaps another hotel would suit better. If it wasn't for that, i would have given the hotel a perfect score.

We Loved Everything!!! I stayed in Gold Zanzibar with my boyfriend for 4 days and I wish we would have stayed longer.. We didn't want to leave. This hotel is truly a gem. Firstly the location is outstanding, Kendwa beach is one of the most beautiful beach in Zanzibar. The hotel itself is a heaven for design minded travelers with true attention to every detail. The food can satisfy the most discerning guest!! absolutely delicious!! Our room was tastefully decorated , with soft cushions and the most comfy huge bed. The most amazing part though is the view which is breathtaking!! We most enjoyed sitting on our balcony enjoying the beautiful sea view and the ever changing color of the sky. The cleanliness of the room is impeccable. The friendliness of the staff and the exceptional service made our stay the most memorable! We did not got \"NO\" for an answer. We received everything we asked for and lots more! Gold Zanzibar is a place were you can only imagine in dreams and we definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to have a holiday of a lifetime.

Great place to relax

Booked for a weekend break (3 nights) and had a fantastically relaxing time. The location on the beach is excellent and the service is brilliant with the buffet style food available on half board varied and freshly cooked. All was very tasty. It was our son's birthday during the trip and he was presented with a cake on the day, surrounded by the staff who were all singing. It maybe a consideration to go all inclusive if you are going to drink a lot of wine as it seemed expensive to us. The accommodation was an excellent standard but our beach view villa was very open inside meaning with teenage kids we had to police the bathroom access carefully but this was our fault for picking such a room - maybe better if we'd left them behind! We will be back.

We were 3 generations together and all enjoyed it very much. I'd definately comeback to this one next time again for the following reasons. First, the food was a bit pricy yet worth paying for it. It was so good. Second, the room was naturally decorated yet luxurious, well maintained, well cleaned. Third, big swimming pool with sea water was definately the best. It even has zacuzzi inside. Forth, The Gold Zanzibar has the wide and clean beach area where it has very little tides so you can swim almost all day (northern coast is better than western coast we went last time) There are other things that made us happy, i.e. everyone welcomes all the time with big smile. we felt we were very welcomed there.

Great hotel set in incredible surroundings. Fantastic room with lots of space and real attention to detail. The canopy bed felt extremely luxurious and sleeping in it was a real treat. Great bathroom with separate bath and shower.
Food was fantastic.

I used the spa twice and it was heavenly. Staffed by Balinese massage therapists in a gorgeous location.

Pleased that the hotel wasn't exclusively full of honeymooners!

Horrible customer service.great beach

supposed to have a two bed all inclusive suite. arrived to a one bedroom suite and were required to pay $165/night extra to make it all inclusive. Attempted to argue or come to some sort of compromise but they were unresponsive and it proved useless. The room was very nice though, and the beach did live up to the hype. I plan on following up with Expedia regarding the price.

It was too far away from the airport, and main section of the island. The service was a bit off too. If you didn't eat during the exact two hours they wanted you to, you didn't get food. No room service. Overall, it was ok. The beach was fantastic. And it was very comfortable.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at Gold Zanzibar. Although the facilities are a 5 out of 5, I would rate this hotel as a 4 out of 5 overall as the food was good but not amazing. The pasta was fresh and delicious (obviously seeing as this hotel is mainly catering for Italian tourists) but I thought the seafood could have been a bit more interesting/tasty, although it was lovely and fresh. We had some weird squeaking noise in the wooden bed frame and had a look on the internet and think it was some kind of beetle inside the wood. That was pretty annoying. But besides that the room was huge, clean and comfortable. I think they could be a bit more accommodating in terms of providing more affordable services - an example of this is the hour transfer from the airport which is double what other taxis charge. So if you need a transfer from the airport call Kendwa Rocks hotel as they charge USD 50 one way whereas Gold charges USD 100 one way.

Beautiful rooms and great beach but...

The hotel is very nice and the rooms are really good. The beach is superb and more or less immune to the tide that affects most of Zanzibars beaches. The staff was very friendly but they didnt seem to have any mandate to take own decisions.

The food of the hotel is simply very poor. Its as if the chefs dont know how the food they are cooking should taste and good ingredients are wasted on poor handling, for a example a 0,5cm thick piece of beef shouldnt be barbecued for 8minutes...
During a lunch at the hotel the tuna sandwich wasn't served as presented in the menu when we complained the waiter read the menu and after a while came out with rock hard pieces of avocado as a replacement for the avocado cream that the menu had promised.

Lastly. When you pay around 300USD per night to stay at a place that isnt full there should ofcourse be possible to have a late checkout or to be allowed to take a shower in the spa before an evening flight. For this the hotel requested 60euros... not very customer friendly

Horrible Management, horrendous service

Beautiful property but ruined by horrible management, horrendous service and subpar food. I booked this after a fantastic stay at the Jafferji Hotel and Spa in Stonetown and was very disappointed. It is advertised as a 5 star property but the room was dirty (dead spiders and debris on the floors) and the air conditioning did not work at all (it is v. hot there). I had to complain 4 times to get them to move me to another room. The place is overrun with package tours from Italy so the food provided in the price is horrible. I am not a picky eater at all but couldn't even eat the dinner the first night. Just awful. The service is absolutely horrible; no one pays attention to you until you have to pay for a drink at the pool and then they hound you to pay up. The 2nd night I was there I told them my room number for my drink at dinner and assumed they added it to my bill. 4 hours later at 11pm someone came to knock at my door to ask that I sign the bill. I complained to the manager and he did absolutely nothing. It's really too bad because the beach and pool is beautiful but the management and service simply ruined my experience.

Great Location

Gold Zanzibar is located on the most beautiful beach in all of Zanzibar and arguably the prettiest beach that I have ever been to. The facilities are in great shape and they have a gorgeous pool as well as plenty of seating on the beach. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The only area of improvement is food. Some of the meals were significantly better than others.

The resort was clean and quiet. It is attached to white beach. The staffs were kind. It was really a good place for relaxing with two small kids. One thing I wanted to be fixed was no mosquito net for a single bed in triple room. There is a big and excellent insect net for king size bed, but not for single bed.
