Overall, my stay at Solar de Mós was very good. I did not give it a 5 star as there was no restaurant on site even though the description said so. The hotel orders dinner from a local restaurant and you place your reservation by midday, the day before I think.

Also, the local beach is quite a walk, certainly more than 15 minutes. My mom and I used Uber to get to the beach and go into old town.

I would describe the suite as a mixture of traditional with some elements of contemporary. Overall, a small suite with old world charm. The balcony is nice. The bed and pillows were amazing for a side sleeper!

Also, it was quaint that they had an iron but no ironing board! My mom and I had to use the bed as an ironing board.

Furthermore the staff were all friendly. The breakfast was slightly above average in quality. Plenty options to choose from.

Overall, I recommend this hotel if you do not mind there is no on-site restaurant and it is in a residential area and may be a 25 minute walk from Old Town. I did visit one of the local restaurants and it was quite good although service was slow.

Solar de Mos was a peaceful retreat that’s close to the old city and surrounding beaches. The grounds are lovely and the pool refreshing and clean. The rooms were cleaned daily and the staff are super helpful and accommodating. I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.

Checkin was delayed due to late flight and the front desk was very welcoming and understanding. Breakfast was great for getting the day started, and the rooms were clean. The balcony was nice, my only regret is we didn’t have more time to enjoy to balcony, pool, and jacuzzi. We will return!

Super Stay in Lagos

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is 15 minutes walk to the old town and it's all down hill. while we walked the return journey we took a taxi the second day for a cost of less than €5.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The breakfast was very good with a lot of choice.
I would definitely stay in this hotel again. If you have a car the parking is excellent and safe. The location is also excellent, close enough to the town to enjoy and far enough away to be quite and peaceful.

A Solar delight

So enjoyed our return to Solar de Mos. Lena and her team do much make this a relaxing stay. Quiet location in a residential setting, a little back from the old town but a pleasant stroll nonetheless. Indeed the spectacular coastline is another pleasant and nearer stroll. Breakfast is plentiful and carefully managed in present circumstances. The hotel is absolutely spotless. All at a very attractive price point.

This was a charming family run hotel in a nice quiet neighbourhood . Our room was lovely with a nice balcony, very clean and traditional in decor in keeping with the buildings. The pool was great and it was nice to relax, plenty of sunbeds and a lovely garden. The breakfast was great with plenty of choice, cereals,yogurts, fresh fruit,cheese, cold meats and bread, There was also hot eggs,bacon and beans and pastries etc. Really a great choice.

We were allocated a room in the other building (away from reception, beyond the pool). This was very modern, bright and fresh. Building included a roof-top terrace and a small gym. Great breakfast! Helpful staff. Not too far from the main centre of Lagos, but we appreciated that it was far enough away to be very peaceful and quiet. Very good hotel.

Quaint old style hotel. Location not the best but had on site parking. It was a little hard to find with our navigation system, the addresses are deceiving on this street (Lt. 1 and Lt. 2 are on opposite ends of the street. Good buffet breakfast. Quite a walk to the beach, but the beach is beautiful.

I stayed at an annex building. Since it seemed the new building, the room was very clean and nice. No complaints about the facilities. Breakfast was also nice with multiple choices.
The city center and beach are somehow distant, but with a car, I didn’t have any problems. They also have bikes that you can use. The staff is very kind and heart warming. Only request I have is to reduce the price of the laundry service. Other than that, it is a good place to stay and recommendable.

The welcome and friendliness of evening staff was excellent. The breakfast was very good. However the young waitress at breakfast was unhelpful. We had to clear dirty plates away ourselves as none of the tables had been cleared. They also ran out of plates at the buffet. Would also be good to have an extract fan in the bathroom rather than just an open windows. It got steamy.
But overall a fantastic hotel and we would love to go back and spend more time there.

Lovely, friendly hotel with delicious breakfasts

We enjoyed a week in this lovely hotel, despite the unseasonable weather, with temperatures dipping to 5 degrees. The breakfast is delicious, homemade cake a feature, good coffee and lovely relaxed atmosphere. There is an unheated swimming pool which was not tempting on our visit, but would be good in hot weather. The garden is lovely, with lemon and orange trees. We stayed in the new annex, very comfortable and private, with balcony and huge bed, and sitting area, felt more like an apartment. We would recommend this hotel to people who are looking for somewhere authentic and charming near to the centre of Lagos.

This us a charming hotel. The breakfast was lovely. It is an older hotel with old world charm and staff who care. That's why we noticed guests who treated staff like friends and were obviously regular visitors. The one drawback was that our room smelled strongly of old smoke which was rather unpleasant and would be the sole reason I would not be able to stay there again.

This family run hotel is very quiet, perfect for people who want a relaxing vacation (definitely not a party hotel). The location is also ideal, about a 15 minute walk to Praia do Porto de Mos, in my opinion, the best beach in the area (white sand, less crowded). They also have a restaurant in which you can have dinner but you have to book with them before noon each day. We ate there one night, and the food was delicious - definitely worth trying at least once!

