Well located on a beautiful stretch of beach, but what makes the difference at Ochos Bungalows are the people. First smiles and greeting from Sue Elene, beach and bar friends Giovani, Jimmy, Gabo and Vlad, with fresh fruit cocktails and mocktails combined with friendly conversation. And checking in with you all the time is Ilse. You can't go wrong joining this family for some R&R on the beach!~

We have never had a more relaxing vacation! It felt very White Lotus without any drama where everyone takes the best care of you and you feel like family at the end. Food was excellent, service off the charts and accommodations were straight out of paradise. A few feet to the pool, a few feet to the beach! Breakfast was included and was so generous that we really only needed one more meal each day! Your choice of daybeds, loungers, or cabanas wherever you would like as they say it’s ‘your home’ for the week. Thank you Vlad, Danny, Kenya, Gio, Ilse and the rest of the team for a dreamy trip!

Ocho Artisan Bungalows was fanatastic! My partner and I were there foir 3 nights, but wished we had more time!

I was a bit on edge as we got there - it's on a dirt road, no lobby (just an office), and no one had ever heard of it! so I wasn't sure what we were walkiing into.
But, we were immediately greeted by Ilsa and Seyu (sorry about the spelling) - who made us feel totally welcome.
The bungalows are completely unique - very modern amenities, but with an airy and artistic feel - almost like a tent (but it's not).
The pool area is an oasis of calm and quiet - surrounded by luscious greenery, complete with daybeads - makes for a very peaceful day in the sun.
The beach and beach club are great. We had round oversized day beds reserved for us - and the staff moved umbrella's so we were in the shade. The beach is incredible - beautiful sand, big waves to play in. Along with that, there is great food and delicious drinks - and Tanya, in her cowboy hat made everything even better!
This is a small place and the best part is the staff - isla took such good care of us - it was like being part of a family. We really appreciated everything that she did for us.
This is not a generic hotel - so if you are looking for a standard big chain - this is not it. But, if you are looking for a small, intimate, beautiful resort with impeccible service and attention to detail - this is the place to be. Couldn't recommend it enough!

Very unique place, artsy, non-corporate, delightful. Bungalows had covered porches with very comfortable outdoor furniture, including tables, couches, fans and lighting. AC worked great. Ilse and her staff are incredibly responsive and go out of their way to make this a wonderful and welcoming place. Breakfast is right on the beach but in the shade of trees and umbrellas. Walking distance (5 min) to vibrant downtown with clubs, excellent restaurants and shopping. We ate at the hotel’s small beachfront restaurant several times in additional to breakfast (which included lots of different tropical, costa to an, and American breakfast options). Wildlife is all around including monkeys, egrets, a crocodile (fenced out), and we saw an iguana in the trees.

Our bungalow was a beautiful sight, and we had the privilege of seeing monkeys, raccoons, and even a crocodile! The restaurant area offered a breathtaking view. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, remembering our names and making sure we had everything we needed. Sue was particularly great—friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we required. Ilse was amazing, going above and beyond to make each day of our stay special. She provided recommendations, engaged us in delightful conversations, and made us feel truly valued. To celebrate my 40th birthday, Ilse elevated the festivities by decorating our room while we were away. She also spoke to the chef to prepare our catch, and dinner was simply delicious, complemented by the rest of the food. We had an incredible time here, and Ilse truly made our vacation unforgettable. If you’re visiting Tamarindo, we highly recommend this place!

Everything at Ocho was amazing, the customer service went above and beyond to make it have a family feel and that we were always taken care of. The rooms were amazing, breakfast every morning was delicious, the beach club and restaurant was one of the best on the beach with great music. The location is extremely close to all restaurants.I felt super safe which was something I worried about being right on the beach but the rooms are very protected. I have zero bad things to say about this place, 10/10 experience and would HIGHLY recommend staying here!

Location was perfect on the beach at the end of the restaurant strip , easy to walk along the front but not too noisy. Wow - what a magical time! I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Pri and Zula were INCREDIBLE - the best service and absolute kindest people. Gabriel at the bar was also exceptional - everyone staffed was so kind, warm, and friendly. We felt truly at home :) The rooms are absolutely gorgeous, bed is comfortable, and so charming/unique. Super safe area and the food at the restaurant was incredibly delicious - the fish and chicken tacos were some of the best bites we had on our entire vacation! The grounds were also gorgeous and we loved the pool and overall vibes. Would 100% come back and highly recommend Ocho to anyone visiting the area!

Our stay at the bungalow in Costa Rica was absolutely exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the entire team made us feel completely at home. I wish I had captured everyone’s names, as each staff member contributed to making our experience so warm and memorable.

