We stay there for 4nigths. Very quiet place. 2 minutes walk to beach. Amazing beach, mostly for surfing.
You can swim but careful for beginners surfers.
The property is nice with a pool and outdoor kitchen located in a peaceful garden.
We stay at room #35. Wifi connection very poor. Have to be in the balcony to get Wifi.
Lack of hooks in washrooms and room for hanging things. Cafe Mar Azul is very good restaurant for your meal and drinks.
Overall very nice property.

Great hotel overall. The amenities were great; there is a pool, common kitchen with gas stovetop, common eating area, lounge chairs, mini fridge in room and places to relax. There was a hole in our door which let in some insects and ants. The wifi was patchy in out room, but that could have been because we were the farthest room from the main office.

There was a great restaurant next door with friendly staff. Unfortunately the mini-mart close by didn't have many food options.

This is a reliable budget boutique find in a stunning, elite area. The highlight is absolutely the proximity to the water—having basically beachfront access in such a private neighborhood was a dream! The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. My only note is that the rooms could use a little TLC; some fresh paint and new grout would go a long way in making the space feel finished. Also, keep in mind it’s a bit of a distance from the main shopping and dining hubs, so it's perfect if you're looking for a quiet escape.

The staff was outstanding! Yorya, Dylan and Andrea were consistently personable, friendly, and particularly helpful, answering all of our questions and assisting us with virtually all of our plans! The location in Palm Beach Estates was ideally situated, where a short walk on a shaded path led to a wonderful, expansive and nearly private beach. The grounds at Hotel El Manglar were quite lush and well maintained. The swimming pool and surrounding deck areas were equally well maintained. Our room had a small kitchen which was well-equipped, offering us everything we needed for light meals and beverages. Our room was comfortable and clean, with linens and supplies replenished every other day. The bed was quite well-dressed and comfortable.
We were worried about not having a car during our stay and discovered that it was not an issue! An 18 minute walk south on the beach brought us to an estuary system, which was easily crossed by water taxi ($2.00 U.S,), dropping us into the bustling beach town of Tamarindo. Its streets were lined with a variety of restaurants and quaint beach shops featuring local artisans and souvenirs. Once there, we could easily reach a bank and 2 small grocery stores. We took 3 excursions that required transportation, and those arrangements were seamlessly handled by the wonderful El Manglar staff (mentioned above).

We very much hope that a return trip will be in our not-too-distant future! Pura-Vida!

This js a great hotel for beach access and family friendly. We were in standard room. Very very small but that was expected. The staff was very friendly. We were there for 3 days. On the 3rd day our toilet clogged and the staff was slow to respond. They graciously put us in an upgraded room but while one of our daily member was having a shower, the water stopped. Later we found out that the were filling the pool. They didn’t inform us. I feel bad leaving a poor review since this is a rugged style hostel hote frequented by local Costa Rica people. But we dust get good experience and also cell signa and WiFi was non existent

Outstanding staff! Comfortable bed and good size bathroom. Liked the keyless entry system especially when going to the beach we didn’t worry about losing key. Beach only 2 min away. Pool area lovely gardens and shade if you wanted. Room fridge and air conditioner were added features.

We came to El Mangar from very busy Tamarindo and I wish we could have came here first! The property is pristine, the front desk at reception were kind,attentive and so helpful and you got a feel of you are welcome here, it has been amazing!

The area is safe , secure and quiet , in the morning you can hear the waves from the beach :)

room: small and cozy , this is the cleanest hotel we have stayed in after being in Costa Rica for a week, I am very particular about rooms, yes there may be some paint chipped but that is nothing, the rooms are clean!

A/C works wonderful, actually had to raise the temp because we got too cold.
Showers - hot water !

Parking : directly across from the hotel, on a quiet road ( which is more like a small lane ) , your vehicles are parked directly across and infront of the reception area in a small parking area. There is a parking pass that you have to display but this gives you peace of mind that your vehicle will be safe!

There is a nice walkway to the beach, it’s about a 2 minute walk through a really neat forest setting, the trail is clean and flat, I do appreciate the beach being a 2 minute walk as you’re not surrounded by hotels and staring at a big resort right beside you , the beach is clean and not overall busy.

The cafe next door has amazing food!

I am so glad we came to stay here ! ❤️ we have had such an amazing time and I wish it wasn’t only for one day.

