Staff did not answer the phone when called several times.
Bottom sheet was too small, no coffee cups with the hot pot, no soap for sink, no wash cloths or hand towels, bugs that appeared to be cockroaches in the room and dining area. Room had water damaged walls and ceiling, shower curtain did fit tub.

The staff is great very polite and helpful but the room is not as nice, the wall paper were about to fall off next to the window, the air circulation is not great, there is no outside air circulation in the room, I have to open the window to get some air circulation. The air filter has not been cleaned, it's a metal air filter( dusty). There is a damp moisture smell in the room, it was not pleasant smell in the room. The main elevator is not working, I have to use service elevator. The food is good even though it's a same for me every morning.

Have been coming here for 30 year and sadly watched it deteriorate. Now a shabby and well worn hotel. Double room with tatty furniture and one stool for seating and plain wooden flooring. We won't be coming back.

Do NOT stay here (Feb 2025), read all the recent reviews there are known issues and problems. Find a different place to stay.
Do you want to wake up with a bedbug crawling on your bed? I didn't think so.
There are also cockroaches, baby ones.
I had to be changed room twice, for a three night stay. So disgusted I had to leave after the second night and get another hotel, so double the cost for that night.
I only stayed here because of friends staying here and planned a tour, so it seemed convenient.

-Local people recommend it, probably because of the hotel's former glory, it has marble floors after all...
Advertises as 4 star hotel, should be 0 star.

CONS:
-Very busy, loud street, with lots of vagrant people right outside, it smells of urine and if you want ot go anywhere walking, you will have to zig zag around them. There are free meals for them close to the side of the property.
-No restaurants or attractions within walking distance without walking through dark, smelly sidewalks.
-Hotel was build in the 1940s, seems very little work since then.
-Check in: short tempered receptionist saying loudly \"sign here\", without giving you time to read.
-Massive cell phone tower next to hotel (south).
-Lots of moskitoes inside the hotel, and in the rooms.
-Only one card key per room, two people? you will have to synchronize your timings.

-Rooms dated. Minor renovations.
-Mold, cockroaches, bedbugs, moskitoes.
-Bathroom disgususting
-Carpets filthy.

GOOD:
Hot water, water pressure.

There were multiple items that insured we will never return.
The first item was our treatment be the desk staff. NEVER have I been treated so poorly by the desk staff. I had multiple contacts with the staff that were, (RUDE). MY questions were repeatedly, either ignored of rebuffed. Something as simple as a request for my bill, (I was told I could not get it until the last day at checkout) was almost impossible to get.
The facilities were in poor shape. From leaking pipes to dirty rooms. This should be unacceptable at any hotel.
There are more items, but suffice to say, “don’t spend your money and stay here”.

Long walk to the Grand Palace

The hotel itself is great. It's close to Khao San rd. But it's about a 20 min walk to The Grand Palace and the other surrounding tourist locations. So if you don't mind walking or taking a tuk tuk every time, I'd recommend this location. There are unhoused people around the area but they never bothered me.

Giving the approximate to the major attractions, time of the year and low price, there must be a drawback. Indeed, the state of the hotel, the surroundings and especially the front desk staff are the issue. Most unfriendly and careless staff.

The hotel is walking distance to khaosan road, markets, plenty of places to eat and shop, and the grand palace. Homeless people around the hotel but they don’t bother you. Hotel interior seems a little outdated, and the rooms were basic as expected but decent enough for a cheap stay. However the “beds” felt worse than a park bench, it literally hurt my body to move on it during the night and made my body sore. The hotel isn’t terrible but if I would’ve known that, I might’ve reconsidered.

Best hotel in Bangkok. Easily a 10/10. Great service, food, pool, and rooms. My room even had a relaxing tub which I really like. For only around 900 baht per night, you can't beat it. We were steps away from The Queen's birthday celebration party, so it was very nice to be close for once to all the action in Bangkok. Also, Khao San Road is 5 minutes walk, so there's your nightlife option. I felt very at ease and relaxed at this hotel, so I had to book for a second night to enjoy it further. So this is the second part of my booking, as I rebooked another night. Also, to help me do so, the Front Desk staff was very helpful.

The price and location couldn't be better. Walking distance to everything in Bangkok, and taxis abound out front for anything further.

Morning breakfast is awesome. Pool is nice.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Shops inside hotel, and good amenities all around.

It's obvious this hotel has seen better days, and is showing some signs of wear and tear.

Directly outside is a mass of homeless people who use the exterior wall of the hotel as a urinal at all hours of the day. They aren't violent, scary or threatening, however. And probably little the hotel can do about it.

We were a bit nervous about staying here after reading some of the reviews, however we had a pleasant stay. The room was pretty clean and comfortable, housekeeping came every day and the pool was a good addition. It is dated and not luxury but for the price we paid we were happy to stay there and the location is excellent (5 mins walk from khaosan area and easy walk to the Grand Palace).

Roaches heaven. Told the staffs to spray the room but unsuccessful .
Homeless all around the property.
Front desk totally useless.
Breakfast is fair but coffee was undrinkable. Hospitality at breakfast is terrible. We step in one minute late and got turn away. Breakfast ends at 9:30 am instread of 10 am like most hotel and the woman at the host desk for breakfast act bery rude.
I must say the cleaning crew is very good. They work hard.

