Air conditioner in a room was so loud and was jumping in every 10 minutes. Horrible
Wednesday dinner at la Pagoda restaurant shrimp with garlic sauce gave me food poisoning. Its Saturday and im still sick.

5 star experience! We went to Barcelo Maya Beach last year and felt that the Iberostar resort was better in almost every aspect! The staff was great. Tomas with the entertainment staff was fantastic! Our son (8) looked forward to seeing him each day. The food was great. Our room was great. We would definitely return to this resort in the future!

Property was pretty clean for being a busy resort. Food choices were decent although the few restaurants onsite that require reservations, definitely need to make in advance before you arrive. Staff is friendly and the drinks were good. Close to the beach and great swimming areas. Pools were nice and the onsite entertainment was fun.

Food was only ok, also had a few get sick while we were there. Plus had an issue with booking through expedia and having a clear description of the age for a child, the confirmation email was even worse that mad it sound like a kid was an extra item with no guarantee they could stay with you on the same property. Then the cuatomer service was just a run around after the fact showing the issue how expedia was not updating the price correctly on its site. The staff, were very nice, and the resort was clean, the beach had some rocks in the water which kinda sucked and dangerous. Overall it was good but not great.

Room was cleaned every day and beverages was restocked. Rooms were a little dated, shower was small and did not have the shorter shower only rain shower. The view was not great. Pool was big but could of been heated a little. Activities were good at the pool. Lazy river was freezing not relaxful. Definitely a resort for families geared towards kids. Food was mediocre not great at all definitely have had better but good enough to eat. Star cafe was great for snacks and coffee. I loved all the animals and the mayan culture designs throughout the property. Nightly entertainment was okay loved the circus show.

* Incredible facilities. Well maintained, clean, and visually spectacular to the Maya theme.

* No reason to leave the resort: Great diversity of restaurants, planned activities, and things to do between the theatre, play areas for kids pool, spa, sports bars, and beach.

* Very well integrated with nature and fantastic commitment to sustainability. You can see lots of peacocks and coati's walking around. No plastic bottles, and good conservation practices.

* Genuinely helpful staff who try to make sure your experience meets your expectations with all the powers available to them. Special mention to Sara, Maria, and Yomira who worked with me to resolve all challenges. They were really great!

*Rooms are spacious, clean and have lots of amenities including free mini-bar (restocked once per day), hot/cold water, ironing board, and air conditioning. Laundry Service and room service available for small fees.

CONS:
* The Iberostar App is a key tool used for navigation and loading your hotel credits. For the duration of my stay, it didn't work as it was supposed to. Concierge needed to give me manual coupons to compensate for the app not loading the discount codes.

* Questionable scheduling for Expedia exclusive benefits. The complementary bottle of wine that came with this package was delivered on the evening of day 4 of our 5-day trip, despite me asking for it since checking-in. Make sure to request it be available upon arrival when checking in to avoid this issue.

We stayed at the Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites from October 6 thru October 11th. We were a group of 10 people and we all enjoyed our stay at this resort. The rooms, pools, and restaurants were all clean. We really enjoyed the variety of food options at their buffet and thought the food was great. As big coffee drinkers we thought the coffee was okay. The kids had a blast at the kids pool and the beach, and our 11 year old also had fun in the water slides. Our mini fridge was always full and restocked with drinks. The resort has GREAT views and many good places to take family pictures at. The drinks were okay, but they were never high quality, they do offer high quality liquor though. We attended their shows everyday and thought they were great, we liked that guests participated.

The only concerning things here was the service from their employees, although the resort was not even so packed, some of their employees had attitudes, would rush you to order, and were not very attentive, which is something uncommon at other resorts. Also be aware that they will try to sit down and have breakfast with you, this is all a scheme to convince you to buy their membership or time share. Be aware that this resort is about 25 minutes from Cancun and Playa del Carmen, so be prepared to spend a good amount for the taxi.

Overall we had a great time, we would definitely come back to this resort with the hope that their staff is more attentive towards their guests.

