The room was excellent for us. We loved the ground-floor location that was convenient to the pool and resort center. The room was nicely cleaned daily, and a few refreshments were provided each day, even more as requested. The property location with the beach and Pacific waves is marvelous! The estuary and pristine sandy beach to the south is great for walks and hanging out, and the sunset view across the lava rock shoreline toward Tamarindo is breathtaking. The pool also - it is beautiful and perfect for spending hours of reading, or fun entertainment, or just drinking and laughing. The entertainment crew is great, as is the bar/service staff at the pool!

Most everything was up to par; the facility is beautiful, rooms were clean and well-appointed, immediate access to the beach, bar service was quick and friendly, a nice pool area and amenities, the usual entertainment. However, the food from the main kitchen was just average. Fresh fruit and veggies, the side stations for eggs (am) and pastas, and the dessert bar; all excellent. But sorry to say that some of the main dishes from the kitchen were just ok.

The rooms were clean, staff hard working and genuinely wanted to make us happy. We decided to upgrade to an ocean front room and were charged $35 US a night for this. Not sure it was worth this cost.Special thanks to Claudio, Jean Paul, Carlos and all of the entertainment staff. The evening shows were energetic, very well choreographed with alot of talent. Food was good, we enjoyed the Japanese restaurant very much. So many wonderful restaurants in Tamarindo its worth paying for a few good meals out (Antichi Sapori, Eanas, Dragonfly and Fish and Cheeses are some of our faves!). Spent hours watching the surfers on the beach...so impressive. With the surf, the beach is not great for swimming but morning walks are wonderful. And the pool is great.

Reported the AC not working properly, and no one fixed it. No offer to be moved to another room. Cleaning of room did not include anthing but new towels, when they remembered, and making the bed. Even with a tip, service no better. Pool bar snack food was horrible, dried out and cold.

This property was a disappointment. The room smelled like mold, the water would not get hot in the shower, the toilet would not flush completely, and anything that deviated from what they considered the norm, was not acceptable. The cleaning person went through my daughter's luggage and repacked, and puts things in it. We had trouble getting extra towels only upon request. And the policy of having a towel card where you have to pay $35 if you don't have it is ridiculous.

The resort is in a beautiful location right on Playa Langosto and walking distance to Tamarindo. The layout is gorgeous and the hotel staff are very friendly. The entertainment in the evening was very nice with the dancers putting up a different show every night.
This is not a five star resort. The food was very simple and got boring after a day, and the shower was never even lukewarm. We still had a great time.

Place is ok. I wouldn’t stay again though. It’s not actually all inclusive unless you stay more than 3 days. Buffet food is pretty bad even compared to other all inclusives. Beach is ok but not great unless you’ve never surfed anywhere good before. Very beginner waves and rocky. Amazing place to watch sunset though that’s the biggest plus

Very happy with our stay at Occidental Tamarindo! First, the staff, I’ve never felt so welcomed any where else. Plenty of food and drinks. Clean rooms and facility in general. Entertainment team made a huge effort every single night and was really appreciated by us. They go above and beyond in every show with whatever resources they have.

The best driver ever, Manrique, is all you need when looking for a friend in an unknown destination! He’s our friend now! Every thing about this hotel is Sub Par.. Everything…. As soon as we checked in we knew it was going to be a challenge, but we did give it a honest try. We wound leaving immediately from the All-Inclusive dinner and heading into town for a palatable meal. We were greeted by a wild raccoon as we were leaving the “dining room” We knew it was time to leave. We asked to speak to a manager on several occasions to end our trip immediately and forgo any additional days at this hotel. No manager or anyone from Expedia ever contacted us as they both committed they would. Very disappointing all around. Would never stay in an Occidental hotel again. Dirty, unsafe, broken locks air conditioner that didn’t work. ETC,,,,, Sub Par.

