Perfect spot close to beach

We stayed at app E1B. All roms are huge, except the toilet which is a little tight. The place is about 5 min walking distance. Groceries are at walking distance. Very good restaurant around, we had a dinner at the Indian restaurant called Pashmina. The quality of the food at breakfast is good but a little repetitive from day to day. There are a washing machine and dishwasher and all the equipment you need to cook and serve. Be careful, there is no salt and pepper in the appartement. We had a parking spot in the basement but our car size didn’t allow to park easily so we left the car outside. The resort is very clean and pool are very nice and water is clear. I would recommend this resort without any hesitation.

Had a wonderful 3-day stay. Hotel was well maintained and close to beach, restaurants, grocery store and points of interest. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent especially the fresh squeezed orange juice and made to order eggs. Pool and weight room were excellent as well. Would definitely stay there again.

Our room was very spacious.it had everything and more we needed.
The breakfast was a very good way to start our day. The breakfast staff were wonderful.
Check out is at 10 am.Room keys were already not working when coming back from breakfast at 9:45. We were refused a later check out from Joanna the night prior. They were able to keep our bags and able to use the pool till our 1 pm departure.

After the pleasant surprise of the high ceilings on our 3rd floor apartment there were little niggly things that dragged the experience down. The TV was very tiny for such a large living room. We had to move the furniture closer to watch TV. The headroom on one side of the loft master bedroom was inadequate (I'm 6' tall). Not enough light in the large ensuite. The dishwasher door needed to be forced to close properly. All this small stuff that was wrong kept popping up - it's like the design wasn't thought out 100%, just got to 90% instead.

Could not fault this complex. The apartments were spacious and very well equipped, clean and the staff were very helpful.

This complex impressed us so much that we are intending to return at the end of the season for another week of relaxation, comfort and good food..

Local buses to take you to other resorts in the area.

I stayed on my own for five nights at the beginning of Dec, excellent roomy apartment , very well equipped, good underfloor heating, just two slight negatives ; the bed was a little hard, but as it was warm I slept on top of the duvet which was more comfitable also there is very little hanging space in the basic apartment, ok for me on my own for a short stay but not so good for a couple on a longer trip. I had a look at the one bedroom apartments while I was there and that had an excellent full size wardrobe, when I go back with my husband I will defiantly pay the extra an book that instead of the basic apartment . The position of the hotel is ok, five min walk to the beach but quite a step hill to come back, not too bad if your fit. A fair amount of reasturants/bars near by plus two good size supermarkets if your self catering. Luz itself is a pleasant village that has a brilliant beach and is just a short bus ride away from busy Lagos. Overall a really nice break.

Great all round!

Second time in this hotel, although stayed in Praia Da Luz many times before. Very happy with facilities, service and especially location, 5 minutes walk to the beach and bars, shops etc. It's a great base to explore the Western/Central Algarve region and we will be back again!

Below my Expectations

This complex did not live upto *5 star status. I could not use the balconies due to the high winds, they never eased.Informed by management it was due to the wind direction, for the 1st time ever, changing direction.I checked via weather websites nothing supported this claim, the direction of the tree trunks also suggested the wind blew towards the Atlantic Ocean. The internet is poor, every time I entered a site it crashed, I need the internet when on holiday,I could not even view my security cameras from the complex. Had to walk down the hill every day to local pubs for a good internet signal, this resulted in additional costs as I needed to purchase a drink every time I visited.The desktop computers at reception did not work.The complex has 2 outside pools (1 for families & 1 for over 16yrs).There was a constant noise around the pools which sounded like a jumbo jet in the distance taxi-ing down a run-way which was very annoying.I discovered the noise was coming from the family pool area, there was 3/4 large condensers located at ground level, the noise was a lot worse at the lower pool, not ideal for families in my opinion. We decided to use the local beaches rather than the complex pool. De Luz is a quiet location, if you need lots of bars & restaurants you need to travel to Lagos which is a 20min bus ride or 10min drive.In my opinion this is a good 3*+ complex with 5* prices.This complex is off my list to re-visit or recommend

Third visit to Estrella, staff are amazingly kind and helpful, love the spa facilities - even in the middle of summer you can still find a quiet space. Great to have underground garage parking out if the sun; good access to explore Algarve - wonderful beaches, coves, scenery and history everywhere.

