Unfortunately for everyone in the area, flooding was severe this fall. The hotel has a strong odor of mold, to which I am allergic. The manager only refunded half our reservation even though we only stayed long enough for them to try to “clean” the room by spraying glade air freshener. In the wake of such a terrible tragedy, I have empathy with how everyone must be affected. However, we missed getting to explore Bangkok, spent money to get there and away, and still had to find other accommodations. Overall, it cost us a couple hundred dollars and half a day of our trip. If you have asthma, or mold sensitivity, pick another place. We had luck by the airport.

Don't be discouraged by the kind of hidden entrance, this hotel was everything we wanted for our stay. The area is super walkable and in close proximity to several docks, shops, restaurants, and temples. The rooms are large, very clean, and had STUNNING views of Wat Arun and Wat Pho. The staff was very kind and accommodating- answering every question we had. All of this would have made for a lovely stay but the standout was the food. We had breakfast every morning here and at first we planned it just based on convenience but it quickly became some of the best food we ate while in Bangkok. The restaurant for dinner was also incredible, without a single bad dish, and the rooftop bar's drinks were delicious.

Would absolutely stay here again and recommend to anyone traveling to Bangkok (especially for dinner!!).

Would have loved a softer bag and if the balcony area could be finished. Would recommend others to stay here. Definitely try the rooftop bar and the breakfasts.

An unforgettable trip

A boutique hotel for a family trip. It was the second time my husband stayed there. We received a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival as returned guests; it was a nice gift. The entire hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was awesome and tasty. We had a 6am flight on departure day, and the restaurant prepared box breakfast for us to take, how considerate!! The hotel is comfortable and large enough for two people. Some facilities might not be as compatible with brand name hotels in downtown Bangkok, but the location is unbeatable. The hotel restaurant is at the waterfront overlooking the iconic Wat Arun temple, which is across the river. Wat Pho, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is across the street from the hotel, and the ferry terminal is 4 minutes’ walk. The ferry ride to the ICONSIAM Mall is amazing, quite an experience. I can’t say enough how joyful it is to stay in this hotel and in this area; you have to see it yourself.

Staff are excellent! So kind, helpful, friendly, flexible….they genuinely want you to be happy and satisfied. All staff are this way. They were so nice, I hated to ask them to do anything! I wanted to do things for them. The food for breakfast was absolutely delicious…aroi mak mak. So fresh and yummy with all the right Thai touches. Our only complaint was the door in the room that alternates between closing in the shower and closing in the toilet. It’s awkward, but we would stay here again in a heartbeat! We loved Sala. A tip: have dinner during sunset and watch them light up Wat Arun directly across the Chao Phraya River. It is stunning!

Stayed for two nights during the first part of our trip to Thailand. It was fine. The view from our room was incredible, Wat Arun was just across the river, and the room was decorated for a special occasion which we appreciated. But overall the stay was just fine. The room felt a little dirty and there was an old water bottle (not ours) under the sink. No elevator, but they do help with luggage. We were on the top floor and could hear the rooftop bar and the river cruises all night long. Down an alley that cars can’t make it down, which wasn’t terrible, just know in advance that Grabs will drop off/pick up on the corner. Alley was full of restaurant distribution products (?) and was also crowded/busy. Very convenient for Wat Pho and the Grand Palace.

I had both lunch and breakfast in the hotel. Both times they had dirty plates. Had to ask for replacements. This is a really busy area so the surrounding is pretty horrible. The hotel is in a really shady alley. Standard room is really small and I asked for a towel for use and they wouldn’t give me. Both shouldn’t be an issue at this price level. Service is good. Overall OK but disappointed.

The bad news is I arrived on a Thursday and the stoop was so high, I guess they only put out a latter step for the weekend. Also it’s in an alley way so if you catch a Grab, you have to go to the top of the street. Also, they were heckling me before the trip to pay, even though I did the pay at arrival option. I didn’t tell my bank about the trip so they were denying the request and it would’ve been really inconvenient if the money was taken out before the trip. However, the good news is, once I arrived they were super accommodating and took my payment like normal. Also the rooms were exceptionally clean and stocked. Everyone was so polite and willing to help and the breakfast blew me away. I was traveling solo but planned the day out of the hotel so the no elevator didn’t bother me but if you’re bigger, like me, and plan on going to your room often, the stairs might be much on a higher floor.

