The property is beautiful, with well appointed rooms. The wait staff were very friendly but not attentive, probably given the 15% service charge added to all bills so they don’t need to work for their tips like they would have to in other places. Prices for food is expensive - this is likely due to location & the fact this is a nice hotel. It also doesn’t help that they price everything in USD which is at odds with most other places in Belize. If you don’t have your own vehicle, it is difficult to get to any other restaurants. Overall, would recommend based on the location & facilities

Gaia Riverlodge was great!. Excellent service, very good food and beautiful scenery and setting of the rainforest and overlooking a waterfall. The tours and guides were also very much enjoyed. Learned alot about Belize, Mayan culture and the rainforest. Highly recommend the whole experience.

This hotel is the most unique and special place I think we’ve ever stayed! The property is absolutely beautiful. The five sisters waterfall on property takes the place of a resort pool and it is the most gorgeous and peaceful place to spend a day. We ended up spending two full days down there since we loved it so much. The rooms are beautiful. My husband was nervous about how hot it might be without AC, but it was not a problem at all. The service was incredible. Most of the staff at the hotel knew all four of our names and treated us like family. If I had to get a con, for us Americans, the drive into the property was challenging. I definitely recommend not doing it at night your first time and taking it very slow. But we did it multiple times over our stay of four nights and we were fine as long as you go slow. The only other issue we experienced was the tram to take you down to the waterfalls was broken during your thing. That seemed to be a fluke, but it was very disappointing as the steps up and down a challenge and there was no food or drink service down there. But we would absolutely stay here again! We were there with our two teenage daughters and it was everyone’s favorite place we have ever stayed!

This may have been our favorite hotel ever for our family of four, including two teens. It was gorgeous and so unique, and the hospitality was off the charts. Every staff knew our names. They were all incredible, but especially Kobe! And the waterfall and pools were amazing to swim in. We planned on spending one free day there but ended up being there for two because nobody wanted to leave them!

If I had to find a criticism, the tram to the waterfall was broken while we were there. This seemed to be unusual but was a big hardship me with a bad knee. It is also fairly remote and the road is a bit scary to drive at night but we ended up doing it. It was worth it. We hope to be back!

Located in the pine ridge reserve over looking waterfall, the view is stunning. Private waterfall natural pool lounging area is available to the guests. Room is cozy and comfortable, smaller than expected. Complimentary breakfast is great since there are only two high-end restaurants within 25 minutes drive. It is expensive to dine in the hotel. Landscape and the surrounding nature is beautiful. It is close to Big Rock waterfall. There is no AC in the room, but we didn’t feel hot as the mountain is cooling. However, the approximately to the fall does make all our clothings quite damp. The staff are extremely friendly.

We stayed in the villa and it was wonderful! Very spacious, private, and quaint - I would describe it as rustic luxury. The staff at Gaia is great - everyone goes above and beyond! There is a lot to see and do nearby - especially if you're active. It was a great 4-night stay!

Property is very nice overall and the employees were wonderful. Location is lovely with easy access to the waterfall and beautiful sunsets from the deck.
Only issue was the water pressure was weak in our our mountain view bungalow.
Due to the location you are somewhat hostage to the restaurant as it's a bit of a trek to get out. Fortunately the kitchen did a great job and we enjoyed the meals and the drinks.
They were accommodating for early morning departures and would pack up to-go breakfasts if you let them know the night before. Coffee delivery to the room was also greatly appreciated.
Overall it's recommended and we would stay there again.

It was great. The waterfalls on site are stunning. The views from the restaurant are amazing and the staff was great. They were always friendly and attentive. The only complaint is that it needs some sort of AC for during the day. Fans weren't enough to keep the room cool in the hot season. Other times of the year I'm sure it's perfect. I'd still highly recommend it.

Beautiful property! Very expensive but was very thankful I got at least one night experience at Gaia. Waking up to the 5 Sisters waterfalls is magical. Especially loved the garden and was very lucky to get a tour from farmer Pat. We also did a night jungle walk and we enjoyed that a lot as well.

Gaia has an Amazing location perched above a beautiful waterfall. Three days was sufficient for us—gave us time to tour a Mayan Ruin and canoe thru a nearby cave. The food was outstanding as was the staff. Javier and Freddie really made the stay next level. The road in needs some attention, beyond that our stay was great!

