Clean but not in good condition!! Only the director of the hotel was nice and kind and she showed us some pictures of new rooms that looked very nice!! Cleaning lady said there is no shampoo, conditioner shower cap and body lotion because guest were taking it so no more but next day we had everything there including bathrobes and slippers! Major renovation needed!

The place is a 2star motel at best. Rooms were old. Wooden stairs were warped and splintered. Pool has missing tiles and no pump or filter. No cushions on beach chairs, rusted chairs, water wouldn't get warm in the shower, overall a disaster. This should not be a 4 star hotel. No ice machine no iron no charging devices for usbs in the room. We actively tried to stay out of the room.

When I was booking this hotel I was baffled why some reviewers rated it excellent and others terrible. Having now been there I understand perfectly. This is an old hotel with lots of character and ambience and great, friendly service. It has a big pool and private beach with lunch restaurant as well as a restaurant and bar in the main building. We loved it. The room was very nice, But if you are looking for all the modern conveniences of a U.S. hotel and 21st century plumbing, you could be disappointed. If mobility is an issue I would stay somewhere else as there are lots of steps.

Women beware: Wish I had been fearful when I saw a review of a woman three months ago saying a man tried to climb into her room. On the first night of my stay, I caught a man gawking into my room after I had just gotten out of the shower - nude. The back wall is almost entirely glass; and I could not pull down the blinds over the tub in the bathroom. The man, thin white man dressed in a white button down shirt and navy or black shorts with flip flops, lingered after it was clear I caught him. I was terrified wrapped in a towel as he just stood there for several minutes, feet away from me with the ability to easily enter the patio. It was dusk; and I was unable to get a photo of his face but did get his clothing in the photo. I watched him intensely not knowing what he would do next. As he left, he licked his mouth and tongue in a way that I have never seen before. Security came (one woman who was kind), and I was moved to a more dated room with no reimbursement. I was from the US, on a short stay, and determined to not let this (or anything) ruin my trip. I’m certain the search for this guy ended as soon as I was out of the way in a new space. As for not ruining my trip, I have spent so much time regretting not getting a better photo as it might be the only way to warn and protect other women who might be or consider being guests at this hotel. The environment (not the hotel) is beautiful, but I’m certain you can get that elsewhere with less concern of a man preying on women.

First impressions of the hotel was very pleasant and the staff were super friendly with a complimentary rum to get you in the island spirit!

It’s important to mention that the island is French/Creole speaking and although many can speak English, it’s not always easy! My French is limited and I found people to be very helpful and kind however, my experience would have been improved if I could speak the lingo a bit better!

I was in an ocean view room and it was stunning to look out every morning and watch the little green lizards and iguanas!
However! The hotel internals are very tired and the standard of finish is poor. If you are used too city hotels then you will be disappointed.
The room was clean but things like black on the shower head and old silicone etc makes the room feel less so.

The walkway between the main building and apartments is home to some very very noisy birds and they chirp all through the night!

The restaurant food was fantastic although unfortunately has zero atmosphere. The menu is limited and quite expensive. I suggest getting out to see the island and try new things.
The hotel reception team were more than happy to give me suggestions of places to try. Especially Emily who also booked taxis for me and helped decipher my terrible French, she was a pleasure to meet.

There is loads to do across the island. Go out to Saint Francois, hike the volcano and have a drink
I’m the marina! I will be back to visit Gwada!

We loved the ambiance of the hotel. The view of the sea and the sound of the surf lulled us to sleep nightly. Food was delicious. Staff friendly. Don’t miss the ferry ride to the lighthouse island for lunch.

We saw no other hotel with the quiet beach, great swimming pool and overall charm. We’ll be back!

Pleasant but not great.

The staff was lovely and very welcoming. The buffet breakfast had a good selection. Dinner was very good and there was outdoor seating with a view of the ocean. However the hotel is in need of a renovation. The bathroom in my room was quite old and there was very low water pressure in the shower. The bed was comfortable and there is WiFi throughout the hotel. The cushions on the lounge chairs by the pool and ocean were quite old and should be replaced. Location is good.
I think it is a bit overpriced for the condition the hotel is in. It is not up to the standard of what a 4-star Hotel should be.

It was difficult to get to the pool from our room. The shower and the bath in the room did not drain properly. They both overflowed onto the floor. The door to the bath in the bedroom was squeaking very loudly and would wake the the other person in the room.