Only one person at the lobby during the day and 3 people at night?? The one person had to do everything and we had to wait because she was busy with another guest. The room was good but there was no full size mirror and the toilet room was a bit too small. People keep banging their doors all day and night because their were so hard to close or open. The rooftop bar was great but the quality of food was bad. The bed was comfortable. I love the couch in the room. It was so cozy too. They need to clean the stairs steps. It looked so dusty. Breakfast was ok. The waiters at breakfast were nice and friendly. I spent almost $300 a night. I kinda expected something a bit better but overall was good.

Excellent boutique hotel with industrial chic look.

Worth paying for the river view with great view of Wat Arun.

The hotel restaurant is excellent and breakfasts are a highlight - actually the food is excellent overall and I can recommend dinner here (will need reservation). The rooftop bar is really very good with decent range of cocktails and decent bar menu with wonderful views of the area. Both the restaurant and roof top bar are popular.

Room was large with kingsize bed. Shower was adequate with separate toilet and basin. No wardrobe - just hanger. Bluetooth speaker was good. Decent mini bar + Nespresso coffee maker. Room also has safe + kettle + hairdryer.

Would I stay again and recommend? Very much so.

Just be aware that there is no elevator at the property - its a walk up - however not an issue for us at all. Pity the rooms don't have a balcony, however the roof top makes up for it.

Have stayed in this area before and the area has certainly started down the road of gentrification with coffeeshops, juice bars, vegan restaurants (and of course Thai). The opening up of the Sanam Chai MRT has opened up easy access to what was an area that always felt strangely difficult to get to on public transport despite having 2 of the most popular tourist attractions in BKK!

You absolutely stay here for the view. The river views are just like they appear in the hotel photos. Wat Arun is beautifully lit at night, just like the photos. You are also walking distance from two major tourist attractions, The Grand Palace and Wat Pho.
Breakfast on the outdoor terrace alongside the river is also not to be missed.
The two problems I had during my stay were:
1. The hotel is not well known, and is at the end of a narrow alleyway, with non-prominent signage. The taxi driver had to ask directions several times along our trip.
2. There is no elevator, and the nicest rooms are on the fourth and fifth floors. This is also definitely not a wheelchair friendly hotel.

This property has amazing city views from the restaurant and riverside rooms. Comfortable bed to sleep in. The room is a nice size and has a radio and tv for entertainment. The blackout curtain was a nice feature for adjusting to the time change. Breakfast can be included with the room or purchased. Several restaurants are on site. A limited number of rooms suited for up to two guests.
Warning: No lift/elevator at this property. The step up into the hotel is higher than a standard stair. This hotel is not handicap accessible.

Stylish hotel with stunning views

Short version - our second stay at this property, and we will not hesitate to book here again for another trip to Bangkok ... Great location with a stunning view of Wat Arun - watching sunset from our room (or the rooftop bar) was the highlight of each day. The breakfast options - both Thai and Western - were all well prepared, but the blue crab omelet was a clear winner for us. Front desk were very helpful in providing advice on activities and timings, and all staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Wifi worked well throughout our stay and was quick to connect. The hotel was already in a great location, but now with a nearby metro/MTR stop the location is even better!

Brilliant location, stunning views, excellent breakfast, quirky layout and stylish intentions. Some furniture and decoration a little worn but comfortable bed and spotless bedlinen. Some noise from the rooftop bar and some front desk staff were friendly but lacking in professionalism - asked twice for a taxi to be booked for our return to the airport and were assured the booking had been made. Upon checkout, it became apparent that no taxi had been booked and so a different staff member had to hurriedly arrange a taxi for us. This took so long that she suggested hailing a taxi from the street. Fortunately the missing taxi appeared in time but this was unnecessary stress we didn't want!
Despite that, we so enjoyed the location that we would stay there again.