Ilsa was outstanding — she greeted us with genuine kindness and made us feel as though we had known her for years. We enjoyed every conversation with her, and on the day of our departure, she even arrived early to ensure our van was ready so we could leave on time. Her thoughtfulness and dedication were truly appreciated.

Priscilla did a wonderful job surprising us with beautiful honeymoon decorations and a romantic dinner setup that made the evening unforgettable. The attention to detail and care she put into every touch showed how much pride she takes in creating special experiences for guests.

Raziel was another highlight of our stay. He checked in with us daily, always ensuring that we were comfortable and well taken care of. His friendly demeanor, attentiveness, and professionalism made every meal a pleasure.

Every member of the team went above and beyond to provide a personal and welcoming experience. The service, warmth, and genuine hospitality we received made our trip one we will always cherish. We truly felt like we were leaving friends behind rather than just a vacation spot — and we will definitely be back to see our new friends again soon.

The staff was warm, attentive, and friendly, and they immediately addressed any issues that arose. The secluded, intimate property in the heart of the bustling surf town was exactly what we sought for a 5 day/4 night stay. The pool was a plus, and the tub in the room was a nice place to relax during any rain showers that popped up. The property is walkable with direct access to the beach, a food truck park, and the rest of town. Right on the property, we saw monkeys, iguanas, and other wildlife. We would stay again, and we highly recommend Ocho to anyone looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating vacation.

Bathrooms were very moldy, and the rooms smelled moldy. The Glass on the windows is very thin, so you hear everything, including the local clubs all night. Sat down for drinks the first day and was hounded by my local salespeople. I think within an hour, we had 15 people walking up from the beach to sell us trinkets, and the staff did nothing to run them off. They joked and laughed with them and gave them drinks. It made it extremely hard to relax in the restaurant area when you have to tell someone no multiple times every 3 minutes. The entrance to the hotel is also very sketchy. Our driver was like, \"Are you sure this is it?\" lol Other than that, it was okay. If they fix these issues, they would be worth the price. But the mold smell and mold on the doors are overwhelming.

My spouse and I were overcharged for activities such as massages, transportation, and a catamaran. We pre-booked with the owner of Ocho, and learned later that they overcharge and it’s better to work with the team on site or to book them yourself. Very disappointed, because the actual staff on site were warm and welcoming. Our bungalow had mold/fungus growing on the ceiling. Poorly sealed bungalows lead to more moisture and creatures/bugs getting inside. We would not recommend this establishment and we will not be returning. Nothing was offered to rectify the issue. Lesson learned, research and book activities on our own next time in CR.

I’m not even sure where to start with our recent 8 night stay at Ocho. My husband and I had our first trip to Costa Rica and after staying at the Bungalows, I don’t know how we will ever vacation anywhere else. Everything was BEYOND top notch.
Bungalows: exactly as pictured! Beautiful and private with all of the amenities you need. The housekeeping staff works tirelessly to make sure they are immaculate! The grounds are kept spotless and the pool is also beautiful.
Location: Ocho is in the heart of Tamarindo, but when you walk in the property, you feel light years away from any city life. The bungalows are situated ocean front so you can wake up for beautiful morning beach walks as well.
Beach Club: The food at the beach club is so fresh and fantastic! The fruit is to die for. Breakfast each morning was filling and so tasty. Choices included Eggs Benedict, fruit and yogurt parfaits, French toast, pancakes and traditional American and Costa Rican breakfasts. Lunch and dinner were just as good!
Service: The service at Ocho Bungalows is what truly sets it apart from anywhere I have stayed before. Staff takes care to learn your name and likes/dislikes on day 1. They instantly make you feel like family while sharing their culture with you. I celebrated my birthday while there and Gio, Pamela and Priscilla went out of their way to make it absolutely perfect and amazing during a romantic beach front dinner. Both Gabriel’s, Bryan, Leny, Priscilla, Zuly, Gio, and Pamela were AMAZING!

Great little boutique hotel, staff was very nice and helpful. The food was surprisingly great, just didn’t expect it for a small beach front hotel. Pool was quite with a picture frame view of the ocean. We stayed in the beachfront bungalow, which has a nice outdoor seating area. It is a little small for two couples, which we were, but doable. Close walk to town for other choices to eat or shop.

The staff are very nice and friendly but are not very knowledgeable on tours as someone external is planning these things for guests rather than the staff in site. We were not highly impressed by a request via PayPal for deposit on tours or constant barraging of strange numbers messaging me.

It is highly unprofessional of a property to message guests to send money to them via PayPal .

The price of accommodation does not reflect the property at all. It is not worth what you pay for. It is essentially a 3 star.

Breakfast options don’t have açaí bowls, which is what people want in that type of weather.

The pool is nice but we saw a guest smoking marijuana near the pool. This is more of a hostel vibe rather than a 4 star accommodation. At no point should an accommodation allow a guest to smoke cannabis.

