Quartier animé le jour grâce au marché local que nous avons adoré et où nous avons excellemment bien mangé en compagnie des Thaï. Amazing location right in the local market — full of life and great energy.
The ferry is less than a 10-minute walk, which made exploring very easy.
The staff were helpful, and even though the room decor is a bit dated, it was clean and comfortable. A memorable highlight was seeing local kindergarten kids using the hotel pool (kid’s pool) with their teachers ( morning period) — it added such a sweet and joyful touch. A solid stay with an authentic local vibe.

The hallways are tiled with concrete walls, the staff use walkie talkies set to very loud and them seem to talk a lot, so you are woken early and the noise levels are high the whole day.
The pool looks great in photos but is only knee deep for around half of it, so not ideal for swimming laps.
There’s only one decent restaurant in the area, and getting out of the area is difficult and takes about an hour to get to central Bangkok for shopping or restaurants. It is prone to flooding as well, each morning the nearby market would be slightly flooded as the tide was in. This was also the route to the nearby ferry. The ferry was convenient and really the only way to get out of the area without sitting in traffic for ages.
The bed was however comfortable and the location next to the river was nice, but it didn’t make up for the constant noise of staff talking on walkie talkies at all hours or the fact there were no decent restaurants anywhere close. It was not that cheap either when you take the above into account. I’d pay more and stay elsewhere if I visited Bangkok again.

The room was old, with mosquito screens coming off the rails and blinds bent and not closing properly. Despite AC and keeping everything shut, there was constant humidity inside the room.
I tried for 3 days to organize transport from the airport by sending multiple emails both directly and through the booking platform and got a reply only when I was already at the airport (landed) so organized transport there myself.
I tried to get laundry done the morning of the day before my departure and selected “express service” (which had a 4h turnaround time). Instead of clean clothes, I found a note from the front desk saying that since there was “heavy rain” (it didn’t rain at all!) my laundry couldn’t be done by the next day (24h - not 4h - later…).
The room was not cleaned the day before my departure, bathroom amenities were not refilled and the towels were thrown on the bed instead of placed in the bathroom.
I also inquired about a temple visit and they tried to sell me extra touristy stuff I never asked for.
Overall I would give the property 3* max in terms of condition and less in terms of service… only “plus” was that the area was calmer than most of the city and easily accessible via river ferry.

Terrific hotel residence with interesting history.

We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood along the river with a temple next door. Walking distance to Wat Arun. Conveniently located between 2 piers for quick transport to main sites. Breakfast was delicious! The restaurant faces the river and the food is yummy. The room was a good size. The pool is nice but there were problems with the little moat surrounding the pool which involved 2 days of a crew cleaning it. I'm sure this was a temporary issue. The Wang Lang market is around the corner which is filled with food/clothing vendors.

The reception has no aircon, in warm days it can be unbearable for foreigners.
The hotel does not have any iron, after many hours flying, the clothes need to be ironed. We were asked to bring the clothes to a laundry at the reception. We had a used coffee glass in the room for days that we left in the sink but no one picked it up. The cleaning was poor, during the whole stay we had toothpaste spots in the sink that were not removed or cleaned. The soap run out after the third day, we had to use hand soap for showering. The staff is not good at English, luckily my wife is Thai.

This hotel is so nice and definitely a hidden gem. Wonderful facilities, the best buffet breakfast, and beautiful views from the restaurant. It's a very quiet area and staff are very friendly and helpful. We arrived late at night with a taxi, and didn't have enough cash on us to pay the driver, but the young man working at the reception helped us out but walking us to the nearest ATM. Would definitely recommend, it's very close to the ferry warf as well.

This was our first time to Bangkok. I liked how the hotel was located so close to the river and boat transport. We could see and access the temples, while staying in a quiet and relaxing location. The room surely shows River, but it looks 5th floor offers far better view.
Probably I should have paid more for a room.

Staff are all polite. Breakfast was delicious and had wide variety.

I will, however, try to find a better River-view hotel next time, although this hotel itself is worth revisiting.

The only mirror was-above the sink and lighting was very dim and impossible to use for close viewing. Bathroom could use more towel hooks.

Beautifully designed and built hotel from internal hardens and pool to hallways, signage, costume displays and rooms. Very clean room with lots of unobtrusive storage, small kitchenette and comfortable bed. Balcony door could provide a better seal against outside noise. AC was slightly noisy at times.

