Ice maker inop. TV inop (actually, the TV was fine, but there were no stations). Couldn't receive WiFi in the room (though we could receive the WiFi from the Holiday Inn nearby). Broken toilet paper holder. Nowhere to hang a towel—I mean nowhere: no bar, no hook, anywhere in the bathroom or room. Ended up draping it over the TV, which was otherwise useless.

On the other hand, the staff was super nice, and the courtyard was a nice place to hang out and have a drink when we arrived around midnight. The room's A/C was good and the beds comfortable.

Very large, clean room. Staff was extremely kind and helpful. Very interesting history behind the two townhomes that were connected to make this hotel. Wish there had been a fridge and microwave in the room. Bar was not open since the season had not started yet, although we stayed just days before Memorial Day weekend. Great location, very walkable and safe. Would certainly stay again.

The overall state was good. The place itself is a little bit old and dated, but that’s why I went there in the first place I kind of want it more of a personal homestyle feeling. I did have an issue with my first room, but the staff resolved it and move me to a different room and the other room was much better. My biggest complaint would be the TVs. They’re so small like 24 inch and something is wrong with the picture where the aspect ratio is even smaller than a 24 inch screen that is on. It’s almost equivalent to watching something bigger than an iPad. But that’s my biggest complaint.

Amazing and like a step back in time and was easy to disconnect from the real world. Cable wasn’t working in my room, but just needed to update the cable box. Heather, was so nice and filled me in on the history. What began as a stay due to location and pricing for a work trip, will now be a go-to for future trips both personal and business

The staff at this hotel bent over backwards to help us with room changes and to ensure our stay was as comfortable as could be. The weather was terrible when we arrived, with heavy rain and flooding in the area. The staff assisted us with a room change that greatly helped us to be much more comfortable, and everyone was friendly, kind, and helpful. We would happily stay here again.

We had such a nice time staying at the Malaga over the weekend. It’s not perfect, but it’s a gem for folks that aren’t too picky and like a little adventure. It is old-real keys for the doors, creaky staircases. The courtyard and the water fountain in the center are beautiful and the sound of the water flowing adds to the calming atmosphere.
It is very convenient to everything downtown-bars, restaurants, nightclubs and I felt very safe walking at night. Parking is free on site.
The energy is great there, almost magical. Brian at the front desk made himself very available and was eager to help. Ice machine wasn’t working-Brian brought us ice. Elevator not working, Brian offered to carry our bags up the stairs. We couldn’t figure out the remote, Brian to the rescue! So helpful!
We were a little concerned about the water temp until we figured out that the handle was reversed and hot is cold and cold is hot. Water pressure good. Clean sheets and towels. The air conditioner works great! Couldn’t hear sounds from other rooms. I really hope we get another chance to stay there again!

Very walkable property to the downtown. Parking convenient. Room was dated and not serviced until we left, so after 4 days trash and dirty linens were piled. Life machine didn’t work, no fridge, tv didn’t work, lighting was poor. Dated and tired room that needed refreshed.

This is a lovely old, historical hotel centrally.located near downtown. Our room was large , airy, & bright. Bed was comfy & nice modern shower & bath. Loved the little courtyard with the fountain. Perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. BYOB as there is no bar or restaurant on sight but just blocks from many options. Wonderful staff, easy, quick checkin, ample parking. We did not encounter any ghosts. Very enjoyable!

Could be cleaner, our room still had dirty towels and cleaning supplies left it like the housekeepers started our room and got sidetracked. Some fresh coffee in the lobby shouldn’t be difficult to keep for the guest but that was sketchy too.

AC vent and surrounding wall were both covered in black mold. Room was generally dusty. Two of the windows in the room had aluminum foil covering damaged wind panes. Windows were dirty. The toilet paper holder was broken out of the wall and only partially repaired. The elevator was non functioning.

Plenty of parking the lady running the counter was all over the place taking care of things she apologized for the wait we had, and she took care of quickly (showed us where our room was and said if the key sticks she would help us! The property is beautiful (its older and has the creepy creeks) but it was safe and quiet! Ac worked wonderfully! 2 thumbs up

Old historic facility, beautiful courtyard, but facility itself needs uprating painting. A little remodeling would help elevator wasn’t working made it very difficult for us to take luggage up three flights to stairs to the third floor. Staff was very friendly.