Rooms: Not modern as expected for a tropical country. But very dated, you can see where they did fixtures. First room the AC dripped water from the ceiling so we turned it off and only used the fan. Made it worst so they moved us to another room with no issues. Second room was lovely, higher sealing and the AC was on the wall whether it wanted to drip or not. It just was not dripping on me.
Cleanliness is questionable and it depends on how much of a clean freak you are. The headboards, chairs, ceiling and walls had dust, dirt or spots. But my bed and bathroom had strong scent of bleach and that made me happy 😊.
FOOD: Oh boy, not sure they tried. Too salty or none at all. Just very bland food options. The options were poor. For an all inclusive there were 10 and 3 of them are different sausages at all times (breakfast lunch and dinner). The drinks were simple, alcohol proof is not high so don’t expect anything strong.
My overall stay was an 8/10 because of the entertainment staff. Very cool people who made the best of the stay by the pool and beach.

Is a very nice resort, the buffet food had a good variety. They had fruit out at every meal. The staff was very helpful. We went to italian restaurant for one dinner, the food was excellent. The service was excellent there too. The check in and out was quick. Remember to drink water, it is very warm outside, especially when you are in sun. The beach was beautiful but it has a lot of large rocks. I am not a beach person but ocean views were spectacular.

We had to move rooms due to the noise from the night entertainment until 1 am and loud guests leaving the disco walking by our room. Avoid building 4. Second room was great on the opposite side of resort but matresses were very firm. Food was decent but we ate out periodically. Pool and beach were nice more for surfing not swimming.

Everything was average, but the service is poor, but it’s my first time in Costa Rica. Perhaps, it’s that way everywhere in CR. The restaurant had less than half of the staff than other places all inclusive that we have stayed in Mexico. The bar by the pool didn’t allow people to go get a drink if we were wet which makes total sense. However, there wasn’t any waiter to take guests their drinks to the pool which doesn’t make any sense. I am used to having a few waiters take drinks to the pool and even the beach area everywhere in Mexico and a few other countries that I have visited.

The property is all inclusive and reasonable priced they bring said the beach isn't swimmable and surfing was not something we chose to do as the water was very rough. That being said, the beach is walkable and you can do all those things there. The food was not the best but we were able to find things to eat

I had to write a note to housekeeping asking for more water after two front desk staff didn’t tell them.

We had a fantastic vacation with our family. The rooms are clean and the property is well kept. The beach is beautiful, but the water was rough. If you want to enjoy a calmer water you can walk or uber to the town beach it’s beautiful and close to the resort.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoy that they had juice stations in the lobby and at the snack bar, so if you were thirsty you could help yourself anytime.
The food was delicious and had a great variety for everybody. At breakfast I absolutely enjoyed the smoothie station- all from fresh fruits.

The facilities were nice and kept clean. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The only downfall is the food. Yes its a buffet, the food is a 6 out of 10. It didnt have a lot of flavor and they served a lot of the same things for all three meals amd everyday. After about three days you are totally burned out. I was only able to eat at the Italian resturant once. It was a very good experience. The food there is gaood. Overall i would stay there again but only for a few days.

The air conditioning in our room did not work upstairs. The housekeeper was terrible. She would take our clean & dirty towels but not replace them. We called 3 different times asking for towels and they would tell us they would be delivered within 5-10 min. They NEVER came. We would have to flag down the housekeeper or attendant for the mini bar to ask for towels. Also, in our upstairs bathroom, the ceiling leaked from the air conditioner so we would have to use our towel. Meant to go for the shower and put it down in the middle of the bathroom floor to soak up the water that was dripping from the ceiling.

I did like the beachfront area, with all the lounge chairs and proximity to the ocean. Towel service was nice, but the rooms left a bit to be desired. Showers didn’t have doors, so the floor got soaked. Thin walls and floors and ceilings, so could hear everything of our neighbors. Phone in the room didn’t work For at least 24 hours while we were there and we weren’t notified until we went to the front desk to ask about it, and then they told us they were aware and would fix it tomorrow. Was also not a covered walkway for us to get to our room through the torrential downpour without getting soaked, and very slick marble stone steps to climb to our room. So, be prepared to be exposed to the weather with your luggage. The food and drinks were ok. Bottom shelf liquor and 3star buffet meals included. Flies in the outdoor buffet near the beach, since it is left uncovered. The pool and hot tub were nice and big.

