Good ac. Lots of ants in room and bathroom. Uncomfortable beds and pillows. Owner and his wife very nice and helpful. Dirt Road to town is hilly and full of pothole. Some Ubers won’t go up to the hotel.

The property is beautiful and very unique, surrounded by trees. We stayed in a lovely two story colorful bungalow that had a kitchenette, a balcony with great views and a patio with a plunge pool. Each bungalow is very private thanks to the heavy jungle foliage and the large mango trees. Every morning a large Iguana stopped by to say hello. There is a larger pool area in the hotel where you can get wine, beer, water and drinks and you jot down what you took (it’s an honor system). Steve, the owner, is a wonderful host and was very helpful and caring. He took care of our transportation and had many great tips. Marta and the other staff were very warm and helpful. Breakfast was very good. It was an easy walk to town and to the beach. Overall it was a wonderful stay!!!

We had a nice stay overall, with a mix of highs and a few quirks. The space itself was nice and private, and we really loved how quiet and tucked away it felt—perfect if you’re looking to relax. The beds were comfortable, and the AC worked great, which made a big difference.

There were a few downsides worth noting. We encountered a couple of spiders in the room and quite a few ants (though they do provide bug spray in the bathroom, which helps). We also had unwanted visitors at night including a raccoon and a skunk was very close….too close. The room had a slight cat odor, and the private pool/tub unfortunately wasn’t working during our stay. The outdoor pool area is definitely not a highlight. The walk to the beach is longer and a bit dusty, so we ended up renting a golf cart—which made getting around much easier and is something I’d recommend.

Breakfast has recently shifted to a more continental style, I wish we knew this prior because it wasn’t enough unless you start the mornings with fruit (which was fresh and do yummy) and toast. the coffee was fantastic.

Overall, everything was fine for an “budget” hotel. But I’m looking for something a little different on my next visit to Tamarindo. Lastly, the owners were always around and willing to help, which we appreciated.

The owner is incredibly kind and helpful. He gave us great dinner recommendations and went out of his way to check in with us whenever he saw us. Room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and portions were generous. It was a 5 minute walk to town and being removed from the center of things made our nights filled with animal noises instead of people noises. Highly recommend this wonderful property!

This is a very nice boutique hotel -it is off the main road which we liked a lot but also means tough walk up unpaved road and stairs to access rooms. Not a negative but something to be aware of. Rooms are big and private and lots of towels! Continental breakfast just ok but can order off very affordable menu for a great breakfast made to order that was excellent. We had a great stay!

Wonderful 17 days at Hotel Tamarindo Village. Steve and Martha are wonderful hosts. They arranged our transportation to/from the airport (a reasonable $100 for a 90 minute one-way trip). Martha connected us a with a great tour guide who took us to the rainforest. Highly recommend the two story suite. The patio is incredibly private and the plunge pool is wonderful on a hot afternoon. The hotel pool is wonderful as well. Only warning is that the last part of the walk from beach and town is uphill and may be challenging for some. The reward is a very private and quiet hotel experience.

Great location, close everything, so many steps to get to the room we stayed at the bungalow, which is upstairs had no AC, very hot and very hard mattresses. It was very hard to sleep on those mattresses.

This felt like a little quiet private piece of paradise off the beaten path in Tamarindo. The grounds were so lush and very well maintained. Everything was as expected. Our room was the basic booking through Expedia and far exceeded our expectations. It was huge, nicely decorated and the stone shower was very cool.
The owner and his wife were very helpful throughout our stay. They even arranged for reasonable transportation to and from the airport to the hotel.
We loved the short walk to the main streets of town. It helped keep us moving and we were lucky enough to see Howler monkeys in the trees overhead.
A great small and reasonably priced place to stay in paradise!

We really enjoyed our stsy. There were 4 of us and we stayed in the room with the bedroom in the loft area. We spent a lot of time on our patio and our little pool as it was very hot. Staff were very friendly. We were a little disappointed that after we booked we found out that the free breakfast was not including the hot items which the pictures had been a selling feature for us. But, the continental was fine. All is sll a great stay. The property is on a hill so you get a great workout. Only a 10 minute walk to the beach and from the core area. Restaurants were close by. A great quiet location. We would recommend this place.

