We just returned from an amazing 11-day family vacation at Margaritaville Beach Resort Playa Flamingo with our two teenagers and had a great experience overall.

This was our second time to this resort and it doesn’t disappoint

The resort was very clean and well maintained. Our family room was clean, comfortable, and spacious, which made it perfect for traveling with teens. The staff were all English-speaking, extremely friendly, and always eager to help.

Both bars served excellent drinks and have non-alcohol options. We chose the breakfast-only plan and it worked out perfectly. The buffet had something for everyone, and on some days there was a made-to-order omelette station which was great.

The rest of the food at the resort was a bit mediocre and somewhat bland, but it really wasn’t an issue because there are many great restaurants within walking distance. The Italian restaurant on site does have great pizza though.

The location of the resort is fantastic—right on the beach and an easy walk to Flamingo Plaza and the Flamingo Marina for shops and restaurants.

The resort provides beach lounge chairs, and security will set them up for you right on the beach. We also rented boogie boards from the resort which the kids loved. The beach is very safe with great waves to play in. We even saw a couple of stingrays and a sea turtle during our stay, and the sunsets were absolutely beautiful.

Overall, it was a fantastic family vacation and we would definitely return. 🌅🏝️

Rooms were very nice and clean. Staff was wonderful very friendly and quick to provide whatever was needed. This is smaller resort very quiet and great place to relax. The location was great, good beach and within short walk to shopping. It is somewhat remote so 1 hour plus ride from airport, but worth the drive.

My family of four, including my two boys ages 4 and 7, had an amazing time at Margaritaville. We had access to the most beautiful ocean with gentle waves that were fun but still felt completely safe for swimming with my boys. They had a blast crashing into the soft waves. The pool was another highlight. It is a great size and never gets too deep, which made it absolutely perfect for our family.

The staff was incredibly sweet. We always felt well cared for and welcomed. At no point did we feel like we were bothering anyone. The food was mostly good with lots of options to choose from. I will say that when ordering, it helps to be specific about how you like something prepared. One day the tacos were amazing and the next day they were a little soggy.

Another standout was how clean everything was all the time. Our room was beautiful, and I always felt safe. There is also so much to do nearby, which made the trip even more special. We would definitely come back and will be reminiscing and missing this beautiful place in amazing Costa Rica.

Our stay at Margaritaville was pretty good. Staff was friendly, and rooms were clean. Needs a great activity coordinator to expand activities offered and encourage participation. The dining options seemed somewhat limited but they did serve good food. Pool areas were slippery and HOT.

The room and services was excellent and would have rated the whole place excellent.
But the surfaces around tge pool was a skating rink. I fell down the very first morning and broke two ribs. What gets me is they have only one very small saying it's slippery in a bush.

We loved this hotel. The staff was efficient and the room was clean. It is ideally situated in front of the beach. Two suggestions to improve this hotel 1) Add a fourth restaurant to diversify the food offering. 2) Add more shaded areas around the pool. We will recommend this hotel to our friends.

Great location with beautiful beach access. We arrived early and the GM gave us our wrist bands right away so we could eat and drink so that was great. We also were into our room by 10am so didn’t have to wait until 1500.

We enjoyed our stay at Margaritaville. The room was beautiful and clean as were the hotel pool and general facilities. Breakfast was good. Our only complaint is that we were very surprised there were no beach chairs for guests set up. Disappointing for a beachfront resort! We were told you could request these, but that felt a bit discouraging. Also, days after eating the breakfast buffet every day we found out from another guest you could choose to order a la carte instead. It would have been nice to know this. Overall though a beautiful place and an enjoyable stay. Good restaurants and shops within walking distance.

We have travelled to Costa Rica 7 times now. Margaritaville is one of oir favorite spots , small , clean , staff are friendly and helpful . Amazing with the kids . Food is good . 3 Restaurants to choose from . Best drinks at the pool bar . Rooms were great , large , beds are comfortable , air conditioning was great . Beach amazing . We will return definitely.

Highly Disappointed;

I specifically paid extra for a pool room view with a king bed, and unfortunately that is not what I received.

Instead, I was placed in a ground-level corner room. Although it was technically a “walk-out,” the patio faced a cement half wall and a bush, there was no actual view of the pool from the room. The only way to see the pool was to physically walk out and around the bushes .

When I spoke with reception, I was told the only alternative available was a room with two queen beds, which did not match the king room I had booked. Since I specifically requested and paid for a king bed, this was not an equivalent option for us.

