Buffet was horrible I would not feed to anyone made me sick and was awake all night!

They advertise the have restaurants which is true however they are not operational and act like they have no space while the truth is it’s not real I went and checked for myself.

The restaurants if they do exist are not all inclusive unless you stay 3 night and in that three nights one reservation

Very old property and the rooms were lacking preventative maintenance. Rings in toilet, spiders and cobwebs in corners, shower doesn’t drain, sheets stained, and gaps in the entry door to were ants were coming in.

Now the pool and beach front is nice, actually beautiful. So if you don’t care where you lay your head. Then it’s a great place. But if you want a comfortable place to sleep as well as a nice place. Then this is not the place to stay.

We booked three rooms and all were the same. Dirty, Old, uncared for.

Great location and property. The amenities like the pool and theater were awesome. Direct access to the beach to watch the surfers and experience the volcano rocks expanded our love for the property. The shell filled beach was truly unlike other places in the world. We loved our stay. Recommend if you want a taste of the nightlife in tamarindo as well.

The property is older but very nice. It was nice and quiet and not really a party place. Just wish they had more activities to do and the biggest let down was the location of the beachfront. Not very nice looking but in town the beach was amazing. The restaurant was decent not spectacular. I just found the staff mot very attentive almost had to always go to them for something especially at dinner. Very rarely checking up on you or filling your water or offer drinks. Did I hate it? No but I didnt exactly love it. Probably won't stay again

The rooms aren’t clean. The hotel itself is out dated. The first room they gave me was a king and I booked a double. The staff told me it’s at their discretion what they give. They then gave me a double. It was very dirty with stains on the sheets. They then switched me to another room. I woke up with ants in my bed. I was over it at this point.

The resort is small and located close to Tamarindo. The buffet and snacks were about as expected for an all inclusive with fountain pop and water coolers in central locations. I would not call this a 5 star if you are comparing to Mexico. Its likely a 4 at best. The restaurants on site were ok..better food in town. There seems to be alot of locals who show up for the weekend so the pool and beach becomes very busy however during the week the place was dead. The drink selection is ok with plenty of off brand liquor and some decent premium liquor included but items like spiced rum was considered for vip and the cost of that extra is not worth it. AC works great in the rooms as does the mini fridge. The same tired live band plays twice a day and seems to only have one set. The entertainment is very plain and basic but the people are very friendly and were easy to deal with. We enjoyed the stay but spent more time in town enjoying what Tamarindo had to offer for food and drinks. The beach area and estuary were the best part of this resort. Lots of sand and the water rushing in and out of the estuary made it fun to hang around in to beat the heat.

It’s a great budget resort. The “entertainment” staff was excellent. They bring great energy without being pushy. The gym needs help. Our sliding glass door was broken and couldn’t be locked. While at the pool, the smell of sewage was bad if the wind shifted.

That appealing but the reserve sushi and especially the Italian was dreadful. The Italian was below average ranging to actually not edible. From crunchy gnocchi soup to stale sprinkle on mushy tiramisu. Not good at all. Don't do it if you are going to serve tiny portions that are gross.

The Pacific Ocean outfront was a 10 out of 10 not a single other building anywhere that I can see 1 million shells beautiful waves… But the food on the other hand was a sad 6.5 out of 10.. I do wish you had more options. Available for dinner. Five nights at the buffet was way too much for staying 7 nights .. we found tons of restaurants a cab ride down the street… love the size of the resort it’s smaller scale, which makes it easier to get around.. Costa Rica is stunning..

Nice big room. We had a 4th floor room with 2 levels so it was spacious and great view of the countryside.

The bad:
Food was terrible. We stopped going except for breakfast by the 2nd day. Breakfast thankfully had a fresh omelette, and the italian restaurant was decent. Otherwise we simply couldn't stomach the buffet. Very few choices which didn't change and badly cooked. Thats just not right when you are paying $200 extra a night and could so easily be much better. I felt sorry for the kids that were there as the options were non-existant. They had a beach grill where you could get a hamburger cooked fresh a few hours per day, otherwise the food there looked like it had been there for days and nobody was eating it.
The bed was terrible. Old and hard. straight sheet for a bottom sheet so was crumpled up within an hour. Pillows were different sizes and makes but either lumpy or flat.
A shame really as they could make this place top notch without much investment.