The hotel is very close to the major temples, a short walk to the river to catch a boat to any part of Bangkok, and is very close to many restaurants. It is a little difficult to find since it is tucked away in a road filled with restaurants and stores. Just go down the road and you will see the sign on the left hand side. The hotel is directly on the river, which causes the hotel to smell. Free oil with a candle is provided to cover the smell. The room was very nice and clean. The hotel is very unique, has a nice restaurant on the river, and a very nice bar on the roof. The staff was very helpful, spoke perfect english, provided instructions or directions, and scheduled taxis when needed. The hotel is directly across from the reclining Buddha. The view from the room was breathtakingly beautiful to see Wat Arun. Wat Arun with all the light at night is very beautiful.

Totally amazing staff. The best service I've ever experienced in a hotel. He happened to mention to each other that we had sensed a weird smell in our room. However it didn't bother us. The staff heard this and upgraded us immediately to another room. When we wanted to take a long-boat tour on the Kolong River the staff called the company and organized so that we got our personal boat AND they accompanied us to the docks and didnt leave until the boat had taken off. AMAZING!
The food in their restaurant was very good and the view was exceptional!

👌 priceless stay

Sala Rattanakosin is the perfect location to take in all Bangkok’s Old City has to offer. From its pricessless riverfront location to its (beyond) incredible breakfast spreads, I’m definitely looking forward to my next stay and am definitely turned on to the Sala family of properties.

One note - be advised of the tours + do your homework. Booked a tour from the front desk (trusting the staffer’s pick without my own research) and it turned out to me a whole mess. Ended up wasting half a day and a lot more money than discussed with hotel staffer. Definitely not on the staffer, but on the person they booked. Would have expected differently for the credibility the Sala offers.

The room was small with a funky layout (shower in one corner, toilet in another corner and sink in a third corner). We wanted to go to a night market and they put us in a taxi to one that was closed (We wasted money on 2 taxis). We told them and they said, “oh, sorry.” They tried to put us in a taxi to the airport for 600 bhat, but we grabbed her own for 400 bhat. The view and rooms can be nice, but we did not get one. The breakfast was delicious.

Love this place.

Stayed here before and just as great this time. Approach to the front door is through a number of warehouses and a couple of cafes but do not be put off. Staff are great, food is great too but the best of all is the roof terrace which opens at 1700 (5pm). When the sun goes down, the lights come up and there is a 360 degree view of the temples and river. Combined with lovely food and wonderful cocktails (not the cheapest but you pay for what you get) and you have a perfect evening. Been here before, will be back again.

This hotel offers an amazing view of the Wat Arun. Whether sunrise or sunset, I appreciate the amazing river view. The room was clean, AC was great and bed linens was comfortable.

Upon checking out, I was told that a bottle of orange soda was missing from the mini-bar. I don’t like sugary drinks, hence I only drink water on a regular basis. While I didn’t mind to pay 100baht for the bottle soda that I didn’t drink, i did not appreciate the level of customer service I received from the front desk.

They told me that their staff would never mis-count; they could show photo of the mini-bar as proof. I felt as a customer, I should not be subjected to this level of back and forth over a bottle of soda, not to mention making me feel that I was trying to lie.

At the end of the day, I think the hotel’s goal should be providing excellent customer service. Even if they have to take a loss of one bottle of soda, that should be well worth it. That would make the customer feel honored.

When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told the manager was resigned 2 days ago and there was no-one I could talk to. What an answer! Obviously, I paid and left.

Front desk staff are definitely in need of some additional training.

Perfect for a Romantic Getaway

There are two primary reasons why someone should choose to stay at this hotel. First, it's location is literally within 100 meters of Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. I'm not sure there are any other hotels that close which match the quality of Sala Rattanakosin. You'll be able to visit many of the major tourist spots easily from this hotel, often without having to use a taxi/tuk tuk and getting stuck in traffic. If you are wanting to travel somewhere else, there won't be any problems finding transportation. Secondly, depending on which room you book (not all rooms face the same way), you will have a spectacular view of Wat Arun and the river.

