We prepayed for four nights, but upon checking in we noticed that the rooms were
actually going for about half. Especially given the worn and dirty room we were given (old toothpaste splatter on the mirror, walls, etc.), I raised the issue.
A certain front desk individual immediately challenged me asking for evidence (easily found online) and then cynically explained that it was just too bad. I then asked for the general manager but the person claimed that he was the manager. I insisted and the GM appeared - he was professional and immediately moved us to a much better room, which was appreciated given the whole ordeal.
Pricing issues aside, such passive-aggressive behavior and lack of client focus from
staff would never occur at a top tier hotel. In contrast, The GM and the rest of the staff were really solid, but the problem individual should not be allowed in front of clients or to train other staff.
I should also mention that the breakfast staff were friendly and responsive although we noticed that the pastry (pear cake, etc.) was old, dry and depressingly redisplayed for the entirety of the three days we ate there.

Hotel was spotless, staff were amazing and accommodating to every need, location was perfect. Bed was super comfortable with a nice range of pillows. Restaurant was visually appealing, food was delicious although we never had breakfast, only dinner. Really appreciated FREE e-bike rental to explore the city. Organised taxi for us to airport, with pick up on time and outside the front door. Decor in the hotel was sublime.

Avoid the breakfast! 35 euros per person for nothing special.

Had a little bit of a weird start with them being overly aggressive asking for an updated form of payment. However it seems it might’ve been a miscommunication.

Staff is excellent, staff at the bar/ restaurant downstairs is excellent. Location is amazing and in the heart of Bologna. Rooms are nice and clean. Overall one of the best hotel experiences I had and would absolutely stay there again.

The hotel’s location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the city, next to Piazza Maggiore, and surrounded by plenty of great coffee shops and restaurants. The property itself is spotless and tastefully decorated in classic Italian style, which adds a lot of charm.

However, we had a few disappointments:

- The room was quite compact. For the price and the hotel’s 4-star rating, we expected something a bit more spacious and comfortable.
- Despite informing the hotel several times that our stay was part of a 40th birthday and babymoon celebration, there were no special touches—no welcome note, gift, platter, or even a small gesture. During our two-week trip through Italy, staying at 4- and 5-star hotels in Sicily, Bologna, Florence, and Rome, this was the only property that did nothing to make the occasion feel special.
- The shower lacks a curtain or partition, so water ends up all over the floor—an annoying and easily fixable issue.

In summary: great location and clean, charming décor, but the lack of attention to detail and comfort made the experience feel less than expected for a 4-star stay.

The property is beautiful, specifically the landscaping. The flora, trees, and plants add a beauty to the property. The staff is friendly, professional, and courteous. They gave us a late check out without any issues. The pool is spacious. They have a tennis court. I look forward to coming back.

This is a lovely hotel in the historic district. Major sights are within walking distance, and the area offers numerous dining options, Trattoria del Buon Tempo among the best. The staff is professional, yet friendly, and extremely helpful.
If I travel to Bologna again, I will definitely stay here.

Unfortunately, on the first night of my stay the hotel hosted a private event at night in the breakfast/dining area that went past midnight and the thumping of music could be heard above in most guest room areas. Many guests were furious the next morning and the hotel disclaimed responsibility, claiming that the restaurant is under separate management. For this level of hotel, a guest deserves a quiet stay. I have been a guest at Corona D'Oro in the past but will look elsewhere next time.

The staff were friendly and accommodating. Mary from Sicily was a super star. The cuisine in the hotel is average. Menu items very salty and not enjoyable. Prefer tableclothes on tables for dinner service. Dining room in general needs upgrading. Ivan, the new manager, seems to be the person with the knowledge and experience to make this happen. Overall I would return to this hotel. I was disappointed to see a beautiful city ruined by graffiti.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Hotel Corona d'Oro. The location is excellent and the property itself is even better. We stayed in the suite and it was absolutely perfect. We were given a tour by the manager, who was just the loveliest. Was truly impressed with the room and the amenities within it. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Disappointing response

The hotel is in a fantastic location and the room was very comfortable.
Unfortunately we had a cold shower on both days we were there. I reported it after the first day and was told maybe it was due to lots of people using the shower at the same time.

It was clear to us that the mixer valve was broken as there was hot water in the basin tap and moving the mixer valve made no difference to the temperature.

At check out I was told no one else had complained so they didn’t believe me there was a problem. They didn’t offer any compensation until as asked and then they gave be 10% off one of the nights - clearly a sign they didn’t believe me.
Shame as the hotel itself is nice and the girl who checked us in couldn’t have been more helpful.
Coffee at the bar next door to the hotel was amazing.

Bologna is a lot more touristy than most reviews would lead you to believe. Weekends and evenings are hectic.

The hotel is in a fairly tourist friendly area. The staff are good and the hotel is exactly what it claims to be, a good four star hotel.

Rooms are a little more traditional Italian in style but well furnished

The shower and bathroom are very clean but the water pressure is not fantastic.

A couple of great places nearby to eat and easy walking distance to almost everything in the Centro

The street to the hotel was closed off the day we arrived but the driver from the airport called the hotel and they sent a porter to take our bags to the hotel. That was our introduction to the personal service you received at the hotel. We asked the front desk people to recommend restaurants and make reservations and we were always happy with the choices. We also dined one night at the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent. We thought the cleaning staff were particularly good. The room was comfortable (although an elevator and two sets of stairs to get to it -- not a problem but speak up if it won't work for you). The hotel is walking distance to just about everything of interest except San Luca but it is close to the San Luca Express. Altogether we were very happy with our stay there.

This hotel is an absolute gem. Everything was perfect. The location, our host Frederica, the beautiful breakfast all ready when you walked out of your room, the self serve bar cart in the beautiful open space. I could name so many other aspects that were just perfection. This was one of my most favourite hotels in Tuscany. Tiny bit tricky to find, but if you follow the directions to a tee, you’ll see a flagpole on the building. Stop the car.. go inside and Frederica will help you go park. It’s worth the little bit of effort. I can’t recommend this hotel enough.

Hotel Corona d'Oro was amazing when you walk into the lobby it was like WOW just beautiful. Luggage was taken when my room was ready the lady from the front desk escorted me to my room showed me around then my suitcase was delivered. The hotel was a home at one time with 40 rooms you can picture parties of the nobles there. You are in walking distance of the major attractions very quiet. Great breakfast love the custard filled croissant disappointed it was there on the day I left but will remember it. Thank you for a wonderful stay in your beautiful city.

The hotel was very nice and in an amazing location, in the center of town, right next to the Quadrilatero area with lots of shops and restaurants, and only a 10-minute walk to the train station. The Classic Double Room, which was very nicely decorated, was quite small, with very little room to open bags and suitcases. Although the room was on the first floor, it was a few steps down and a maze of hallways away from the main lobby. The view was of the nearby building's wall, and the bathroom was small, with a tiny cylindrical shower stall. Overall, we found the cost to be very expensive for what we got. It was definitely not a good value.
