This hotel is beautiful, with amazing service and a stunning pool! The breakfast offered plenty of variety, including healthy options, and everything was well prepared. The only downside is that it’s a bit of a walk to the old town and not very close to restaurants—but since we enjoy walking, it worked perfectly for us. Overall, a beautiful place to stay, and we’d definitely come back!

This is a brand new, beautiful hotel in a location that is about a 25 minute walk from Lagos central.
We had booked months prior when the hotel first opened as was worried when I read the reviews but we had a pleasant comfortable stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

Rooms are big enough especially by European standards. We had a sea view room which, as stated by other reviewers looked over an empty lot. This is not the hotels fault and we were able to watch the sunrise over the ocean every morning.
It is a 5 minute walk to the Ponta de Piedade boardwalk and Praia do Camilo.

The breakfast was the best we had at a hotel in Portugal with a large selection of hot and cold items including mimosas and an omelette station.
The pool area is beautiful as well with many comfortable loungers and Bali beds.

The only thing I found that could improve would be service. We ate at the restaurant late on the night of our arrival. It seemed that only certain staff could bring menus, take orders and bring the bill. We were very hungry since we hadn’t eaten since the am but I feel it could be more efficient. The food however was excellent.

The other inconsistency would be in room housekeeping. We travelled with friends who had a complementary bottle of water every day after their room was tidied. We only received the initial day and one other but only after I requested it. We were there for 5 days and would have appreciated the bottle per day.

We would stay here again!

Property is fairly new and modern. Room was decent would have liked a king size bed and more clothes storage. Pool is not heat but beautiful nonetheless. My biggest knock was the unfriendly bartenders in the evening in the lounge. They were not at all engaging or friendly.

Great aesthetics but in a new area so not much around in terms of restaurants. The beach is close so that’s nice and nice sunset and sunrise views feom the cliffs nearby.
Welcoming staff was not as great. And no one helped me with my 3 suitcases.
Long wait for check in and also breakfast.

The hotel is wonderful, very nice balcony with beautiful view of the ocean. Rides on Bolt were quick and usually about 5.00 to get to Old Town where everything is happening. The problem we have with the hotel is they are very understaffed in the dining room. Their system leaves the hostess stand unattended every time she/he seats someone and gets them water, etc. the menu is almost the same every night with slight variations. It also seems that when drink is ordered, the wait person has to walk out of the restaurant to a bar across the lobby, leaving them off the floor. That being said about dinner, the breakfast seems to be better staffed but it is a buffet. The same applies to the hostess stand being left unattended. If you don’t generally eat at the hotel restaurant, I would recommend it for everything else.

Great location, short walk to multiple beaches and 15 minute walk to the main strip. Very safe, very clean, amazing breakfast. The comments about waiting a bit for breakfast etc are valid, but it’s a vacation, typically you would wait under ten minutes. Would recommend to the hotel management to buy one more coffee machine or have a carafe of coffee, would increase table tuns decreasing wait times.

The Editory considers itself a 4.5 star hotel. I can’t see how this is possible. The photos of the views from on the website and Expedia do not match reality. When I expressed my disappointment, I was offered to change my room the following day but was warned it was the same view, just higher up. The woman helping me and I agreed it was not worth the inconvenience of changing rooms. In addition, in the room, there is mold and discoloration in the shower. On the tv guest services menu, it explains the mini bar is stocked and a price list was in the room for reference. Neither is true. There is no list and the mini bar was empty. When I shared this with the front desk, the woman challenged me saying the mini bar is only there to store your personal refreshments. When I told her about what the guest information was on the television, she was surprised snd completely unaware. With regards to the poolside restaurant. There is not enough seating to accommodate the size of the hotel. We had two servers. One amazing, the other abrupt and confused. When we asked for the bill, we were met with “Just wait a minute” and when the bill did arrive, it was wrong. I had hopes that the Editory could become my Algarve escape as I live in Portugal. I would not return unless management has a basic hospitality overhaul and is willing to be transparent about the construction site that surrounds the property.

I stayed at this newer hotel and was really impressed. The place looks sharp and modern, with a clean design that makes it stand out. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and spotless—definitely a great setup for a solid stay.

One thing you don’t want to miss is the pool. It’s top-notch and makes the whole experience even better.

Overall, a strong choice if you’re looking for a place that’s both stylish and comfortable.

Beautiful luxurious hotel for the price!

