Two problems.
Premier Room in the Annexe. First key didn't work; twice back to reception 100 m away so had to go back and forth.
Room spacious, BUT, a dreadful hum like a pump quietly, getting louder, cutting in and out every 2 mins, so impossible to sleep with this constant reverberation going round the room. A motor is either next door behind the wall or above in the cavity. Unacceptable to rent out to customers. Hotel should have been aware of this big problem. Had no idea. I spoke with the receptionist at the desk who was reluctant to get the manager. Why should one be charged for this lack of premier treatment? So be wary about staying in the Mercure Premier Rooms. A dissatisfied customer.

The air conditioning worked perfectly. The room was large and bright, very clean and attractively appointed. The street in front of the hotel was always extremely dirty with trash and the walking surfaces are in extremely bad condition. The hotel staff is excellent and attentive, the breakfast service was generous and of a high quality. Everyone was very gracious. I would say the only down side was perhaps the large tour groups that congested the lobby.

The hotel is in a great location in the centre of the city. The staff are friendly and efficient and I would happily recommend the hotel. I was accommodated in massive room in converted 19th century apartment building adjacent to the main hotel. The room was nice but I had a few quibbles. The smart Android TV is not connected to the WiFi and only had Italian TV channels. So, I could not access the streaming apps or Chromecast to the TV from my phone. Moreover, despite being a premium room, the hotel only provides paper cups in the rooms, which is rather ghastly if drinking local wines in your room.

The room was huge and I loved that plus the AC. It’s oddly noisy (I was on floor 2) but traffic and garbage trucks for 3 nights. Water pressure in the bathroom was great and so was breakfast. Surprised that they only offered shampoos and hand soap as toiletries. Otherwise really good stay. American like space and 2 double beds!

The hotel was quiet and the staff were friendly. In spite of this, I would never return. I was given a single room which was very hot. There is no temperature control in the room so they told me to open my window. I did this but it opened onto external stairs which left me vulnerable to whoever would climb up from the street. There was no chain or limit to how wide the window would swing open so anyone could get in. I did not feel safe. The room was about the size of a large walk in closet. I could have lived with this but there was a sewage odor. I couldn't tell if it was from the open window or the toilet. Also the toilet backed up immediately after my arrival and i had to have it fixed. To their credit they did this promptly. The food in the restaurant was fried to death and dry. The bar served me a \"watery\" martini (the worst I've ever had) with an olive with a pit! The breakfast was decent. The hotel does have some nicer rooms, I later discovered. I wouldn't have minded a small room if there weren't the problems that I've related here. I stayed in several other hotels in Sicily of comparable price and none of them had these types of problems.

I have two main issues with my stay at this hotel. Firstly, upon check-in, the room had a strange smell. I requested a different room, but the staff offered to clean the original room again. Even after recleaning, the unpleasant odor persisted. Secondly, I encountered a problem with the room temperature. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling cold because the heater was blowing cold air. The room has no thermostat control, so I went to the front desk to request that they raise the temperature. I asked them to adjust it two days in a row, but they insisted that the AC was working correctly. The staff could not differentiate between air conditioning and heating. Finally, for the third night, I requested extra blankets. They only delivered them after I reminded them three times, which made obtaining blankets challenging. Overall, my experience in this so-called 4-star hotel has been disappointing.

Daily problem with WiFi which I had to call to desk. One person on the phone suggested I bring her my phone since I couldn’t operate the WiFi. Front desk wouldn’t make change for 100 euros saying they didn’t have cash. Some staff were nice however. The morning buffet was nice. The hotel room was nice and the shower was excellent.

I love that this hotel was so close to everything. It was within walking distance. The only negative experience I’ve had, is I went out in the city for some toiletries and when I came back, there was a man sitting in my room watching TV. Also, when I came back to my room, a different day From an Excursion my room door was left slightly a jar. Luckily nothing was taken from my room and staff was able to accommodate me and move me to a different room where I felt more safe.

The Mercure is located in a very central place in the city near shopping and dining. I was able to walk easily to the entry point for the Hop on Hop Off Bus. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was ample. I would have preferred if the air conditioner could go down 1 or 2 more degrees, but it was still comfortable. We had a car and had no trouble finding street parking relatively close - one day right in front!

The air conditioner is horrible it’s on but barely works was sweating all night couldn’t sleep. The area around this hotel is dirty the buildings are full of grafitti and the streets are littered with so much garbage. There is dog feces every 20 feet on the side walks in this area. They call it 4 star it’s a 2.5 at best. I wouldn’t recommend this one to anyone. The buffet was mediocre at best. The staff was nice and friendly and the bar in lobby decent. Wasn’t was we were expecting at all.

We booked a taxi transportation from Palermo to the airport .The receptioist booked for us and told us it was only 50Euro flat rate. When we got to the airport the taxi driver said it was 70 Euro. He said he had to make a little detour because of accident. But we did not see much of a detour because the inbound ws about the same distance. There is on way to argue with the driver since we were limited in Italian. He did not put on meter and word just came out of his mouth. I will write to the hotel and let them know do not use this taxi company or this taxi driver in the future. Not an honest person.