From the time you arrive through the gates until you leave, you're taken care of. All you have to do is relax and have fun. Lots of activities everyday. So many pools to keep cool. The beaches are great! The staff is very friendly. There's all types of food, you can eat your favorites for every meal. The rooms are comfortable, cleaned everyday and great air conditioning. I can't wait to return, i miss it already!

The coati were everywhere on the beach. They will go into your tote and pull things out. Literally will lock the cups you drink out of. Staff does best to cleanup right away but a lot of coati. Rocks/coral in the water. If you’re looking to swim in the ocean look where people are clustered together no rocks there.

The vibes are great and they mixed the property with nature so well. Great pools and beach access but the rooms are a bit old and crumbling. Food is horrible and room service took at least an hour after ordering. Only place with a half-decent food was the steakhouse.
Worst part was the concierge service. When I asked about the $400 voucher I should receive from Expedia, they tried to get me into one of their sales pitch presentations to get a $450 worth of spa credit. After I declined, they gave me the $400 in 16 vouchers that are $25 off $100 which cannot be combined together. So practically I have to spend $1,600 at the resort to get the $400. Definitely not coming back to this resort!

We did a lot of research looking for a resort that was big enough to have lots of food options and things to do. This resort did not disappoint. Everything was really great. The staff there are really great people and so friendly ALL the time. Pools were clean, food was really good. Service was excellent (except the sit down restaurants) those took a bit to get your drinks or more drinks but buffets were really good. The seaweed was pretty strong when we were there but we never had to wait for a drink, either at the bar or someone always came by to serve us. (Don't forget to tip) We would for sure go here again and bring friends and family. Great experience.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good stay, but this was not the hotel‘s fault. I went as a solo traveler, which was a bad idea. Given this is a family resort. I thought I could find some quiet, but I couldn’t and they even put me in a room across the waterpark. I tried to get a refund on the extra day because I went home early and they wouldn’t do it, but I understand. I highly recommend this place for families, though, it looks like a blast! And the food was incredible!

The overall experience of the resort was great. Pool beaches and performances were all spectacular. The only bad thing we all said was the booking of the restaurants. We tried to book restaurants on the app and in person and it wasn't working and no one told us that we should do it right away when we get to the resort.

Nuestro cuarto estaba sucio los espejos no los limpiaban por más de un mes podías ver la tierra en los vidrios,todos los pasillos de las habitaciones llenos de platos sucios vasos por días nadie los recogía y los pasillos en toda la semana nunca se barrieron ni trapearon y se veían negros de mugre y muy sucios solo el lobby estaba limpio cada vez hay menos limpieza en estos hoteles y eso es lo que enferma a las personas por eso hay tanta bacteria

Large centipedes in the room(we understand it’s an island environment) they wouldn’t or couldn’t move us, but fumigated our room while we were there. No VIP Expedia recognition. Had to pay out of pocket almost $400USD from the jewelry store on property as they wouldn’t let us use the entire credit there after being told by the concierge at 62/63 and jewelry shop attendant. We’ve stayed many times at Iberostar, first and last time at Maya!

I read a lot of reviews before booking so to set the record straight: this hotel is massive and excellent for families; the app does work great; the food is outstanding; the push for timeshare is real but I said no politely once and they left me alone; there is a map of the property in the app and you need it; there are so many restaurants and the buffet options are so outstanding and varied than not being able to make reservations for a family of 4 was a non-issue.
Size aside, this hotel is truly a gem: the pools, the water park, the activities, the food, the service, the attention to details, the cleanliness and the consistent friendliness of the employees made for a very special trip.
The down sides were only the choppy ocean and seaweeds when we were there (can’t control that and the hotel removes seaweeds every morning) and the $45 sunscreen (just pack your own). The night entertainment was okay but the fire shows truly stood out.
Other than that, huge kudos for running such a large place with taste and care - and again, for the food alone, this stay was amazing. Will gladly return!