Booked a week at the end of June 2015. Other reviews were good but still better than expected. Had a 3 bedroomed apartment which was huge. All clean and had everything we needed in the apartment and whole resort was fantastic. May use of all the free facilities gym, jacuzzi, and sauna. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful apartment, brilliant location.

Stayed in apartment D2E for one week, arriving back yesterday. Lovely modern apartment, fully equipped with everything you need. There is an adult only pool (aged 16+) and a family pool as well as an indoor pool, spa & modern gym. Plenty of sun beds. The bed in the apartment was very hard, but not really a problem for us as it was only a week. The staff were very helpful & friendly. Hugo & Vitor from the Calabasas Ristorante on site make the best sangria & pizza in Luz!!! You have to try this.
Car rental is not needed unless you want to explore the surrounding areas & national parks. The beach, supermarket & bars/restaurants are all within walking distance. There is a reliable and cheap bus service from Luz if you want to explore Lagos or further afield. It was a lovely holiday & we can't wait to go back. Excellent location, wonderful 4* apartment & friendly staff & locals. Would recommend this to couples, families or friends looking for a relaxing getaway. If you want a lively party holiday then go to Albufeira!

Hotel was very clean,and apartments were fantastic.Pools were very small and pool staff very unfriendly,children were not allowed any floating device in pool and even playing ball was prohibited.There was an ongoing problem with the lock on the apartment door,which took several days to sort,resulting in our family being locked out of our apartment on numerous occasions.

Fantastic time in Estrela

Apartment was really big, very clean and had everything you would need right down to powder that you might use for the dishwasher and washing machine, some bathroom toiletries and even a first aid box! We had a 3 bed apartment and the balcony was huge, with loungers as well as a table and chairs. Easy to walk down to the prom and beach area. Pools were lovely. Two food shops very near - Spar and Baptista. Lovely restaurants nearby. Great holiday.

Apartments were big even tho we only had a studio. We had two sofa's balcony with table & chairs even a dinning room table inside, large bathroom and kitchen was big. Everything you could need and so clean. Some of the other apartments in the area are dated not as advertised but not this one. It's a good price for what you get for your money. Loved that they had 3 pools and one was adults only. Would love to go again.

Bur bed very uncomfortable. Two singles bolted together, hate when hotels do that! I would sooner have a double. Sound proofing not very good unless we just had extremely inconsiderate guests around and about us. on 3 occasions we were kept awake or woken up by arguing couples, one night at 3.30. Really nice! Parking very secure though and pool area very nice. Would probably not go back to Luz especially, not much doing really. There are nicer beaches locally too. We opted for Burgau

Returned for a short break having last stayed at Estrela da Luz in 2007. Just as fabulous as I remembered and my friends (first time visitors) thought it was brilliant too. Superb three bedroom appartment with everything needed for a great holiday on or near the complex. Praia da Luz was lovely, the sun was shining and we enjoyed delicious food and wine at really good prices. Would not hesitate to go back again.

We had a 2 bed apartment on the top floor - no problem as there was a lift. Apartment a duplex and huge. Apartments well situated a VERY short walk into the village centre and to supermarkets restaurants etc
In march outside pools understandably freezing so heated indoor pool a real bonus. Lovely village and beautiful beach. Arriving to find milk, water tea coffee and sugar a real bonus. also enough loo paper provided for the week - often a real issue in apartments . We will return.

Perfect quiet family holiday

We booked these apartments under the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed.
We were able to check in 2 hours early and were given a huge 3 bedroomed apartment when we'd booked a 2 bed. The baby's cot was made up and ready in the bedroom when we got there, and the kitchen was stocked with bottled water, uht milk and enough dishwasher and washing machine tablets to get us through the week comfortably.
The apartments are less than a 10 minute walk from the beach, and there are several excellent restaurants in praia da luz serving lunch and dinner menus, reasonably priced.
I have recommended these apartments to several people already, and will book up for our family holiday again next year. The apartment complex, and the algarve, and absolutely beautiful and well worth booking.

(For what it's worth, we felt the bed was very comfortable) :)

Location and apartment is in great condition, staff is very helpful, free parking, walking distance to water and restaurants, better stay in Luz than staying in Lagos. U will not regret my advise. Lagos is bigger town but beauty is in Luzz. It's 8 mins drive. Taxis are dirt cheap. May b 7€ each way.
One thing I did not like is the confort of the bed. Mattress was a bit hard.