This is a very quiet hotel, about 20 min walk from the historical centre of Lagos. We had a car so were able to explore many of the beaches quite easily. There is a nice breakfast buffet included, but no dinner unless you pre book it. We were confused by the menu in the room, which seemed to suggest that there were some items (snacks and room service, for example) that were available until 9:00pm without preordering. However there is no food available. We had to unpack and then go find a store to pick up some food for our room the evening we arrived. (We were too tired to try to find a restaurant). Otherwise the rooms are very nice, with terraces, and a kettle with tea bags, which was nice. (no coffee, but we just bought some instant and left it for the next people)

Lovely friendly staff, great room with lovely pool view balcony. Huge comfy bed. Nice quiet location.

This place is really nicely kept and as a lone traveller it was nice going into this size of breakfast room - people would say morning but didn't feel overcrowded.

I will definitely stay here again. There is also a pay as you go gym down the road and it's about 20 mins to walk to town.

Absolutely wonderful hotel staff, made me feel as if I were staying in their home. Friendly and thorough. Hotel is a short drive from the beach and a moderate walk from some of town. The room was a bit cramped, but clean and comfortable. Outside terrace was lovely for spreading out a bit to eat.

Asked for a double room and ended up with a king for two guys. Not a big deal, but not what we had reserved. Room was small, pretty much just a bed with an attached bathroom, but certainly suitable for a night or two.

The staff was great and helpful. We rented bikes for the day and when there was a problem with one of the bikes, they replaced it without question. My travel buddy forgot an adapter for the European plugs and the staff was generous enough to loan him one.

All in all, I'd recommend to anyone who wants to see lagos but not stay in the middle of the party.

A good hotel in a quiet neighbourhood

This hotel is situated in a quiet neighbourhood. We stayed here in April for one night. It was a very pleasant stay. The room was clean and spacious. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The Wifi connectivity is good throughout the hotel. Walking to the closest beach takes about 10 minutes. A 5 minute walk takes you to a number of restaurants. We would certainly choose this hotel if we are to visit Lagos again.

Excellent small family-run hotel with helpful staff. Distance from town centre and nearest beach may not be to everybody's liking, but this contributed to the peaceful atmosphere. Always plenty of breakfast as this was constantly topped-up. Unusual decor throughout which made you feel that you were not staying in a hotel that was part of a major chain that had standardised fixtures and fittings. Rooms and poolside were always clean and no problems with \"sunbed bookers\" as there were rarely more than a handful of guests at the pool.

This hotel was a great find. Not in the centre of Lagos but within a fair walking distance. Staff were very friendly and welcoming with a great sense of humour. Rooms are clean most with balconies. You need to book before midday to eat the special menu but they have a simpler one that you have if you book a bit too late. All home cooked food and delicious. The pool is a fair size with lots of sun loungers. As it's a small hotel not too busy either. Lovely only stayed 2 nights but could stay a week easily.

Had a lovely time at Solar de Mos. Very friendly staff who speak excellent English. A nice touch to leave a breakfast out for us when we left early on our final morning to go to the airport. Pool looked lovely although in March it wasn't hot enough to use it! Room clean and had everything expected.

Although there is nothing really bad about this place, it was not what we were expecting and so would not return there again. Very quiet with a distinctly older (i.e. retired) clientele. In a lively place like Lagos if you are looking for somewhere to stay there are a lot of livelier and more conveniently located places than this, unless you really want to be out in the suburbs.

Hotel with character in Lagos

This was overall a pleasant stay. It is an easy walk without luggage (or 5 euro taxi ride with) from the old town and several excellent beaches. This distance could be a detractor for some. If I were to visit Lagos again, I might try to find somehwere closer to the beach. That said, noise or rowdiness are not at all a concern at this hotel, but definitely are in the old city, where the youth hostels and party bars are concentrated. There is a grocery store just down the street. The hotel, rooms, and pool are kept spotless. The breakfast is varied and of good quality. The decor is really lovely.
Minor downside pertains to security - as mentioned in other reviews, you must rent a safe lock for 2 euros a night - and you probably should. You are to leave your key just behind the front desk when away from the hotel and though there is video surveillance of the area (presumably monitored remotely), there is usually no person at the desk. I was left wondering if someone could get their hands on room keys of guests while they are out. It would be great to see the safe included in the price/upgraded to a larger and more secure model. (Your laptop isn't going to fit.) It would also be lovely to have a somewhat better system for keeping the keys at the desk.
I would not let that colour the entire experience, however. This is a worthwhile place to stay.

For the money , this hotel is hard to fault.
Traditional with tiled walls and dark wood furniture. Tables always with tablecloths.
There is a very nice dining room/residents lounge which is a bonus, and a lovely pool and surround.
In a nice residential area, it was quiet at night.