This place was INCREDIBLE! Everything about it was perfect. The staff was helpfull and very friendly. The acces to the beach super easy. We had dinner at the bistro and it was so good! We had the Villa #3 for 2 nights and we were super sad to leave. We will come back next year for a longer stay!

Hotel El Manglar is maybe my most favorite hotel EVER! The grounds are beautiful!! The staff is so kind and helpful. Dylan and Georgia at the front desk were just incredible! The beach is stunning and the private path to the beach is magical! Our villa was comfortable and very clean. It had a king size bed, large shower, nice little kitchen and sitting area. Both the sitting area and kitchen had French doors that opened to the porch. We enjoyed our Costa Rican coffee and banana bread each morning on the porch. We had everything we needed! We loved the hammock on our private porch too! We surfed every day and I conveniently rented my surfboard from the hotel. We also enjoyed swimming in the lovely pool after a surf session. The owners of this hotel have created a paradise environment in Playa Grande. Dylan even arranged a tour of the estuary where we saw all kinds of wildlife including iguanas, crocodiles, the mangrove hawk and a family of Howler Monkeys. The food at the hotel's restaurant (a short walk from the hotel grounds) was delicious and fresh with great service (Luis). There is also another restaurant next door that serves great food and the homemade banana bread. I can't wait to go back!!! Hotel El Manglar is dreamy!!!

We truly enjoyed our stay in our Villa. It was quiet, beautifully landscaped with very friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed the very close Cafe Mar Azul beach vibe restaurant. We enjoyed seeing and hearing monkeys nearby. It was a very short walk in a beautiful pathway to the stunning beach with amazing sunsets.

On voulait un hébergement près de la plage dans le coin de Tamarindo, on est content d'avoir résidé au El Manglar plutôt que dans la ville de Tamarindo. La plage est à 5 minutes et l'espace piscine est super bien aménagé pour se reposer. On a utilisé l'espace cuisine pour nos déjeuners et des repas simples. On a eu quelques difficultés d'accès au Wifi à partir des chambres, mais pour nous c'était un avantage car ça forçait nos ados à descendre dans l'espace commun.

Hotel El Manglar is amazing. Even though it was the cheapest place we stayed along the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, the staff and the high standard of the hotel, made it one of the most boutique and chic.
The staff was very attentive and friendly and gave lots of recommendations.
The grounds were beautiful and the pool was nice with lots of areas outside to hang out.
Our room although small was very comfortable, clean and stylish.
This part of Playa Grande is a little off the beaten track but there were still a few good restaurants as well as a little store nearby.
We ended up renting bikes and I definitely recommend this as a way to explore the area if you don't have a car.
The hotel also had its own cafe and restaurant, yoga and a beach access as well as surf boards to rent.
It was a very relaxing and beautiful stay.

Not safe for children. We were assigned a room that had a balcony with a big gaps between the balcony railings and was not safe for our 4 year old. We went for our anniversary and had made a request for special arrangement which was not accommadated. Also, any of our requests were not accommodated as we booked through a 3rd party, Expedia, perthe staff. Had webooked directly, they would have taken care of our requests.
Property was great, but staff and our check in process and experience could have been much better

What a great little hotel! The staff at reception (Yorya, J-J, and Andrea) were super-friendly and helpful, providing information and booking me on 2 tours. The pool was lovely and I appreciated the shared kitchen. I loved the hammocks and hammock swings! It's a 2 min. walk to the spectacular beach, and watching the sunset was a highlight for me. It was definitely more difficult to get around as a solo traveller without a car, but I felt safe walking the beach and taking the water ferry to and from Tamarindo. I was not a fan of the hotel's restaurant (located at the sister location the Cantarana) when I ate there twice, but the two other nearby restaurants (1-3 min.walk) were quite yummy!

Our stay at this hotel was amazing. The entire staff were incredibly knowledgeable, professional and very quick to respond to all of our questions and needs. The hotel was very clean, comfortable and conveniently located steps from the beach. The hotel has its own clean private trail through the jungle leading straight to the sandy beach. One day we saw howler monkeys in the trees above us on the trail. We will be back to Hotel El Manglar for sure!