For 200-250£ a night, guardian uk recommended it , I don’t believe it to be worth this

We stayed at Ocho a few weeks ago and I'm still dreaming of it. It was by far the best spot on the beach and I loved the manager's dj play lists and even shazamed them so I could save them! Very chill vibe on the beach and really a perfect location there and then literally a 3 min walk to town. There was also a very cool food truck park right behind and I wish we wouldve ate there more! The bungalows are fantastic with so much charm and rich CR wood. We just loved everything about it. The staff was fantastic... Gio was by far our fav and even saw us out one night. He was so fun and attentive. There was a lady behind the bar that was very bubbly and friendly and another waitress (curly hair) that was so sweet. The food was fantastic, the pool was under utilized by us and everyone really but was very nice and peacefull. the front desk ladies always had good suggestions and were very friendly as well. I would highly recommend staying here and can't wait to come back.

The property was everything I was hoping for. It was beautiful, quiet, peaceful. But what we loved most was the amazing and hospitable staff that was so friendly, and eager to make us happy at any time day or night. This was by far our favourite vacation. The staff at this location were amazing! This property is in an excellent location, offering easy access to the beach and a perfect spot to watch the sunset. However, the hotel itself could use some improvement in terms of room cleanliness and overall presentation. We did enjoy an impromptu DJ show during our stay, and would say based on our experience, it seems the property caters more to a younger, party-oriented crowd. Helpful staff, just not our vibe.

Unsafe hotel- management not on site at night. We were unable to communicate with anyone despite multiple attempts to express our safety concerns and left in the middle of the night. There was no support from the hotel as we tried to cancel the reservation, and finally had success with our credit card company months later. I would strongly advise you check out Jardín del Edén Boutique Hotel. We were fortunate to stay there for the remainder of our stay in Tamarindo. Best wishes to all traveling. Pura Vida!

This beautiful unique little boutique hotel has the friendliest staff and owners that we have experienced. Each bungalow is slightly different in layout, decor, size and location; you can feel like you are in your own private rainforest surrounded by ginger plants, palm trees and some small animals. Or you can have your own beautiful view of the pool and beach. The on-site restaurant has top notch food and drink and a tasty breakfast is included with stay. We loved having the Tamarindo beach right in front of us with many sitting offerings from lounge chairs to swinging beds to enjoy the beach air, sun and view. On site concierge is available. If you want a change from big resorts, this property has everything without crowds.

Wonderful place to stay. My bungalow was fabulous with a great view and comfortable bed. What really stands out is the staff. They are so friendly and kind.

The staff was super friendly when we needed help getting a taxi to go outside of town. There was also a situation where a drunk man followed us and the hotel staff helped protect us. They also provided great recommendations and the complimentary breakfast and welcome beverage was a perk. The bed was also extremely comfortable! Thank you!

Amazing hotel, if you get the right room!

Wonderful stay began terribly & ended badly too;but everything in between was great.Beginning:we were alarmed to read more than 1 review re guests had booked&paid more for \"luxury pool front bungalow\" but they were not given one of the two pool front bungalows.We had paid more for this too..We arrived & were taken to our bungalow:NOT pool front; instead one near the back of the hotel,with road behind. We refused it but the staff said nothing they could do. After standing our ground getting nowhere,we demanded they gave us the room we had paid for or money back:6 nights £300+per night.More staff got involved,phone calls made;40 minutes later the occupants of our correct bungalow had been moved out, & we had correct luxury pool front room.To be fair, staff were apologetic & when we said this happens a lot doesn't it? they looked embarrassed & said the owners & their daughter do the bookings & they are not on site.Anyway after that GREAT food (including 7 vegan options for dinner),very good service,especially from Jimmy in charge of the restaurant, on the beach. Breakfast watching the waves & sunsets in the evening were incredible too. Breakfast menu was good;as we are vegans chef was happy to help with our vegan requests.Only criticism is only 1 drink included with breakfast is stingy. Our room was lovely, clean, pool was refreshing, day-beds comfy &available.Location perfect.Owners got our leaving date wrong,no apology. Due to owners errors have to mark down to 4 stars.

The property and our actual bungalow was eclectic, artistic and beautiful. The resort is located very central, and walkable to so many restaurants and shops. This property is on the beach and the outdoor restaurant has swinging chairs, benches, gazebos under romantic lighting, as a DJ plays soothing music in the evening. We stayed in Bungalow 8 which was large, decorated uniquely with some Asian decor. We loved it !

This was my second time staying at this property. The first time was great however this stay was tainted. When we arrived I placed an envelope containing 1300 US dollars in the safe (the safe had a lock with a key not a pin pad). On the 3rd day I went to get cash out of the safe for a private boat tour and noticed over 400 dollars was missing. The safe was kept locked at all times when we were not in the room. I reported it to management and we were compensated with a complimentary boat tour.
The property is nice and in a great location but be cautious with putting valuables (money, jewelry, etc..) in the safe. I would not stay at this property again.