The property is modern and very comfortable. I have trouble sleeping and my bed was great with lovely linens. Also the room was very quiet with good soundproofing. I had a huge balcony on the 7th floor with a city view. All of the staff were very pleasant. I especially liked Martina and Valeria who were so helpful. Great breakfast included. The staff were very friendly and made check in very smooth. They gave me all the information I needed for my stay there, including the valet parking. The room was large and comfortable, and breakfast the next morning was excellent. My concern was the area where the hotel is located, which has very narrow streets and is very noisy. Also, when I dropped off my car at the airport the next morning, the gentleman from the rental company pointed out some scrapes on the front left bottom of the car near the headlight. I can't prove that it came from the valet parking but I didn't cause that damage myself, and yet I had to pay for it. Again, I can't prove it was the valet, but be careful if you are letting them park your SUV... check it before and after, just in case.

Our room was very well appointed and clean. The breakfast buffet was reasonably priced and very high quality. The hotel is within 15 minutes walk of several of the more famous attractions in Palermo so it's a good base of operation if you are a tourist. Front desk staff was knowledgeable and helpful and spoke English well. Our only negatives were that the neighborhood was noisy at night, especially for dogs barking. Our room was on the lowest floor so if you get a room higher up this shouldn't be a problem. Would definitely recommend.

But overall it was a fab location. The hotel was id say trying to get the new rooms finished in a hurry.
Outside on the street like the rest of the area it was dirty but l guess you get that in Palermo.

It's a very convenient centric hotel. The reception area looks really nice but the rooms need an update, they're quite old. Breakfast buffet was great! Many options and everything was delicious. After a week of having \"Italian breakfast\" (which is only pastries and Nutella) it was such a relief to have a continental buffet option.

Location was accessible to main areas. Initial service at check in great. Access to rooms odd. Bathroom awkward to enter, sink near door blocks way. Very noisy with loud hotel staff. Cleaning station next to room. Looked out on to common stairs and staff could see in room. Noisy plumbing. Could hear other rooms. Hotel parked car for me for our stay. Car was scratched in several places and hotel has yet to respond properly and take responsibility. We will be responsible for damage to car rental company yet caused by hotel and parking staff. Hotel response has been slow and poor. We do not recommend staying or using parking.

This was not a hotel I would stay at again. Staff is dismissive and not overly helpful. Bed was okay but pillows were the worst, thin, flat and rock hard. Room was very warm, they did provide me with a fan to cool it down which was a nice accommodation. Separate shower would not fit the average US male, very small 3 feet by 3 feet if even that. Way off the tourist area and hotel staff never gave us directions to get to that area.

The location is close to the main attractions. 11 minutes walk to the beach.

Staff was friendly and tried to accommodate us. What I did not like with this hotel was their air conditioning system. One night the temperature rose up to 82 degrees and the AC was either turned off (they control it from the front desk) or was broken. They told me to open the windows. later on they provided me with a fan. Total of 4 days (out of 9 that we stayed at the hotel) the AC was not working (twice 2 consecutive days each time, a week apart)

Great Location

Hotel is in a really great and central location, 15 minute walk to the Old Town and 20 minutes from Centrale Station so a great base. It is also around the corner from Via Roma, one of the main streets with good bus links. Staff were very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay - we asked for duvets in our room before we arrived and they did this and they were very helpful when providing advice on recommendations on places to visit and places to eat. The room was a good size and we had a private balcony which we didn't expect which was a nice surprise although there are no tables or chairs outside - this would be a nice addition.

One point to make: because of COVID-19 you won't get a coffee / tea maker and kettle in the room although it is advertised that you will (you can order coffees, teas etc in the bar downstairs though). Not a problem for us - but just to let you know in case you are looking forward to making a coffee when you arrive at the hotel from the airport and you don't see anything there!

The only negative point; we asked reception how frequently they change the bedding and they said every 2/3 days. For the amount we paid, for the length of time we stayed there, for the 'name' of Mercure and most importantly, bearing in mind we are in a pandemic, I was surprised this was the case and the bedding was not changed everyday. However, having said that when we asked for the bedding to be changed everyday since asking, it was done.

I would stay here again.

Adequate, but worth investigating other options

The Mercure Hotel in Palermo provided an adequate stay while visiting the city. The positives included a good location (though a decent walk to the main tourist attractions), a very clean room and public spaces, no noise from the street, and generally attentive staff who spoke English. A shuttlebus from the airport dropped you at a point next to the Teatro Politeama, a short walking distance to the hotel.

There were, however, a few challenges. First, the instructions for setting the safe were incorrect and I had to request service to make it operational. That was helpful to a degree, but the small size of the safe necessitated leaving a camera / computer bag at the front desk during my stay.

I also found that the bathtub / shower arrangement was awkward as the bathtub had been installed with the shower head over the back end of the tub, not the front (drain-end) as is normal. This makes it somewhat risky trying to maneuver under the shower. Consequently, I switched rooms for one with just a shower with a conventional, fully closing shower door.

Last, there was no iron / ironing board in the room or even available at the hotel. I was pointed to a nearby laundry.

The breakfast buffet was also unexceptional, and the few cooked dishes were not particularly hot, let alone warm. The large tour groups the hotel catered to ensured food items were frequently needing a “top up” in the dining room’s early opening hours.

A/C Problems on 2 of 3 day stays. Was fixed, but 1st night miserable because got in late and thought it would cool down. One front desk incredible helpful, another was difficult. Seems to be a big tour group hotel.Smaller rooms but bigger than many European hotels.
