Avoid at all costs.

There was no room service. Lifts took ages to come. Horrible smell coming from the restaurant area all day long...stuffy and smelly. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in the lobby and piles of dust gathering in so called showcases. The fish tank had algae which was easily 2-3 years old. The air-conditioning was badly placed so the main sleeping area didn't get cool while the dressing area was freezing cold. No proper extractor in the bathroom leading to more lingering smells. Location is on a very busy road with 2 petrol pumps within 500yrds of the entrance meaning constantly busy. Rude abrupt staff who seem to find all this very normal and can't see our point at all.

Terrible place to stay, Naples is a ghetto. Extremely small to move around our room. Not very clean. No power to the room when you leave because you need to invert you key Tab into a device. So don't think your laptop is charging when you are out.
This neighborhood is scary for travelers at night, garbage everywhere on the streets in the bins that are over flowing.
Avoid Naples altogether!!!!!

A 10 minute drive by taxi brings you to the hotel. Ask the driver at the airport how much before you leave they can charge more than others. We found both the hotel and the room very clean. The staff are friendly and the roof top terrace is most enjoyable. Make sure to ask for the remote control for the air conditioning and TV.

If road traffic disturbs you then this is not the place for you. I loved being in the city within walking distance to fabulous restaurants and Museum of Archeology.

WORST HOTEL EVER

This hotel is located in a real bad area, garbage and graffiti everywhere . On a main and loud street, there was fireworks at midnight. The staff as non accommodating or friendly, the room where big which is fine, but the beds where SUPER uncomfortable, the mattress super hard, sheets old and rough, pillows on 2 flat an old, the phone of course didn’t work to call for more pillows. The bathrooms moldy and towels old.

Hotels.com drop this hotel . This is the WORST HOTEL hotel I have stay at.

The property was shockingly bad, dirty every thing to floors, furniture, light fixtures, aircon never worked, after Complaining all they did was open the balcony doors which lit in the mosceetos, toilet was not screwed to the floor. I could go on and on. We have stayed in many dozens of hotels over the years and this is one of the worst if not the worst.

This was so disappointing. First, this hotel is NOT a 4 star. It is a 1 star. The staff is very nice, but the hotel needs a complete overhaul and people were smoking in the hallway - that is not acceptable.
I would never recommend this place.

Near to the flagship Napoli museum. Rooms are dated but typical to Italian standards as observed in other Italian hotel. Rooms are big and staff are Friendly. Would definitely recommend if you want a hotel outside of of the tourist trap!

m sure it was a nice hotel once upon a time.

We were given a handicap room when we didn’t need it and other rooms seemed to be available. The bathroom smelled of urine and had a 3/4 roll of toilet paper only. the shower didn’t drain properly and would overflow the basin onto the floor. The shower did have incredible water pressure. The bed was very lumpy and hard. The ac didn’t have the remote to turn it on. The main door would push open if not padlocked. With no ac we were forced to leave the window open over a main road with constant traffic all night and mosquitos.

We were surprised by the food at the hotel restaurant and the wait staff was very friendly. That meal was the best part of our stay.

The hotel was a bit tired the walls in the rooms were scruffy and scuffed some of the furniture was broken and tired. It needs some TLC. saying that the rooms were clean, the sheets as well. Beds made each day and the toilet facilities clean and tidy. Food at breakfast buffet good with lots of choice. Staff friendly. Mostly other Italians staying not British tourists. For the price the hotel is rather good, but if you are looking for a real nice room and luxury its not that, but it's pretty good and value wise outstanding really. Close to airport and close to old city, a good location. I would stay again if I ever go to Naples again.

No tea and coffee facilities in the room. The place was very run down lots of items broken. The hotel is next to a petrol station so the hotel smells of petrol fumes. The breakfast was very poor and lots of meat was off. I would rate this hotel a 1star. The staff was excellent.

If you are looking for 5 star service at a 4 star hotel this is not the place for you. This hotel is in the heart of Naples and it's easily accessible to the bus line and close to the train station, also it is only15 minutes from the airport which is nice when you're looking to get around. This hotel was rated 4 stars when I did the my research but it is more 3 stars because the paint is stripping, the waiting area needs a new couch, and the entry needs a makeover. The building is old which was nice but the shower was extremely small and while it was clear that it was clean, it was not scrubbed so there was aged old dirt on the corners of the shower door. The pillows were a poor excuse and need to be changed and it was loud late at night (which was the fault of other inconsiderate guests not the hotel). The breakfast was okay, nothing to write home about and the picture they show of the hotel looks nothing like that. It does not look as bright and cheery from the outside like the image. Overall, I did like that the hotel was clean, the customer service was okay; not the worst I've had but not close to the best either.

