The room was in good condition, but things were old, but it was clean and it was comfortable. Had a nice fireplace. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was OK. Dinner was all right. Breakfast was fine however, the hotel is located in a very remote area and to get there, we had to travel on a very steep narrow curvy road that took us a very long time and then as we made the turn to get to the hotel, the road was unpaved and filled with potholes and really craters, and the 4 miles took us nearly an hour to travel so we arrived to the hotel is in the cloud forest. It was totally fogged in. We could barely see it. Luckily, there were some lights on. It was rainy, drizzly, foggy and chilly. I think it has a beautiful views if the clouds were to clear, but they didn’t during the time we were ther The landscaping around the hotel looks very lovely but again we couldn’t really walk around because it was. it was too foggy , damp and drizzly. The hotel was expensive and I don’t think that it was really a good value for the money we paid for it. We wouldn’t return here.

Place to Relax for Nature Lovers

Quiet, Nature, Relax but no pool. The overall experience was excellent if you are wanting to disconnect and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature. My wife and I enjoyed walking the trails (in the morning due to rainy conditions later in the day). The grounds were well kept, and the rooms were simple and clean. We toured each room category, and found them to all be spacious (even the queen room). The rooms with whirlpool tubs were nice if you like that sort of thing. The whirlpool in the suits can fit two people of average size. The Silencio, family, and presidential have two bathroom; one with whirlpool and the other with roomy shower. I think for two people, the JR would be perfect and the queen a bit smaller, but nice as well. Most all rooms face the forest with no view of the mountains or valley. The exceptions are the Silencio suits 34 & 35 which have a nice view of the chapel. Also, we understand that cabin 16 has a nice view of the valley and mountains although we did not visit this room personally. The presidential is a splurge and would be nice for someone who needs to conduct business. It is also the only room we saw with a screened patio looking out to the forest. The JR suit room has a slightly elevated patio which is unique to this room. If you need a covered patio to sit outside (private), book a suit. If you don't then a queen or twin will suffice. We found all of the restaurant food to be great with nice presentation (specialty coffee high price).

Amazing place to stay, feels like literally living in the clouds. Weather can be a little unpredictable and adds to the mystique of the place.
The last 30 mins of the drive to the place can be a little rough, recommend getting there before sunset on your first time.

Absolutely no way this is a 4 star property. Our room didn’t even have a chair. The only place to sit was on the bed! There was no TV, no mini fridge, no desk, no AC, no power outlets near the bed. Didn’t even have a toilet paper holder! This room may have been a 2 star accommodation. And the ROAD…… The road to get to this place was literally 5 miles of potholes. This was the worst arrival experience at any hotel.

Tucked away, a long bumpy road to get back there. Once there very quiet small resort and very friendly staff. Not so many people, more older adults on our trip. Restaurant on site was excellent, very reasonable prices. Fireplaces in the room was a nice touch for a very rustic experience.

The Villa Blanca is an out of the way oasis. However, the road to get there is a Costa Rican nightmare. The new owner hopes to rectify that in the future. The food was very good and service very attentive. There are few activities here, but a wonderful way to relax for a day or two.

Very personable hotel. Everyone was super welcoming. Things the hotel offers: game area, movie theatre, frog/plant area, you can milk a cow in the morning, get body massage. The food in the restaurant was very good, we looked forward to eating there and it never disappointed us. I recommend the night tour (and I hate bugs) but it very educational and cool, the guide was great. There is a trail to walk around the property on your own as well. The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. The road to get to the hotel was in poor condition which was a bit annoying. We stayed 1 full day and a night and it was just enough, but we like to rush things, so perhaps another day for someone who likes to enjoy the quite time.

Villa Blanca Cloud Forest is amazing. The drive, albeit beautiful, is long and bumpy- and will have you wondering if you have made the correct decision on where to stay.
Once you arrive you will realize that you have entered a unique experience unlike anything else. The grounds are impeccable and amazing. The staff is great. The rooms, adorned with handcrafted local hardwoods are unlike anything you have seen before.
A must visit- words cannot describe this place.

so I loved this hotel the first few nights. But there is a lot of stuff that I need to warn others. There's nothing to do here besides a few nature walks. There is a lovely fireplace in each cabin and the cabins are lovely but there is a very very long and bumpy ride to get to the villa. I literally cringe thinking about this 45 minute road just to get access to the property. The service is great, the food is great but it's all very VERY expensive. If you do not have a car, transportation is expensive. There is nothing within walking distance. So most people are at day tours all day. There are no activities other than a night tour and a tour of the property. Is it gorgeous? Yes. But there is no sun. It's rainy or misty all the time. Yes, it's a cloud forest, but I just say, BE AWARE that if you expect other things to do, there's nothing but a pool table. There's a mini cinema. But it's wet and damp. Food is exceptional, but be prepared to pay a fairly decent bill. I still give this place 5 stars. It's unique, but it's not a place for a 7 day visit.