Great spot for a family vacation in Tamarindo. Good location, close to town, about 15 minute walk, but secluded from night life and noise. Staff were super friendly. We love playing beach volleyball in the evenings with the entertainment crew.

We had a fabulous birthday week at Occidental Tamarindo!! This was my 2nd time staying here. Lots of fun for all. Our favorites were bartender Alan & server Karen!! They put the special touches on great service to keep the party going. And my spa treatment was to die for….AMAZING!! Enjoyed our stay! A lot of the reviews commented on the rooms, I personally thought the rooms were nice. However, we were missing some towels and robes, but it wasn’t really a problem for us. It’s not the most clean - we had some dirt and marks on the sheets and the towels were a little old. But again, we weren’t expecting anything crazy. The shower water would be cold around dinner time, probably because everyone else is also showering and getting ready for dinner. Just don’t be expecting a super luxurious stay!

Food options were horrible, we checked in at 3:15 but the lady was soooo slow helping the person infront of us that we had to wait 45 minute and they said okay you can eat dinner at the restaurant tonight just need to make a reservation so we said okay can we make the restaurant and she said no we only take them till 4:00pm. You can eat at the snack bar at the pool which was chicken nuggets and French fries. Even the next day when we were able to go to the restaurant which a reservation the food was extremely limited in options they only let us order off of half the menu and then charged us extra for it even though the resort is all inclusive.

This place is passable. It's on the beach, has a good pool, and the sunset just outside the hotel is stunning. Unfortunately, I couldn't help but feel like the hotel cut corners. The food was decent at best, the staff seemed overworked and unappreciated, And they kept running out of things at integral parts of our trip. Truthfully, I was disappointed in Expedia for listing this as a 4 star hotel. It could be, but issues need to be addressed before I would agree with them.

The buffet experience fell short, with inconsistent water service and table settings. Towel supply also varied during our stay, with hand towels or face cloths occasionally missing. The basic rooms are just that…so if you are just looking for a clean comfortable place to sleep because you want to lay out by the pool/beach and not think about food, this is a perfect place. The Occidental Tamarindo is one of a handful of All Inclusives in Costa Rica. Keep in mind if you’re looking for a Mexican Style “let’s get wasted resort” this is not what you’re looking for.
The pace is relaxed and the food at the buffets is local style. If you want steak It’s good but it’s also Not tender like American/Canadian beef.
They rate the resort 4/5 stars, really what you have are rooms that would be 3’s, they are ample size comfortable and clean but they were never finished with that 5star building quality to warrant 5 stars.

The only thing missing is a swim-up bar. Try the Piccadillo at breakfast. Leo on the beach can sign you up for FANTASTIC tours. Adina, who is part of the wait staff, is the absolute best. Always friendly and goes above and beyond.

Occidental Tamarindo Stay
The check in process was not the best. I arrived at 12:30pm and didn’t get a room until 430pm. Thankfully Stephanie at the front desk was able to get me a room at 430pm so I could prepare for sabbath. I got a floor on the first floor and then Stephanie was able to get me a room on a higher floor after sunset on Saturday. I was a bit surprised that as gold members I couldn’t get early check in nor could I get late checkout.
The rooms weren’t very clean, in the first room, the shower pooled with water and the water didn’t drain very well. The second room it was better but the bed sheets were wrinkled and the bed wasn’t very comfortable.
The food at the hotel was excellent. I really liked the food and the variety. The snacks were limitless and the beach was also nice. Amazing sunsets. The beach seemed to stretch forever close to the airport and close to activities.
