Overall our stay was great! They staff pays attention to details and was very attentive. They could not be any friendlier. The food and view from the rooftop area was great! The hotel was also very close to the beach and shops which was very nice! Our only issues was the noise from the nearby venues that played music until 11pm. You could hear this from the room still. The rooms could be updated a bit. Never was able to fill the tub up as it took forever. And the floor seemed like it could be cleaned a bit more. But otherwise everything else seemed to be on par for our stay.

Such a magical experience! Hotel Tugu it feels like you're literally walking into a Balinese museum. It is conveniently located downtown canggu and across from the beach yet you still feel secluded and have your privacy.

Beautiful property. Modern conveniences in a classic Bali setting. We had a room with private pool and the room was huge. King bed, indoor/outdoor bath surrounded by water and fish. Mini bar(pay for most items). Breakfast was plentiful it had ala cart and buffet items. Afternoon tea with snacks. Staff was incredible and provided anything you needed. Walkable to the beach and bars and restaurants nearby. Wife loved the Japanese restaurant where we watched the sunset on the roof. Would recommend.

Everyone that works there treats you like family. They go above and beyond to assist and meet the needs of the guests. They also accommodate clients requests like I wanted a private dinner with a dance and it was honored, Balinese outfit was also provided for. Had a wonderful stay here. The Dedari suite was even better than expected with the outdoor pool and semi-outdoor bathroom. Everyone was extremely polite and helpful throughout the whole stay. Highly recommend if you are ever visiting Canggu.

I’m so torn on my review of this property. The staff was so lovely. It is so very close to the beach, and shops.
But, I chose this hotel based on other reviews about how it is a sanctuary in the middle of Canggu. I could not disagree more. Fireworks going off right outside my villa every night. Loud nonstop music from the beach clubs every night.
This is not the fault of the hotel, I’m just shocked that other guests left reviews about the serenity of the hotel, when it is not that. If I was 20 years younger, it would have been great.
The villa is large, and breakfast is beyond awesome, the staff is so sweet. The spa was not my favorite, but it was just ok.
The bathtub could have been much cleaner, but the room was spotless. I loved the fish in the entrance to my room.
The dances they had one evening in the lobby was wonderful.
For sure a mixed bag here for me.

Possibly the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The room and our private pool was ideal and the service from the staff was incredible .loved afternoon tea and the sushi at Ji restaurant on the rooftop was gorgeous. Breakfast in the lotus garden was another highlight also Lovely views at breakfast watching the surfers from the rooftop Ji restaurant

This was one of the most interesting places we've stayed at. There were all kinds of amazing little rooms and corners in the hotel. Some things needed uodating like plumbing but it was an extremely beautiful Balinese style hotel. The food was also delicious! The Japanese food on the stunning rooftop terrace was delicious as well as the Balinese restaurant downstairs. The biggest feature of the hotel are the outstanding staff! They were the most gentle, kind and helpful team we've ever encountered. We hope they are compensated in accordance to their priceless value as staff. Thank you again for making our stay so very special.

This is a unique property with the museum like artifacts all over the property. Very picturesque and unique rooms - an experience not to be missed! Floors could do with upgrading in the rooms. Pillows smell a little musty but it is a special place and so convenient for surfing and walkable to stores/spa. I was disappointed there was no cultural show, there was no yoga or spa available when I was there and only one restaurant open but I was still glad to have stayed.

This hotel is super beautiful, clean, quiet, peaceful & safe. You can spend whole day just staying enjoying the hotel facility from inside the room to their pool, lobby, 1st, 2nd, 3rd floor dining area. This place is huge with decoration details to the maximum of Bali classic, very exciting for photography.
The surrounding is very clean, quiet, safe & beautiful. The location is very strategic, close to restaurants, money changers, shops, 2 minutes walk to the beautiful beach. The beach is nice for surfers with surf rentals and lessons available.
Above all, the hotel staff service is far beyond expectation. The staff are always ready to serve you and help you with everything you need 24 hrs.
Highly recommended for staying at this hotel. Real 5-star place.