Everything was very nice and a one minute walk to the ocean. The facilities are very good including a very comfortable bed and good shower and bathroom. We loved our stay at Hotel El Manglar. It was a one minute walk to beach. The beach spot is heavenly and was never very busy during our 6 night stay. The extra amenities like the basketball court were an added bonus for our family. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The pool is great and grounds are beautiful. Having a two bedroom was also nice for our family of four. The kitchen step up included a full sized refrigerator, stove top burners, toaster oven, microwave, regular coffee pot and a Cafe Britt coffee capsule machine. The Palm Beach Estates area is very walkable with lots of dining options. Our favorite dinner spot was Cafe Mar Azul next door. We also visited Tamarindo on Thursday night for the night market and had a great time.

Hotel El Manglar was the perfect spot for my friends and I. The staff is some of the kindest and most helpful staff I have encountered in my travels. Yorya checked us in and helped us plan a great sunset cruise as she was very knowledgeable about the area. She, along with all the others, was incredibly attentive and thorough. The facility is very nice, and the pool was relaxing. The hotel has its own beach entrance with a well set up sitting area. All of the bars and restaurants in the area were walking distance and the main strip of playa grande is a short drive. We will definitely be staying here again.

I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed staying here. The staff is super sweet and helpful and the grounds are well maintained and plenty of shade and places to relax when you need time out of the sun. We had everything we needed and the wave out front was never crowded, we never felt the need to travel elsewhere for surfing…love it! The area is very quiet and safe. If you want hustle and bustle it’s about a mile walk up the beach to the river, where you can take boat across and walk into Tamarindo, but only during the day - the boat doesn’t run after about 4pm so be mindful of the time! Thank you for a great experience!

Nice hotel but the roads were horrible to get there. We actually crossed 2 streams and very rocky conditions. The staff, especially the girls were so friendly and ready to help. There was no drawers to put our clothes. We lived out of the suitcases. We really liked the private assess to the beach which was like 500 feet away. Lost power a few times but came back on in 10 minutes. The restaurant adjacent to the hotel is excellent and very affordable. The food is delicious.

The hotel is so quaint and you feel like you are in a mini private villa. The staff is amazing, friendly and very accommodating. The beach is 2 minutes away, accessible by a private path, so lovely. You can choose to do so many amazing activities, from Surf, Yoga, poolside chilling all the way to many different exciting excursions! An amazing little piece of paradise! The property was very stylish and well laid out. The beach access was also very nice with keyless entry with a code.
We did have an issue with very loud guests at the pool one day, but they settled them down. The hot water had to be fixed (brrrrr), but the staff was very helpful with meeting our needs. I enjoyed the time there although we couldn't get the tv to work for the whole trip. We really enjoyed the refreshing pool and pool-side lounging areas. The restaurants around the hotel were very good and walkable.

The staff at reception are warm and friendly. The room was a reasonable size but could have done with a little tlc. There wasn't really anywhere to hang or store clothes and the little ants ocassionally made their way onto the bed. The pool and grounds were pretty and it was a stone's throw from a gorgeous beach. We tried the 2 closest restaurants and both were good and had entertainment at the weekend.

Good accommodation but not a ‘villa’ and quite a dark apartment.

Primary problem was development noise (hammering / drilling) next door stopped us sitting outside or using the pool.

Also the gardener was using a leaf blower whilst we were at the pool - too much noise - we had to leave the pool - give him a broom !!

5 stars for location within walking distance to quiet beach (but swimming next to impossible because of big waves), walking distance to a few bars and restaurants, and beautiful grounds.

5 stars for nice, quiet a/c.

1 star for no reading lamps (1 meter away from the bed; bring your own itty-bitty light if you like to read).

1 star for having to walk 3 meters to the other side of the room to turn off lights before going to sleep! Duh!

1 star for only getting the room cleaned every other day, not even trash emptied or new toilet paper filled (in the tropics... yuck).

1 star for claiming to have a \"bar,\" a \"spa,\" and, worst of it all, \"laundry facilities\" with the latter being a guy you can call on What's App who never responded!!! It's the tropics. Its humid. You need your laundry done ever so often, even when traveling. We ended up taking ours to a neighboring hotel who helped us by doing our laundry for us for a modest price.

Minus points for not having anywhere to hang the wet floor towel/rag, our swimsuits, etc. Others like us had to hang them outside the room on a common wall. A community clothes line or something like that would have been good as things cannot dry out inside rooms in Costa Rica because of the extreme humidity.