Overall, I feel I overpaid for what I received. I expected the room category I selected and paid a premium for. While the staff were polite, the resolution offered did not reflect the difference in what was booked versus what was provided.
I’m really unhappy about it - this was a surprise booking for my husbands 50th birthday and it definitely did not meet my expectations. I’m highly disappointed

The property is beautiful, located in a beautiful small area that has a plaza right across the street and a Marina within walking distance.

This is a great location for couples even though the resort is open to families.

What a great place! They say if you love your job, you'll never work a day. I've never seen staff who were as happy to be at work. Everyone was smiling and cheerful every day. Their work reflected their attitude. Everything was clean and well maintained, and things were always done right. The pool was sparkling clean each morning. The room was always made up perfectly. The restaurants were all excellent with very attentive staff. The pool bar was exceptional. Great drinks created by happy, smiling bartenders. Don't fail to have a cheeseburger from the 5 o'clock somewhere grill! This is truly a bit of paradise. I'll single out just a few. Scott, the manager, deserves credit for keeping his staff happy and performing the way they do! Carol at the front desk, Elias, Juan Pablo, Felippe, Nadezca at the pool bar. Mabel, our perfect housekeeper. The maintenance guys who are always smiling and hard at work. The landscaping crew who keep it looking great. All the waiters and waitresses at every restaurant. This was a top notch experience. I'll also recommend the sunset catamaran excursion from the marina. That was a highlight. We'll definitely be back!

We enjoyed a great family stay. Comfortable beds and room for all 5 of us.

The pool was great. Really appreciated the covered kids pool. Though would have like to see more shade/umbrellas at the pool. Or less people (who seemed to never show up) saving those seats with towels.

The swim up bar was a great feature and all who work there were friendly and kind especially to our kids and their seemingly non stop pina coladas.

All the food was good. Though disappointing to buffet other than at breakfast. From what we understood this was due to lower occupancy. Although the daily buffet theme was still advertised on the activity’s board.

Live music at the 5 o clock somewhere bar was excellent both nights we went.

The beach is beautiful and only a few steps across a sandy road to get there. Security guys happily got us chairs when we asked.

Location was great with the marina and bit of shopping close by. Felt safe to walk.

Definitely would stay again at Margaritaville Playa Flamingo

mixed bag. more of a 2 star hotel than a resort. The setup with the beach was a real letdown. we knew there was a road between beach and hotel, but it is chaos, dirt road traffic jam all day, dust, honking no space on beach for hotel guests (competing with public who bring tents chairs etc. plunk down around main entrance). no shade, lots of people. beach has little depth also, so we didn't really go on it although it's the main attraction. the property is cramped and nestled between beach entrance and only road; tons of people walking on road next to parking entrance. Rooms small, gym lobby upstairs need updating, food was ok more like diner style, + tiny buffet, tiny indoor seating not really any ac. Italian resto was acceptable have to book at 7 am. we had all inclusive, but food very limited, only one \"main\" resto besides Italian resto, both small, + pool bar for small meals. for the price we paid (very high) i was expecting more. maybe this is the smallest Margaritaville in the chain. I don't know, first time. if i had to do it again in guanacaste i would probably pick a Large resort like Riu palace directly on a private (because cliff at each end and more remote) beach and a lot more affordable.

The stay here was amazing! It was made incredibly clear over and over again throughout our stay that we had chosen the right place for our family. The beach was less than 50 feet from the property, and it was a BEAUTIFUL beach with gorgeous blue water, and the very best sunsets I have ever seen. The pool was beautiful as well. It was easy to get boogie boards, paddle boards, bikes, and towels whenever you needed them. The drinks at the poolside and all of the restaurants were great. My daughters enjoyed delicious mocktails throughout our stay. My girlfriend and I enjoyed some adult cocktails, beers, and wines. The staff were ALL very attentive, helpful, and always kind and patient.

This resort exceeded our expectations. It was quiet, smaller than other resorts we’ve stayed at, had plenty of activities, walkable to the nearby marina and shops, and the service was amazing. We walked to other restaurants in the area, which were fantastic. The swim-up bar was a huge bonus as we spent so many hours in the pool. The beach was pristine and gorgeous. The most beautiful beach and picturesque sunset I’ve ever seen. The beach vendors were kind and did not bother. Food at the restaurants was good but not great. Traveling with a small child, we weren’t looking for the highest quality food anyway. We utilized the in room childcare - Alejandra was so sweet and kind. The massage and facial we received at the spa were relaxing and just what we needed. Service at the restaurants was good, but it was very slow at 5 o’clock somewhere during lunchtime. The only real complaint I had was the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. The bedding in general seemed not to fit the mattress as it kept coming off. Other than that, we had an excellent stay and plan to return again in the summer.