The person at the desk was super helpful. The ice machine was broken so he got us some ice. The elevator was broken and being seniors and women he carried our 50lb suitcases up to floor 3. I don’t know what we would have done if he hadn’t helped us. It is an old building so can use some repairs but otherwise not bad. I would stay there again if tge elevator worked.

The staff was unreliable, unprofessional and made no attempt to apologize or make up for their errors. We were locked out of the front doors for over an hour during the night because their over night staff was irresponsible. My in person, phone and email attempts to report and correct the problem have all been ignored.

Our stay was great. The hotel is definitely older. The decks are creaky, the fixtures are older, but they are maintaining everything pretty well. It’s pretty and the courtyard area is nice to walk through. Parking is simple and the location is really nice. We would definitely stay here again.

Charming small Hotel but needs renovations. Construction noise behind the Hotel was bothersome but not associated with the Hotel. Convenient to downtown Mobile. Lovely area. We didn’t know much about Mobile but it is a hidden gem of a city.

Very disappointed. There was used soap in the bathroom. A huge hole under the facet. I would shower due to the possibility of a bug coming out. All the amenities for coffee yet no coffee pot. Beautiful and historic but I would not recommend.

Lovely historic property in downtown Mobile so the location is great. Recently updated room, very clean, nice quality linens. Unfortunately my room had no hot water at all. Water pressure was awesome, just very cold. I left hot water valve open for a while, hoping for at least Luke warm - nope, just cold water.

A great place to stay. Larger hotel chains may provide more amenities during a stay, but they can't beat Malaga's charm. The historic property has clearly been carefully cared for over the decades. Its incredible courtyard setting perfect for quiet time away from the activity of the city. It's within easy walking distance of all the downtown Mobile sites and restaurants. To top it off, the staff are all friendly and eager to help make sure your stay is a good one. Malaga is a unique hotel and should stand out in downtown Mobile.

Excellent adjacent Parking. The hotel is historic and has a lot of charm, but of course that does lead to some maintenance issues.. there is a courtyard that loses the Sun by 5 pm. We had trouble having two showers and getting hot water.. there was limited lighting in the bedrooms. However, it was still a good hotel with the location two blocks away from Dolphin Street.

The elevator did not work, the ice machine did not work, one of the two keys to the room did not work and the tv remote was low on battery. I likely would have left this to myself but a neighbor was up to 3:00 am and then back up at 7:00 am making noise in front of our room and playing the piano at 7:45 am keeping us awake. The place is in a great area and the parking lot was very helpful.

We came in and dropped our luggage off. The person at front desk barely spoke to us, but did let us leave our luggage behind front desk.

We came back to check in (at check in time) and the ft desk said he would have to call and see if our room was ready. After a few minutes said was ok to go to room. Told us where stairs were. Elevator was advertised, but must have been broken. We asked for help to get luggage up stairs and he helped us.

The maid was not finished with our room, so she came in and vacuumed. Brought us towels, but said washcloths and hand towels were jn dryer. She would bring them when they were ready. They never were brought to room. We couldnt call front desk as there isnt a phone in the room. So had to go find someone to get them. No one at ft desk. A what appeared to be a maintenance man helped us.

The morning we left went downstairs to try and get help with luggage. No one at front desk. Had to struggle with the luggage ourself. Was steep staircase with skinny stairs and a curve at top. It was not easy.

Three minutes after check out deadline two people miraculously appeared at front desk. There was a bowl to put your key in. No offer for a receipt or anything else.

No kleenex in room, no trash can in bathroom. The two of us together couldn't open the window necessary to get out to advertised balcony.

All in all horrible experience.

We had a lovely stay at the Malaga Inn. We stayed in the older original part of the hotel. I can imagine this hotel was quite the place in its heyday! Although some little places are showing their age, we could not fault our stay. The beds were very comfortable, large rooms with beautiful antiques. The courtyard is beautiful with its fountain and abundance of foliage and plants, a peaceful, relaxing area to sit and drink coffee in the morning.
The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the history of the Inn. Plenty of parking and a quiet area. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Mobile!

