Stayed in the 2 bed flat. Pricing was excellent, rooms served their purpose. Didn't realise there was a little cooker in the kitchen do major bonus. Just a few niggly things that meant the review is just ok- eg. Door handle wasnt attached to wardrobe, shower water pressure and temp was dependent on kitchen tap, TV remote didn't actually work (and when asked for a replacement just had the batteries replaced). But that's it, overall no majors, was what we expected.

The accommodation was very good and the staff courteous. Good central part of town. It was around 7.00pm when we arrived and there was no one on reception. I called the phone number on the door as instructed but it didn't work. Fortunately I had the motel phone number so was able to use that. They were very helpful and directed us to our unit which was unlocked and available to us.

Very much in need of a tidy-up. My room was up some extremely steep internal stairs. Disturbing to note that my room key opened not only my room, but the door at the bottom of the stairs. Fine, except that there were two rooms at the top of the stairs, and I'm presuming that the key for the other room (14) also opened the bottom door! In which case my room (12) was probably able to be opened by the room 14 key! The room price ($103) was cheap and basically so was the motel, at least that part of it I was exposed to. The website states it was built in the 1940's and the whole ambience of the place reflected that.

Convenient location for the duration of stay, very dated accommodation, mismatched taps, worn vanity unit.
Non smoking unit that reeked of stale cigarettes.
Cobwebs in top corners of the ceiling complete with dead moths.

Generally a disappointing experience, yes it was a cheap last minute booking.
Alas you do get what you pay for.

Location good about a km to walk into town over the Avon River. Plenty of food places once in town.
Only negative was I stayed on a Saturday night and the boy racers were hooning up and down street so was a little noisy thankfully this didn’t last all night.

Unit was fine, however, a splash of paint would be better especially on doors. Shampoo system in shower was a bit high for short folk.
Other than above it was good.
Afterthought. Book said free pickup for casino, apparently thats not available now. Might pay to remove it.

The unit was well presented, spacious, clean and nice decor. I mentioned no hot water in the kitchen and this was attended to immediately. My laundry was washed and dried for me at a reasonable price. Within distance of most areas. Enjoyed my three night stay there.

You get what you pay for

This motel is used for transient workers and social housing. It is very quiet however. When we arrived the person on the desk wasnt terribly interested and spoke next to no English. The room had a TV but no access to free to air channels. They badly need to add freeview. Netflix didnt work because they hadnt paid the bill. This was resolved. Unit was clean and serviceable. Beds were comfy and the shower was awesome. Good points more than balanced out the bad. Its reasonably close to centre of christchurch

Tried to check in 2.30pm and room wasnt ready.
Room looked different to photos but I must say the one I got seemed more spacious and cozy.
I had horrendous squeeky stairs to walk up and down which made me feel bad for the room that was next to me. And also in my room there were spots that if you walk it sounded like i was banging on the wall 😅
Room service could come at better times as everyday was very different, and I had to keep asking for toilet paper. The last day I was there I got some without asking so I was very thankful for that.
I was there 6 nights.

The motel seems \"tired\" and in need of a do oover. The furniture and applicances are very dated and do not all work. Just an overall worn look to everything. The size of the TV seems very small compared to the rooms and that didn't work anyway. The people did their very best and it was appreciated being given a different room. Thank you. The hot water this morning was cold and I left very early. The booking was for a studio unit which looked lovely ij the picture but treality was not like that. I was given another type as the studio unit wasn't available. I couldn't recommend this place until it get's an ugrade. Glad it was for just one night.

The property is very conveniently located to the city. The room was also quiet & I didn't hear the neighbours, either to the side or above.
Check in was a nightmare as I arrived at 630pm. The office was locked with no-one inside. In addition the phone number that was posted on the door went unanswered despite calling & leaving messageS, plural.
I eventually got in around 40mins after arriving once I got the attention of an off duty maid. This needs to be fixed.
The room was clean, tidy & quiet. My only criticism were that the bathroom clearly had no insulation & was freezing. There were also tacks sticking up from where the bathroom & main room met.
Apart from that it was fine.

Rooms were spacious and had a proper air conditioner only a few blocks from city. It appears some rooms are rented out long term which have attracted noisy renters, I stayed 2 nights and the last residents were noisy till early morning, so my other booking in a week later was cancelled by me.

Not what we expected

Disappointed with rooms. We moved rooms after the first night due to noise and the second room was slightly better. Quite run down though - carpet worn through in places, only two stove elements worked, oven tray so dirty we gave up trying to clean it. Bathroom however was very clean and beds were quite comfy with clean crispy sheets. Guest Laundry was revolting; washing machine had some sort of scudge in it that could be wiped off with your fingers, there was another machine that was full of clothes, washing powder, pipes and appeared to be disconnected?! This was right in front of the dryer that presumably worked but you'd have to move the washing machine to get to it. We used a laundromat. They were very accommodating however when we asked to change rooms due to road noise and allowed us to leave our luggage in the room until we left for the airport at 2pm on the day of checkout as it was not booked. So 50/50 really for a short stay.

we stayed here overnight before we flew home and were happy with the cleanliness and size of the room. Lynda was nice enough to upgrade us to a 2 bedroom unit which has loads of space + kitchen for our kids to relax in. Proximity to the city centre was also good although we were a bit lazy and didn't walk around but you could easily do it.

Modern, clean 2 bedroom apartment within walking distance to CBD. Well furnished with comfy beds and kitchenette was equipped to prepare simple meals, not that you need to as there are good restaurants nearby. Owner was extremely friendly and helpful with directions and advice. We arrived early before check in time and she allowed us to park our car on premises and store luggage in room. Wish we could have stayed longer.

I was extremely happy with our stay at the Abbey Motel. The room was newly renovated with a gorgeous bathroom and lovely room. The bed was really comfortable. The motel was in walking distance to the centre of Christchurch.
The staff were lovely and friendly.
I would happily recommend this motel.

Our room had clearly been updated recently and looked great but obviously done on the cheap. We got fresh towels each day but the soap and shampoo was not replaced which meant we ran out. Our room had a single and queen in one room, which worked fine for us but may not work for a lot of people. Overall I thought it was ok but wouldn't rave about it.

Staff were lovely but the room was a bit run down, one sofa you couldn't even sit on it was that hard and the queen bed needs replacing. Location was great & in light of what has gone down in ChCh over the last few years would give the place a break but the owners need to give it a bit of a spruce up........... and replace the window restrictors as most of them had broken off and made shutting the window almost impossible.

Rude owner - would not stay again.

Average motel, ok for the price. I did however have the manager barge into my room at 10.20am as I was late to check out (the 10am time was not advised to me on check in). He was extremely rude and demanded I leave immediately not before he gave me a lecture. While he did come back and apologise, and at the time I accepted this it was unacceptable that it even happen and I would not recommend anyone stay here. He had a bad night with other guests but this is no accuse to treat guests like this and the fact he even did means regardless of his reason or apology means he doesn't know how to treat his paying guests.

Had a 3 night stay here and the manager was kind and very helpful when my daughter was unwell. The rooms are being upgraded with lovely new bathrooms and there is good parking onsite and a guest laundry which is handy when travelling with kids. Would definitely stay again.