I recently stayed at Occidental Tamarindo and overall found the experience underwhelming.

There were a few positives. The resort is close to the beach, making it easy to enjoy the ocean. The pool area was nice, and it was never difficult to find a chair. The resort is smaller, so it didn’t feel overly crowded. We also arrived a few hours early, and staff allowed us to store our bags and use the pool and restaurant while we waited, which was appreciated.

Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. The food was bland and repetitive, with limited options at the buffet. The policy of only being able to book à la carte restaurants once every three days felt very restrictive.

The room had several issues. The shower flooded the bathroom floor due to overspray, and the drain did not work properly. Staff cleaned the water but never fixed the drain. On top of that, even with the AC on full power, the room stayed very hot and uncomfortable to sleep in.

Service around the pool was lacking. There’s no swim-up bar, and getting drinks meant waiting in line. No staff came around to take orders. The gym also needed maintenance, as several machines were not working properly.

Overall, I was not impressed. I would rate it 2 stars and would not return.

The layout of the property was nice. The food, was ok, buffet could have used some different options day to day. The cook and serving staff were awesome. Unfortunately the only thing I found that I didn’t like was the bar staff. Long waits for drinks because they were “busy” with the younger girls and they never stirred drinks after making them. Also were very stingy on the pours, I am used to free pours at an all inclusive and these staff were using jiggers to pour an ounce. Overall, the resort was what i was looking for.

The room was excellent for us. We loved the ground-floor location that was convenient to the pool and resort center. The room was nicely cleaned daily, and a few refreshments were provided each day, even more as requested. The property location with the beach and Pacific waves is marvelous! The estuary and pristine sandy beach to the south is great for walks and hanging out, and the sunset view across the lava rock shoreline toward Tamarindo is breathtaking. The pool also - it is beautiful and perfect for spending hours of reading, or fun entertainment, or just drinking and laughing. The entertainment crew is great, as is the bar/service staff at the pool!

Most everything was up to par; the facility is beautiful, rooms were clean and well-appointed, immediate access to the beach, bar service was quick and friendly, a nice pool area and amenities, the usual entertainment. However, the food from the main kitchen was just average. Fresh fruit and veggies, the side stations for eggs (am) and pastas, and the dessert bar; all excellent. But sorry to say that some of the main dishes from the kitchen were just ok.

The rooms were clean, staff hard working and genuinely wanted to make us happy. We decided to upgrade to an ocean front room and were charged $35 US a night for this. Not sure it was worth this cost.Special thanks to Claudio, Jean Paul, Carlos and all of the entertainment staff. The evening shows were energetic, very well choreographed with alot of talent. Food was good, we enjoyed the Japanese restaurant very much. So many wonderful restaurants in Tamarindo its worth paying for a few good meals out (Antichi Sapori, Eanas, Dragonfly and Fish and Cheeses are some of our faves!). Spent hours watching the surfers on the beach...so impressive. With the surf, the beach is not great for swimming but morning walks are wonderful. And the pool is great.

Reported the AC not working properly, and no one fixed it. No offer to be moved to another room. Cleaning of room did not include anthing but new towels, when they remembered, and making the bed. Even with a tip, service no better. Pool bar snack food was horrible, dried out and cold.

This property was a disappointment. The room smelled like mold, the water would not get hot in the shower, the toilet would not flush completely, and anything that deviated from what they considered the norm, was not acceptable. The cleaning person went through my daughter's luggage and repacked, and puts things in it. We had trouble getting extra towels only upon request. And the policy of having a towel card where you have to pay $35 if you don't have it is ridiculous.

The resort is in a beautiful location right on Playa Langosto and walking distance to Tamarindo. The layout is gorgeous and the hotel staff are very friendly. The entertainment in the evening was very nice with the dancers putting up a different show every night.
This is not a five star resort. The food was very simple and got boring after a day, and the shower was never even lukewarm. We still had a great time.

