Good hostel for travelers. It really feels like a place for people who are traveling, not locals just hanging around. I stayed in another hostel in LA before, but it was full of locals, so I left the next day with no refund.
I found this place after and it was much better. Good price for what you get. Breakfast is included, bathrooms are clean, and body wash is provided.

I stayed for two days. I was initially very baffled because I didn't receive any prior instructions via email or text about specific details when it came to check in. No one from the staff opened the gate when I rang the doorbell. I had to get a guest to open it for me. There was no signs outside of the house to indicate where the lobby or check in desk was and I thought the door had a passcode the whole time, so I was waiting for an email or a response for my messages sent via Expedia chat but got nothing. The check-in process was very lengthy and not very organized. besides the check in process, everything else was great. The beds were sturdy and not squeaky, mattress was comfortable, the common spaces were not bad and they had a canopy for shade which I appreciated. The balcony and the fact that there was a washroom within the room for the womens only rooms I also liked. Also the washrooms downstairs were private and individual which is a plus. The lockers are extremely small, there was also no signs indicating the luggage went in the other room for the womens only rooms but there was enough space for the amount of people staying in the room anyway. Suggestion: please indicate a lights out policy or quiet hours so people know when to be considerate.

I had a good stay but there was no real breakfast. Just bread and peanut butter and nutella both days. One guy ate the entire thing of strawberries and made himself 4 sandwiches leaving no bread for the rest of us….rooms are cozy and private and the balcony was amazing for fresh air.

The breakfast was simple but there were flies around the kitchen. Went inside the bedroom and fruit flies were hovering over my bottom bunk bed because the trash next to me was full! Bathroom were OK clean. The bathrooms need more hanging hooks or even a little mini table to put toiletries on there and hang towels (if need to).
Most hostels I’ve stayed were pretty up kept but this one was probably a 6/10 - I don’t think I would recommend that it!

After I booked The Rumi Hostel I was notified in a email that they only accept international travelers, and they’re refusing to return my money. I informed them via email that I was a Disabled Veteran with vision impairment and did not see any disclaimer of them only welcoming international guests. But the email has went unanswered and even Expedia representatives also attempted to get The Rumi Hostel to refund my money with no success.

I stayed at the Rumi Hostel for two nights and I loved the atmosphere and how comfortable the bedroom and living room were, as well as the convenience of the complimentary breakfast. It was great value and worth the stay. The metro stop was also close by as well as good visiting sites. I would definitely like to come back here again whenever I visit LA next time!

It's a small facility, but it's a perfect spot for traveling solo, I stayed to attend a concert nearby. There are a lot of plants in the outdoor area which makes it feel like an oasis in contrast to the usual LA smog. Kitchen is well equipped, quite clean, overall a great value. Highly recommended.

I've known about the Rumi for years but this was my first time staying. I'm glad I did. You can't beat the location if you need something in central Los Angeles or Koreatown. The facilities and property was clean and quirky. Easy access to public transportation/metro. Would definitely stay again.

As far as hostels go, it is very clean, safe, quiet, friendly staff, very affordable. Has a kitchen & light breakfast. Within a few blocks of the subway at Wilshire/Western. As well as several bus routes. 2 blocks from a Ralph's grocery store. Plenty of Asian restaurants & a McDonalds within walking distance. Within walking distance of a transit bus to Santa Monica Pier. One block from a transit bus up to Hollywod Blvd & Western. Hostel is conveniently located for getting to many places. It also has a gate locked at night with a code used to get back in.

The staff is the most unhelpful, rude, and dishonest group of people I’ve ever met. The people staying there are worse. You’re not allowed to flush toilet paper so the bathrooms are disgusting. They charge for every little things including dirty dishes and towels. They don’t follow the rules they’ve set in place but demand guest follow them strictly. I was woken up by the most rude staff in the middle of the night to take a banana I mistakenly brought into the room. Someone stole it and every additional one I purchased. Upon arrival the same rude staff member told me due to a glitch they would be putting me I a male/mixed dorm although my reservation specifically said “Female”. I was made to stay in the same room as her and moved the next night, only to have a man put in the new room 3 days later. I was told this man only presented as such but “her” passport says she is a woman. I know what a man looks like and after receiving a text about a possible “trespasser” the man was moved and another woman had taken their bed. I returned to the hostel to checkout earlier due the unsafe conditions and lies/mistreatment from staff only to find that the manager would not be refunding me for the days I didn’t stay there.

One thing that hotels.com does not tell you is that with a hostel they want you to be traveling and they want you to present your airplane ticket or bus ticket. I needed but cheap room in LA for one night so I went ahead and went in and I showed them my bus ticket. But my ID was from California. She said I'll let you pass tonight but you can't stay more than one night. So that is not listed in hotels.com.

I had a great stay at the hostel—friendly staff, clean rooms, and a vibrant atmosphere. However, my last day was spoiled by an unfortunate incident. When I went to check out, someone took my mug and tea maker from my room within minutes. Disappointingly, the hostel staff didn't take responsibility. Aside from this, it was a good experience

It’s a hostel, so you can’t expect much, but even with that it failed expectations. The $20 deposit you will probably never get back. Toilet paper goes in the trash cans not in the toilet so good luck with that smell. Looks like there’s no professional work done on the property in who knows how many years. The “complimentary breakfast” is really just peanut butter and jelly you make yourself hoping no one double dipped. The bathrooms have no towels and there aren’t enough bathrooms for how many guests are staying there. The lockers are put in between a wall so you have to have a very small lock to fit and only a small bag or two that will fit in the locker. The beds are uncomfortable and small. I’m not one to have bad allergies but I got hives from the bedding. If you don’t have much stuff, and just want a place to sleep and looking for the cheapest place available then this is the place for you. Otherwise I would look elsewhere. To me it was not worth the cheap rate.

Amazing location and stay, 10 minute walk from the D line. Staff went above and beyond to correct a mistake I made by selecting the wrong dorm and were able to get me a room regardless. Room was clean, beds were clean and the place was secure. Very much so recommend staying here 10/10.

So I got comfortable room but my bed right next to AC , it was so much noise , then got bite from bug 🐞 and they did not respond my messages for refunds or changing room so I checked in 9pm and I checkout 1.30 am I couldn’t sleep , I spent the night in my car

The best Cali vibes. People playing guitar in the front yard and piano in the living room, chilling on the couch, sharing stories. A little crowded, but very laid-back, the best place if you want to get the sense of youth in LA, learn about Tunisian, Indian and Russian food in one kitchen and exchange travel experiences… I will be back!

Nice for the price just make sure you bring your slippers earplugs and sleep eye mask so when they turn on the light or they snore at night you should not annoyed them. Please be polite for your roommate, and the slippers is for the restroom. The bed is comfy for sleep. Convenient area.