Absolutely beautiful hotel. It’s about a 15-20 min walk to the most beautiful beach (Praia do Porto de Mós). Note: if you want to book a sun lounger for the day go down the day before and pay for it. The hotel didn’t tell us this (they said just go before noon, this is NOT true) and it’s a big missing piece for anyone who wants shade and a relaxing beach day. (Around €20 for two for the day). It’s also about a 20 mins walk to the old town and fantastic restaurants. But all great walks. Of course, you can uber but honestly it’s a great way to see more of Lagos, which is stunning! The hotel bar staff are a little standoffish and talk about you (they don’t know some of us can understand them). Otherwise this hotel was fantastic. Highly recommend.

You'd need a car if not able to walk that distance. Doesn't seem to be any public transport.
Great pool area. Not too busy with a nice wee cafe/bar.
Breakfast is good but not a lot of variety. Not that well laid out.

Great location, friendly and professional staff however, some of the facilities were underwhelming for the cost of stay.

Outdoor pool and seating areas were great. Indoor pool was more for families and children, \"Turkish bath\" was unavailable and appeared to be a small steam room squashed into the corner of the room.

The outdoor and indoor pool / sauna are not well connected which requires you to walk through the hotel lobby wet and in a swimming costume. If there is a better route there should be clear signs.

Overall, we had a great stay. Facilties could've been better for the price of stay, with the location I enjoyed swimming in the sea more.

Facilities we're good and rooms were relatively clean, breakfast buffet was nice and had plently of options. However the administration of the booking was mishandled by the hotel management as on arrival we discovered that although we pre-booked a twin room, we were actually provided with a double room, this was only corrected the following afternoon after several complaints made to the hotel reception staff. Also on one occasion during out stay the toilet paper was not replenished in our room.

UNSAFE conditions. Returned from day at the beach to discover the glass balcony railing (we were in room 401) had shattered on its own. This could potentially be from the extreme heat currently or from improper installation. Regardless, if we were using the rail when it happened someone could have been seriously hurt or killed from the 4 storey fall. Notified staff who seemed more concerned about relocating us to a room of the same category rather then realizing the seriousness of the issue. I explained that this same problem could potentially occur in one of the other rooms, which all have the same glass railing on the balcony. But the two girls did not care what so ever. Growing pains of a newly opened resort is one thing, but potentially deadly safety concerns which are not taken seriously is a whole other problem.

It’s too bad because the location and building are both beautiful. But many corners have been cut on the construction and some things have not been completed entirely. The restaurant is also terrible, over priced and the service is poor to say the least.

Keep yourself and your family safe, stay somewhere else. The management of this place does not care about you. I reported the railing issue at night and received no follow up from anyone the following day when the manager was back in.

Pros: Excellent location to beaches and old town on foot! Nice facility! Nice breakfast buffet in spite of coffee machines using powdered milk. Cons: pool is very cold; restaurant for dinner is fixed menu only and is pricey. Peak times have breakfast buffet lineups and reception very often has lineups perhaps due to being understaffed for such a big hotel.

The hotel was a good location, close to the beach and a short uber to old town. We were out most of the afternoon and when we returned around 6:00 pm, our room still hadn't been cleaned. They said our room was next, but we needed to get ready for dinner. The hotel also ran out of pool towels which I have never had happen before. I think this was listed as a 4.5 star hotel, but it's more like a 3 star basic nothing special hotel.

Very nice, newly built hotel - it’s 3 months old at the time of writing this review. Check in was good and our initial room was lovely. Nice view, large by European standards and comfortable. The location is not ideal as it appears they are tearing down some older buildings and erecting new hotels in the area. There are some nice restaurants in walking distance though. In the evening there was water leaking from the ceiling of our bathroom. We asked for Another room and were field the hotel was fully booked. They did clean a lesser room for us to spend that first evening and then moved us a room of similar level but not as big or well outfitted as our first superior room. Not seamless and not without frustration. The lady who intervened at reception was much more helpful and understanding than a

Parking was not included as stated when booking. It's 13Euros a day. I think when you pay 400 a night it should be included. Unknown to us the water in the room is 4E per bottle. Every little thing is charged to you when you leave.

Hotel has only been open for a few weeks and is immaculately clean.
Staff are good - notable exception being two men on reception when we arrived who completely ignored us and carried on a conversation between themselves ( presumably not realising we could understand), no offer of help with luggage.
Another member of staff did then come and deal with check in.
Rooms on the small side but have everything a guest could need including adequate storage. Very comfortable beds and good quality bedding. Good soundproofing between rooms
Area around the hotel is still being built on - but this is true of much of Lagos which is undergoing a lot of expansion/ renovation. Hotel grounds/ pool area nicely planted with screening plants but - obviously - these have yet to grow.
Very busy sometimes at breakfast - went early one day and it was a very pleasant experience, late another and it was chaotic with queues for the coffee machine which were so long that it wasn’t worth waiting. So the experience at breakfast depends upon timing.
The hotel was fully booked on 2/4 days we were there but even on those days there were plenty of available loungers with mix of sunny and shaded positions. The pool is huge and catches the sun all day. Aqua fit class one afternoon was an unexpected, very enjoyable, bonus.
Easy walking distance into town for very wide range of eating/ drinking options and nearby beaches.
Overall I would love to stay again.