The hotel has a superb location just far enough away from the Central Station to be quiet but a short walk to major attractions like the Archeological Museum. The rooms are simple and comfortable. The public areas are great by boutique hotel standards -- landscaped roof garden with panoramic views and a good perspective for fireworks over the harbor. The TV room and library is very classy. The breakfast was more than generous --unlimited portions from three buffets. Very clean, but almost clean like a hospital. HOWEVER, I would never stay in one of the rooms facing Via Foria because it is the main ambulance route to the central hospital. My room on the other side of the hotel was quiet all the time.

Wonderfully helpful staff: gave directions and help with buses to places we wanted to visit. Buffet breakfast was great. Position of hotel great for walking to major sites. Although we had a room overlooking busy Via Foria the triple shutters were soundproof. Air conditioning was excellent relief from 35 degrees outside

This property is not very well maintained. The bathroom shower door would not close all the way so you had to use your foot while showering to keep it closed. The worse part was the horrific sewage smell coming from the bathroom.

It was a beautiful room and the staff were so totally helpful and welcoming. We found Naples quite difficult, very hot and not many restaurants nearby, so we relied on the hotel for food and space and air conditioning! It turned a stressful holiday into a restful one. Great soundproofing, even on a busy Naples road so we slept well.

We had an early morning flight out of Naples that is why we stayed here. Front desk staff was helpful & pleasant. However, the noise of the guests was horrible! Was woken up many times through the night, fireworks going off, doors slamming, people yelling & laughing, not restful at all.

Nice position but very poor hotel

The position of this old hotel is good however the structure is very poor. The hotel is not 4 stars but 2 in my opinion but you pay a 4 stars city tax. Breakfast is awful, only poor continental food, service is also unfriendly. My room was big but very old and not look after.
The Fire exit on my floor was obstructed at all the time.

Hotel staff was friendly and easy to chat with about the day. Had a Juliette balcony which was awesome, great air conditioning, noise cancelling sets of doors on the balcony, decent breakfast and a very positive atmosphere. Found key places an easy walk so location was great. Would recommend!

Lovely,quaint hotel with real old fashion charm

The Hotel is not close to the city centre, however, the closest metro Piazza Cavour was a good 5-6 min walk. If you wanted to walk to the Station, it would be a good 20 min but as there are roadworks taking place around the station and down Via Carbonara it can take a bit longer.
The hotel itself is very quaint and on the busy via Fori. I did not find the reception staff as friendly or hospitable( maybe an Italian aloofness I'm not accustomed too) but I also did not interact with them much. The guy that waited during the breakfast run was much friendlier, polite and helpful. Breakfast was also good with cereal/ croissants ( called cornetto) and fresh fruit and yoghurt. what more can you ask for
The room I had was cosy and clean and the bathroom had a good shower pressure which is what you require after roaming around all day.
The room was at the back end so I didn't get much traffic noise only loud fireworks that went off the first night Definitely would recommend this hotel if you willing to walk a bit as there isn't much if beyond the hotel to the right unless you wish to see the botanical gardens which are on the road above.

Technically the hotel is nice, charming, spacious rooms and decently clean, it also includes a restaurant, in case you are tired and you want a quick bite, with delicious mozzarella and salads dishes. However, during spring time, the hotel is students's populated from elementary to high grades and it was not easy for me to have a decent sleep. Of course they have to have fun while they are in a trip visiting Naples! I stayed in Naples for work, and I choose this hotel for the strategic position, close to the office where I have to work. But I needed some rest while back in my hotel room and unfortunately that was not possible, with kids running around till late night... It is also not close to the subway, needs a nice 15-20 min walk, which is ok if you are not tired... Be aware they have a parking that charge very hight rates for it.. I may stay there again but not in spring time..

Nice place in a busy neighbourhood.

Enjoyed our stay at Orto Botanico, it comes across as trustworthy on first impressions, and takes up its place in a charmingly busy, crumbly part of Naples. Its staff are regular, earthy people who all aim to serve their guests, and its design is good all round. The breakfast was OK, all standard breakfast stuff, although I was perhaps hoping for a little better on the breakfast coffee.