The reason for my 3 star review is due to the false marketing--it's 4.5 star rating that it promotes must be self appointed as anyone who has stayed at 5 star can see that this is no higher than a 4. To use the word luxury only applies to a few select spaces around the resort, so it is misleading to use that term to the resort as a whole. The resort is clean, a good beach, and a lot to do, so if that is your goal this is perfect. Food was mediocre, and getting reservations is a joke if you want an actual regular meal time (not at 5 or 9) Regular meal times are mainly reserved for their premium upcharge and people who agree to their timeshare pitch. It touts a lot of restaurants, but near the pool the breakfast closes early (10), and lunch doesn't open until 1. The timeshare pitch is really too much. The concierge really pressured us to do it, we kept saying no, she said she'd pencil us in and we could play it by ear. When we didn't show, she called, came to our room, and even said that her job performance depended on us attending. We felt badly for her, and don't feel it's fair to either the hardworking employees or the paying guests to put that type of pressure on the pitch. The fight for pool chairs was silly, the beach was not an issue as it was red flag windy our entire stay so the majority of the guests were not on it for long. We had the power and ac go out in our room multiple times, although they were quick to come and fix.

I have stayed at the Iberostar Maya suites many times. This was my sixth time so obviously I continue to come back. The resort is beautiful and always clean. Most staff was amazing. We had a couple issues with the girls at the Star coffee shop both at the Lindo resort and at the Maya resort, young girls that were just a bit rude. The staff at the Maya lobby, including Raul and Kevin were awesome! For the most part, the food was good. The buffet at the Maya, (which is new) the seafood was incredible. Lots of lobster! The chef there was very nice. He came out and spoke to us. I believe his name was Oscar. The Mexican Restaurant that we were waiting to be seated at as we looked over the menu, It was definitely not an impressive menu. I’m very glad we did not stay because we talked to people later that evening who said they waited to be seated for over an hour and then waited for their food for over an hour and that it was pretty bad. So I’m glad we never ate there. The breakfast buffets are always incredible so much food to choose from and always good. So I highly recommend this resort!

This was my 1st time staying at an all-inclusive resort. Pros big property with nice beach & maybe pools. Con-Steak House needs to improve the taste of the food. Buffets and snack bars were better than restaurants on property. We went out several times for dinner to have a really good meal. We booked this resort for the activities for a 3 1/2-year-old. Sadly, he couldn't do much because of the water playground being broken the entire time & you have to be a certain height to ride the slides. Our Jr. Suite was nice & comfortable, but the shower needs some TLC. Staff was excellent! Very customer oriented.

The property and staff were great everywhere we went. We have a 6 and 4 year old and while there were plenty of fun things for them to do the food was not appropriate or always available for their age. Everything was a buffet. We could not get a reservation to the steak or Japanese restaurant in the 5 days we were there which were the 2 restaurants we knew our kids would enjoy the most. You would think quesadillas would be always on the menu but they were not. Most restaurants kids menus had 1 or 2 choices and because it was buffet you could not ask for a minor ingredient change or elimination. It was very frustrating and the kids ate very little which made them grumpy. The beach had the best options but was not open at night. We ate at the same Lindo buffet for 3 days and 4 meals straight.

I’ve stayed in quite a few all-inclusive resorts in the area and this one was just meh. I was unimpressed with the food and the entertainment. The place is huge and connected to another resort which shares restaurants, etc. The room was missing a hairdryer. Our roll away never came. Our extra pillows never came. There are zero snacks in the room. There’s a bottle of wine in the room but no way to open it. There were zero reservations available for the 2 nice restaurants for any of the nights we were there. We waited 2 hours for the Italian restaurant because we didn’t want to eat at the buffet again. The seafood restaurant was not yummy.
However, the rooms were clean, the beach was nice, there was food at the beach but only burgers and fries every day. There’s a bar at the beach but not really great waiters. We woke up at 6am to get chairs every day or we wouldn’t have had anywhere to sit at all. They seemed over booked and understaffed.
We saw 2 fire shows while there…One was really good. My kids enjoyed the water slides. The Mexican buffet was fast and pretty good for a quick lunch. There’s plenty of shade around. The air conditioning in the rooms worked well. Honestly I enjoyed the Secrets, Excellence, Riu and Dreams resorts better.