We loved our stay at Tamarindo Village Hotel. My family chose one of the rooms with a second bedroom loft. It was located at the top of the hotel on a hill. I felt like I was in the jungle, removed from the tourists of town, yet we were very close (walking distance) to shops/grocery/restaurants and the beach. My favorite was that we had a private small dipping pool on our deck. Monkeys were playing in the trees daily. A large variety of birds were present as well. The entire property was very clean and well maintained. The owners keep the appliances up to date and the kitchenette was perfectly stocked with everything I needed but not too much. The breakfast was lovely. $7 for an ample amount of delicious food, or the buffet items are complementary. I love peaceful simplicity when I travel, and Tamarindo Village Hotel exceeded my expectations. We would be lucky to stay again.

Quiet oasis.

Located in a quiet area peaceful area away from crowds. I view this as a retreat or writing a book.
Room was nice and clean with a balcony. Small issue with the toilet, but was quickly remediated by owners (very nice couple, wife is very caring). Basic continental Breakfast (fruit, coffee, juice and toast) but they make to order if needed
Surrounding can use some upgrades. It is not the \"Marriott Marques\" as some of the feedback from the owner.
Nice access location to the beach and local restaurants.

We really enjoyed our stay. We were there for a week in late May (\"rainy season\") and pretty much had the place to ourselves. Even though is it technically a hotel with multiple units, it felt more like visiting friends. We had two units for our group of six (couple in their 50s with four kids aged 22, 20, 19, 15) and both units were clean, well maintained, and quiet, with powerful air conditioning. Steve and Martha could not have been nicer or more helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy and enjoying our time in Tamarindo. Martha served up delicious breakfasts every morning and arranged excursions for us (night time turtle tour, day trip to Nicaragua, estuary tour, and sunset catamaran cruise). Yes, the hotel is located uphill from the beach on a bumpy dirt road, and yes, there are stairs to climb to get to the rooms, so this place is not for anyone seeking luxury or who has mobility issues. You might find some bugs or even a lizard in your room but if something like that does happen, you can be sure that Steve and Martha will be there to help. We were very comfortable here and never felt unsafe, even when making our way back to the hotel late at night. If you are a go-with-the-flow kind of person (ie - Pura Vida), this is a great choice for you.

Very cute property. The three of us liked our two bedrooms (queen, king, and bunk beds) with small kitchenette. The property has a security gate so we felt quite secure (most all the properties seem to have this - it seems to be a Costa Rica thing). The units are spread among several small buildings that ascend a hillside so there is an inclined path (and a few stairs) leading to most of them. Its very beautiful with much shade due to the many mature trees and bushes. Lots of flowers. The pool is small but refreshing. Breakfast was in the covered area next to the pool. There were a selection of 3 made to order options each morning plus juice, coffee, fruit, toast, etc. The area is quiet and the wall unit ac's with remotes worked great - though the bathroom is not included in the a/c area and has screen only windows to let out the humidity (or let it in!). We left the doors to the bathroom closed. The roads up the to property (along with the others nearby) are mostly dirt with a little gravel, somewhat steep, and last bit is bumpy. It was fine for our AWD vehicle and probably would be fine for a 2 WD vehicle. The walk to the beach took about ten minutes. Hotel is in a quiet area away from all the congestion and shopping but easy to walk if you don't mind a little dust and inclines (on the return from the beach/shopping area). Owners are very nice. We enjoyed our stay. Oh! And the wifi was excellent! Best of the four hotels we stayed in in Costa Rica.

This is a beautiful boutique hotel. The setting is impeccable. Rooms are located in a group of twos, with a total of only 11.

There's a lot of steps to climb to get to your room. But, the setting of the rooms rewards you well.

The access to the hotel and room is not easy. It involves some unpaved roads and climbing a few steps.

Our family spent a lovely week at this hotel. The rooms were clean and charming & the beds comfortable. The atmosphere is soothing and intimate with the cottages hidden in beautiful flowering trees and green vegetation. The owners and staff feel like family. Martha and her team served us delicious breakfast each morning and was very helpful in setting up excursions. Trevor was always so accomodating...available to make coctails by the pool and answer any questions we had. We loved the location - just a 7 minute walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and bars in Tamarindo, but such a quiet oasis to come home to when we wanted to recharge. We will be back!

Hotel Tamarindo Village was a perfect little stay just outside of the loud hustle and bustle of downtown Tamarindo. We stayed right next to the pool and loved the room, very spacious and the open air shower is a very unique touch. The owner was always present or one text away and was very attentive to our every need.

