I picked this motel for the location and the price.
It was a 1 night stay. For those reasons it met my needs.
General impression of the unit is that it needs updating and a deep clean. Especially in the shower.
I could not get the lights over the bed to work. One of the fixtures felt like it was broken.
The fan in the bathroom has a broken cord that makes it very difficult to turn on.
Ants were on the kitchen bench in the morning although I had very little food out.
The bed cover and carpet had stains.
I would not stay again.

Nice unit on ground floor, three of us stayed,was spacious and comfortable. Downfall was the cold shower in the morning as the unit shared the hot water tank with the upstairs unit. The tank was in the bedroom I was sleeping in and became very noisy from 7am as the occupants of the above unit (a family) started their showering, then no hot water for us.

Modern , spacious, well equipped, warm in winter time, close to the eating places and supermarket. We were staying just for a short time before our flight home. Room was spacious and it was great for lots of packing after our trip to NZ. We left hotel at 4am heading the airport , there is a drop box for the keys. There is gas station 24/7 on the way, just 1 min drive, where you also could buy a sandwich. ..

This was the second time we stayed at Alcala Motor Lodge, and again we were very happy with the friendly service we received. We were actually put into one of their two bedroom apartment studios, at the same rate as the smaller single room we'd earlier booked, because people using that room had extended their stay, so that was a very pleasant surprise for us. We were very happy to be shown to our rooms by the owner when we first arrived, plus when we'd come back late one evening, they had turned on the heating and lights for us, which was a welcoming and kind thought. Fresh towels were delivered each day, coffee and tea supplies replenished, plus we were asked if we needed our apartment cleaned. The beds were very comfortable, and we loved the spa bath - a real treat!

The motel is clean. The room is spacious with all the amenities. Well located on a main road. There is a supermarket and some restaurants close to the motel but some were closed. Overall, I enjoyed that stop on my way to the South of the island.

I stayed twice and enjoyed both visits. Hosts Yuting and Zheng very nice, provided good tips for a Japanese restaurant (Tomi) only a block away that was quite good. Free newspaper in the morning a nice touch. Very thoughtful hosts.

Perefect place to stay.

The stay was enjoyable, the only thing I marked less than 100% is the hotel condition, in that it is a few years old and some fittings etc. show that, otherwise it could not be faulted. Would certainly stay again and recommend to others. Close to city centre and very reasonably priced.

We were able to book in at 1pm instead of the usual 2pm for most other accommodation. We had booked online but were expected and welcomed. We were offered a choice of milk (trim, full cream) and help with our bags as our unit was upstairs. Later the newspaper was delivered to us free of charge. This was appreciated since we had travelled for 3 hours to reach Christchurch and needed a rest before a 2pm appointment.
The unit had just been re-carpeted. The whole painted area was immaculate and spotlessly clean. Although close to a busy road the traffic noise was not intrusive. It was pleasant to hear the rain on the roof.
We had an out patient procedure to be performed at Southern Cross Hospital which was conveniently near-by.
As we booked out next day we were fare welled by staff who enquired about the small operation as one eye sported a patch.