Location was marvelous , right across from Botanical garden which we enjoyed all morning. Safe street and direct to Archeological Museum also very close walking distance to many churches and important works of art within. Good Napolitani pizza close down the street. I thought property was charming with beautiful stained glass windows in stairwells. Rooftop terrace to get above it all. They called a cab at 3 am for the airport which came promptly and had a set fee of 17 E guaranteed by the hotel. The hotel prepared a breakfast bag for our departure.

Lovely people going through hard times

Staff at the hotel are fine. However they are hamstrung by orders from above to 'save resources', it seems. We needed to ask for small bar of soap, and even a second towel for us as a couple. Breakfast -included is only worthwhile as the food immediately outside is not that good. Hotel is situated in an area that needs urgent upgrade just as the hotel.

Street-food is not that how it is hyped up to be. Then there are fine dinning places available if you know how to find them and get there.

The museum of archaeology not too far from the hotel and churches of all shapes and sizes are hidden preserves of a city in a struggle to keep itself together. Visits to Pompei & mount visuvis and at least a drive along amalfi costs are an escape.

This hotel cannot be rated as a 4-star: It is at maximum 3-star. We booked a superior room , but there were no amenities as expected in a 4-star hotel , such as coffee pot.
Also, it is located in a very busy and noisy street, and since the rooms are not well (sound) insulated, any traffic noise is headed in the room.

The room, breakfast, & location were adequate. The front desk staff ranged from condescending to tepid. Lots of street noise and exhaust. Not great but good enough for a few nights. On check-out though we were charged 30 Euros/per day for parking even though we found this hotel with a \"free parking\" search term on Hotels.com... I suppose this is a complaint for the website too. Furthermore, we were charged for a \"large vehicle\" (small van) even though it took up exactly 1 parking space just like all the other cars in the lot. So basically we got robbed a little on the way out the door. I do not recommend this hotel at all.

Super hotel with easy access to Naples

We arrived at this hotel and were warmly welcomed by Franc, he assured us that we would feel part of a family during our 10 day stay and we did. The staff were amazing, they were warm and friendly and were always happy to offer advice or answer queries. We had booked a double room but were given a much bigger room with a sofa. The room was well equipped with a flat screen TV and bathroom. This hotel is on a busy street and we had a 1st floor room looking onto the street. We could observe Naples or we use the excellent window arrangement to have a quiet air conditioned environment. Breakfast was buffet style, Italian and plentiful. The catering at night was reasonably priced and high quality. The chef, Fabio, is amazing and really made eating there a joy. Although there was a menu he was happy to offer alternatives depending on his ingredients. The 5th floor is an open roof top where you can sit and sip Spritzes and take in the atmosphere of the city below.
We had a brilliant stay at this hotel, we felt relaxed and safe.
It is near an underground station but the reception are happy to call a taxi for you. The city rate from the airport is fair and you should use this rather than the Airport Bus to get to and from the hotel.
On our last day we left our bags with the hotel and visited the nearby Museum of Archeology. They were able to keep our bags secure and organise the taxi to the airport.

Photos can be deceptive

Although checkin wasn't the friendliest, we enjoyed our room at the hotel. It was roomy and comfortable. Nice proximity to the botanical garden. Biggest disappointment was the terrace, which was not at all like the photos and not inviting at all. (And was one of the reasons I chose this hotel.) No white cotton upholstered lounge chairs! Ugly plastic furniture and blazing hot in June. Not a place I would want to hang out. Discounting this, the hotel was okay.

Charming but in a noisy neighbourhood

This is a very charming building and clean hotel.
However, the service at breakfast and qual;its of service is poor and worst of all the hotel is on a very noisy street. Even with a shuttle and curtain the noise from the street was disturbing and this happened all night long and into Sunday morning.

The hotel was right off busy street, with 3 layers of window, you can hear siren in the morning. It recommends the hotel chef but he was always at front entrance idle at dinner time. The fridge was there but not working. So we were given a bucket of ice the first night and that was it.

It was located on the down side of the nice area, so very kaotic, dirty and messy.

Buffet is nice and convenient. The buffet staff are very nice. Close to Metro.