Like many other reviewers said this place is clean but could use a serious update. The service was so so, breakfast and lunch pretty blah, and the beds were horrifyingly uncomfortable (this is coming from someone who backpacked Southeast Asia on a shoestring for 2 months so it’s not like I’m picky about my beds). The saving grace was the pool/beach area which is lovely! As well as the location, Gosier is a fun little area to stay in!

Great location, but overpriced

My wife and I came to Guadeloupe for an extended weekend in the off season in November primarily due to a very cheap airfare. We loved the island, it is not commercialized like many others at Caribbean, but has some great untouched nature and beautiful views.
The best part about the property is it’s location: we rented a car and were about 60 min max to any part of both islands. LaDacha beach is not fancy, there are a lot better beaches to visit on the islands. The resort offers free breakfast which is quite good, if you don’t mind the bird waiting around for a guest to leave a lid on one of the dishes open. There is a restaurant and a snack shack on premises that has meals and drinks for purchase. Drinks at the hotel are overpriced (even at the happy hour) you can go to small restaurants nearby for drinks that a half the price. Meals are nice and a priced fairly. There is also a small private beach and a nice deep pool. The building is a historic sugar plantation tower. It has a lot of history and character. Rooms are not very modern and could use an update (particularly beds are rather old and need new mattresses) We did not have internet in the room, in fact, I struggled getting it anywhere on the premises. It was not a big deal for us, however. We also did not have hot water for one of the days of our stay, of which we were notified by a note in French. Personally, I think hotel could have sweetened the blow by offering a complimentary drink or a credit for a dinner.

Lovely hotel in a great area

The Auberge de la Vieille Tour is an older property but kept up fairly well. It was built on a former sugar mill and the mill’s tower is included in the main building (there must be great views from the towner however it is used exclusively for hotel offices and guests cannot go up). The property consists of several low building spilling down a hillside to their beach and pool. A breakfast buffet is included but it is unremarkable. Dinners are good but a bit overpriced. We had a wonderful stay and didn’t see a better hotel on the island. The Air France crews stay here. One caution, there are a lot of steps and steep paths. This is not a location for those with mobility issues.

Grande Old Dame

An Auberge is an inn. This inn has the authentic look and feel of a historic place - which it is - the front tower being an original windmill (centuries old) for grinding sugar cane. The lobby, dining porch, bar and dining area have the look and feel of Casablanca. Charming. The breakfasts (included) are standard European fare with fruit, charcuterie, warm foods, good bread and kitchen made omelettes and crepes. Eating it on the porch that overlooks the ocean and the Le Gosier marina is worth the price of admission. If you are looking for the \"all-inclusive, sit-by-the-pool, great beach, activity experience\", L'Auberge is not for you, but why, in Guadaloupe, would anyone want that? You can get that on other islands or at Club Med. Guadaloupe is meant to be explored. L'Auberge is perfect for that because you are in the \"body of the butterfly\" with equal access to Basse-Terre and Grand-Terre. Very decent restaurants nearby down by the Casino. You should try to get a room in the main building or the first tier (separate building) below. The rooms are not \"luxe\", but clean and perfectly adequate in a B and B sort of way, tight on storage. Different reviews cite issues with staff. I totally disagree. Look, Guadaloupe is French and proud of it. Reception staff are generally fine with English and will make reservations for all sorts of activities. Wait staff are not as well-versed and some friendliness, a word or two of French (like bon jour, merci, sil vous plait) goes a long way.

Not a glass palace. Has character thankfully

This hotel has mixed reviews but I struggle to find out why. It isn't a gin palace with acres of chrome and glass and that is what makes it so special in my view. It has a lot of character, is very comfortable and rather beautiful. It is is simplicity and homeliness which would want us to come back again. You would be better speaking a little French if you want to make the most of it but then would you expect a French person to speak to you in French if they came over to England? Probably not, or very much not, to be fair. Some reviews say the staff are arrogant. We did not find this to be the case at all. Quite the contrary in fact. They could not have been more helpful or charming. My only criticism is the price of eating and drinking at the hotel. It is truly astronomic, but prices are generally high in the islands, even in the supermarkets. I like taking photographs but be warned, Guadeloupe is a French Departement so French privacy laws apply. In short, you can be sued if you take photographs of people or buildings without express permission. There was a minor incident where I was shouted at outside the hotel lobby (NOT from a member of staff or hotel management I should add) when I innocently took a video on my mobile of the entrance and grounds. The video was deleted and everyone went on their way. I would strongly recommend this hotel. Ifyou like understated chic, go for it.