They all knew my name, say hi every time we met and made things really confortable and easy. The reserve is huge and worth the walks through the woods. The setting is very pretty. Breakfast and dinner is great. They have a really good chef. The entire staff needs to be praised. Nice nature reserve onsite with good tour guide. The rooms could use some minor upgrades. Overall a very nice relaxing stay. Also the massage therapist is very good. Milking a cow in the morning was one of the highlights.

Great Resort in an Amazing Mountain Setting

Spent two wonderfully relaxing days and nights at this resort. I have never been better tended to by the staff of a hotel. They truly want you to enjoy every moment in their beautiful cloud forest setting. Nils, Gustavo and Luis were all terrific in helping my wife and I have a great time.

If there was one area that I feel that could be improved I would say that not all items on their dinner menu measure up to the quality of the service. In spite of this minor issue this was one of the best stays I have had in recent memory.

I’d strongly recommend Villa Blanca to anyone visiting Costa Rica that wants to experience a cloud forest.

Staff were fantastic along with the cocktails (there's a happy hour), food, environment and facilities of the resort. It is far away from any meaningful town so to experience the area you will need to hire a car (as we did) or engage with the tourist companies that the hotel services. Our cabin had a fireplace which we tried to use but we found it was blocked, so filled the room with smoke quite quickly! Expect lots of moths and weird insects (which will come into the cabins as they have gaps under the doors and you are right next to a rainforest) but no mosquitos.

Wow! This place is amazing, lovely views and homely feel, comfy bed and love the rocking chairs in the living room / patio. who needs a TV when the views and wildlife are this good!

We explored the hotel trails and research centre by day and participated in the night walk, all great tours with enthusiastic guides. Hotel reception is a lovely place to finish the day with a drink and sunset view before heading to the restaurant for some local grown food!

The resort is located in the middle of a cloud forest and there is about 4 km of walking trails through thick cloud forests. That is really cool. I wouldn't suggest spending there more than two nights since there is not enough to do in the near vicinity. Our room was really in need of refurbishment, and linen and towels need replacing. The local restaurant is great for dinners, breakfasts are mediocre. The stuff is excellent.

Great affordable tour but mediocre room and restau

The superior casita was just big enough for 2 and nothing special, although the bathroom was nice. The tours wth Estaban were the highlight and only $30 (less than other places on our trip). Sadly the food was not very good yet pricey and the waiters were pushy. I'd recommend to go and enjoy the cloud forest tours for a day and support the reserve, staying overnight to make it easy logistically.

Amazing view!

Villa Blanca is beautiful, peaceful, remote, and a little bit boring. Google maps directions were wrong, but there are several faded signs to help you find the resort. I wouldn't want to arrive after dark!

There's one restaurant, kind of fancy and expensive, but we ate there because it's so far to drive to town. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch and some snacks. We walked all the trails, saw the entire resort, milked the cow, and watched a movie in the same day. The view is amazing! You can see for miles in every direction. If you're staying longer than 24 hours, plan on either relaxing with very little to do or paying for tours. There's no pool.

Our room had a king bed, two twin beds, a fireplace, mini bar fridge, a patio with chairs, jacuzzi tub and a separate shower.

Breakfast was a buffet with omlets made to order.

Villa Blanca is a peaceful place full of natural beauty. It is a place to disconnect with the outside world. The check in was so welcoming as each person is handed a drink and a warm scented towel, very nice touch especially since the drive to this location is a distance from San Jose. The food was good not exceptional, the home made jam and fresh juice at breakfast was great. The view from the restaurant and main lobby was spectacular. Our room was clean the bed linen was of high quality and our jetted bathtub was amazing! The walking trails were perfect for viewing a variety of birds and beautiful flowers.

This is not the easiest place to get to, but well worth the effort. The views are spectacular and a nature tour organized by the hotel was fantastic. Rooms are on the rustic side, but more than adequate. Food, dinner and breakfast were first rate.