Restaurant staff seemed dedicated to the guest experience especially Be, restaurant manager who attended to a severe allergy condition without hesitation. Included breakfast offered a wide assortment of foods both Thai, Asian and Western. Wish we could have stayed longer. River transportation very close and makes getting to sites easy. Market nearby. Can imagine a prolonged stay here. One small annoyance was having to frequently re log onto the wifi.

A little bit of a hidden gem in agreat location, close to Wat Arun (1 mile ) and across the river from the grand palace. You can take a ferry to both of those. Dining options are ok in the next door market. Clean and nice rooms, quiet too except when the school is in session. The noise did not bother us, I think noise and Asia go together. The pool area is lovely and shaded.

This was truly a wonderful hotel and the room was well sound-proofed - the only negative was there were several schools in the area and they used loudspeakers so it was quite noisy outside the room itself. Breakfast was amazing from the \"egg station\" to the fresh fruit, granola, plenty of hot dishes and some salads. Of course there is a lot of meat being Thailand! The pool was lovely, and the grounds were serene, and we thoroughly recommend a stay here. The ferry was easy to catch to cross the river, currently for 4.5 baht a crossing, when we visited the Grand Palace. This is a great location to be in.

Theatre residence is next to the river and Pranock pier so easy to get around using the boats. On the first day we spent a lot of time just using the hop on and hop off. If we were more in the centre we would have been less likely to use them. Also Wang Lang market is so near and the food is so good. Lovely hotel with a lovely breakfast. Staff were also so friendly.

This is THE place to stay in Bangkok

This is a fantastic place to stay. Itravel frequently but rarely leave reviews, but I can't pass up the opportunity to recommend this hotel. It is in a fantastic location that is close to all the major sites of Bangkok but off the beaten track. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and the staff is extremely helpful. The restaurant is right on the river and a great place to start and end your busy days seeing Bangkok. The owners are clearly very thoughtful about giving back to the local community, which also feels great as a guest. This is THE place to stay in Bangkok.

Shameful treatment of the chronically ill

I booked this hotel for five nights as I was in BKK for medical treatment. When I arrived, I noticed that the room smelled moldy, and the AC was very old. As someone with chronic illness, and a high sensitivity to mold, I could not stay in the room. I went straight back to the front desk and explained my situation, and they said no problem smiled and waved me off. A few days later, I noticed they charged me $518usd for the 5 nights. I called the hotel and for 3 days they insisted that hotels.com was responsible for the refund, Hotels.com said the general manager of the hotel was the only one who could release the funds. A former member of the Thai tourist police called the hotel every day for six days, until finally, the general manager would speak to him. The GM refused to refund any of the money stating “policy”. Any policy that would force someone to stay in a room that would make them physically ill, otherwise take their money, is ablest. I have been living in Asia and traveling to Thailand for 12 years and have never experienced anything so disgraceful. The Hotel clearly knew the situation and were very comfortable to take a lot of money from a sick person. 5 minutes at this hotel cost me $518. Not the way Thailand should be welcoming back tourists.

The property is next to a school which is very loud during the weekdays. Try to ask for a room on another side. Otherwise we had a great stay. The hotel room was very clean and nice. The restaurant view was my favourite part about the property- you can watch the boats on the river. Staff was very helpful and curious. Golf drove me to an atm machine when I needed money which was very nice. I thought I’d had lost a bag after I’d left the hotel and the reception was very helpful in helping me try to locate it through the taxi (turns out I hadn’t lost the bag, just didn’t realize I had it with me).

There is a school that shares the hotel property, and it can be very noisy during the day even with windows shut.
There is no shuttle bus o the hotel and we had to use a cab to get around. Or walk to the nearest pier to take a boat.
We chose this place thinking is peaceful but the day noise from the school beside it is just too much.

Nice hotel. It has an open air lobby which flows to the pool area in the middle. You are next to schools and the only access is a narrow road in and out. There are some street vendors that open up later in the day. This does make it difficult if you are trying to enter or exit by vehicle when several people are walking through the street. The hotel has a cafe & restaurant across the street from the lobby. The restaurant has a great water & city view, especially at night. We had evening drinks there. This is also the same location for the hotel breakfast. The hotel is located a short walk from the ferry which takes you across to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha & The Grand Palace. This make is fairly easy to visit those sites as well as Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha). We had a pleasant stay & I would recommend if looking for a hotel in this area. This seemed to be a less busy area of Bangkok in the evenings, which was nice.

Welcome pristine new hotel in a busy city. Located next to the river and easy to get to main attractions like Wat Po/Wat Arun/Grand palace. Many are just a quick (and cheap) 5min ferry across the river.