Lovely, quiet hotel. Breakfast and dinner on the porch overlooking the Caribbean were very pleasant-birds flying around, tropical breezes, foliage. Excellent breakfast buffet plus eggs and crepes made to order. Dinners were very good. Very good wine list, moderately priced. Iguanas roaming the grounds. Driving around the island was easy using Google Maps and the map available at the information desk at the airport. The drives to Pointe des Chateaux and Pointe de la Grande Vigie were well worth the time investment for the scenic views (and the coconut gelato at Pointe des Chateaux).

Terrible value

This place costs a small fortune to stay, and the entire experience is sub-par. It would be a bad deal at half the price. The staff was not especially helpful and in some cases outright hostile. But more important was the upkeep and general maintenance of the place. Paint peeling, pools of water over stones, faded and old furniture and bedding. It looks as thought it hasn't been retouched in decades, never mind renovated. Somehow it is living off its former glory, which is no longer deserved. From the view one gets at the top of the verandah you can imagine it's former glory. A pity what it has become. I'll never stay there again, and bothered to take the time to write this review to reflect how poor I think the place is

Charm and Convience

Enjoyed a 10 day stay in March. The hotel is conveniently located for restaurants and exploring other areas of Guadeloupe. The hotel has old world charm and one of the best restaurants in town. The beach and pool are lovely and secluded. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.

Lovely private beach!

The hotel has a great private beach, with a snack bar! Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is very conveniently located for exploring Le Gosier, as well as the rest of Guadeloupe if you rent a car. Breakfast was great! Dinner was all right - lovely setting, but I preferred eating out at the local beach restaurants.

Good hotel for the first few days

Feels very luxurious, and is a great place to stay for a couple of days on arrival in Guadeloupe. But there are better beaches on the island, and better lunchtime restaurants. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were helpful and friendly. We moved away to two other establishments which were more basic but much better value. Even so, we enjoyed the Auberge, and would recommend it for short stays.

NOT FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART

We spent six nights at the hotel during the New Year period and high season. I think it was overpriced. One would have expected nightly entertainment during the holiday season. The bar service was slow and on more than one occasion we had to abandone our orders. At breakfast one morning the waitress forgot to fill my order for an omelette and about 30 minutes later apologized. On another occasion at the beach bar, the attendant was out of \"old rum\" and went up to the hotel to fetch the rum, only to return about 25 minutes later with fruits and other items. She proceded to fill other pending orders while I waited for my drink. My company walked away ftom this one and went to the main bar in the hotel where our order was promptly filled.
On our arrival, the TV in the room did not work and it was two days before we received a functional replacement following constant complaints to the reception clerks.
Service aside, the hotel is secure; the rooms were spacious and clean but the toileteries were miserly dispensed. Only one bottle of water was left in the room on the first day of a six night stay. The room attendant said she was authorized to give only the one bottle.
The staff was polite and friendly and appeared eager to satisfy, always with a pleasant attitude. The hotel is located about a 25 minutes drive from the Ferry terminal and International airport in moderate traffic and a taxi will cost you €30 per person. Renting a car from the airport might be a good idea.

Guadeloupe is the Issue, not the Hotel

We wanted a quiet beachfront resort to regroup after a stressful year and this hotel was perfect for one week. Unfortunately venturing outside the hotel was challenging. We took the air conditioned public bus to Point-au-Pitre. It was fun and easy BUT trying to get home around 4pm Saturday was difficult. We waited at the bus terminal and waited. There were no signs (English or French), very few people and no one spoke English. Luckily we found someone who told us that the LAST bus was at 5pm on Saturday. Had we been there after 5 we'd still be waiting! Of course we could hail a taxi (expensive) ...but wait, taxis are few and far between and they tend to take weekends and holidays off. We did manage to hail a cab from a supermarket but he was not there for business...he was there to shop...but he saved us and drove us back to the hotel for 15 Euros. Also, tours we wanted to take were in French only. It's an interesting island so it was a bit frustrating. It would be nice if the hotel could produce a short getting-around guide or something in English so tourists can venture outside the hotel. If there is something online with the relevant info let the guest know...we couldn't find anything.