Everything was perfect with and at the hotel: super friendly, hard working, super nice staff; incredibly clean casitas (cabins), the restaurant and the outside property; very very beautiful, serene views of the nature; yummy food. The reception staff received us as though we were their own relatives; we also were given a yummy and refreshing free drink made of fresh fruits, and a warm towel to wipe out our hands and faces:) Our luggage was delivered to our casitas right away. The roll out bed was available upon request.
There are a few free trails that you can take( we took the one to see hummingbirds). Some of our friends went to the right side of the church to catch s trail to the little farm right there.
I have no negative comments; everything and everyone was just amazing.

A beautiful hotel, 1h from San José. The restaurant is astonishing, as is the scenery. Amazing for couples, the \"honeymoon suite\" is great for the price. There's some trails for having a relaxing walk. Did I mention how good the restaurant is?? There's a little cinema, and a place for milking cows.

The pictures on Expedia do not make it justice... Those are terrible representing the place. Almost all rooms are separate, the pictures are from the lobby area, and the place is considerably big. The hotel is a bit isolated from the road, and the inner road is in acceptable condition.

This was a recommendation from a friend. It was a great recommendation. This hotel is one of the best hotels that I have had the pleasure of visiting in Costa Rica. The physical property, the location, the history, the animals and especially the outstanding service of the staff make this a \"must not miss\" on a trip to Costa Rica. I had a car problem and needed help from the staff to fix the problem. They were there to help for whatever I needed and the problem was addressed and fixed quickly. We will make many more trips here and will tell all of our friends.

A beautiful and delightful surprise

We came to Villa Blanca as a recommendation for a place to stay half way from San Jose to La Fortuna. We had no idea how wonderful our one day stay would be. We took the nature hike with a knowledgeable guide and that was inspirational to say the least. The grounds and views were unbelievably beautiful including a full rainbow over the valley at dusk. Our casita was cozy with the fireplace lit at night. The staff was among the best and most attentive and welcoming we've ever experienced. And the food...oh my goodness! Gourmet!! We will return and the next time it will be for a lot longer than one night. And did I say...all of this while being in an ecological preserve unmatched...my name is John Jump. I cannot recommend this resort highly enough! Ps: don't miss the chapel

Wonderful and Authentic Costa Rican Experience

We loved everything about Villa Blanca. Most of the food you eat there is from their own gardens, and their staff was so knowledgeable about the local area and all the wildlife/reptiles we saw in the area. Everyone was so kind and helpful. From the time we booked the hotel until the minute we left, we were in constant contact with the staff and they did everything they could to make sure our stay there was everything we wanted it to be. We would most definitely go back to visit, and we will tell all our friends about our stay there.

The Best Hotel I have stayed in Costa Rica

I have visited Costa Rica seven times over the last 30 years. My sister and I had dinner there about 25 years ago. I am now living here and decided to take my wife to Villa Blanca for her birthday. We stayed for one night. I can attest to the hotel/restaurant being the best experience I have had in Costa Rica!! The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to attend to your every need. The cabinas are kept spotless! Each one has a fireplace which you can enjoy during the evening. The grounds are well kept and you can go for walks on the trails to see the flora and fauna, especially the beautiful humming birds. We had lunch there and watched the Costa Rican soccer team win their World Cup game. Dinner was excellent and well presented by the chef. They grow their own vegetables there! The staff presented my wife with a small cake and sang Feliz Cumpleanos (Happy Birthday) to her! Overall, I rate everything about Villa Blanca as EXCELLENT!!

the hotel and grounds were beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, if you don't have a car you are pretty much stuck at the hotel. There is not a lot to do at the hotel. It is quite a distance from the town and taxis were expensive. the meals and sundries at the hotel were priced pretty high since you had no options to go otherwise. i think the hotel should provide a low cost/free shuttle service into town.

when booking hotel reservation, wasnt clear that this hotel was located quite a distance from anything. In order to get there from airport required a very expensive shuttle, If you wanted leave on your own, either taxi service or shuttle was very expensive also. When we tried to book a tour through hotel, we were told there wasnt any availabilty for the next three days due to a large tour group there. This required us to go on our own somewhere, where the cost was really high. We had no water in our room on second day, to take a shower and it took til the next morning to get it. The views there were nice and it was a very tranquil place. I would not recommend going there unless you are with a group of people, to be able to do all the tours