A sanctuary in the madness of Naples

We arrived into Naples after a few days driving in and around Amalfi. The traffic is crazy busy and the roads in an appalling state - no wonder they sell you tyre insurance at the car rental! But amidst all the madness is the Del Real Orto Botanico - a complete find of a hotel. The staff are fantastic - very friendly, helpful and approachable. The room we had was plenty big for 3 people with all the necessary amenities - Wi-Fi, safe, TV and hairdryer in bathroom. Essentially there was secure parking we could use. We ate in the hotel with the chef making a personal appearance to talk us through what was on offer. The decoration was very stylish too. A really lovely place to stay.

Stay Here and Be Well Cared For

We had an extremely good experience at this hotel on a long weekend in Naples and would recommend it to anyone. We found it clean and comfortable with surprising amenities that include a nice bar just off the lobby and a rooftop restaurant. The hotel is on a busy street, but we had no problems with noise or too much light since our room was equipped with windows with very thick panes (maybe not completely soundproof but almost) and blackout curtains that blocked all the light. This is a very convenient place to stay if you have limited time and want to visit Naples's famous Archaeological Museum since museum is just a medium-long walk or a very short bus ride away from the museum. The hotel staff also deserves special mention for their helpfulness. On our first evening in Naples, I hurt my knee and needed to apply ice to it twice a day. The hotel was kind enough to supply me with ice every day even though they had barely enough for their own needs and the staff provided it within seconds of being asked.

Area is older section of Naples and while walking to restaurants and activities is okay, the locations are somewhat remote. Bus service is across the street. Extra charges for parking. Dining room convenient, and food just okay - nothing special. Breakfast included and the usual fare.

hotel got us a taxi back to airport-- half the price we paid coming in!--so watch the airport taxis on arrival as it should be no more than 25 Euro

Not the nicest area ...

This hotel is rather isolated, and I wished I had stayed closer to the old town. My room was small, quite noisy with air conditioning turning on and off all night, difficult to sleep. Naples is a tricky town though, looks very grubby if you are used to living where waste/garbage is collected on a reliable and regular basis ..

Well located hotel

The Hotel Del Real Orto Botanica was ideally situated for us - we could walk to the main railway station to catch trains to Herculaneum and Pompeii and we could walk to the Molo Beverello to catch the hydrofoil to Capri. The area is on the edge of the historic centre and so we could walk to the sights we wanted to see there and to the National Archaeological Museum.

Arrived on New Years Eve when every apartment was setting off fireworks as soon as darkness fell and until well after midnight. Impressive.

Well situated

Hotel is close to the centre of Naples with good metro connections. We found the hotel to be comfortable and clean with a good inclusive breakfast. It was a good base. Eateries were a bit lacking in the vicinity, however.

Disappointing - perhaps we were unlucky.

Air conditioning is essential in temperatures of 35 degrees but after two attempts to fix (and assurances it was working) we spent a sleepless, uncomfortable night. In the morning there was little sympathy or offer of compensation. Enough said...

Great base.

Friendly welcome by staff and very helpful with luggage when we got there quite late in the evening after a long journey. Breakfast room had a lovely setting and good service. Hot breakfasts would be a definite improvement though. Bed extremely comfortable and despite the room being on a main road with high volume of traffic this did not cause problems as it was well protected from the noise with double shutters and double glazing. Satellite television would be welcome. As far as location is concerned, I don't know what we expected but I think we thought we would be nearer the sea (and consequently have better air quality) and that the surrounding area would be slightly more upmarket. Having said that as the week went on we started to accept the environment as part of the charm as Naples is obviously a very old city with streets and buildings intact from way back. What an improvement it would be though if some money was spent on renovation, upkeep and maintenance.

Overall I would say the hotel is suitable for young and old as well as families.

Fine for a real Naples experience

Hotel is ok just not 4 star. It's quite far from transport so that was a bit of a pain. Worth having a look at the botanical gardens. Gardens are Peaceful considering the mayhem of Naples! When the windows were open in our room the noise from the street was intense but amazingly once they were shut it was really almost quiet. This is a great hotel for the flavour of Naples which we loved but praps not for the faint hearted. Herculaneum and Pompeii and archaeological museum all mind blowing.

Good value - clean, large rooms

Hotel is good value. The room and bathroom were large. My kids slept on the sofa bed and said it was horribly lumpy and had sofa folds in the matress. Our bed was fine. Breakfast had good variety and was fresh. The train station is a 25 minute somewhat convoluted walk. WIFI wasn't working.