The hotel can be a little difficult to find as it is at the end of a crowded and busy alley and there are not many large signs pointing out it's location. But once you're in the hotel, you don't really hear any noise from outside. The hotel is located in an old warehouse style building and they intentionally left some of the walls and concrete exposed for an artistic feel. Breakfast was outstanding, and I appreciated that it was menu based instead of a buffet. My room was large and extremely comfortable. The shower was great for me as a tall individual as well. AC and wifi worked as expected. TV channels were a bit limited, but who's staying here just to watch TV? Depending on what I'm in Bangkok for in the future, I will stay here again if it matches my needs. Oh, and the rooftop bar had a good selection of beers.

This hotel has an excellent location within 5 mins walk of Temple of Reclining Buddha, 10 mins to Grand Palace and with stunning view across the river to Wat Arun. The entrance is down a narrow lane between loading bays for vans and does not appear promising but once inside the hotel is extremely comfortable with excellent rooms and dining facilities. Best of all however are the staff who are probably the friendliest and most helpful we have ever met. (particularly the ladies on reception). Highly recommended.

Once you are inside this property it is nice, although no elevator and the entrance is in a VERY smelly ally across from a loading dock, hard to find.
The restaurant is great and the views from the rooms and the restaurant are excellent. The rooms are a bit spartan, for exmpl, no closet. Nice comfy bed though. And it is within a stone's throw of all the major temples.

The views from this property are unbeatable. Absolutely gorgeous, especially from the roof top bar. The included breakfast was very yummy, and staff was wonderful! However, the smell of sewage was absolutely awful. We could smell it in our room day and night to the point of nausea. Also, the hotel was fairly run down and a bit dirty. I think they do a nice job trying to make it cozy with nightly turn down service complete with tea, but there's no way this property is 4 stars and it's definitely not worth the price per night. Also, the area around the hotel completely shuts down after 8 pm. My husband and I were on our honeymoon trip. We didn't want to party by any means, but we couldn't even find somewhere to have a reasonably priced beer in the evening.

This property has an amazing view, if you have a room facing Wat Arun. If not, you can enjoy the view from the restaurant or rooftop bar. We loved the design of the rooms, but a renovation should be on the to-do list. Our room had some noticeable wear and there was a distinct muskiness in the halls.

The location is great if you just want to visit temples, see the flower market, see the old part of town, but because of the tourist spots surrounding the property, it's hard to get to other parts of the city. You will be waiting for a long time just to get a cab that will put the metre on.

If you want to relax at the hotel after a day of sightseeing, the property does not have amenities and the restaurant is often closed because of tour groups that have it booked out. I would recommend staying at the hotel for two nights max.

The view from the room is amazing and you can't beat this but other than that everything there is equal to 3 stars hotel. The room is not maintained well. A lot of scratch on the wall, floor and room furniture. I understand it is the hotel design to integrate an old building vibe into the hotel, which is a great idea btw, so you can still see original building beam and loft style wall. But with this kind of design, you need too keep the actual hotel condition PERFECT so it won't look OLD as the building. Our room toilet door is peeling off and debris of MDF is scatter everywhere. The table and wood furniture there is in dark color so you can see that every corner got the ugly scratch. It is not build-in furniture so it can be easily replace which make me feel that the hotel is not under a good maintanance.

Overall, you can't find a better view of Wat Arun like this but I would suggest you spend your money elsewhere. This is 5 stars hotel price with 3 stars hotel quality.

They have a fantastic roof deck overlooking the Chao Phraya river and the Wat Arun temple. Absolutely stunning at night, especially at sunset. At breakfast, a water level deck with an equally interesting view.

Breakfast was excellen and a wonderful selection of very different meals from eggs Benedict to. full English breakfast to the messy breakfast. It’s all good.

