Classic buildings and beautiful grounds, in a lovely quieter area. Staff are super switched on - Eva, Wayang and Angel in the restaurant were terrific. Darma and Dama were also winderful. But everyone was an ‘extra mile’. Loved it. Hope to be back.

All good, but probably a little over-rated
Clean, relaxing stay at Alila Manggis. Different experience staying so close to the sea. At night, I could hear the strong waves crashing onto the breakwater fronting the resort. Service staff was impeccable - they tidied our room twice in a day! I think they also made it a point to know the names of guests and the room they stay.
The only little hiccup was that our booking came with breakfast included. However, upon check-in, and at both mornings that we went for breakfast, we were informed we didn't have breakfast included. After explaining that we had, they checked and promptly resumed their service without further probing. Some miscommunication there, perhaps, but it would have been good if this didn't happen.
Walk out to the warungs and spa just outside of the resort for more authentic local food and massage though (at a fraction of the price in the resort too).

I love everything about this hotel. The design is elegant, minimalistic, and timeless. The grounds are stunning; the pool view alone is worth a visit. The thing that really makes the Alila stand out, though, is the staff. The service is impeccable. Everyone goes out of the way to make sure you’re taken care of, but the thing that sets this hotel apart from other amazing hotels is that it comes from a place of genuine care. The people who work there seem to treat looking after others not as a job but as more of a calling. It’s extraordinary, really. I think it’s part of what makes you feel so relaxed while you’re there. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I’d say that staying at this hotel is positively soul filling. It’s one of my all-time faves.

I stayed superior room and suite. Superior room was adequate with spacious outdoor sitting area. Suite was a fantastic with sea view, huge balcony and big bathroom. Hotel ground, huge swimming pool, restaurant and bar were absolutely beautiful right by the sea. I was happy that my toddlere was able to run around. Absolutely amazing from start to finish!
The service is brilliant and there are lots of lovely extra touches. The (free) yoga and tai chi sessions were great, it was only my boyfriend and myself taking part both times. We watched a movie outdoors on our first night, had (free) tea and cake by the pool every afternoon. The food in the restaurant is superb; breakfast, lunch and dinner! We did the snorkelling excursion which was lovely and they had a picnic breakfast waiting for us on the boat when we got out of the water. Easily our favourite hotel ever. Can't wait to go back!

What we were looking for: Secluded, relaxing beachside resort for a young professional couple.
Pros:
Seaside location with lovely restaurant setting overlooking the ocean and fishpond;
Spacious pool and ample deck chairs to relax bedside during the day;
Attentive staff, who respond to and act on feedback;
Palm tree studded grounds look great lit up at night;
Plenty of restaurants in nearby Candidasa accessible by free shuttle that both the restaurants and hotel provide;
Hotel arranged snorkeling trip was great.
Cons:
Dated-looking grounds and room fittings;
'Superior' (downstairs) and 'deluxe' (upstairs) rooms are essentially identical save for level;
Neither room type has curtains, important for privacy given they all look out onto the pool (management tell me these are to be installed);
Cold breakfast and lunch from the in-house restaurant - cold nachos, cold eggs, cold steak - unfortunately this happened again even after we spoke to staff;
Construction noise beside the pool (ocean bar being built Oct
2017);
In-house restaurant expensive by Australian standards;
Expensive hotel washing service unable to remove usual stains or smells from clothes;
No usable beach to enjoy.

Well used facilities with excellent staff
Staff were very kind and friendly. We got an offer to stay last night at Alila Ubud which was relley fun. Facilities were Well maintained but old. Air conditioner was weak and noisy.
On Expedia web site, transport service between airport was \"US$45 for round trip\" but actually charged the amount for one way.

Lovely stay in east Bali
The Alila Manggis is an older hotel on the seafront (no beach) with lovely established gardens and very good staff. The rooms are simple and quite sparse - nice but not large or luxurious but they have everything you need. All rooms look out onto the lovely pool. The food was generally good but we were very disappointed in the Balinese BBQ night when there were just too many guests in the restaurant - cold food, very poor service and not good value. Spa treatments were very good, but be careful with the spa escape package - it was the only item anywhere in the hotel that we saw that was priced in US dollars and not Rupiah - not sure why!

