I had a wonderful stay here and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Tamarindo. The location is excellent - just a 10-minute walk to the beach, 1–5 minutes from many fantastic restaurants, and only about 4 minutes from Ser Om Shanti Yoga Studio, which was a huge plus for me.

Maggie and Sandra at the front desk were incredibly sweet, welcoming, and always happy to help with recommendations or anything I needed during my stay. The owners and staff clearly care about creating a sense of community among guests. They hosted a social gathering on Thursday evening with complimentary chips, salsa, and sangria, which was such a thoughtful touch and a great opportunity to meet fellow travelers.

Overall, a comfortable, friendly, and well-located place to stay in Tamarindo. I would happily stay here again!

The staff was very friendly and gave us a lot of great information about Tamarindo upon arrival to help us make the most of our time there. We loved the proximity to the downtown and beach. The pool was well maintained. The rooms were clean and AC worked well, but the rooms could in general use a little updating, the water pressure in the shower for example, was inconsistent at times. Overall great value for the proximity to everything central to Tamarindo.

We loved this place!! The staff are fantastic and so friendly. We had two of the best breakfasts of our whole trip at the cafe! So fresh and delicious.

The pool is lovely, with lots of lounge chairs to use. They have fresh coffee available in the mornings, cold/filtered water available in the shared space, and shampoo/conditioner and body wash in the rooms.

The location is amazing. 5-10 minute walk to most anything you would need. Beautiful, clean grocery store a few minutes away, as well as a bank and pharmacy. Countless restaurants and bars within a couple of minutes walk.

We enjoyed our time here very much with welcomed visits from the sweetest little dog, Wyatt. We even got to enjoy watching 5-6 howler monkeys swinging in the trees while we relaxed in the pool. It’s truly paradise!

Fantastic stay. Staff were very helpful and really enjoyed the weekly social. Pool was lovely with shade which is very important in the Costa Rican sun. Breakfast was delicious. Enjoyed meeting the owner and his little dog Wyatt. Hotel was well looked after and well Kent. Water cooler available and tours offered. The monkeys even came to visit in the backyard one afternoon. Fantastic location, you are able to walk to many restaurants and the nightly market on Thursday nights which has a great vibe. Highly recommend and look forward to a return visit!

It was a very relaxing resort!

The location is amazing! A close walk to the beach but far enough away to not hear the chaos of Tamarindo nightlife.

The staff here were excellent and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of.

The Thursday night mixer was a nice way to meet like minded people from around the world and the free drinks an appetizers were a nice touch.

The pool is great with both sun and shade all day depending on what you are looking for.

Free morning tea and coffee was enjoyable and the cafe had excellent food. We would definately stay here again!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel!
The reviews for this place are spot on. This is a hidden gem off the beaten path of the town.
The location is perfect as it’s not in the center of town so it’s quiet at night yet within walking distance to the center of town (less than five minutes).
The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. Everyone was very friendly.
The rooms were clean and very comfortable.
I will definitely book this place again on my next trip to Tamarindo.

We had the added bonus of staying on a Thursday where the social night is held. Maggie organised drinks and appetizers for the guests to share and meet before heading to the night market. The staff was helpful on site. Prior to arrival, however, I had trouble getting in touch with anyone for updates on the shuttle service to the hotel until I called on whatsapp. Being that it was my first time in Costa Rica, not getting a response for months gave me some anxiety and a response just to say \"we'll get back to you later\" would have been appreciated. Shuttle service booked by the hotel is cash only, to be paid upon arrival. The room is basic. We appreciated the comfortable bed, sizeable refrigerator, and patio. We had issues with the showerhead upon arrival but fixed it ourselves. It needed to be cleaned so that the water could come out. We also had issues with our toilet getting stuck a few times during our stay, which we also fixed ourselves. We did not ask the staff for help. When we asked the staff for anything, they were extremely helpful. We had the breakfast once and it was okay. The hotel was fairly quiet for the most part, however, we had construction right next to our room which went on over the course of the day - so don't expect to sleep in. Luckily most of the people staying at the hotel were quiet, but I can see how it could get loud given the set up with rooms surrounding the common area/pool.


Overall its a decent stay for the short time we were there but nothing to write home about.

Another great stay it In The Shade, even at the peak of rainy season :) I was traveling solo and this place is nice and quiet but not far from the main road where all the shops and restaurants are. They also have great food and coffee and smoothies in the morning. Check-in is easy and the staff is so very kind and accommodating. My favorite place to stay in Tamarindo and I have tried many places. Will be back again!

All of the staff especially Maggie made my stay very comfortable. As a young traveler Maggie gave advice, safety tips, and fun activities. Whenever there was a transportation concern Maggie was right on top of it with solutions. The free coffee in the morning was a cherry on top. And the safety in a city was astonishing. In The Shade is amazing!! I have been to Costa Rica 8 times now and have tried all different places, but this is at the top. The staff is all so friendly and they serve a great cup of coffee in the morning. What really makes this a good place to stay in Tamarindo is that it's very close to the main roads you will want to spend your time at, but the Hotel is very private. The Hotel is cozy, clean and quiet - what more could you ask for? Overall a 10/10 experience, hopefully I will be back!

I will say this, the property photos really help it shine! It is a very simple space, but I would stay there again. The room smelled fresh and clean and was nice and cool when we arrived. But the rooms are basic, think dorm style. However, what it lacks in luxury, it makes up for in service, location, safety, and food. There are about 16 rooms total so it is very quiet and intimate. I got to know a lot of the guests and the staff got to know us. The food was delicious! Maggie and Sandra were extremely helpful with arranging transportation and excursions even from home. They helped us plan a spa day at Sibou, kind of nearby and it was the best spa experience I have ever had. The beach is a 7 minute walk and within a 5-10 minute walk, there are tons of shops and restaurants. Tamarindo is very touristy, so if you are looking for spots that locals run, this is not that place. But this hotel is a perfect place to access what Tamarindo has to offer as well as take taxis to other locations and excursions. Breakfast was delicious every day and very reasonable. Book here if you mainly want a cozy spot to hang outside by the pool and to serve as a landing spot between adventures. I feel like I unlocked a new way of traveling outside of the big fancy hotels and all-inclusive resorts and I like it! Simple can be super beautiful and fun!

The best part about this place was how quiet it was. Lovely to sit by the pool and not hear anyone else. Location was tucked back off of a main intersection so it was very close to anything you might want, and walking to the beach was quick as well. The only thing I would wish for is at least one or two other vegan options for breakfast, but the açai bowl was delicious.

She had a great sense of humor & was very patient and even carried my suitcase from my car to my room. This place was very clean and looks exactly like the pictures.