The rooms are a decent size, not massive, but have a generous balcony each which we loved. The shower room had a very good modern shower fitted.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Always smiling. They would clean our room when we had breakfast, like Santa's elves.

Plenty of selection for breakfast - loved that there was lots of fresh fruit as well as dried. There would be something for everyone to enjoy.

If you have a car there is parking at the hotel, which is not possible in an hotel in the old town. However a stiff walk home uphill at night if you leave the car, or a taxi for a few euros.

The only things we would change are the beds, which were a little hard for us, and the hot part of the breakfast which was not hot, but seemingly this is normal in Portugal.

Little Gem

Small family run hotel about 15 mins from the harbour. Rooms were well equipped for this size of 4 star establishment. Staff very friendly and helpful and car parking just outside the entrance. It looks more like a large guest house rather than a hotel and looks a little dated but has all the facilities needed. The marks given for comfort and condition of the hotel are closer to 4.5 than 4. Continental breakfast was reasonable with a good selection of cereals etc., enough to set you up for the day but with a little room for improvement eg fresh fruit juice. We did not try the evening meals but did have lunch which was very good and reasonably price. Fresh food and enough to satisfy the appetite.

A Little Paradise

This hotel is small but well maintained and gives you a homely feeling.Their free wireless internet was great,I could use my majic jack to phone Canada as if I was next door.The free breakfast is simple but excellant.Every room has it's own balcony or patio.The pool for a 15 room hotel is large.The staff keeps taking care of your needs.

A wonderful oasis to feel at home and relax

A wonderful place to relax. Smallish boutique hotel with all the amenities you are looking for and the owner and staff make you feel welcome and at home.
Some of the rooms have just a shower and noth a bath so make sure to ask for a bath if you want one.
The Hotel is located in a calm residential area but the center of the old town is very near and we enjoyed the calm and relaxed environment very much.
When we return to Lagos we will definitely stay here again.

Hotel Solar de Mos in Lagos, Algarve

On the outer parts of Lagos town, this hotel has only 15 rooms and is a pleasant change from the larger more impersonal hotels. Staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are air conditioned and comfortable. Has an outdoor pool and patio which won't get crowded. The walk into Lagos centre is about 20-25 minutes (uphill coming back!) but will keep you fit. Overall a pleasant experience and good value.

Séjour parfait. Petit dejeuner buffet varié et de qualité.
Le calme absolu.
Un excellent accueil avec beaucoup de conseils, d'idees de balade et adresses de bon restaurants, notamment le rooftop du marché aux poissons qui accueille le restaurant Mare.

Es un alojamiento con un ambiente familiar , hacen que te sientas en casa (son muy amables y acogedores).

El recinto es práctico con una buena zona de piscina y posibilidad de aparcamiento en la puerta.

Quizá, aunque muy bien cuidado, las habitaciones son un poco antiguas y podrían tener una pequeña reforma (como han hecho en los otros dos alojamientos nuevos que tienen)

Volveríamos sin pensarlo.

Hôtel idéalement placé pour rayonner

L’hôtel est au calme à 5 mn en voiture de Lagos. C’est idéal pour rayonner et pour les voir les différents sites. Le petit déjeuner est simple, mais complet. La dépendance où était notre chambre est très moderne alors que la salle du petit déjeuner est un peu vieillotte.

Fine værelser, men sengene var ret hårde. Venlig personale. Nogle steder virkede hotellet lidt slidt, men overordnet et positivt ophold og kunne godt finde på at holde ferie der igen.

Heel aangenaam en vriendelijk hotel, fijne ruime kamers met gezellig balkon, goede locatie voor het ondernemen van de dagelijkse trip.. (auto was een voordeel)
En personeel/familie was super vriendelijk en attent..

Personnel disponible, accueillant et parlant français.
Petit déjeuner continental façon buffet à volonté. Buffet très bien garni.
Piscine ouverte.
Nous avons logé dans la partie nouvelle de l'établissement donc tout est neuf et très propre.

Solar de Mos är ett mycket prisvärt och bra hotell.
Det har en fin innergård med pol och uteplatser där vi åt
frukost varje dag.
Bra rum och daglig städning.
Utmärkt frukost.

Bel hôtel à Lagos

Bel hôtel, bien entretenu avec une belle piscine, personnel très agréable et professionnel, chambre de taille moyenne bien équipée avec balcon, propreté irréprochable.
Hôtel bien situé, à 20mn à pieds du centre ville de Lagos et des plages.

Personnel extrêmement aimable. Bon petit déjeuner.
Par contre la piscine (non chauffée) est vraiment très froide mailgré la chaleur extérieur. Impossible d'y rester plus de 5 mn, alors que je n'ai généralement pas de problème pour nager en Bretagne ou sur les plages du Nord !!
De plus, il est préférable d'avoir une voiture

Nettes kleines Hotel in ruhiger Lage. Das Frühstück war sehr gut. Wir hatten ein Zimmer im Neubau gebucht, sehr schön!
