Stayed for a few days. On a beautiful bay. No beach but you could access the water to snorkel or swim from the dive shop dock. Room was adequate for a few days. It definitely is time for painting and upgrades. Shower leaked around glass. The foot had a 2” gap in one corner that allowed mosquitoes in. Easy access to pool and dining room. Dining was excellent. Great staff of waiters. Our air conditioner broke down the last night of our stay flooding the floor. The front desk gave us pool towels to lay on the floor. We were concerned about mixing water with the electrical as it appeared to drip through a light in the bathroom too.

This was our third stay at Captain Don's, we loved it as much as the first time, in 1998. We were upgraded to the deluxe oceanfront suite, great view, large room. 2 pools at the resort. Staff helped us with car rental options after the place we reserved with had no cars. We enjoy being in the quieter area away from town. Having a car is needed if you want to explore the island (which you definitely should) but, if you don't have a car, there's a supermarket and some restaurants walkable to the resort. Onsite dining and bar at the resort as well. Bar bites and pizza on site in addition to the full restaurant. The reef to the right was good for snorkeling, plus 2 resident tarpon had out under the restaurant.

The hotel was clean and in such a great area. Could snorkel right off the property and walk to some great restaurants, although they have a great one onsite too. Nice gift shop on site along with bar and restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No beach but we were there to snorkel. I wish I would have done more research as there are some other great snorkel sites I wish I could have gone to.

We paid hotel taxes through Expedia when we booked our room. When we got to the airport, we were stopped by two men that told us that we had to pay a tax at the airport. I ask what the tax was for and they said because people that stay in condominiums don’t pay the hotel tax so Everybody has to pay it. I told them I could show them where I had paid the hotel tax but they charged us $150 anyway before they were even let us enter the airport. We had to charge it on our charge card and this is out rages to have to pay the hotel tax twice I would like somebody to call me about this. My number is 361-758-2028 and my email is. [email protected]. The hotel was nice and we got the room we want it. They took a $500 deposit on our charge card as soon as we got there . we had to leave at 4 AM on the 29th so we were told to come back at 5 o’clock on the 28th and take care of our bill. They told us we owe $259. I said take it out of our $500 deposit and they say they would, but checking my credit card statement but they charged us the $259 on our charge card anyway.

The best place to stay for diving! You have a locker for your gear right by the dock. You put your gear on and in minutes you’re driving in one of the best spots on the island right off of their dock. The staff is incredible & totally equipped for boat dives if you want that. We looked at other places & we will go back to Captain Dons for sure! The food is pricey & only OK but it’s easy to get to other restaurants.

The property has an amazing setting with an amazing view which made up for a really dated room. Room 70 needs a serious update. The bathroom looked great because it was updated but this rest of fhe room was not updated. The beds were so old and the mattress and pillows was very uncomfortable. Expedia also needed to say that you need to put down a deposit of US$200 because i was unprepared for this.