Lovely modern hotel which was just perfect. Room was stunning with a lovely view over the pool which has an amazing array of cabana style beds and loungers to choose from. Breakfast was fantastic and the hotel bar was beautiful and welcoming on an evening. Location wise this hotel is stuck out a little on its own, it’s approx a 20 min walk into Lagos which we were ok with but it is in close proximity to the beaches and Ponte de Piedade which is just beautiful.

We did have a car which made it a little easier to get around but could manage without. We managed to get parked easily in the street as well which was a bonus.

The hotel itself is beautiful. I understand it's very new. The staff were lovely and friendly but the service offered was poor. When i tried to call reception from my room on 7th floor, rhe phone lines wouldn't work. They admitted there was a fault so each time i had to go down in the lift to reception. On the first day, the aircon wouldn't work. I asked for an iron twice and each time had to wait 3 hours. A few days into my stay there was no hot water. I had to have a cold shower then go down to reception to tell them as phoning reception wouldn't work. On one occasion the barman disappeared leaving three guests waiting to pay for drinks ordered.
I think they need more staff and more experience staff and better organisation. The location itself is too far from beaches or the old town so unless you are driving, you'll need to get taxis or walk in the heat. There are no grocerie shops within 10-15 mins of you need water or anything else. Around the hotel is basically a construction site so maybe by next year it will look and feel a bit nicer.

I stayed at The Editory by The Sea Lagos Hotel from July 2nd to 7th, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with my experience. This is a truly exceptional hotel that deserves the highest rating possible.

From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by how new, clean, and well-organized everything was. The entire hotel is beautifully designed, with a modern aesthetic and thoughtful details throughout. The infrastructure is outstanding — from the rooms to the common areas, everything feels fresh, stylish, and comfortable.

One of the highlights of my stay was the staff. Every employee I interacted with was kind, helpful, and highly professional. Their attention to detail and willingness to assist with anything made me feel truly welcome.

In summary, The Editory by The Sea Lagos Hotel exceeded all my expectations. It’s a perfect choice for anyone visiting the Algarve region. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, quality, and excellent service.

The property had wonderful facilities, the staff were super welcoming and always had a smile on their face. Breakfast was everything you would want from omelettes to fresh fruit and yogurt. The pool area had plenty of space and the pool is beautiful. I couldn’t recommend staying at this hotel more.
Location is great to the town and local beaches. A taxi to the Lagos town cost us €2.50.
We also had an electric car that could be charged for the price of €12 which is exceptional.

Breakfast is chaotic, and all the coffee comes from an instant machine—no espresso or cappuccino, which is bizarre for a higher-end European hotel. The AC barely works and leaks when it does, damaging clothes and creating slippery floors.

The gym smells like sweat, has no air conditioning, and no wipes to clean equipment—completely unhygienic. Common area bathrooms are filthy and often lack toilet paper.

Worst of all, the staff is unresponsive. Don’t expect callbacks or any effort to improve your stay. Disappointing across the board

This is a very new property but they do not have enough staff or capacity at breakfast times. Most days had to wait for tables and once seated a lot of food was not available even though it was within the serving times.
The air conditioning could not cool the bedrooms to below 27 deg C which meant it was impossible to sleep and after 7 days we were extremely tired. Reported this to the staff but it was never fixed and complained on checkout and was told many guests had similar experience. We were told the air conditioning was controlled centrally and not enough capacity in the hot weather.
Not what you expect from a 5 star hotel.
The area was convenient for beaches and old town if you don’t mind 30 minute walks which was ok for us.
Staff were very nice but stretched at busy times.
Did not use the pool or restaurant apart from breakfast as did not look too exciting compared to beaches and old town nightlife.
I would not use this hotel again to visit Lagos.

The hotel is nice but expensive for the price .rooms are very small . Pool resturant and bar ran out of food , they said they ran out of burgers, pizzas and pastas and this was in the middle of the day. Location is far from everything and its extremely hot to walk there and they dont have shuttle to take you to old town or major attractions . Infact they had a boat tour but I was surprised they said we have to take taxi to go the meeting point and they dont have shuttle . Overall I dont recommend the hotel .