Had hoped for a quaint, downtown property with some old charm. I guess the price point should have been an indicator of the hotel’s quality. Stained and worn out furniture, musky smells, make shift A/C, lack of electrical plugs, baseboards partially ripped out in bathroom. The property has so much potential, but it appears that the failure of upkeep will prevent it from becoming a truly good hotel experience. Staff was polite.

We checked in, and immediately left to stay at a different hotel.

Loved the stay. Dont expect many amenities. 5 minute walk to to restaurants, bars, and attractions. For breakfast, the Ruby Slipper has the best french toast ive ever had, and the Loda Bier Garten is cool spot for a beer and a burger. I had the Rueben and it was amazing. The hotel is old, but its quiet and comfortable. The whole neighborhood was quiet, even on a Saturday night, only steps from all the nightlife on Dauphin. If you are like history, you will love the stay, and it never hurts to do a little research first.

The charm of the hotel architecturally is its strong suit and being close and walkable to downtown - unfortunately that’s where the positive review ends. The elevator was not working and it was a tough walking to the second floor - was staying 5 nights and a first floor room was never available. The room was clean but the bathroom a wreak - no toilet paper holder - it looked as if it had been ripped from wall - no place to hang towels and the plastic shower curtain kept falling down as the spring rod seemed gone. The heat and air was temperamental. No refrigeration so had to keep filling my cooler with ice. And this was not hotels fault but the building of the new civic center directly across the street meant every morning at 630am construction noise even on SAT.

Our room was in the historic section. The staff was amazing! The most friendly, helpful people I have ever encountered. The kind woman at the front desk went so far as to call her daughter for a recommendation for a vegetarian restaurant for me! Many restaurants within walking distance. Parking is sufficient.
The courtyard is delightful. Spring cleanup has been delayed by recent cold weather. Chairs and tables invite guests to pause and enjoy the tumbling water in the fountain and the warm sunshine.
The Spanish Park and the Carnival Museum are just down the street.

Another couple checking in got there room at 130 check in was 3 I got there at 2 and sat down then some of our other party showed up so we were just sitting there and a lady came and ask us if we have been helped and we just said not yet but we are early. The first room they gave us had a bad smell because the air did not work. The tv did not work. They put us in a different room that had no air, sink did not drain, and we found rat feces in the bed. Rooms were terrible. I requested compensation for the poor quality.

The hotel is a pretty building with a nice internal courtyard, good atmosphere, excellent, secure parking, and an unbeatable downtown location. However I stayed in once of the \"courtyard\" rooms, which seem to be the lowest prices, and found it distinctly lacking in comfort. No fridge/microwave (which I wouldn't have expected in a hotel like this), no desk, no comfortable seating, very soft bed, and effectively no surfaces to put things. If you are spending time in one of these rooms, you're not likely to be very comfortable. (In fairness, perhaps the idea -- if you're spending time in the hotel -- is to use the courtyard. And yet . . . sometimes you want to be in your room.)

My only issue is check-in was a 3pm we arrive around 3:45pm and our room we reserved weeks ago was not ready. 10- 15 minute wait was still a little inconvenient after a 10 hour drive from southwest florida. We waited about 30 minutes while 2 other guests who came in after us got checked in. I dont understand why it was not cleaned if check in is at 3?

Room and bathroom were very clean, staff was extremely courteous. The only reason I didn't give five stars was because a guest in a room near ours closed doors VERY loudly until 1 or 2 am. I would have appreciated being told where and when the continental breakfast was served that is listed on the hotel in-room amenities guide. The hotel and grounds are really beautiful.

Absolutely loved this hotel! It’s a cool historic building and has been a family-owned hotel since the 60s, which I didn’t know prior to booking but really appreciate. There’s a free open parking lot adjacent to the building, which is so convenient and unusual these days. Loved sitting in the lovely courtyard and meeting other travelers. The bed was very comfy and room was nice and clean. My only suggestion for improvement would be to have a mini fridge (and ideally a microwave as well) in each room. I had to throw away some leftovers because there was nowhere to store them. Regardless, I enjoyed my stay and would 100% return

Definitely one of the best places we have stayed at. I would 100% recommend this place as we can’t wait to go back. Amazing staff, clean room, overall best experience. The owner is just as helpful and has great hospitality. You won’t regret staying here!!!