Felt like home with a Balinese touch

Our stay at Tugu was lovely. We booked for a night to celebrate our anniversary and realized that bringing a toddler would be crazy at a place renowned for antiques! The staff were so kind to our little boy and made us feel at home. The massage I had was so relaxing and the high tea and brekkie were delicious. We had dinner at Ji as well and the food was incredible. Although the hotel was quite quiet, the condition of the room and grounds were kept up to a high standard. Please stay at this place as the staff will take care of you and you'll get a glimpse of Balinese and Indonesian culture.

Cool unique place but avoid during the pandemic

The accommodations were pretty and cool. The service was great in some areas but lacking in others. The breakfast service was excellent. The areas that lacked was the Balinese greeting hospitality and enforcement of covid safety precautions. A lot of patrons and some of the staff didn't properly put on a mask. The whole area of Canggu was really bad in terms of covid safety precautions also.

An early 1700s palace reinvented as a small hotel in the 1990s. Beautifully authentic. Close to highly rated restaurants and walkable to local shops. Hotel filtered coffee was good and I’m a fussy strong flat white advocate. The cooking class was expensive but the market visit was insightful and the food we cooked lasted thru two meals. Breakfast was a la carte and the staff unbelievably attentive. The pool was smallish but pretty in dark blue. The beach is easily accessed. You can swim at low tide but it’s not exactly clean. Great for watching the surf. OxeN views from my room were lovely - thru the Lilly pond.

Hotel Tugu was a dream! The resort's grounds were absolutely beautiful with lush greenery surrounding you in every corner. The bathroom was to die for -- big comfy bathtub/shower with all the amenities & more provided. The location is superb -- literally right next door to Canggu's hottest restaurant/bar, The Lawn and the beach is basically in the backyard! Nice breakfast selections & they allow you to choose where you'd like to eat anywhere on the grounds. There are SO many unique spots to have an intimate breakfast -- I recommend up at the top of their Ji Restuarant in a private cabana overlooking the ocean with surfers with incredible sunrises & sunsets. Definitely participate in their dining experiences - so special & unique! We ate fresh fish caught that day & watched many traditional Balinese dances/music performed.

I was very pleased with my stay, and although short and sweet this time, I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.

Amazing Balinese Experience

Service was second to none and staff were happy to help whenever asked. Felt very personal as staff recognised us and very warm. Restaurant options very good in-house and the breakfast at whatever time you liked was superb. Room was traditional style so if you are after sleek, modern hotel this may not be your cup of tea. However if you are looking for an intimate Balinese boutique then Tugu is for you. Location super handy to the beach and restaurants/bars/cafes in Canggu. Pool in the room was great as was the main pool. Beach a minute away.

Rustic yet elegant with a great location

Had a lovely but brief stay at Tugu. The property is steps from the beach which is great for surfing, lounging, or beach fun. The property is beautiful, with a variety of places to sit, relax, and enjoy meals. The menus are wide ranging but the breakfast service was slightly inconsistent. Room bathroom was lovely. Rustic and charming and elegant all at once.

This is a beautiful old hotel. We stayed in a Dedari suite, which had a very nice private pool. The hotel suffers from serious noise issues most nights of the week, often until 4am, so it is unfortunately difficult to recommend and I would not stay here again.
Breakfast, drinks and Indonesian food at the regular restaurant were all good (I would not recommend the the rooftop Japanese restaurant.)
Local staff were welcoming, but overall rather disorganised and the hotel gives the impression of being poorly managed.

Great hotel but ONLY if you DONT sleep

A beautiful hotel BUT only if you don’t like sleeping / an insomniac. It really is a nice hotel, great location close to beach, one of the best rooms I have had, lovely breakfasts but really ... REALLY.... music/bass/beats until 3:30 - 4am in the morning. Quite (A LOT) disturbing. A few others have given 1 STAR because of this as well - I can’t believe more don’t. You can have everything right but noise you can’t avoid till 3-4am (every night) is just not acceptable. Sorry - maybe PLEASE invest in serious soundproofing on all rooms. Then I’ll come back 100% and give a 5 STAR review!! Paid $400++ per night over two nights and seriously not worth it.... sorry I don’t mind noise until 1-2am ... but feel exhausted after staying there in what was supposed to be my last two chilled out luxury nights in Bali. So tired!! Note: I did notice ear plugs next to bed on first arrival - sorry they didn’t help and if you are going to charge those prices then ear plugs next to bed IS NOT the solution!!