Fabulous apartment!

Estrela da Luz was an excellent choice of accommodation; efficient, friendly staff, fantastic spacious apartment fully equipped for a very comfortable stay. Our sons loved using indoor & outdoor pools, we enjoyed sauna & jacuzzi. Hugo Beatie restaurant was very good & reasonably priced, also plenty of other great restaurants to be found nearby eg The Dolphin & A Concha. Nice beach too. All in all a fab week's holiday!

Idyllic October holiday!

Our one bedroom apartment was very large, beautifully clean and well furnished. There was a large living area, excellent fully equipped kitchen and bedroom complete with ample fitted wardrobes and large comfortable bed. Add to this a wonderful balcony with a view over the swimming pools towards the sea! A 15 minute stroll to a beautiful beach. Recommend Hugo Beatty restaurant within the complex, fab food and friendly service. Car hire recommended, lovely places to explore! During our one week stay, the apartment was cleaned and towels changed. Hire beach towels from reception, they are very keen to help in anyway they can. Highly recommended!

A little home from home

We had booked a non smoking room through Expedia. When we arrived our allocated room smelt heavily of stale smoke. As the management team do not own the apartments they cannot guarantee if an apartment has been used previously by a heavy smoker...they just put a non-smoking sign in the room if you make that booking through Expedia as a booking agent.

On this occasion the manager was able to change our apartment to one which was very clean and did not smell of smoke.

Overall the management team were very helpful also in booking a doctors appointment for one of our party.

First Class Apartment Complex

This was a repeat visit to the Estrela. Owing to party size we have used on this and earlier visits studios, one bedroom and three bedroom apartments. On each occasion the accommodation has always been first class. Bathrooms appear fairly standard throughout and well finished. The spacious separate kitchens are all fitted out to a very high standard including fitted washers and dishwashers. In summary the apartments are spacious and well maintained with many extras included.
Overall the complex which comprises five blocks has been well designed with attractive landscaped grounds.
From reception to housekeeping staff are efficient and friendly.

Great 10 day stay

My husband and I stayed at Estrela da Luz for 10 days. Our apartment was in building E and we had sea view there. The apartment was really great, very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bed is comfortable and the bathroom spacious and clean. The complex has some really good facilities - 2 outdoor pools plus a kiddy pool and an indoor pool, a great gym, sauna and pilates classes are available (I took a few private lessons, very recommendable). The place is very family friendly and it's only a few minutes walk to the beach. There are two supermarkets in walking distance as well as many restaurants. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. We had troubles with the wifi and they were able to get everything sorted out for us. The only thing that was a bit annoying was the air condition unit that was close to one of the pools and was quite loud. The pool area was otherwise very calm so this was a bit disturbing. There is also a pool bar and a restaurant - we didn't try them out but they are definitely convenient. I would definitely recommend Estrela da Luz.

Had an amazing time here. Our room was really big with a separate kitchen and a large living room/dining area and a great balcony. Supplied loads of kitchen equipment. Only marked the room comfort down as the bed could be softer. Used the indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi everyday. The staff were great and helped us with everything we asked for. Close to two supermarkets and 5/10 min walk to the beach.

Lovers of Luz

Great location

This was our first time in this hotel (having stayed in a villa in previous visits to this resort) and will not be the last. Could not fault the location which serves as a fantastic base to explore the Western/Central Algarve by car, is close to Lagos and walkable in 5 minutes to the beach. Spar supermarket is literally just a walk away for supplies if self catering. We had B2C, a studio apartment which was spacious and perfectly appointed, with an unexpected sea view. Kitchen had all mod cons and there were two sofas, plus free Wi-Fi. The only thing that we would have liked would have been a double bed rather than two small twin beds (hard and narrow but we liked that anyway). There was a narrow space to get out of the bed, just, for the person sleeping next to the wall which proved difficult getting up to go to the loo in the night. Also the shower/bath had a glass screen which meant that the access into the bath/shower was a really tight squeeze through a narrow space (and a sharp corner by the washbasin, potential hazard), so if you are unsteady on your feet or had a few too many sangrias don't try it!
All in all, good facilities, excellent location, really good value. We will be back!