Gaia was as beautiful as all I read about! From the moment we arrived at Belize International Airport, we were greeted right away from a staff member of Gaia informing us of where our shuttle would be. Before you know it, we were in the mountains greeted at the front desk by Colby and Tony in the restaurant who was at our beck and call with every need we had. we had lovely dinners breakfast on the beautiful deck overlooking the waterfall, took the bikes out one day and found big rock waterfall, which was an amazing day. Bring your water shoes Had amazing dinners each night under the beautiful stars. What a perfect relaxing vacation.!!

I paid more for a room next to the waterfall. The windows had no glasses, just screens. Therefore, the room was wet and cold. We had to use the hair dryer to dry everything at all times. The hot water was not coming out. They could not fix it. The concierge was a disaster. Organized poor excursions, and when we traded, he charged the same amount. Except for a couple of days everything else was not worth it. Tthey said they would refund two nights. They did not refund the complete two nights. The food was also bad

Gaia was a wonderful place to enjoy the jungle side of Belize. The staff was very responsive and assisted me with transfer from Belize City and back. There was an extra charge for this service. Check in was a breeze and the rooms are very comfortable. Hector at the front desk made arrangements for tours and spa and transportation, Freddy and Demor and Darren were perfect servers and went above and beyond! The resort is lucky to have them. The space down by the waterfall for sunning, dining and spa is so peaceful! Coco, the resort dog, accompanied me on a walk to Big Rock Falls too! It was a lovely stay. I cannot wait to come back some time.

The riverside Villa was amazing. One of the most beautiful places I have ever stay. We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was great!!

Gaia was INCREDIBLE. The property is gorgeous, the rooms are beautiful, the scenery is stunning, and yet the best part is the fantastic service. We felt like friends with Freddy and Javier by the time we left. Greg was also a wonderful tour guide. And Colby helped us decide on and book adventures. They all made us feel right at home! un fact, they didn’t let us check in until we’d had a welcome drink and sat down for a lovely candlelit dinner. And speaking of the restaurant - the food and drinks on the property are really great which is good because unless you have 4WD you’re unlikely to be going elsewhere to eat. Expect to pay American prices for food and drinks but it’s worth it as almost all (if not all) the food is grown right there on the property - everything’s incredibly fresh and delicious. My favorite part was lounging down by the waterfall or sitting on our balcony overlooking it, listening to the sounds of the jungle.

We spent three days at Gaia, a beautiful, small lodge nestled in the hills above San Ignacio. The room was beautiful and looked out over the waterfalls, the sounds of which lulled us to sleep. Dinner and drinks in the main lodge were excellent. We also went on an Intro to Birding tour in the morning, saw toucans and other birds and went on the tour of the garden which supplies fruits and veg to Gaia and to its sister resort in San Pedro. You can hike along the nature paths and walk down to the waterfall and chill out there (and take the funicular back up!).

I was a bit worried that we were too far out of San Ignacio for first time visitors who were going to be out and about doing things like the ATM cave tour and visiting ruins, but the road is now almost entirely paved (only the last 10 mins are off road, and that section is graded). Gaia is better suited to those who want a few days in a beautiful luxury setting away from it all. But with our own rental car, we had the best of both worlds and left feeling refreshed by the greenery and water, the beauty of Gaia, and uniformly fantastic people who work there.

We love the individual “Casita” arrangement - and so many neat locations around the property, yet, everything is so convenient!

All we can say is WOW — Gaia Riverlodge left a wonderful impression. Truly magical, and by that I mean the hotel itself as well as the professional and courteous team. Even more beautiful in person than in the pictures. Was in another lodge in 2019 and this place is awesome.
Only issue is that tours aren’t actually as advertise. Ours had beer included, but we had to pay them.
Staff is amazing, our Guide Rick was very knowledgeable and friendly.
We even had our private guide(Koko the resort dog) bring us to Big Rock falls( a must see if you can).
I would recommend to anyone thinking of visiting this part of the country.

The lodge was really nice with lots of atmosphere and lush gardens. The best was a view of waterfalls from our cabana and you could hear them too. Very soothing. Also, could take a small funicular down to beach area where you could swim amongst the waterfalls. The lodge would even bring you lunch and drinks. The staff and tour guides were incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The food was excellent too! Highly recommend! Very satisfied!

