staff were amazing, literally all of them. The building is being renovated by complete amateurs though and there were no notices when booking. Water issues, painting everywhere, shotty work even while spreading grout over tile with salt and mud on them just kept spreading the grout.

Hotel is dated left right and center so them doing the lobby is for astetics. Pool is outdated, woods moldy, carpets gross. Is what it is though.

This place shouldn’t be considered a resort and is extremely run down - the pictures are deceiving. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything your neighbors say and do. The staff was nice and upgraded our room but I called three times an hour before check in and no one answered and when we got to the hotel there were three workers chit chatting. 10 minutes after we checked in house keeping walked in on us which was very awkward. What was most disappointing was the pool and hot tub area. It was absolutely freezing and the pool wasn’t warm. The hot tub was lukewarm at best and the sauna was drafty. The pool bathrooms looked like they haven’t been touched in days with dried pee on the seats. You’re better off spending a little more money to stay at the deerhurst or staying at the home2suites in town.

My cozy room had a breathtaking view on the lake and the hills.

The whole hotel is neglected. It was dirty, and under staffed. It was New Years Eve and the hotel was sold out. We arrived early , check in was 4:00. They refused to check people in early but had nothing for the people to do while they waited. Didn't even offer snacks or alcohol for sale. Terribly unprepared.

Rooms were dirty. Housekeeping only came 2 out of 5 days due to staffing shortages. The pool was not heated as advertised. Some staff couldn’t have cared less when we brought concerns to them but for the most part, the staff were empathetic and understanding of our concerns. The biggest issue was the lack of consistent hot water. Shower couldn’t maintain hot water and sometimes had none at all. The sink hot water was also intermittent but to a lesser extent.

The restaurant staff were great. The food was average. Breakfast was a buffet which was okay the couple of days we opted for it.

We were told the hotel is under new ownership and short managers and staff which was evident when a staff member mopping the floor in the restaurant was asked to go to help strip beds, and when a housekeeping staff had to leave her room-cleaning post to go “work at the spa for an appointment”.

There is A LOT of potential for this hotel to be really amazing but we were extremely disappointed in our stay. We have requested a refund of the resort fees but have yet to hear back from the hotel.

Room was very clean, bed super comfortable. View of the lake and having a balcony to sit out on was beautiful! So really that’s all we needed for our little Muskoka getaway. Property is making progress to renovate common areas, reception was beautiful, the restaurant and bar was lovely, but some of the common areas were not just dated but grungy, wall paper in the halls peeling, washroom stalls in the pool area rusted, indoor pool area itself in need of repairs to clean it up, absolutely still usable though and we loved the sauna and jacuzzi hot tub! Staff were great as well. Our whole group raved about the spa services, spa was brand new and beautiful. Disappointed that the continental breakfast that was suppose to be on until 10am was completely closed and packed away at 945.. couldn’t even grab a muffin. So make sure you go early!

The free breakfast was not free--the chair in our room needed to go to a dump--the breakfast was less than adequate no butter for toast-- would have been nice to at least have some hard boiled eggs or guest operated waffle maker---spa services were unavailable--the floor was dirty in our room--no facecloth---sorry for the rant---i have never written a bad review for any place we have strayed---THIS IS A RESORT AND IS HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD

Needs an update and maintenance

When we arrived our first room had no heat. The maintenance man offered us a space heater. We said we would prefer to move. The young lady at the front desk was very kind and accommodating and moved us to another room. In that room. The heater worked but it was very very noisy. Kept us awake most of the night but we were awakened at 1:45 a.m. by the fire alarm. We had to get up, get dressed and go outside in the 4° weather and wait for the fire department. No explanation was given from the person on the front desk during the night. We walked past him on our way out of the front doors and he didn't even acknowledge us. Finally got back in and to bed. In the morning when we were checking out we asked at the front desk what the issue was. The girl shrugged and said Ishe thought it was a faulty alarm. What? We should get some sort of compensation for this. We were all awakened by a faulty alarm? Out in the cold for half an hour in the middle of the night? And no apology or anything from the resort. Very, very disappointed.