Old world, relaxing stay

Room felt very spacious with king size bed and single put in for our son. Lots of lovely welcoming touches, with flowers and notes left around and best toiletries selection even including mozzie lotion. Loved the old world bathroom however drains were very slow to empty so didn't feel comfortable having bath. Showers were great though with windows open overlooking our own personal koi pool it all felt very decadent. Breakfasts were wonderful and we chose to eat ours every morning overlooking the amazing beach views from the 3rd floor. Meal in Japanese restaurant very overpriced and average quality and unfortunately being asked quite rudely to move off the table they had let us sit on originally for a bigger group of walk in customers put a dampener on the evening. On a more positive note watching the dancers and dining in the Indonesian restaurant the following evening was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and the food was delicious.

The worst stay ever in a 5 star hotel

despite the fact that the hotel is beautiful and the staff amazing, the hotel is located right next to clubs and bar. So, if you are looking for tranquillity, forget it. You won’t be able to sleep until 3am in the morning.

A wonderful experience

As soon as we arrived at hotel Tugu we knew it would be a special experience. A true Balinese palace full of beautiful Indonesian antiques. We felt like we had dropped into a 1930s movie set in our giant antique four poster with its feather pillows and thick linen. Then on our covered balcony was the sunken round tin bath complete with flowers floating and a view of the ocean. The staff always smiling and keen to help. We ate at the Japanese restaurant watching the sun over the sea. The grounds are beautiful and exotic and the pool refreshing. We worried the young children might be a nuisance in such an elegant place but the staff welcomed them. A noisy local bar (Friday only) is nearby but the hotel thoughtfully provides earplugs. Highly recommended.

Truly unique experience

The hotel feels like a dreamy tropical experience but it has all of the modern conveniences cleverly built in. Overall we had a great time but the location itself provided a few headaches. It took awhile to figure out grab drivers were afraid to do pickups because of local resistance so transportation could be a bit of an issue. However, the hotel does have a driver they can call and that makes it much easier. I wish we would have known about that from the start.

A throwback to an older age

The Tugu is well known for its display of art and historical artefacts throughout their property. The hotel is beautiful and lush. The breakfast is superb and the high tea is such a good idea. The only down side to the hotels that its is surrounded by a hotel and a beach club with loud music, especially on weekends, late into the night.

The worst...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for three nights of our 2 week trip in Bali. It was the worst, by far.

We originally were shown our \"ocean view\" room which only had a sliver of view if you searched. When we returned at night the noise from the bar across the street was unbearable, so we moved to a room with a \"private pool\". The next day we woke up to kids screaming at the main common pool at 8am.

The private pool is unusable in our opinion. It looks dirty and old, and never saw a sliver of sun. When I tried to use the common pool all of the (very few) sun chaises were full, and there were tons of kids. Disappointing.

The rooms may have antiques but the condition of the rooms are not up to par with anything close to a 4-5 star hotel. Needs renovations badly. The bathroom areas and exterior are run down. Everything is tired looking and dark and dingy. With strange old technology like switches for lights from random spots and filthy marks where you imagine a million hotel guests have touched to use.

The \"antiques\" seem like an excuse to avoid a much needed renovation. As an interior designer I was excited to stay at a hotel with their claimed reputation. On the contrary. It feels like a junk shop with yes, some gorgeous antiques, but littered with other pieces that are falling apart and less authentic looking. Even antiques can need a little restoration.

\"Eco friendly\" seems like a term to cover the cheapened amenities. The complimentary water included is in glass

Great location, warm staff, family friendly

It is our third time back at Tugu Bali. First 2 times for meals and finally for a stay. The staff is always warm and welcoming, especially to our 7-month old baby. Each time we return, we feel like family.