Very happy with our stay at Occidental Tamarindo! First, the staff, I’ve never felt so welcomed any where else. Plenty of food and drinks. Clean rooms and facility in general. Entertainment team made a huge effort every single night and was really appreciated by us. They go above and beyond in every show with whatever resources they have.
Special mention to the tours desk in the hotel with Sibü Tours! Yusi is amazing and very personal in every interaction. The best driver ever, Manrique, is all you need when looking for a friend in an unknown destination! He’s our friend now! Francisco, the guide, was fun, friendly and informative (5 stars), and Don Diego the big boss, a very humble, pleasant and friendly guy. Such a great team!
We’re already planning to go to Occidental again!

Every thing about this hotel is Sub Par.. Everything…. As soon as we checked in we knew it was going to be a challenge, but we did give it a honest try. We wound leaving immediately from the All-Inclusive dinner and heading into town for a palatable meal. We were greeted by a wild raccoon as we were leaving the “dining room” We knew it was time to leave. We asked to speak to a manager on several occasions to end our trip immediately and forgo any additional days at this hotel. No manager or anyone from Expedia ever contacted us as they both committed they would. Very disappointing all around. Would never stay in an Occidental hotel again. Dirty, unsafe, broken locks air conditioner that didn’t work. ETC,,,,, Sub Par.

Pool: Only 1, outdated but clean
Staff: Kind, helpful and overall nice people.
Rooms: Not modern as expected for a tropical country. But very dated, you can see where they did fixtures. First room the AC dripped water from the ceiling so we turned it off and only used the fan. Made it worst so they moved us to another room with no issues. Second room was lovely, higher sealing and the AC was on the wall whether it wanted to drip or not. It just was not dripping on me.
Cleanliness is questionable and it depends on how much of a clean freak you are. The headboards, chairs, ceiling and walls had dust, dirt or spots. But my bed and bathroom had strong scent of bleach and that made me happy 😊.
FOOD: Oh boy, not sure they tried. Too salty or none at all. Just very bland food options. The options were poor. For an all inclusive there were 10 and 3 of them are different sausages at all times (breakfast lunch and dinner). The drinks were simple, alcohol proof is not high so don’t expect anything strong.
My overall stay was an 8/10 because of the entertainment staff. Very cool people who made the best of the stay by the pool and beach.

Is a very nice resort, the buffet food had a good variety. They had fruit out at every meal. The staff was very helpful. We went to italian restaurant for one dinner, the food was excellent. The service was excellent there too. The check in and out was quick. Remember to drink water, it is very warm outside, especially when you are in sun. The beach was beautiful but it has a lot of large rocks. I am not a beach person but ocean views were spectacular.

Con: condition of room, the room safe, air conditioner, outlet by coffee maker all broke, some fixed quicker than others, shower head dropped out of ceiling, bathroom fan did not work, no WiFi in room.

Everything was average, but the service is poor, but it’s my first time in Costa Rica. Perhaps, it’s that way everywhere in CR. The restaurant had less than half of the staff than other places all inclusive that we have stayed in Mexico. The bar by the pool didn’t allow people to go get a drink if we were wet which makes total sense. However, there wasn’t any waiter to take guests their drinks to the pool which doesn’t make any sense. I am used to having a few waiters take drinks to the pool and even the beach area everywhere in Mexico and a few other countries that I have visited.

The property is all inclusive and reasonable priced they bring said the beach isn't swimmable and surfing was not something we chose to do as the water was very rough. That being said, the beach is walkable and you can do all those things there. The food was not the best but we were able to find things to eat

The food/drink service staff were great, the property is small and easy to navigate. It is also close to town, walkable or you can get a cheap uber. Views of the rainforest were beautiful and it was easy to book excursions. The spa has reasonable prices and the deep tissue massage was amazing.

The front desk staff were less than helpful and refused to assist members of my group with room issues. We had 11 people in our group and we all had different supplies and issues with our rooms. Some didn’t have towels, toilet paper, lights didn’t work, etc. Front desk staff did not relay needs to housekeeping. It took over two days for toilet paper to be delivered, the front said that it was a housekeeping issue and would not provide any paper. I had to write a note to housekeeping asking for more water after two front desk staff didn’t tell them.