Disappointing Experience – Not for Youngsters or Families

Staff service and food quality need serious improvement. There is absolutely no nightlife— the resort is completely dead by 9 PM. With only three restaurants, the food options are very limited and repetitive every day.

The staff member responsible for booking excursions was rude and unhelpful. We were promised a special anniversary surprise by the planner before arrival, and we even had written confirmation via text messages. However, once we reached the resort, they denied everything and made no effort to resolve the issue.

This resort is clearly targeted toward guests aged 60+. There are no activities for kids or young adults, no entertainment, and no nightlife whatsoever. Young couples and families should avoid this place.

Do not take the all-inclusive plan—it’s better and more enjoyable to eat outside the resort.

Overall, this was a very disappointing stay and not worth the price.

We weren’t sure what to expect, but it was a perfect location. The beach was really fun, clean and quiet! We had a rental car and went out exploring other beaches both north and south, but Flamingo was the best for hanging out and playing in the waves with the boogie board. Surfing at Tamarindo was fun but the beach itself was very busy. Margaritaville was an easy enough drive from the airport and the national park to go hike the waterfalls and volcano. If you drive yourself, be aware route 911 has a washout and you will have to drive through a small bit of riverbed. It sounds worse than it is, plenty of sedans made it through. It was dark when we first encountered it but once we drove it in the daylight it was no big deal. Traffic can be intense from 4-7 pm on the roads coming in and out of town. If you like setting your own schedule and exploring independently, definitely rent a car. Parking is free at Margaritaville! The staff was lovely, rooms very clean and loved being walking distance to numerous restaurants. Overall it was a great place to stay for our first trip to Costa Rica.

We actually got to experience three different types of rooms while we were there because we got married - we checked into the standard room which was great (a balcony overlooking the pool) and then the honeymoon suite for 3 nights which was AMAZING, following that we were moved into a 1 bedroom ocean view suite, which was also amazing. It had two balconys, a kitchenette, living room, bedroom and bathroom. One of the balconys had sun loungers and the other had a table and chairs.
The staff at the resort were fabulous, the food was great, the atmosphere was also great! The location was perfect as the beach that it is on was stunning. I really do not have much to complain about. It is a very small resort, one pool, I believe 4 places to eat (open at different times) but we found it just perfect.

My stay was great, now I truly understand the term ‘pura vida”; thank you to Priscilla and Jose, Felix , and the many other workers and staff(too many to recall all the names), from the staff at its 5 o’clock somewhere to the banana wind restaurant as well as the Italian restaurant Capriccios Pizza Bistro & Cafe and of course the swim up bar License to chill, it was amazing. Very clean and great staff. Food was OK and mostly the same every day. If you smoke you have to basically leave the property just a heads up on that. Otherwise very nice small quiet (for the most part) relaxing place. Also if you are an early riser and you drink coffee they will not let you in the buffet to get coffee before 6:30am. This goes for all and if you have an excursion that leaves early this would be an issue. They should definitely have it available somewhere accessible. They do have coffee makers in the room but just make sure it works.

I stayed at Margaritaville in Costa Rica for a full week and overall had an amazing experience. The staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we arrived. I chose the all-inclusive package and did excursions every other day, so I was only on the resort about half of the time. Even with that, I will say the food did get a bit repetitive. It was very catered toward American tastes and didn’t change much throughout the week — that would be my only real downside.
Aside from that, everything else was wonderful. The service truly stood out. At the swim-up bar, Elias went above and beyond for my kids, who kept ordering virgin margaritas. He even gave my three-year-old a tiny cup that was absolutely adorable. He was so friendly and patient — I couldn’t have asked for better service.
The hotel itself was very clean. Housekeeping came every day, so I never had to worry about a thing. At the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar, Fiona, Nadezca, Steicy, Melvin, Marvin, and Gabriel provided excellent service as well.
Overall, Margaritaville delivered a fun, relaxing vacation with exceptional staff. I would definitely recommend it, especially for families.