Overall an Average resort with no night activities

Overall the resort is average.

Food: Below Average
Not many choices, especially for vegeterian. Also restaurant management is not good. While we were a large group of 20 people and we understand it is tough but even when we were ready to split the group overall reservation was painful and with every restaurant we had to escalate and talk to few people to make things happen. Lost a lot of time in it.

Ambience: Average
While the resort is huge with lots of good activities but at night it looks pretty dead. There is not enough lighting in the resort, no music playing or a central hangout place. The market place also closes very early so once it is dark it becomes a really boring place. Hence we had to go out of resort each night for some entertainment.

Activities: Average
Had lot of good day time activities like pool, beach volleyball, archery, golf, spa etc but there was nothing to do at night. Teenagers in our group got bored at night.

Also for such a larger resort they need at least 2-3 beach volleyball set up. This one only had one.

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and options we had. The only thing missing was the strawberries and bagel. The buffet was excellent, and all other fine dining was exceptional.

The property is absolutely beautiful. The pools are clean, spacious and amazing. You got a wave pool, a lazy river, and slides to play in/on. The entertainment is awesome and the staff are top notch. Only place we'll come to stay at when visiting Riveria Maya.

Overall, the resort was, itself, very scenic, with fun and interesting activities for the whole family. The staff were patient and helpful.

The main reason for the 3-star review is the fact that out of the group of seven, six got food poisoning in the first few days, including our 1-year-old, suggesting that, chances are, there’s some unsafe food handling and/or sanitation gaps at the resort that require attention.

For example, when changing my baby in the men’s washroom, I saw one of the wait staff leave a stall after flushing and resume his job without washing his hands.

I did consider that, perhaps, it could just be exposure to the tropics, but several of our group had previously been to Mexico and/or were from tropical countries. The water/ice is filtered and treated on-site so that was also ruled out.

That said, if you eat “safe” foods, the resort is a really nice stay.

The resort itself is nice and it is clean. There are a lot of amenities on the resort and the staff plays lots of games. The staff is wonderful. They do not give you water bottles because they have a water filtration system. The water is safe to drink but it tastes absolutely terrible (definitely drink from the one of the many fruit infused options available). Breakfast is fine, typical buffet style. Lunch is a let down unless you like to eat burgers everyday. The dinners are WONDERFUL. Whether you are going to the buffet or one of the restaurants, you will not be let down.

One downside to this resort is the towel situation. You check towels out with your room number. Almost every day when we were returning our towels, there was not worker there to check the towels back in. We weren't going to stand around and wait for someone to come back so we just dropped our towels into the towel drop and moved on with our day. This essentially meant the next round of checking towels out, they gave us the 3rd degree about the importance of checking them back in.

Overall, we had a good enough time but this was our least favorite all inclusive we've been too.

Great location with a lot of amenities. My kids loved the big water slide. But I will never do Iberostar again at this location or anywhere else. Restaurant and kitchen staff were excellent. Unfortunately the quality of food they had to serve was bad which is not their fault. We couldn’t book reservations for dinners because everything was booked out when we got there. Maintenance and grounds crew were friendly and engaging. There was one night where our room filled with ammonia gas so bad our eyes were burning (no idea where it came from). The maintenance crew resolved it right away. Beach staff was always great. Front desk crew was not helpful except on trying to sell you in to their rewards programs. Either that or they were preoccupied with their cellphones. There were a few nights where the music would be blasting past 10:00pm. Overall it was a pretty bad experience. It’s too bad because it’s an awesome and beautiful resort with a lot to offer. If it were not for the nice weather and warm water this holiday would have been a total bust.

Lovely place and relaxed. When we booked restuarant for 5 people but the booked only 2 people. confused on APP to booking restaurant. Disappointed one restaurant sell pizza only two days, Monday to Thursday closed???