Look- if this property didn’t have pictures when you were booking it was probably be really exciting when you got there. I feel like the love of this property from the owner has been lost. I was most bummed about the patio which is 100% the reason we booked here. It does not look like the pictures anymore unfortunately and it is not a hot tub but a cold tub which with the heat in Costa Rica it was whatever. The first morning at 730AM we woke up to construction directly outside our bathroom that continued for each morning of our vacation- 3 nights. There are no windows on the bathroom so it was like the workers were in there with you. The water pressure works sometimes- one morning our toilet wouldn’t even flush. Not sure if that might just be something common in older properties here. Our WiFi only worked day one but we honestly stayed busy most the time we just let it be.
This property just needs a little TLC from the owner who I 100% believe had passion for it when he purchased it but just has lost it.
I struggled with the stars because if I had zero intel on this property I’d probably give it at least 4 stars. But given we book off of pictures so we were completely expecting something more updated and maintained, plus the very loud construction not a single person warned us about beforehand that brought the overall rating down.

What a Lovely Little Oasis

We happened upon this lovely little hotel after our plans changed last minute and we ended up in Tamarindo. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. The room was spacious and had everything that we needed. We were situated next to the pool which had a lovely covered seating area where we spent a lot of time sitting and enjoying the beautiful trees and flowers that surrounded it. A hot breakfast was available every morning and the food was very good. They also had tosst, cereal and fruit available. There was an honor bar located next to the pool which was great when you needed a beverage but did not want to walk to the store. This hotel was a little off of the main strip but it made it very quiet and the walk into town and to the beach was not bad at all. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area.

My husband and I just returned from a 1 week stay. We wanted a more personal & authentic experience in Costa Rica. We picked Hotel Tamarindo Village because it was family owned & operated, not a fancy major hotel chain.
The breakfasts were amazing! Martha and the staff were so friendly and accommodating us on recommending and arranging excursions. We got just the right amount of excitement, relaxation, with a person touch and affordability.

This hotel is a boutique hotel situated on multiple levels so expect a lot of stairs to some of the rooms. We stayed in a 2 level room with an outdoor jetted tub surrounded by lush plants and a balcony where we could see the ocean. It was almost the top highest room on the property. I counted 49 steps not including a few slopes. The property is located somewhat near town.

Hummingbirds, iguana, grackles, a crab and butterflies visited the property. Breakfast was free with made to order fresh cooked food. Each day had a different set of dish options. All of the employees and owners are very nice and helpful.

The hotel appears to be hidden. It is on a dirt road that is not completely shown on Google street view. We walked everywhere to restaurants, shopping, and the beach. A small grocery store was nearby next to a bank with an ATM. A golf cart rental shop is located at the paved road closest to the dirt road up to the hotel. The dirt road has many bumps, and ditches. It is a challenge to drive on it without scraping the bottom of a vehicle. A golf cart will tip a lot but is doable up to the property entrance. Tour companies did not have trouble finding the hotel and will pickup at the front entrance.

The only improvements I would suggest are handrails for a few spots that did not have them, better draining in the shower (the hotel is aware of it), and the sliding door into the room needs repair as it is difficult to open and close. I would stay here again.

Loved everything about the property. Only a 5-7 minute walk to the beach, but it is also quiet and feels secluded which was really nice. Zoe, Steve, Martha (owners) were very personable and helpful, they helped us get acquainted and settled in and made it feel like home. The room was cleaned nicely every day. The breakfast was great, and every morning there were different options. Last but not least, Bingo the cutest little puppy would run up and greet us every now and again, wagging that little tail of his, and we could not get enough of him. Subtle hotel stay for those who are not scared of a little wildlife entering the room, primarily the bathroom (mainly ants). Hot and tasty breakfast served everyday, which you’ll appreciate once you see the prices around nearby cafes/restaurants. Steve (the owner) was very kind to me and my wife, and he explained everything we would need to know for our stay effectively in a 2 minute window. 4-4.5 star stay all things considered.

Perfect Boutique Mini Resort!! Individual bungalow type rooms with daily service. The outdoor (open top with screen enclosure) shower and bathroom was a great experience if your ok with trying something unique on your vacation. The staff was great and attentive from arrival to departure.

The hotel is not new but definitely well maintained and clean. The resort is beautifully located up high and surrounded by a forest type setting, hence Costa Rica! The resort is on a slope with lots of steps but definitely not difficult by any means and bug spray should be considered.