Pre-arrival emails are prompt and effective. We asked for a baby seat for the airport transfers and baby cot in room and sent relevant images to explain. They delivered.

The lobby is spacious, beautiful traditional wood-based and inviting for a read, playing wth baby and a relaxing meal. Sounds of water relaxes you. Great massage. Each room is a unique Balinese style, our came with a lovely little pool and beautiful outdoor bath and bathroom with carp swimming nearby. We highly recommend this place for couples, people looking to destress and families with children. We will be back.

Food is excellent as always. Beautifully prepared, delicious with healthy options like brown rice and superfoods breakfast. Amazing fresh juices. Great new Japanese restaurant. Picky eaters will be happy here.

But above all, it is the amazing staff, from waiters to reception to the friendly managers, everyone. This trumps everything.

loved everything but the ocean

loved the hotel- staff was very accommodating to any wishes we had. food at hotel was excellent. we ate a special \"Forbidden City\" dinner on the beach surrounded by candles & enjoyed gorgeous sunsets from the high \"bed\" platforms every evening. we were traveling w/ 2 kids (4 & 6) who are excellent swimmers & had been surfing daily & wave jumping at our previous bali hotels. unfortunately- the sea here was just too rough- as waves break on beach water is filled w/ roiling sand. i actually was hit by a crazy wave when i was standing in less than knee depth water & fell & broke my left arm :-(

This wonderful hotel sits on echo beach and is stunning throughout. First impressions mean a lot and the authentic Balinese decor and atmosphere do not disappoint. Here you can experience traditional Balinese foods and themed dinners that are amazing. The Puri Le Meyuer suite is fantastic offering a spacious accommodation, modern amenities, comfortable bed and great rain shower. The villa is romantically located hovering above a pink lotus pond surrounded by candlelit wooden walkways. The staff and management are highly attentive, instantly remember your name and take care of any request making your happiness first priority. Breakfast and dinners are fantastic, creative and delicious offering both Balinese and Western fare. Don't miss the cultural dinner and dance performance on Thursdays. Make sure that you try meals at different locations throughout the hotel for a different romantic feel. Ji's is a must with excellent sushi, sake and try the smoking coco sexo drink. The hotel has 21 rooms but only 1 Puri Le Meyuer suite. You can clearly hear the waves from Echo beach crashing and lulling you to sleep. We'll never forget how romantic it felt pulling up to the entryways candlelit walkway for the first time. The hotel boasts a charming appeal during both day and night. The location also offers several excellent breakfast options offset like Old Man's, Crate and Bettlenut cafes all within a 5 to 10 minutes walk. Hotel Tugu offers the perfect getaway from the crowded downtown.

You just have to try this hotel!

Depends on hundreds of reviews with all 5stars on TripAdvisor, made booking one day before. Had a warm welcome when check in, and sweet gifts when check out by hotel manager. It's a member of a boutique hotels group, full with collections, super nice style. Got a private pool with in my room, walk to the beach just by through its backyard. It's only have 21 rooms, that makes this hotel a quiet and peaceful place. To me, it's a small luxury hotel style, and it's different from those international hotels groups, those hotels are good, but just with the same styleEverything's good, facilities, food, spa, etc. Two small complaints: wifi isn't fast, and hot water isn't 24x7(these two happened in other hotels as well, but not all of them in Bali). Guests get a free transport when they leave. Before, I was not satisfied with Bali at all. After, Bali is not that bad to me. Better if the group could design its loyalty program for guests.

Amazing hotel right at Canggu Beach

From start to finish, an amazing experience. Walking in, the hotel receptionist immediately walks you through all the amenities and asks what they can do to make your stay perfect. I asked to move rooms once and they were so prompt it was amazing. Seriously, I've stayed at some of the best hotels in the USA and Africa, and this is definitely one of my best stays ever. I would recommend it without any hesitation or reservation. A+++

We stayed here for the final 2 days of our honeymoon . after staying at the hotel Tugu , Lombok .
It´s a lovely hotel , and the staff were very helpful , but it is not as tranquil as Tugu , Lombok !