The staff were very helpful but you hear everything; slamming doors, normal hall and adjacent room conversations. Exterior door to guest room hall is not locked, leaving us with a justifiable feeling of insecurity.

Good point is EV charging is available, but could use two more units.

I just have to mention the lack of upkeep. I feel like this place could be amazing. I was only there for one night in October. Off time I'm aware. I've been to better upkept holiday inns. From the wobbly toilet, peeling caulking in the shower, rough paint job on the door. Little things that go a long way. The hallways felt like I was in the staff back corridors. Cold and unwelcoming. The floor around the indoor pool needs attention. As well as the concrete in the tennis/ basketball courts. When you think Muskoka lakeside resort that's not it. Makes me sad to see it falling apart. And then to charge a resort fee. At least at a Holiday Inn I'd get a Continental breakfast. I hate leaving negative reviews I only wish to see it doing better in the future.

We were very disappointed in the condition of the resort. It definitely needs a major refurbishment. The hallway ceiling tiles are a mess, the bathrooms had things on the wall that had been removed, and the old holes were never covered up. There were huge stains on the ceiling in our room.
That being said, the staff were great. The restaurant was severely unstaffed, but the staff they had were very pleasant and accommodating.
The pool and hot tub were warm and clean.
The property is showing its age outside as well, but it is a beautiful location.

It was bad experience, kids and adults , could not sleep due to your wedding events last night. Even after your last communication at 12:30am, there was so much noise until 3am. Due to which kids were sleepy in the morning and had to cancel today planned trip to Algonquin park. We planned this trip to enjoy activities in Algonquin only. But now it seems we need to visit again on some other weekend.

The reviews I read certainly did not do this place justice. The grounds, views, Checkin experience and services were great. Yes there is a flight of stairs to carry everything up but I planned for that and did an few easy trips. I don’t expect NY hotel luggage service in a country setting. I was appreciative of the ice machine and microwave access that was so useful. Heated up those leftovers beautifully. Birches is the restaurant and they were gracious and considerate and reasonably priced and well stocked with local craft beers. So far, definitely pleased with the experience and outcomes.

This building looks like no maintenance has been put into it since 2002. I do not think a single door opens or closes nicely. Either they slam shut in the halls or slamming on the door frame. Despite me telling the front staff that the bathroom door does not close they did not fix it. Another door was wedged so hard it was peeling the outer layer.

They offer $16 breakfast buffet but 10 minutes into town is the better option. With all the fees and extra charges it was not really \"resort\" worthy

The bar was infested with black flies in September which is never a good sign as most are dead outside. Additionally the tv could not change channel as \"this is the only working station \".

I am not sure what the $30 service charge included and it still has me wondering.

We stayed at Hidden Valley Resort on June 25–26 for one night in a standard room. The place was very clean and well-maintained. Throughout the day, we saw staff actively keeping the resort tidy, which was great to see.

The check-in experience, however, was a bit disappointing. The staff member who helped us was not welcoming and offered no guidance or explanation about the resort or surrounding area. That was the only downside.

On the positive side, everything else was fantastic. The resort had amazing family activities like pedal boating, kayaking, a beach for swimming, and lots of fun games. Parking was convenient, even for seniors—we were traveling with elders, and they found it very accessible.

We did not eat at the restaurant, but it looked clean and well-kept. Compared to bigger resorts, this one felt more peaceful and better managed overall.

Would definitely go back—next time for a longer stay, maybe even in winter to explore the town more and enjoy seasonal activities!

I have never written a review before but I felt this time I had to. The hotel was extremely loud until 3am. Mould all over the room, dirty bedsheets and towels. I’ve stayed in some hostiles cleaner than this. It’s extremely expensive for what you get. I can’t believe we paid as much as I did for what we got. I will never stay here again and hope people don’t make the same mistake I did and not read the reviews first.