This is an amazing breathtaking property.
The views, vibe, & accommodations beautiful, & the entire staff wonderful.
Private, secluded, beauty all around. Nature trails, exploring. Coco the dog! A surprise magick show by one of the team. (Vegas needs to watch out for Chris!)
It took me this long to write the review, because im still mourning leaving. Literally broke my heart to go.
The restaurant lovely, food great. We barely left premises, didn't want to. The jungle felt like home, like paradise.
The Government tourism board needs to focus on these secluded jungle properties, not just the beach area! Unlimited potential for nature lovers seeking privacy.
And we are hospitality veterans, working in hotels 30 years. Very critical eye!
The owner and his son chose a great property & location, & their vision translated and was magical for us. Absolute magic, & we are so grateful. To the staff as well, each one.
We will be back, hopefully sooner than later. Thank you Belize, thank you Gaia. Thank you Expedia for making it more affordable for us hospitality veterans. Was a dream come true.

The Riverlodge is perfect in every way. From the moment you walk in the entire staff treats you like royalty! Cocktails for the tour, nice cold rag for your sunburn....I mean to freshen your face! The food was amazing (ribs and steak were our favorites), the care and accommodating requests were all five stars. We arrived sunburnt from snorkeling, the staff found us real aloe (and the gel meanwhile) to soothe our pains. Massages were the best we've had by US standards and the packed lunch for the ATM tour was also amazingly delicious! (We had the jerk chicken and chicken salad). Do not hesitate to book. Yes, there are bugs, not they are not bad (it’s a jungle out there!), no there is not AC, and no you do not need it. We slept comfortably all night every night. There are floor fans and bug nets to keep you comfortable. Yes, there is not Wi-Fi in the rooms, no fear, you are connected while on the property! Book now, you will not regret, the whole place is stunningly beautiful! Bonfires at night under the stars were an absolute bonus, along with the card tricks from Chris!

The location of Gaia Riverlodge is excellent. Set in the middle of greenery, it is a tram ride/300 steps away from the five sisters waterfalls and a mile away from big rock waterfall. Better still is the friendliness and attention of the staff. They were ever helpful, courteous and even learnt our names to provide a personalized experience. We booked a ride back to the airport with them and stopped at the Belize Zoo on the way back. Our driver/guide was excellent. Will definitely return here.

Really beautiful property on the west side of the country. You get to see the section of Belize full of pine trees and mountains which is very different from the rain forrest areas. The rooms were spotless and they thought of so many small details to make it even better. The falls and area by the falls is incredible.

Amazing property nestled in the forest. Felt incredibly private and capped at 32 guests. Staff were outstanding and knew our names in the first 5 minutes. You're greeted by a cold towel and rum punch (what could be better). The main lodge overlooks the PRIVATE waterfall you have access too and all meals are served there! We did two tours through them the atm tour and caracol. Both were amazing and the guides picked us up at the hotel and took us there and back and provided high quality yours. Also, get a massage. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and highly recommend.

The most beautiful place that I have stayed.The place it’s in the middle of the jungle with tropical flowers all around the property. From our room we had the best view of the waterfall. You can hang out down there by the waterfall. They have lounge area by the waterfall. This place it’s unreal , will recommend it to everyone going to San Ignacio . They also have all the tours options in the area right there on site , so they can take you everywhere you want . Great time.

Absolutely fabulous! Surrounded by jungle with a waterfall for a swimming pool, what more could you ask for! Yet, there's more. The food at the restaurant was excellent with a good variety to choose from. Fun designer cocktails as well. The staff was very friendly while being quietly accommodating. Everything we asked for was arranged and followed through with in a timely manner, including covid tests at the hotel and a box breakfast one morning when we had an early start. The rooms have a treehouse feeling and are spacious, private and comfortable event without a/c. Just be aware the location is pretty isolated so for excursions it will take a bit more time and money. But the isolation is what makes it so special. Highly recommend!

The extremely friendly service, the location with the waterfalls, the beautiful sunset views for happy hour, and the extra comfy and beautifully designed rooms made it one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. All of the on-site activities and amenities like the night hikes and natural waterfall pools made it feel all so unique and special.