The only reason we chose it was its location, close to the airport. The neighbourhood is kind of scary, and Naples itself we found dirty and unfriendly, but we only stayed one night so maybe that's unfair to say. Close (15 minute walk) to an interesting alley-way market which was kind of neat. We didn't explore too much as we didn't feel comfortable on the streets. The air-conditioner/fan didn't seem to work but the traffic was very loud so we slept with the window shut. Staff not particularly friendly. Wouldn't stay there again.

24 hours too long in Naples

Just a very ordinary hotel that may have earned its 4 star rating in 1972. Now very much 3 star. I got a very good room rate, so can't complain too much. My advice is to avoid Naples altogether if you can. Or if you have to stay, make it short and get a hotel by the waterfront.

Excellent value for money - formal but pleasant service - decent breakfast and plenty of it. Large and comfortble room - decent shower room facilities and lots of hot water - hotel has done a lot to help cut out street noise. This is our second visit and would go back again.

The hotel was in a very, very busy, dirty, scary neighborhood, and for the money it cost I would sure have expected something a little better, at least not so scary. The air conditioning worked one night, but not the other, and you certainly could not have slept with the window open, for safety and because of the extreme noise just outside the window. If this is a 4 star hotel, then I would sure hate to think about staying at anything less than that. I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel to anyone! Very disappointing.

great for a night's stay before the airport (15 euro taxi)

This hotel turned out to be a gem. The front desk was very helpful. The room was large and comfortable with a really good shower in the bath. They had a nice small bar with moderate prices. We did not have breakfast because we checked out at 5am to catch our plane. We did have lunch and supper at the restaurant 1/2 block to the left, and both meals were wonderful. This was our only time in Naples after staying in Sorrento for a week, so we were quite happy to have a positive experience.

We were able to comfortably walk to the historical centre and easily access the sites we wanted to see in Naples. The rooms are spacious and ours was sound proofed with views over the gardens oposite. Great value.

Value for money, but probably 3-star

The hotel is a bit past it's best and it's certainly not for those who wish to indulge or expect luxury. It's a basic hotel with basic facilities. I certainly wouldn't class it as a four-star...
However, it is great value for money. If you can overlook the noisy and dirty area, just walk for 10 minutes to get to the centro storico and the more touristic parts of the city.
The rooms were basic, but clean and tidy. The staff were friendly enough, although hardly the most professional, but they were very helpful when we had any questions.
It's a slightly more easy-going establishment than most I've stayed in, but I'm used to hostels, so this doesn't bother me, but it might bother some. To be honest, though, it's pretty much the Napolian attitude!! It's a small, family-run business, so don't expect hotel-chain niceties and efficiency.
I really liked the place, but I can see how others would be taken a bit by surprise.

Not good part of Naples

When I booked last minute, it took at least 10 minutes for the staff to find the reservation. Then we finally got our keys and realized one room was smaller than the other but the same price. I felt a wierd vibe from the desk clerk. The hotel was clean, and quiet, eerily quiet. You had to at least invest 10-15 minutes just to figure out the AC and TV.
The hotel is located literally in the middle of the unkept part of town. It only is near one decent restaurant and the othe pizzeria. It looks like it is owned by a family and tehy argued for at least 15 minutes and our food wasnt done right and the service was just terrible. I was so disappointed by my last night in Italy which is the only reason i booked the hotel. In any case, i would spring another 100 bucks just to stay in a 5 star hotel.

Definetly not a 4* hotel. Both, breakfast and service in general were poor. Apart from one of the guys from reception, mostly the staff was almost rude. Don't expect them to say 'Good Morning' to you.

It is across the road from the beautiful Botanic Gardens...

Past its heyday - but friendly service. Rooms were very quiet considering its on a main road. Its fine if you want to stay a night or two and get to the airport which is only 20 minutes away.It is a bit gloomy in the public areas upstairs and the corridors are not that clean. The rooms could also do with a good deep clean, though bathroom spotless. Air conditioning broke down, but was fixed promptly. Nice fresh linen. Nice terrace on roof. Breakfast basic but ok.BIG PLUS was the restaurant just a few doors away called 'A Figlia do Marenaro' which is the best seafood restaurant ever. Get there early (7.30ish)for a table - the whole of Naples goes there to eat.

Reasonably clean and neat, but not necessarily convenient

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were very good. The room was large and reasonably comfortable. Now that I know my way around Naples, I will feel more comfortable staying there in the future. It is a fairly long walk to either the train station or the Naples port.