Breakfast in a nice contemporary cafe across the main entrance and overlooking the river. Maybe could do with more vegetarian (non-egg) hot food options for breakfast/room service.

Pool was lovely and bigger than it seems on pictures and most helpfully open til 10pm. Staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is located very close to Wat Rakhang down a nice quiet local road on one side. The other side takes you through a fully authentic local everyday market. Can be great for some but also can be a little too much with lots of strongs aromas.

It is located in a super local area. Wang Lat market is where locals shop so if you want to experience a true old Bangkok local life, this is a good place to stay. Otherwise, a bit too far from other touristy locations. Clean room and comfy bed. Has a small kitchen so you can fix yourself something simple to eat at night. One encounter with a male staff was not pleasant though.. We asked for a good restaurant and for whatever reason he sounded very irritated and didn't really suggest any place other than to go visit the hotel's restaurant.

The staff and service was just superb. Thanks for being so welcoming . Location was great specially if you are travelling with family and want to visit the grand palace and Wat Pho as it is only 8 minutes away crossing the river. There is a market right next to the hotel which it is full of life during the day and very quiet at night . This was also very convenient for us . Our room was really big, neat and clean. There is also a pool which it is a great refreshing addition when you are back from sightseeing!

Great hotel in an area a little difficult to access but for those with patience worth the trouble.
Didn't use the pool in the mornings as is usually my habit due to the school swimming lessons being conducted there.There was no mention of that on the website. Wifi didn't work in the rooms so had to go to the reception area.

Near to Fabulous Wang Lang Market!

Theatre Residence is quite new, comfortable and its proximity to Wang Lang Market is a bonus for us. The hotel's breakfast is basic - toast, two types of cereal, some roasted pumpkin, onions and carrots, one soup, one carbo dish, sausages, potatoes, tomatoes, coffee and tea as well as local sweetened beverages such as chrysanthemum tea. ginger tea, lemongrass tea and bael tea.

But, if you bother to walk to Wang Lang every morning, you will be rewarded with really great local breakfast fare such as duck noodles (try every duck dish there!!), pork noodle soup (MUST EAT), rice dishes, breads, desserts and more. The hotel is near Prannok Pier: you can take that to Tha Chang Pier and change to take the express ferry to Saphan Taksin BTS in Silom and go around Central Bangkok from there. Or take it across to Tha Maharaj (where it's completely touristy and different from Wang Lang Market but the amulet market is there). We took a Grab to everywhere else - it was convenient. Get help from Front Desk if Grab driver needs direction. If you walk down towards the main street where the hospital is, you will come across an kind uncle who will do your laundry for 70 baht per kilo along the way - look out for the row of washing machines. DIY wash is 30 baht per wash (coin operated).

The satellite TV reception isn't great and there are very few international channels. Other than that, we greatly enjoyed our stay and looked forward to coming back daily for some peace and quiet.

New hotel and comfy stay but lacks convenience.

It is very new and clean hotel. Kind of character and style itself. But the location is a bit far from other places. The street to the hotel is rather narrow. The swimming pool is smaller than it looks in the photo.

Lovely hotel close to wanglang market.

I chose Theatre residence mainly due to its proximity to Siriraj hospital as I had to attend a course there , however was pleasantly surprised to see the rooms were well designed,clean, comfortable with a small kitchen. Everything you need was provided for.
Right from check in to check out was happy with the way the staff handled all the formalities. A special mention to Mr Phat for going out of his way to help right from booking taxis to guiding about sightseeing. All the staff is courteous and helpful.
An eclectic hotel with a good blend of old and new design. Good place to stay.

Great hotel in non tourist area

The hotel is great, clean, modern and the staff are excellent.
The location is not in the busy tourist areas, there is a pier nearby that will take you across river and down river, it is very cheap.

Awkward location by road transport

Most of the attractions are the other side of river. We enjoyed using cheap ferries & express boats to get to visitor attractions and restaurants. More information about these would be useful. Walking from hotel involves going along dark alleys with motorised transport. Would not suit everyone, but we never felt threatened. Might not be good for kids. There is no bar at hotel, but there are others nearby. Nobody seems to use hotel restaurant except for breakfast (which was quite nice).

Can't imagine any better!

AAA++ I can't imagine staying anywhere else in the area. Beautiful, peaceful green space around the pool and restaurant area. Perfect service from the kind staff. Right next to a great street market, and 5 minutes to the ferries for all of the areas magnificent sights.