I was initially booked into this hotel for a few evenings... however after the first night I was awarded a full refund.
We were upgraded to a \"deluxe\" room which included air conditioning that is preset by the hotel to not go below 23 degrees, which made sleeping an uncomfortable experience especially as the room is right next to a stagnant water pool and the bathroom window had a gap that allowed the mosquitos to access the room freely. The rooms also look quite old (there were various cracked floor tiles) and offer no real privacy unless you wish to close the curtains (which are basically solid wood doors over the windows).
Despite wifi being advertised with the room there was none! except for 1mb download speed and when questioned with the staff they said the speed was low in the area.
The facilities are average with space by the pool or dine at the hotel's restaurant. Unfortunately if you want to relax elsewhere in the resort there is nowhere else to stay unfortunately unless you count the lobby.
The view from the \"beach\" is of massive tankers on the horizon and a burnt out shrine covered in tarpaulin, I use the term beach loosely as the stretch of beach is tiny and visually in accessible from the hotel itself.
On the plus side the food was pretty good when compared to other resorts.
But that was about it.....

Amazingly Serene and Beautiful Setting!
Amazingly serene and beautiful setting on East coast of Bali; simple rooms with super comfortable beds and wonderful sea and pool views from large balconies or ground terraces. Breakfasts and dinners were of a very high standard and served by super friendly staff. Meet and greet at the airport was more like Hide and Seek - but I have forgiven them for that slip up! Overall very good value especially given the great rate I got on Hotels.com

We really enjoyed our stay at the Alila Manggis, the staff were excellent, the meals were very good value and the breakfast a great way to start a very relaxing holiday.
Nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly, (but not overbearing) staff, special dietary requirements were catered for and they were happy to arrange excursions and tours as required.
We used the free bikes to explore the local area, and walked the beach and local streets taking in the environment and local culture.
The overall ambience is one of relaxation with most of the guests there for the same reason.
Nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly, (but not overbearing) staff, special dietary requirements were catered for and they were happy to arrange excursions and tours as required.

Our friends got married at Alila Manggis so we chose to stay at the resort. The deluxe suite was spacious, incredibly clean and had an amazing view of the resort's grounds and ocean. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We couldn't fault this place and were sad to leave.

We had an upstairs bedroom which I would recommend as it has a better view and has a day bed on the verandah and we found ourselves spending a lot of time there.
The room is well finished and the bed extremely comfortable.
Generally the food was excellent, but the fruit was sometimes surprisingly tasteless.
The spa was beautifully situated overlooking the beach, a screen allowing the fresh air and sounds of the pounding waves to penetrate the room. I had a pedicure and a Balinese massage, both excellent.
The ample pool is important as the beach is sometimes nonexistent owing to the high tides and the sea is not always inviting to swim in.
The room is well finished and the bed extremely comfortable.

Wonderful hotel
This was our second stay at the Alila Manggis. This is a lovely hotel, beautiful grounds with a great outlook. Nice pool, terrific restaraunt, rooms are very nice, well equiped, all with ocean views (get a room on the second floor). The staff are wonderful, friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. My partner was sick during our stay and they bent over backwards to be helpful. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful Boutique Hotel
Beautiful grounds and a lovely hotel to just chill out, with excellent service. Not much around (for walking/wandering) but there is a shuttle into \"town\" (not much there either - good to grab toiletries, eat out a couple times or get a cheaper massage). Definitely splurge for the upstairs rooms as the patio is much better for lounging, but the lower rooms give you super easy access to the pool and still have nice views. We ate at the hotel many more times than I would have expected because it is really that delicious.

This is my second visit to this property and I absolutely love the serene atmosphere. Staff was kind enough to serve our breakfast poolside which truly added to our experience.
There is no real beach access and this property might be a little slow for those looking for more action but for a romantic getaway, it is perfect. We spent hours on our veranda, overlooking the pool and the sea.

Thoughtful well-designed place near the sea
We had an amazing experience with this well-designed hotel which has all the amenities and activities that one would like, eg, spa, cycling, yoga, jogging, etc all at friendly prices.... Alila ensures you will never be bored with their wide-ranging activities. We did the snorkelling trip and it was simply fantastic! The friendly, ever so helpful and chatty staff gave the stay a more human touch. A lovely experience indeed!