Just spent five nights at this apartment block and it is fantastic. Very clean and one bedroom twin room was massive with good size lounge and kitchen. Pools were great the gym and jacuzzi fab. We also had a massage at the spa which I would recommend. The restaurant attached called Hugo's does splendid food, the Portuguese chef cooked in front of us was delicious. Beach about a 10 minute walk with lots of restaurants and shops. Great place to go and is so friendly will defo go back.

We booked a last minute holiday in Estrela da Luz, had never been to Portugal. Found the whole experience good, people friendly and helpful. Hotel had everything you could want - loved the underground parking, spacious rooms and fully equipped kitchen. Ten minute walk to beach and a short drive from lots of other beaches and places of interest in the Algarve.

Estrela da Luz/ Baia da Luz

Initially I booked 2 rooms at Estrela da Luz (approx. 3 weeks before we were due to go). Unfortunately only 5 days before departure we received an e mail stating that they could not accommodate us but had space at their sister hotel Baia da Luz, We accepted the change and set off with some trepidation as to what we might be heading to. We needn't have worried. The staff were extremely helpful and very apologetic about the mix up. We were upgraded from 2 studio apartments to a one bedroom and a 2 bedroomed apartment along with passes for free access to all amenities at out original hotel (Estrela) just 10 mins walk away. Both apartments came fully equipped with a washing machine, 4 ring hob, oven/grill, microwave, dishwasher. They also provided complimentary teabags (a box of 10), 4 packs of washing tablets, 4 dishwasher tablets, 4 black bin bags, several sachets of coffee, 2 x 1.5litre bottles of water and 2 litre packs of milk. Certainly enough to keep us going for a couple of days at least. Extremely clean and well maintained. Also had a dvd player and a selection of dvds (I guess these would be useful with younger children). The local area was quiet (though a busy road not too far away). Walking distance to beach and local shops. We were a family of 4, parents in their 50's and 2 boys early 20's. No nightlife close by for the boys but several pubs. They were so busy during the day with water sports and the gym/swimming pool that they had several early nights anyway!!

Lovely apartment very clean & well maintained

Hotel in an ideal location. We had a beautiful apartment on that 3rd floor with sea views overlooking adult pool. Apartment was spacious over 2 floors with 2 bathrooms. The balcony could be accessed from the lounge, kitchen and bedroom. Liked that there 3 swimming pools. We had no problem getting a sun lounger. Only ate in the hotel a couple of times as there are plenty of places to eat in Luz. The food was OK. Staff were very helpful. Used the tennis courts a couple of times - reasonable rates. Second visit to Luz & really enjoyed our stay would recommend this hotel.

Very pleasant stay in July 2014

Stayed for just 3 nights in a studio suite, which was surprisingly big and had everything we could have wanted. Fully equipped kitchen with all integrated appliances, so meant we could catch up on washing etc. Everything was spotlessly clean. Requested a sea view and they were able to give us a suite with a sea and garden view from our balcony on first floor, so were very impressed with this. Reception greeted us very well and gave us information on area, as well as plan of resort and map of town. Found all staff very helpful. It was nice to have an adult only pool, even though some children did seem to be in there sometimes, but that was down to parents letting them! Good location, short walk to the main beach and main restaurants. Only negative thing would be the 10am check out time, which is far too early! Reception did point out that we could use the facilities for the day if we wanted to stay there longer, but we were moving to a different area, so left at 10am, but would be annoyed if we had a late flight, as would be a long time to wait. Didn't eat at restaurants, so cannot review these.

We had a great stay at this hotel. We only wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel was clean and spacious. The full kitchen would be very handy for a longer stay but we were only there two nights. Close to a beach and a short driving distance to Lagos and their beaches.

Everything else is wonderful. Staff all speak excellent English. Service was wonderful. Beautiful area. Short walk to market and beach. This is not a hotel, but condominiums that are rented for short-term stays. Towels are changed every three days, sheets one a week. Did I mention that everything is great except the Wi-Fi is horrible.

Pleasantly surprised, what a hotel, fantastic!