The resort was extremely clean and beautiful. The beach was pristine, smooth, unforgettable. The sunsets are brilliant. Our room was spotless everyday, amazing towel animals on the bed; a very nice touch. Wonderful staff. Breakfast staff were so friendly- Rodolfo, Andy, Paulino, Douglas. Jose and Priscilla doing the rec activities were great. Nadesca serving on the deck was very sweet. Jessica at the spa did a lovely hot stone massage. Elliot picked us up from a restaurant when it was dark! Flower got us a round trip uber on her phone that was reliable and reasonable to go to Conshell beach at the last minute on our last day. Everyone was super, even the security was friendly. Close to the resort is the marina and lots of places to eat. We felt totally safe and it was a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Highly recommend!

Our stay at Margaritaville Resort Costa Rica was memorable, the resort itself offers what you’d expect from an all-inclusive comfortable rooms, good amenities, and a beautiful beach the real standout here is the exceptional staff.
The moment we checked in Malory at the front desk set the tone with a warm, friendly check-in experience. I hardly ever remember names, but the service here is was so great and personable that several people left a positive impression.
Banana Winds, Rodolfo and Mauricio made every visit feel welcoming and easy. Over at the Italian restaurant, each meal felt like a personal experience every time we ate there, thanks to the incredible team—Randall, Yoleth, Carlos, and Kevin.
And last but certainly not least Henry from security was not only professional but incredibly friendly and easy to talk to, adding an unexpected and appreciated personal touch to our stay.
The gorgeous beach and phenomenal staff are what set it apart. Highly recommend and plan on retuning!

This was a long weekend getaway to celebrate some birthdays in the family and we had such an amazing time. The staff was friendly and kind, the food was delicious and rooms were very clean. The stay that my partner & I had was phenomenal! This resort is extremely clean, with a ton of food/ drink options to choose from. There are a lot of fun activities that happen throughout the day to keep you busy. We were more than pleased with our stay, everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. We will definitely be coming back with more people! Wanted to give a special shoutout to susy,flower,doney,paulino,scott and the entire staff at Margaritaville. See you guys soon, Pura Vida !

Far away from everything. Transportation was ridiculously pricey. Staff were amazing and very friendly. The water in my room cut off for an hour which was crazy. Bar closed way too early. Limited restaurants.

The staff we encountered were all awesome. Whether the front desk, the concierge, restaurants, or maintenance. Everyone was very friendly and professional. Check in was simple and quick. The concierge staff expertly setup some amazing experiences. The proximity to the marina for additional amenities is awesome as well. The only thing keeping the experience from being five stars is our room TV never worked the entire time we were there, not a huge issue, but we had maintenance try to repair the TV on three different days, and we finally gave up.

We had an amazing time at Margaritaville Playa Flamingo! The staff were absolutely excellent — warm, welcoming, and always eager to help with anything we needed. The food was fantastic, with a great variety of delicious options at every meal.

The views were truly breathtaking, and the beach right in front of the resort was beautiful — soft sand, perfect for relaxing. One thing to note is that the tide and currents can be quite strong at times, and it changes drastically throughout the day, which can make the beach look very different depending on the hour. It’s fascinating to watch but something to be mindful of if you plan to swim or take long walks along the shore.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a great place to unwind. I’d definitely recommend Margaritaville Playa Flamingo to anyone looking for a stunning getaway in Costa Rica!

Everything about the hotel was wonderful. The staff was excellent, very helpful and friendly. The swim-up bar was a hit with adults and kids. The entire facility was extremely clean. Access to the beach was so convenient. Definitely would recommend and return.

I enjoyed my short stay here. For all inclusive the food was good and lots of options for a smaller resort. It surprised me that at the pool no service was offered. Only when I went to the bar did I receive any service. Why no one served me around the pool area I have no idea.

Overall a good property, it is off season so most of the activities or special dining option canceled as not enough guest. The staff super friendly and very accommodating to my dad that has mobility issues.

The beach is across the street from the property and you will need to rent chairs or bring your own when laying out or sitting at the beach

Outside the resort very walkable area with some restaurant and shops.

The rooms you could keep the temperature cool as I like a cold room for sleeping. The unlimited drinks and food were a good value again since off season the food choices after a few days were repetitive.

The pool area is great with swim up bar.

Pros: Rooms were spacious and very clean. Drinks were good. The Italian restaurant was amazing!! And Randall was a great server. Elias at the License to Chill bar knows his stuff and is very sociable. The grounds were kept nice and pool was clean. Always a place to sit around the pool.
Cons: did not have 3 pools as advertised. The beach is across the road. Food was decent but have had better. Needs more options. Some staff was very knowledgeable about things and some weren't.
Overall decent Margaritaville. Not sure if we would go back.