Nice hotel, could be better

Stayed for a long weekend. The main lobby area is charming, friendly front desk staff. The hotel grounds are very nice and it looks like all or most of the rooms have full or partial water views. Our room had a big balcony and was OK but in need of updating, same goes for the bathroom. The rest of the place could use some paint and the pool caulking had lots of mildew around the edge. Wi-fi was very erratic. The breakfast buffet was very good, dinner also very good. Restaurant service was pleasant but not very attentive. The bar/restaurant around the pool didn't seem to be open, felt pretty deserted. Nothing of real interest in the immediate neighborhood. I found the hotel somewhat overpriced for what it is. At the present price point the rooms should be nicer with more creature comforts. For example I would expect a normal hotel coffee maker in the room (not instant coffee) and a comfortable reading chair with better lighting. Overall we had an OK stay but unlikely to return or recommend to friends.

Wonderful welcome and amazing view

I stayed at Auberge de la Vieille Tour 2 different nights in a week, and I almost felt like home ! The staff at reception is adorable, warm and professional. The view is breathtaking, the food really good - lunch, diner or the very complete and nice morning buffet. Anselme the barman makes up special cocktails, every day a different one, and is very friendly. Oh ! and the view...
The rooms also are great, with enough space, very comfortable beds, tea/ coffee and a minibar. Hard to leave them, but there is a nice little beach waiting for us !
At the beauty salon, they were already fully booked butnicely arranged for a massage in my room with an external, very professional masseur, whose service was well appreciated.
What more can I say... I loved this place and cannot wait to come back !

Great Hotel and wonderful staff

We had a wonderful 10 days stay in this hotel. The hotel was well located in 'Le Gosier'. The breakfast terrace is simply wonderful, with bougainvillier, a view on the sea and Gosier Island. The staff was more than helpful and willing to go beyond their way to help. The only slight negative was the bathroom which was a bit dated and the private beach had quite big waves (i.e. no snorkelling possible and quite a bit of algae).
You do need a car there, like everywhere in Guadeloupe as the bus service is quite rare. There is plenty of parking available. I would rebook there anytime, loved it!

Excellent staff- friendly and helpful

The hotel accomodated our desire for a better room. The \"superior room\" did not have a great water view, was close to a parking area, and the bathroom was small. Upon our request for a change we were placed ina \"Privilege\" room which had a great view, was quiet, and a much improved bathroom. Wonderful european breakfasts served in the morning. Excellent restaurant and beach snack bar. Very comfortable small private beach with lounge chairs. A car is a must and the hotel staff will contact Hertz for guests and Hertz personnel will pick you up at the hotel and allow you to return the car by simply leaving it in the hotel parking lot (a taxi can be taken to the airport which is much easier and quicker). It would be helpful to visitors if they can speak and read some French although Guadeloupians are friendly and make an effort to understand English and some menus have a brief English explanation and some restaurants have an English menu.

front-end staff was nice and helpful. restaurant and bar staff grumpy and inattentive. food was decent. room was fairly comfortable, but NOT CLEAN to the point of my bare feet putting black dirt on my white sheets. we decided not to stay the next day and enjoy the pool, because it seemed unfriendly. the beach was tiny. it worked for one night after the airport, but it was too expensive for such uncleanliness and rudeness for an overnighter. would have taken something half the price with the same poor review instead. the REST of out trip away from this joint was great. Nice quiet, although pricey, hotel w/ great staff

The hotel is ideal if you're looking for a quiet time on the beach, tanning and reading without distractions. The rooms are somewhat outdated, but were spacious and clean with great ocean views. No extra frills and not a true 4-star property, but everything in the room with A/C included was functioning as expected. I speak only a few words of French, but did not have any issue communicating with the staff (or anyone on the island for that matter) - there was always someone who could speak English. Breakfast on the terrace: the fruits, cold cuts, cheese and bread are served buffet style and after you sit down, the servers come around to take your room number and order of hot food: scrambled eggs, omelette and etc. The hotel has a private little beach corner (very typical of hotels in Gosier) and a pool with lounge chairs. Both were never crowded, thus was ideal for me who just wanted to unplug and laze on the beach for a few days. However, if you want to experience the postcard-perfect idyllic Caribbean beaches then you must drive to Saint-Annes or take a ferry to Marie Galante or Les Saints.