Everything was close but definitely recommend a car as the roads are unpaved. We had no issues finding places to eat and shop. Lots to do especially with the beach just minutes away.

We stayed with a group of 10 with 4 bungalows. Breakfast every morning was awesome and and a great start to your day.

Highly recommended... We loved our vacation there and will definitely return!!

Upon arrival we were greeted by the hosts who were extremely friendly and accommodating. All staff were great to deal with.

The pool and free breakfast were extremely convenient, and the beds and air conditioning made our room a great place to relax after a long day. The hotel has a very friendly, family run atmosphere, and we enjoyed getting to see the Cat and Puppy running about the property!

The location is a little off of the main road which made for quiet nights, and peaceful mornings to hear the birds. The balcony was a great addition to our room.

I would absolutely stay here again hopefully in the future!

If you prefer a nice smaller hotel compared to the mega resorts, this the place for you! It’s set on a hill just a few minutes from everything. The property is lush with greenery and feels very private. The rooms are clean and, while not fancy, nicely appointed and clean. The bed was comfortable and the room had more than we needed. The pool is lovely and a delicious breakfast was served every morning poolside. With only 11 rooms we got to know other guests and chatted with the owners often. The owners made us feel like guests in their home rather than a hotel. It was such a nice stay!

The owners and extremely friendly and can help you with any local tour or dining questions. It is a little bit of an upward climb up the dirt road coming back from downtown but you will get used to it after a day or two. It’s worth it for the location just away from the busy downtown but close enough to wal there and to the beach.

Best Stay in Tamarindo

Its a beautiful family run boutique hotel. We took the ocean view and private cooling pool room and it was wonderful. Clean rooms, comfy bed and amazing outdoor shower area. Breakfast has limited options, but is homemade and tasty. Steve and Clara are very friendly and have excellent tips for going around Tamarindo. It is around 15mins walk from ground zero. Will definitely stay again on our next trip.

I liked everything about Tamarindo Village but especially enjoyed the peaceful and private setting. I was traveling solo and stayed in #2 and initially felt like I was being indulgent with the size of the room but quickly gave myself permission to enjoy the tranquility of the accommodations. Owners were on site, very friendly and fluent English speakers. I was about two weeks into a trip and had developed certain questions about the area that they were able to help me answer due to my limited Spanish. The layout of the various rooms and suites into the hillside is different than most places in the area. Thankfully I like that but if mobility was challenging for you this might be something to consider. Clean, comfortable, friendly, private, all top notch. Mature landscaping allows you to feel like you’re in the jungle or above the canopy. I plan to return and personally do whatever I can to not stay at any one place twice.

From the moment we stepped into the reception area and met Trevor, we were greeted with warmth and charm. His welcoming demeanor made us feel like old friends, setting the tone for a delightful stay. The hotel itself is a true gem, surrounded by lush greenery, vibrant plants, and towering trees that create a serene atmosphere.

Our room, number 1, was a haven of tranquility. With a spacious window and a large sliding entrance door, we were treated to a picturesque view of the sun filtering through the branches and leaves of the surrounding trees. The melodic songs of birds added to the enchanting ambiance, gently caressing our ears each morning.

Each day began with a delightful surprise as we perused the menu featuring three different breakfast options, all brimming with fresh fruits and local flavors. It's evident that this is a family-run business, with Trevor's California roots shining through in the impeccable service and attention to detail. It's a refreshing departure from establishments solely focused on profit, as here, hospitality is paramount.

Situated atop a hill, the hotel offers both seclusion and convenience. A mere five-minute stroll takes you to a plethora of excellent restaurants, while a leisurely ten-minute walk leads you to the stunning beach. The well-lit alleys provide a sense of security even after nightfall, allowing for peaceful nighttime strolls through the charming town.

In summary, our stay at this hotel was nothing short of magical.

Amazing stay! This was our first trip to Tamarindo and Costa Rica. We loved the villa we stayed in (number 11), with our own private plunge pool, loft area and balcony. The main pool was always clean and very quiet. The breakfast daily was delicious with lots of fresh fruit, juice, coffee along with a cooked hot breakfast from the menu. The grounds are kept very tidy and the staff are super friendly and accommodating. Lots of stairs as this hotel is built on a hill. About a 5 minute walk to restaurants and groceries, and an 8 minute walk to the beach. We can’t wait to stay again! Thank you Trevor, family and staff!