Ocho Artisan Bungalows is a lovely property with great bungalows and a beautiful pool, restaurant and beach. Those who work there are very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner was the best that we experienced in Costa Rica. The surrounding area of Tamarindo is quite loud with pulsing music late into the night that you can hear loudly in your room. We also had a small amount of money taken from our room which we reported to the front office. Hopefully, they do address that issue as there are so many lovely people who work there.

Ocho Bungalow Zen Retreat

Ocho Bungalows was a fun, out of the ordinary experience. You enter off a dirt road , where most people would never expect to find a hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful as we arrived. The bungalow was surrounded by trees and very rustic. If you are expecting luxury, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to be close to nature you are in the right place. The property had a Zen camp ground feel. We saw howler monkeys, raccoons (on our roof and patio), squirrels, iguanas, and many birds. There were some pests such as ants in the room. Bug spray was provided. There is even a
Crocodile estuary right behind the pool. The free breakfast was wonderful. We also enjoyed the drinks, meals, and beach chairs and umbrellas provided at the outdoor restaurant.

The beachfront location of our bungalow could not be beat! We enjoyed listening to and watching the antics of a group of Howler Monkeys in the trees above our bungalow. The restaurant food was very good. We enjoyed every meal we had there and also liked the walkability to many other beachfront restaurants. The bungalow itself has a unique Bohemian feel. We also enjoyed the nightly music and fire shows. As far as the service,Miguel, Miya, Sebastian and Jose were top notch. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but the vibe here is very warm and welcoming. I wish we could've stayed longer!

Unique property in the area right on the beach. It's a busy beach but long and beautiful. The property feels secluded.The bungalows were very private and beautifully decorated. They are a bit rustic but feel luxurious with welcomed air conditioning. The staff were helpful in booking excursions. The breakfast included was generous.
There was an on site DJ but we did not have the experience during our stay. I would recommend a stay here.

We absolutely loved our stay at Ocho! While the photos made the property seem larger and more luxurious than it actually was, that was only a small hiccup in our stay. And I only mention it because if you are very picky and want sumptuous luxury, Tamarindo isn't the place for you. I wanted to get an authentic feel for the country and Ocho didn't disappoint. The bungalow that we stayed in was quaint and cozy as well as very clean.
The staff is phenomenal. Miguel, the GM is an absolute superstar. He made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and continued to be an absolutely perfect host for our entire stay.
Ocho Artisan Bungalows gives you the feeling that you are in the jungle with nature while actually being in town. We walked the beach and soaked up the sun for days. Amazing!!!!
Miguel organized a seafood feast for my birthday and the chef deserves a five star review. We never had a bad meal at Ocho. It is undoubtedly the best place to stay on the Beach in Tamarindo...maybe the best place in Tamarindo period!
We are back in Canada missing our new friends at Ocho and really missing the stunning sun and sand. Thanks to those at Ocho for making our stay memorable and very enjoyable.

Positives about Ocho Artisian Bungalows…The staff was great, very friendly and helpful!
The place is a very good location in Tamarindo on the beach.

Negatives…The bungalow we stayed in could use some work. There was no hot water when we got there, they did fix it the next day but the shower was only a dribble to get hot water the whole time. The AC went out the next night, they did fix it and it worked great after.
The food was only ok and there are better restaurants walking distance.
There was music with bass pumping close by a couple of nights until 5:30am!! We didn’t need a quiet getaway but that was ridiculous.

We did not think Ocho Artisian Bungalow is worth the money we paid to stay here. That said, it did look like they were doing some renovations so hopefully they realize there is some upkeep to do.

We had not been to Tamarindo so were unaware of how busy it would be. We chose this place because it seemed to be away from the crowds. The bungalow was great and well equipped. It could use some updated items and maintenance but it was rustic and we were prepared. The door did not shut completely, the lights were bright at night and the music was shaking until at least 2 am each morning and we were further away from the on sight beach club. The food was really great and the setting was beautiful. Everyone that worked there was extra nice and accommodating. If you prefer quiet, this is not it. And, it says adults only but there were kids in the pool. Overall, it was good for a couple of nights. We had booked 7 nights but only stayed 4 due to the noise and lights.

Bungalow 1 is very nice. Clean, & new.
There was no fridge or refreshments/snacks as stated on website. No welcome drink either.
The thing that will prevent us from returning, is the loud, non stop music ALL NIGHT. Unfortunately we didn’t know there are music festivals etc at various times of the year.
It is a VERY busy area, in my opinion more geared towards people who want to party all night and all day on the beach. Perfect location for those folks. Unfortunately, we won’t be back.