Greatly located, safe, beautiful private beach

I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. There are of course things that can be improved, but overall, if you want to go on holidays in Guadeloupe, this is a great place to go.
Take my rating of 5 stars as a relative rating compared to other hotels on the island, not to an absolute rating against all hotels all over the world (for that it would probably be more of a 4 stars).
Great:
-Safe, gated hotel, you won't have to worry about your car at night or about what you leave behind on the beach when you go for a swim
- Superb private little beach with long chairs
- The swimming pool is really overlooking the beach just like in the pictures
- Air conditioning in the rooms keeping the mosquitoes at bay
- Sea views from the rooms
- Reception staff is great
- Rooms are spacious and comfortable
- Location is ideal, enabling you to go to whichever side of the island you fancy in a reasonable time. Great for exploring
- Breakfast is marvellous!
Areas of improvement:
- The catering staff is a bit clueless sometimes
- The hotel restaurant is an absolute rip-off, service is slow, lazy and the food comes in small portions and is not authentic at all
- Staff doesn't speak English (except reception), surprising for an international hotel
- For families: doesn't strike me as children-friendly (especially not the swimming pool and stairs)
- Not accessible
- Rooms could be soundproofed better (you can hear the neighbours upstairs)

Wonderful hotel

We spent 4 days at the beginning of our 10 day visit to Guadeloupe. The hotel and staff were great and it was a very relaxing way to start our trip. Hotel is lovely, staff and services are excellent, the included breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of items and eggs or crepes can be ordered as well. Beach is small but perfectly fine and well fit out with chaises, cushions, umbrellas, shade palms and a small restaurant for lunch or snacks. We highly recommend the Auberge.

From Basse Terre to Grand Terre

Check in went smooth and they helped us with our luggage. We are native English speakers can speak Spanish and most people spoke English well enough. We did our best to speak French (which didn't help... LOL). Hotel is well kept and has a lot of charm. A good location but the rooms are pretty basic and nowhere near romantic like we stayed at in Le Grande Anse area near Deshaies. Suitable, good sized, clean and live-able nonetheless. CAN hear the waves crashing, all is good...

This is a very nice hotel by Guadeloupe standards. The rooms are sufficient and clean. The breakfast buffet every morning is included and is good. The small beach is very nice with comfortable chairs and the pool and surrounding area is quite nice. The food in the restaurant is fairly good but expensive. Nice hotel with incredible view

Some common areas need a little bit of maintenance -like around the pool for instance but our room was very clean with an incredible view. The restaurant/bar area is beautiful and has a wonderful authentic caribbean cachet (the main building is actually pretty old). We had dinner there and the food was great. We were very satisfied overall even if it was a little pricier than we would have wished, but Guadeloupe ain't cheap!

Almost..but not quite

I stayed at the Auberge de la Vieille Tour overnight, en route to another destination. I booked the hotel room via hotels.com solely based on the reviews. The price was a bit steep, and I don't believe the hotel was worth the amount of money that I paid for it, but what can you do? My choices were very limited. Anyway, the hotel and the grounds are GORGEOUS. My room was small, but adequate. I do feel as though my room hadn't been used in awhile, as it seemed very, very dusty. The spoons that were given with my tea cups were FILTHY and I wondered if they had been washed at all recently. The room service, although very quick in delivering my food, totally messed up my order. I don't know if I should say it is all their fault, as I do not speak any French and few ppl here speak English. But, when I asked for my steak well done (and elaborated that I do not want ANY pink in my steak), and the person taking my order seemed to understand what I meant, I believed I was going to get a well done steak. I was wrong. The steak I got was SO rare, I could've sworn it was still pulsating. It wasn't pink, it was BRIGHT RED AND COOL in the center. This is NOT well done. I was upset that I had spent $40USD for a steak that I could not eat. Because I did not feel like sending my food back and trying to communicate what \"Well done\" means, I simply threw the steak in the trash and ate the remainder of the food. While I was eating, I noticed quite a few ants coming out of the tray that room service had brought me. This was a major turn off. It would also be nice if the balcony doors had screens on them so you could leave the door open and get fresh air and NOT get bugs, but this is not the case. So I had to keep my balcony door closed as I wasn't interested in having any roommates. The beds, 2 twin beds pushed together, were not the most comfortable I had ever slept on, but definitely not the worst. The next morning I ate the continental breakfast served in the restaurant, which was FANTASTIC. The food was delicious with many items to choose from. The waitstaff were very attentive and friendly, even when I said I did not speak French. I needed a taxi upon my departure and they got one for me right away. I don't think I could give this place 5 stars, but I will give it 4. Freshen up the rooms more, cook food as per customers orders, and make sure the trays that you deliver the food on isn't filled with ants, and I'll be happy to give Auberge de la Vieille Tour 5 stars. But until then, no thanks. 4 is as high of a rating as I could give, and I know I'm being a little generous with that rating.