I asked nicely at the hotel lobby for this and suggested them having a for-pay washing machine and a clothes line. I only got a lot of attitude and a message from the young lady that \"when you travel, you sometimes have to do things d

The area is beautiful with a natural beach. The hotel was in need of some TLC with a taped together shower, slightly dingy room and rats / ants. However the aircon worked well and the staff were helpful, finding a solution to our broken safe & booking us into a turtle tour.

This is my second time at Hotel El manglar. Each time I've been sad to leave. It is a private and quiet small hotel that offered great service. The concierge desk will help you book any excursion or transportation. They helped us arrange surf lessons and a tour through the manglar forrest where we saw MONKEYS! Our time in costa rica was so Special but the service we experience here made it even better. I can't wait to visit again. only con is that the wifi service in the room wasn't as strong but who needs wifi on vacation? not me.

This hotel is isolated and it takes us an hour from Tamarindo center
The staff are nice especially Andrea and Mario from the restaurant but the rooms are ok on upstairs with no elevators or help offered
The hotel should focus on the safety of the guest especially on the floors can be slippery on rainy days as my friend had slipped on the pool side and it’s so dangerous
It’s an ok hotel hotel not very clean and too far from tamarindo beach where the action and the restaurants are
I won’t recommend this hotel coz it’s too far and it’s so isolated

He was always readyand willing to help. My only draw back with the area was the roads. The roads going to and from the hotel are horrible.

The staff went above and beyond. The property is in a closed-off neighborhood but it's great. I strongly suggest renting a car. very affordable. The only downfall to the room I had was the lack of space to put my clothing away. but that was nothing big. you will fall in love with Costa Rica. The place is great and right next to the beach The staff are absolutely amazing, with Engelberth and Yorya deserving a massive raise for how fantastic they are. I stay here every time I am in the area because of them.

A lovely, unique property with a nature feel. A minute walk to the beach, surf boards and boogie boards can be rented from them. Catch a yoga classes on certain days. There is even a kitchen in the outdoor common area which guests are free to use. This is convenient with a market around the corner if you dont want to eat out. Great simple place if you dont mind not having all the frills.
We loved it here.

Was fine but mildly misleading in that on expedia it says .5 miles to town, but did not note that mean swimming over a crocodile infested river or driving in a 3/4 circle that took 35 minutes to get to town.

We only stayed one night - would have been happy with more! The concierge, Engleberth, went out of his way to leave detailed instructions including a video of how to get to our room in case he was no longer there when we arrived (front desk closes at 9:30pm). He also helped get a forgotten item to us the next day. Super friendly and helpful staff. The adjoining restaurant served great breakfast. Conveniently, we rented surfboards on site as well. Gracias! Pura Vida!

Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour de 6 nuitées dans une villa 1 chambre avec notre fils de 7ans. Très propre, le lit confortable et la cuisine bien équipée.

Le site de l’hôtel est bien aménagé avec une superbe piscine, basket, ping pong et des aires de détente. Il y règne une belle ambiance décontractée.

Le personnel est accueillant et nous avons eu une excellente communication avant et pendant notre séjour.

A quelques pas d’une magnifique plage épargnée par le tourisme de masse où nous avons admiré les plus beaux couchés de soleil.

C’était une 2e fois pour nous à Playa Grande et nous avons déjà hâte d’y retourner.

Nice hotel but we didn’t enjoy our room. It was too small for a double bed room; no closet space, no hot water and it’s run-down. The shower sprayed out so violently that we had a river after every shower causing my kid to slip twice. Our friends stayed on the second floor and the room was much improved from ours. Overall the hotel itself is nice staff is friendly and flexible. Location is great if you are someone that enjoys staying away from the crowds. I would stay here again just not in the same room. Have traveled to most countries in Central America, third time in CR and this was our second least favorite hotel room.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, room was clean, property well-maintained. We had fun using the pingpong table and shared space hammocks, and loved the short walk down a private path to the beautiful beach - Playa Grande itself. A bit of small-scale construction nearby and a lack of soundproofing between rooms was the only downfall, but other hotel guests were respectful and quiet by evening so this was not an issue.

Staff was friendly and there were multiple eating options around, which were easy to walk to. We enjoyed private access to the beach. The bathroom had a very nauseating smell though. It may be the cleaning product used.

This place was really, really nice. I would have never found it but we happened into it out of necessity and we were very pleasantly surprised. If you are driving, you will be a little freaked out by the road to get here but it’s totally worth it!!