This property was amazing from the moment they picked us up from the airport. Our driver was so knowledgeable and friendly. We were welcomed with a signature drink and smile as soon as we walked into the lobby. The staff used our names and really got to know us. The resort itself was beautify landscaped and we could not have asked for a nicer room. The food was amazing for all of our meals as well as the signature cocktails. They did a great job of hosting us and booking our tours. We did the Mayan Ruins and also the Horseback riding and loved both. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to see more of Belize than just the beaches. Rudy our Driver/Guide, Freddy our Server and Chris at the front desk were 10 out of 10.

Gaia's beautiful location in Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve was our favorite portion of a recent Belize trip, and (to our surprise!) we enjoyed our time there even more than our week in the Cayes.

We arranged a couple of tours (I recommend ATM!) through the lodge, and were very glad we did. We compared prices elsewhere too, but Gaia's prices were competitive, and far more convenient given the location.

Most guests at the lodge were couples. The lodge isn't large and didn't feel busy, but we were there during the \"shoulder season\". Everyone we interacted with at the lodge was friendly and helpful, and took care of our logistics questions professionally.

Background: My partner and I stayed at Gaia Riverlodge for 5 nights, shortly after travel restrictions lifted following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amazing Anniversary Trip

Gaia Riverlodge was amazing! We spent our 35th anniversary there and couldn't have chosen a more romantic and adventurous location. We stayed in the Cascade cabana overlooking the falls and took advantage of several excursions (including Caracol/Rio Frio Cave and Barton Creek/zip-lining). Big Rock Falls are a short mountain bike ride away and should not be missed (we went twice). Guides are well trained and very knowledgeable. The locally-sourced food was also really good, but we would have liked to see a few more Mayan/Belizean recipes on the menu. Linens were always clean and fresh and the bedding was incredibly comfortable. The service and staff were 5-star. Can't say enough about the staff! Very attentive to all needs, professional, and genuinely friendly. In 5 days, we made memories for a lifetime. If you're looking for uncrowded, out-of-the-ordinary trip to unplug and reconnect, this is it! Thank you Gaia!

Amazing... want to go back!

Amazing stay! Customer service was personalized and genuine. It’s a small lodge so they get to know you and remember your names. It’s a nice tough to be welcomed by name. The food, most from their onsite organic garden, was delicious!! We wish we would have stayed longer, we didn’t even get to do everything we wanted to do in the area. We took advantage of all the complimentary hikes/ garden tours/ etc. all the transportation guides we had were amazing as well. We learned so much on all our drives to different destinations and even 3 hours all the way back to BZE. We can’t wait to go back! Thanks GAIA!

Terrible property managers

The hotel is a terrible idea for any family wanting to stay there. There website is not consistent in stating their policy with regards to children - if they allow 10 years or 16 years of age. On top of this, the property managers are rude and didnt help me and my family with any alternatives at 9pm at night. I will not recommend this property to anyone.

A gem of a hotel and a truly unique experience. Beautiful, quiet, clean and comfortable. The private waterfall / beach is as good as it gets. Lots to explore in the area. Definitely recommend renting a car and driving in so it is easier to get in and out. The staff were awesome, thanks Chris for making our stay very memorable.

The Gaia Riverlodge has no peer for those who want to simply disconnect, relax, and enjoy nature. The environment is mindboggling, the facilities are amazing. And the food and drinks are worth the trip. Surprisingly enough there is a great many interesting things to do in the local area for those who are not content basking in the sun and enjoying the waterfalls with a fresh marguerite. The Riverlodge staff will make you feel like family!

Everyone was extremely accommodating. The personnel that provided the garden tour, birding walk and jungle walk were all very knowledgeable and patient in sharing their knowledge and love for what they do. Kudos to Sam, Calbert and Isael.

The wait staff in the lodge was awesome. The front desk staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

We enjoyed the towel animal creations that a maid created each day..

This resort lacks heart. It's in a nice area and the pics look great but you just don't feel the energy here that you feel at other Jungle lodges in Belize. I've traveled here a bunch. I'd recommend Ian Anderson's, Mystic River and Sleeping Giant over Gaia River Lodge.