Beautiful scenery, short drive to town, friendly staff, lots of fun activities for the family to enjoy including 2 pools, hot tub and private beach with the option of using water crafts or swimming. When I booked on Expedia the room communicated king bed & Lakeview. When I checked in I was told that was not on their records & we were given two Queen beds at the very end of hall & the lake view was hidden by condos. We saw a tiny bit of lake through trees. We received texts the morning we left to go to the property that said if we checked in early we would be charged $20 per hour early or late. The resort fee was $35 per day. We never used pool or anything…we will never go back. Disappointed ☹️☹️

Overall, we had a very positive experience with our stay. The beds were comfortable, and our room was clean. The resort is a little outdated. Nonetheless, the pools and beach were lovely. The atmosphere is very laid back, which we thoroughly enjoyed. In room microwaves and recycling bins would have been appreciated. Beautiful location, great daily activities, and excellent service.

I’ve been going to HV for a few years now w my kids and I see they’ve made some improvements.
Overall though, the service isn’t great at all.
I tried to call the hotel for weeks before our stay and nobody ever answered the phone or returned my call.
The front desk staff is sparse and they’re so so in terms of how they treat you. Very inconsistent.
The restaurant food is average but ok, again short of staff. The beach gear needs to be replaced very badly. They should buy new loungers and gear for the activities,
This all sounds negative but overall I still love HV and will continue the tradition with my kids!

The resort in older but well maintained and well kept, incredibly picturesque. The only negative might be the hill and stairs you need to navigate to get to the beach. Anyone with mobility issues would struggle. It didn't affect us but it might be a issue for some. All of that said, I realize that the resort can't really help it but maybe making it obvious to travelers would be helpful.

This property needs a facelift. Lobby, rooms, and the restaurant looks really outdated. The outdoor pool area has uneven walkways and the pool by itself was not clean at all. The whole property needs a total renovation. Tennis and basketball courts need to be resurfaced and fences around them needed to be repaired. Parking lots were very narrow and spots were limited. If this is how it looks in summer time with the lack of maintenance, I would question the safety of the ski lifts for winter activities.

There were hidden charges on arrival. The property maintenance was terrible, with the door to our room not shutting property, boards on the staircase to lake were dangerous, the tennis light looked suspicious and could fall over. Paying the extra cost for use of facility and the equipment was not worth the cost. So disappointing.

Pleasant but dated property in a nice location around Huntsville. The hotel probably looks a lot like it did in 1995. The staff is generally helpful, but the check-in and check-out were really, really slow, which is not what you want when you want to enjoy the property. Restaurant is good, but a limited menu, and all the dishes are fairly heavy.

My sister and I booked a two-day getaway at Hidden Valley Resort, arriving on Saturday, June 7th, and departing on Monday, June 9th. While the resort itself was pleasant and the staff we interacted with were friendly, our overall experience was marred by significant issues with customer service and restaurant accessibility.

Upon our arrival for the 4 PM check-in, we were looking forward to a relaxing stay. However, we encountered a major inconvenience on Sunday evening when we discovered that the hotel restaurant was closed due to a low number of guests. We were not informed of this closure in advance. Having already enjoyed some wine in our room, we were unable to drive to a local restaurant, and we had not packed any food, assuming the resort's restaurant would be available.

We expressed our concerns about this situation, as well as some issues with our room, to the receptionist, Lana, upon our departure. She assured us that the Customer Service Manager would contact us to discuss our concerns further. Unfortunately, we did not receive any follow-up communication. My sister sent an email on Wednesday, June 11th, but still received no response. I called the resort on Friday, June 13th, and spoke with another receptionist who promised that the Customer Service Manager would get back to us that same day. As of today, Monday, June 16th, we have yet to hear back.