This hotel need somebody to manage. It is ashamed that it is a such historic place in the past.
If it is not because it is closed to a few places that we wanted to see , we would have check out after we check in.

It is a good place to stay if you are there for a vacation. The hotel is walking distance or just a tuk tuk ride away from many attractions. Some of the receptionists were annoyed when we asked them to write down locations in Thai language to show them to tuk tuk or taxi drivers outside. Many homeless people standing, sitting next to the hotel but they are not bothering anyone. The hotel has a very good buffet breakfast. We would stay there again.

Air conditioner is very cold and can’t be adjusted. Room is clean. I booked a 2 single bed room with breakfast but did not tell hotel that my room is for 2 persons. Hotel staff tried to charge the 2nd person 300 Baht which is ridiculous . She finally allowed my friend to stay but we still get 1 coupon for breakfast. None of other hotels I have stayed charges guests for this type of mistake. The price I have paid is for 2 persons and also 2 for breakfast. Please be careful when book this hotel. If you do make mistake about number of guests, you should call Expedia to correct the information before check in. Luggage storage charge is 30 Baht which is okay. We get free luggage storage in other hotels. I have stayed in this hotel long time ago and have such a good memory. I want to revisit even though there are many hotels near by to choose from.Things have been changed. I am so disappointed. I don’t know if I am going to stay at the hotel next time.

The Royal Rattanakosin has a great location. Walking distance to the Grand Palace and Wats. Near bus stop for A4 and S1 buses to and from both Bangkok airports. Lobby and common area are in great shape. The room and bed were comfortable. The bathroom had instant hot water and met our needs. An upgrade in bathroom would make it ideal. Would stay here again.

My husband had a foot massage and the person provided a very lack lustre service whilst watching the tv all the time. Buffet. Breakfast was nothing outstanding. They would not cook eggs omelettes. Check-in was simple and the service was kind. The room smelled like someone had smoked cigarettes or was smoking next door. The bed was not comfortable at all. The wifi absolutely did not work. I was on the 3rd floor using the 3rd floor wifi, but I had to go down to the lobby if I wished to do anything involving data. The walls were paper thin so anything that anyone else is doing is heard clearly. The hotel had some announcements going at 6 am that were so loud they woke me up in my room. Breakfast was good. The power also refused to come on after inserting my key card, but they fixed that immediately, to their credit. I ordered room service for dinner and a woman bearing no food and speaking no English showed up at my room. We were both confused. All in all, if you're wanting to save money and don't care where you're staying...pick a hostel cause this wasn't worth it.

Reminiscent of the hotel from The Shining

It was okay except for 2 incidents (we stayed for 3 nights). Once we got cigarette smoke through the AC vents because some people were smoking at a party in an adjacent room, although smoking is forbidden. The staff was reluctant to do anything about it, but eventually gave us a different room after a lot of persuasion. Then in the second room we had a cockroach crawl out of the bathtub drain, but the staff was responsive and sent someone to kill it with a spray can. Also, WiFi was practically unusable, had to use the data on the phone. Other than that, the hotel was comfortable although old-fashioned, only the staff seemed not too friendly. Good location, close to many places of interest.

Good location (can walk to Grand Palace and most of the important temples).
Hotel receptionists need to improve their customer service skills ( It took 4-6 people to check in 1 person and they tried very hard to ignore other people that waiting in line!). Also \"smile\" will help improve the hotel image.
I was given a room with carpet floor at the older wing and I found cockroaches first 2 nights. I showed the cockroaches to the receptionist and asked to speak to the manager. The receptionist insisted that there was no manager on duty! Luckily, a man walked in and intervened. He ordered the receptionist to change my room to the room at newer wing with hardwood floor and much cleaner.
Later, I asked the same receptionist for the gentleman's name.
She told me his name is Chai-yont, the night manager. The funny thing is that she did not know his last name!!
Anyway, I would like to thank Mr Chai-yont for his prompt action. That was an excellent customer services.

My recommendation is -- get the room with hardwood floor not carpet.

Bangkok was my first time in Asia. The city was gritty, with the poverty of some residents and tourists. The people were warm and friendly in a manner that made the stay relaxing. The hotel and staff had all the warmth of the people encountered on the streets in a well maintained building. The hotel was centrally located allowing access to the city center. Run down 4 stars hotel but good location

Hotel is a bit of run down. Finds ants in the room and bathroom. The water pressure of the toilet is not strong enough to flush the toilet well, need to hold the handle till the end otherwise, it could not flush well. Receptionists were not very polite and helpful. The hotel charges 10 BHT per luggage for storing luggage. However, the hotel in a good location. The price was very reasonable. Good for one or two nights stays.

Very comfortable room, quiet, nicer conditioning which was a welcome change. Good access to markets and local attractions and local transportation is always available outside the hotel.

Easy quick check in, clean comfortable rooms, marketplace only 6 minutes walk. Major attractions in walking distance but hard to walk due to heat and humidity, so don't count on walking too much. Cab fares are cheap from this location due to optimal location,