Dinner was pretty good too. A mixture of Asian fusion, Thai, and Western flavors.

I went for the room upgrade with a view. It was worth it. We did not face Wat Arun but the opposite is very interesting too as it faces another wonderful Buddhist Temple, Wat Pho.

We left the property 10 minutes after arriving and went to another hotel. We didn't even tried to get a refund.
The location is good the hotel maybe 2 stars without elevator. The problem was the smell in the room. We just couldn't stay in the room.
For simillier price you can get great hotels in Bangkok.

Not only was the property lovely but the staff were wonderfully accommodating and anticipated our every need, even ones we didn’t know about. They offer turn down service and provide a unique tea every evening for your enjoyment. Breakfast is fantastic and included in your stay. We plan to stay here every time we come to Bangkok. Do not waste your time with other hotels in the area.

No water supply. After my drink @ the roof top, went back to room and discovered there is no water supply , can’t shower. From 10.30pm - till close to 12 mid night. The service ‘recovery’ is bad. No one follow up and update us the status of the matter, left us dirty siting & waiting. After I told them I’m moving to another hotel and they will foot my bill. They came to the room , told me water should be okay. I broke a glass in the night, in the morning went to pay. I was told since the inconvenience of the water supply they don’t need me to pay for the glass. What a bargain ! The room is badly lighted, 2 lights not working. The location is bad, nest among the warehouses for goods despatch. Even coming during the night after 7pm my driver can’t ever drop me near the front door. It’s blocked by lots of motor vehicles in the narrow alley. I was dropped about 3 shops away. Have to drag my luaggages to the hotel then the high steps/ curb to reach the front door.

Excellent location. Walking distance to Wat Pho and Grand palace. I cannot day enough about how kind and helpful the staff are at this hotel. From the moment we walked in to the moment we checked out, they were always going the extra mile. They offered to call a taxi for us on our last day and packed us “To Go” breakfasts bc our flight was so early. Also, our room was immaculately clean and the cleaning lady would leave us a different sample tea every evening for us to try. We would highly recommend this hotel!

Friendly & kind personnel, good breakfast

The staff especially the front desk officer Gaem was very kind, very helpful and very accomodating. The breakfast has varied choices and was very good. The hallway on the 4th floor however, was very stinky as well as our room at the 4th floor. The hotel was fully booked so we were not able to change rooms.

A hidden gem

I was apprehensive when the taxi driver said he could not stop by the hotel, but afterwards realised that it is because it is at the back of a tiny lane. As such, you would almost miss it but don’t! The location and view are both fantastic. As well as this, all the staff at the hotel are an absolute credit to the Sala group in their kindness and attentiveness. We arrived in what felt like a monsoon shower and they brought umbrellas down to the car and gave us towels to dry off as we checked in. When we had an early start for a trip, they made up a few snacks, without us asking, as we would be too early for breakfast. The room itself was spacious, modern and comfortable and had the most wonderful view of Wat Arun. The same view could be experienced during breakfast and dinner if you chose to dine with them and if you went to the rooftop bar for drinks. The location was also perfect for visiting the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. If we returned to Bangkok, we’d happily stay there again.

Good for couples with some activities

The sala rattanakosin, is a unique boutique hotel in an up and coming area of Thailand. Not a lot of bars or restaurants, but lots of tourist activities around. There are temples across the street and across the water.

The condition of the hotel was a bit shaby, but I guess that is sort of the character of the area. I wouldn't of had a problem with it, if we didn't get a room (initially) with paint pealing off the walls. I also felt that the design of the rooms could be better. For example, I'm not sure if you can qualify it as a balcony, but they had a door that gave you access to what seem to be a balcony with no walls. Making it a bit dangerous, especially if there is a family using the room. The bathroom doesn't have a lock, which I would have, but thats just my preference. Also, since I was moved to a different room I've noticed different stereos. One that was relevant, which had an iphone doc, the other with a cd player???

Anyways, it was actually a very pleasant stay, however I would hope some changes would be made.