No beach but right on the sea. Nice refreshing breezes and good pool, but with minimal occupancy, it seemed that the pool facilities were fully used (what happens when they have higher occupancy?). The whole offering felt a little 'tired' although it was once a well designed very smart hotel. Rather smarter than some of the places in Candidasa, but a LOT more expensive so pretty poor value for money.
Some of the staff seemed competent and friendly but this was not universal. Just one little story. At breakfast each day the chef had prepared an 'amusee bouche' in the form of three small pieces of fruit per person, each with a really interesting sauce on the top that produced a stunning flavour mix. Clever, simple idea. However, no-one thought to train the poor girl who was given the job of serving it! Consequently she was serving them face down, so the whole effect that the chef had intended was lost - such a shame. Not the girl's fault, I hasten to add, poor training! It probably tells you a lot about the place: nice people, not really thinking through their offering and still charging quite a lot by local standards. The only time we saw management was as we left - that was a bit strange too.

We stayed just one night at Alila Manggis before we heading to our next diving site, but the service was the best for all my stays in Bali. The manager was so kind to welcome us when they doing our check-in. They provide complementary afternoon tea. You can enjoy it by the poolside. We had a nice special east Balinese dinner there. We had a reservation right after the dinner. We thought we had all the courses when we sign the bill, but when we were waiting at the spa reception, the staff from the restaurant kindly brought the dessert have't served to the SPA. We stayed here for only a few days on a quick break from Singapore - in this respect the hotel was ideal: quiet and relaxing with exceptionally friendly staff and not too far from the airport at Denpasar. Most of our time was spent lounging by the pool, which is set in a coconut grove between the sea and the main hotel buildings. The food was excellent, and the hotel chef prepared a delicious meal with the fish that we caught on a morning fishing trip. We stayed in the basic \"superior\" room which was perfectly acceptable for a short break. We were personally greeted and made to feel welcome by the manager which was a nice touch. The pool is very shallow at the sides making lengths impossible, so if you want to do any real swimming beyond just paddling around, you'll be a bit disappointed. We used the hotel's own airport transfer which worked well.

The staff at Alila Manggis were friendly and extremely welcoming. All of the staff provided excellent customer service and made our holiday one to remember. The room was clean and had all the necessary - if somewhat basic - facilities. There were four of us in total and we dined at the restaurant for three nights out of the seven. On the first two nights the food was delicious. The third night was disappointing and so we decided to venture into Candidasa for food. This was a wise decision. We saved a fortune and ate at restaurants such as 'Vincent's' where the cost of the meal was half the price of what we had been paying at the hotel. The hotel is in a great location and is perfect if you want to relax to the sound of the waves. My wife had a massage at the resort and loved it (highly recommended).

Wonderful service, staff very polite, restaurant A1 quality, small but clean rooms, good gift shop with body products made locally. We have stayed there four times now and keep going back when we visit Bali. It is a quiet gem. Lots of things to do if you want eg trekking, snorkelling, yoga, cycling, cooking, visit to Ubud and then elephant park etc or just sit by the pool and look out to the bay view.

First, the good points. nice beach and pool view and landscaping. Great bench on balcony of rooms on the second floor with view on the property. good location to explore the east coast of bali. negatives: hotel is dated. The staff and owners of this hotel do their best with what they have. Bathrooms are 3 star and need refurbishing. No sink in the bathroom but instead in the bedroom, so you must like brushing your teeth next to your bed.the property is small an right next to the main coastal road. The beach has no sand and is heavily eroded. The rooms have the smell of damp that you find in properties of a certain age near the sea. Don't expect luxury.

There could not be a more responsive, kind or willing staff. The property, however, has aged and is in dire need of a renovation. I was very surprised by the high ratings (Jetsetter, SniqueAway, etc.), surmising it is a reflection of the terrific staff's efforts.
Having back problems, I awoke nearly unable to move due to the horrible condition of the mattress. There are no comforters, bedspreads, etc. Nothing sets the rooms apart, indicating it is in the luxury category where it is ranked. (Luxury demands extras, and there are none).
The sofa is a cheap indoor/outdoor foam form placed upon a concrete platform (as is the bed), with a hard bolster pillow. There are no accessories, in-room amenities, etc.
I had only 2 TV stations, and the reception was so poor the images were difficult to make out. While I was not in Bali to watch TV, it is important to keep up with news.