We had never been to Portugal before so didn't know what to expect. We arrived in Faro at about 10am and then picked up the hire car for our 50 odd mile journey to Luz. We arrived at EDL at midday, 4 hours before check in. We went to reception and by 12.10 we were in our apartment. AND what an apartment. It was massive. Lovely suede double sofa x2, with samsung flatscreen tv. Patio doors onto the balcony overlooking the sea. modern kitchen with all appliances inc hob/oven,microwave,dishwasher,w machine,coffeemaker,fridge freezer every utensil and pots n pans you can think of. Modern bathroom with bath/shower and double sinks immaculately clean. Double bedroom with extra balcony.
So thats the room -it was perfect
The hotel itself was modern and very clean with lovely pool area(adults only at the top pool and kids down the bottom)and beautiful gardens. The outside pool serves snacks and a refreshing Sumersby cider and Superbock.
The bar area is immaculate with a lovely restaurant and a games room with 4-5 flatscreen tv(ideal for the world cup)
Serves a nice pint of Superbock(local beer about 3euro) and the s'berry daqurai (5euro)was freshly made in front of your very eyes and tasted great.
We had access to the gym aswell which we didn't use but it seemed to have all the latest technogym equipment. Free use of Jacuzzi, indoor pool, and changing facilities.
5 min walk to the beach and choice of good bars/restaurants/supermarkets.

Overall opinion of Estrela hotel

The hotel/reception and facilities are very well looked after and exceptionally clean. Depending who you spoke to - some staff were more helpful and friendly than others. I booked a studio apartment and we were upgraded to a one bedroom apt. The apartment was fantastic, clean, airy, fridge stocked up with a bottle of water, milk & dish washer tabs and washing machine tabs. The only things that was a let down: noises from other apartments can be heard. Also, we could hear traffic as we were close to the main road. Walk to the beach is durable (10 mins max) its a shame this hotel is not in the beach front otherw

Best in town

2min to bus stop and beach. Supermarket 200 meters away. Amazing apartment, had a fabulous see view. Kitchen looked brand new. Bathroom had terrific water pressure, best shower i've had in any Hotel ay this price. The Gym is really well equiped with Techno Gym and free weights, even a smith machine with over 120kg of discs.
Lagos is 20mins on bus, here we found breathtaking beaches with lovely little beach side cafe's.
First time here, but going back in a couple of months.

Great hotel

Great stay in a great hotel. The staff are very nice and friendly and the rooms and grounds were immaculate. My only complaint was a very complicated heating/air conditioning system. It was operated by remote control. There should have been some sort of booklet explaining how it all worked. A member of staff did come to the room to show how it worked, but I was never able to get our room to comfortable temperature. Something that complicated needs a booklet of some sort in the room.

Great accommodation with great facilities.

Staff really friendly. Fully equipped appartment, complimentary milk and water on arrival and phone call from reception when we arrived in the appartment to check everything was ok.
10 min walk to the beach. Great on site pool and spa/gym.
Quiet area in general and mainly for a relaxing holiday but plenty of bars and restaurants.
Would recommend a car if you want to explore more.

Nice pool, but empty rooms

In general the hotel area was really nice. Both outside and inside swimming pools, sauna and gym were fantastic. The gym was really modern. Dressing rooms for the spa area were a bit messy and our room that was really big, felt empty. Also, all the furniture were old and outdated except the kitchen which was modern and well-equipped.

Great Holiday

We loved our trip, it was like going back in time. What a beautiful country. The people we met were great. They reminded me of eastern Canada. Luz is a small town, which was perfect for us. There was still lots of restaurants and we loved the food and cheap wine and beer. We rented a car and did a lot of exploring, over 2000 km.

After looking through your site, we decided on Estrela de Luz. As some of your clients before us, we also found the beds are to hard. So I talk to the nice young people at the front deck, and it was taken care of wright away. Other wise it was way above what I had expected. First they up graded us to a one bedroom, from a studio apt. (No- Charge) Then when we saw our unit, Wow, Super clean, with heated floors, ultra modern full kitchen with hidden fridge, dishwasher and even a small cloths washer, behind one of the cabinet doors. All the other normal things were there, stove, micro, toaster, kettle, etc. There was even bottled water and a litre of milk in the fridge. The bathroom was also very nice and included a bidda . You could even see the Ocean from our balcony.

Lovely accommodation.

I would have given this excellent all round, if we hadn't been given the wrong accommodation and then had a misunderstanding regarding it. A very clean and accommodation of a high standard. We didn't use the bar or eat there so can't comment. Great pools and and spa.