Excellent hotel with quiet surroundings
We stayed for two nights at alila and it was fantastic! We didn't have to go out to search for food outside the resort as the food there was very delicious! rooms were clean and spacious, the swimming pool was big and beautiful. We did a spa treatment and it was authentic Balinese massage,very comfortable. The surroundings were quiet and peaceful and we had a great getaway from the hustle of city life

We visited with a family friend and 7 year old child. As return visitors we were again delighted with the beautiful setting and comfortable and aesthetically designed rooms. The staff were again charming and attentive. The main drawbacks are i) the lack of options for dining outside the hotel. I felt too that the inhouse restaurant has slipped in quality since our last visit. ii) the swimming pool is way too shallow for standards these days. Positives, we had a walk through local area and saw the hotel organic farm which was fun. Snorkelling trip while also fun had an element of disappointment with the floating debris in the water. A trip to the white sandy beach 30min north of the hotel is well worth the trip. Finally, games of badminton and afternoon tea on the lawn were absolutely delightful.

This hotel was absolutely one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. For me, it was absolutely perfect. Quiet, beautiful, and impeccable service. The manager literally made a point to check in with every guest daily to make sure things were ok. The room was comfortable and all had gorgeous views from with a private balcony or patio (on the first floor). You have read in other reviews about THE FOOD and they are all understated. The food here was incredible and worth the stay alone. The breakfast every morning and chatting with the delightful staff made for a very special stay. Thanks to everyone at alila! It is worth checking out the \"white sand beach\" nearby too.

The Alila Manggis is a really special place. It is perfect for those who would like a quiet, relaxing holiday amongst like minded travellers. The management and staff are magnificent, the food exquisite, and the setting sublime. It attracts diverse nationalities, mostly
European, which we enjoy - having spent the first part of our trip elsewhere in Bali enduring the antics of a very loud group of fellow Australians. This area of Bali is for those wanting to experience the Bali of yesteryear - not the Seminyak of today, so if you are looking for brand name shopping, bars, nightlife, this is not the place for you.

Alila Manggis - away from the hustle & bustle
Beautiful grasses grounds surrounding pool overlooking ocean with coconut palms and tropical island feel. All rooms overlook pool and ocean but the Deluxe rooms on the second level have a daybed where you can relax in the afternoon after spending a day in the sun. Rooms are nice but fairly basic. Staff were fantastic and very helpful and friendly. Restaurant was very nice but if you are staying for a number of nights a trip into Candi Dasa is close by with some really good restaurants. Tours arranged by hotel were fantastic and very reasonably priced, we did the fishing in a locals fishing boat which my husband thought was awesome the bonus being he caught some Jackfish and Kingfish which the Chef prepared for us for lunch which was beautiful. We also did the snorkeling which was fun and the Rice Paddie & Jungle Trek finishing in a local village which was also fun being that my husband hates walking or Trekking but found it really interesting with fantastic views and the tour guide very informative. To top it all ... Great place, definitely return again.

I have been reading a lot about the Hotel on the reviews , and to be honest i found it much better than what i expected , i went there in October the weather was perfect ( too much humid though ) .
The Hotel is perfect , the room ( Superior Room ) is clean and tidy and big enough ( remember this is not a suite in a 5 stars hotel ) , the TV is not good at all , but actually i didn't use it that much , The bathroom is very convenient to the place and it just gives the same sense the place does.
The hotel service is excellent , the SEA SALT restaurant which is located in the hotel is offering a good menu but the it is a little over priced than other restaurants located outside the hotel.
The Pool is very Nice , and the Sea ( no sandy beach ) is good too but it is not the best , and the Hotel keeps offering complementary drinks as long as you are on the Pool side .
I really enjoyed the Trip and i would love to go back there again.

A great away from it all escape
The hotel was a haven of peace amongst the coconut trees. Staff were attentive and friendly, and every request was met with good nature and a desire to ensure that we enjoyed ever ymoment of our holiday. The only slight disappointment was the price of hotel meals. We used the hotel taxi to visit Candi Dasa restaurants at less than half price, saving substantially on the cost.
