This hotel was excellent value for money. Our room was VERY spacious relative to other places we stayed in Tokyo/Osaka etc., and the amenities were high quality. We could see mountains out of one window and Matsumoto Castle out of the other, and it was a very easy walk to the Castle and many restaurants. It was a slightly longer walk to the train station and Matsumoto Art Museum, but it would be just as easy to get a taxi (or I assume a bus!). Really lovely place with staff that were extremely lovely and helpful - e.g. we were so grateful that they filled in our luggage forwarding cards for us!

Wonderful hotel. I will definitely come back. The bed is excellent, soft like clouds! I did not want to leave my bed in the morning. Breakfast selection is decent too. In your hotel room, there is very detailed muti-page recommendation of places and food to try. It is written in both japanese and english. The location is about 5mins from Matsumoto castle. Check if the castle does light up at night during your stay.

The beds are super comfy and the amenities are pretty good. The shower is super hot and a great shower head! It is walking distance of everything and the breakfast is a great healthy option. The only down side was there was no help in getting back to the train station with all of our luggage. We were told that we had to walk. I would be aware of this if mobility is an issue.

An oasis for a short visit
Our stay was delightful. We visited Matsumoto to spend time with friends who live there. We found the city and people to be delightful. We were coming off a few hard days of “touristing” in Tokyo and the hotel and its staff welcomed us and made sure our stay was cozy and comfortable. The beds offered us the best night’s sleep we had so far in Japan and the bath salts offered at check in were some kind of magical elixir for our sore bones. We woke up refreshed and ready for the next part of our journey. It was bittersweet to check out. Thank you for the stay!

Fantastic location and clean hotel. Really enjoyed our stay but didn’t spend too much time in the hotel. The service is polite and the rooms are very functional. It is a little dated but still very clean and with everything you need. There was some building work taking place but we didn’t really notice any noise or disruption. Overall a great place to explore Matsumoto. We booked room only so didn’t try the breakfast.

Matsumoto is a great place to stop over for a few days. It reminded us of a Japanese version of a Swiss mountain resort. The castle is a very short walk away. Train from Tokyo is very easy and quick. The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the station. We caught a bus up into the mountains - no problem. The hotel room itself was a very good size, well maintained. The are staff very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is quite nice, convenience and the staff are very polite with good customer service but the parking is not at the hotel, you should walk about 3 mins and pay ¥1,000 per day which is still acceptable. It was a new year in Japan during my stay, they prepared the snack, sake in reception area and send soba noodle to our room. Very nice! Highly recommended hotel if you stay in Matsumoto.

We had a great overnight stay. Hotel is well positioned between the castle (terrific to visit) and the train station. Staff very very attentive when it seemed one of us had lost our wedding ring. Very happy with my stay here. Room was spacious and very clean with down comforters, slippers and pajamas. The furniture and bathroom were a modern design with a vessel sink and a deep soaking tub. Very friendly staff and some English spoken. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. The name of the hotel is on a side street off the main road and the name of restaurant is on the front. Would definitely stay here again.

The Marunouchi is conveniently located about a block from Matsumoto Castle, and we had a beautiful view of the mountains from our room. The room was quite large by Japanese standards, as well as bright and well-appointed. They provided a variety of toiletry items, as well as slippers and pajamas.

My daughter, husband and I stayed here for 2 nights this past week. They were very accommodating with our request to add our daughter, who joined us for the second night, and added a bed for an additional 3000 yen, which worked out great.
Hotel is located 2 blocks from the Matsumoto castle and we had a free tour by a lovely volunteer tour guide. Get there early if you come during the peak times!
The 2 old town streets are also an easy walk from the hotel. We also visited the city art museum which has a permanent exhibit of Yayoi Kusama’s work.
We had the hotel breakfast one morning, served next door in a beautiful, restored bank building. Food was so-so, both western and Japanese, and for 18,000¥, we skipped it on day 2 and bought onigiri and yogurt from the nearby Family Mart.

Best hotel we stayed at during our trip. Staff were very nice and also upgraded our room. Hotel is very nice - decor is very modern and calming, rooms are quite big and spacious, bed super comfortable and it's a good location. Close walk to Matsumoto Castle and also near the river and Yohashira Shrine. We happened to be there during a public holiday and weekend, and there were a lot of outdoor festivities close by. Walk to the train station isn't too far. Would definitely stay again and for longer if we ever passed Matsumoto again.

The hotel was in a good location. The room we had has a view of the Matsumoto Castle and the mountain alps. The room is of a good size and the beds are really comfortable. There is even a facility for coin laundry. Only disappointment was the breakfast , first we realised it was not included in the booking and second for the price it is expensive considering the limited selections.

Really nice clean modern hotel, an easy stay for a family of 4 with two young children. We had an amazing view of the castle from our room. We enjoyed the walk to the hotel from the station. We decided to eat breakfast at the hotel and it was fine. Lots of sights and dinner options in easy walking distance. Will definately return next time.

Nice hotel near Matsumoto Castle

Very nice hotel, fine location, lovely staff, generously sized room with a very small bathroom. However, this hotel has the best thing any hotel could have: a tiny laundromat in the hotel itself, with two washers and dryers; you don't even have to buy laundry soap; the machine dispenses it. What could be better than, for $6.00, to wash and dry your well worn travel clothes during your excursion?

Ideal Location in a Wonderful Smaller City
We arrived in Matsumoto by JR Train after completing the Alpen-Route from Tateyama to Shin-Omachi. This hotel is very near the Matsumoto castle and two main shopping districts. Everything you want to see on foot in the core area is accessible from this location. We thoroughly enjoyed Matsumoto as a smaller city in Japan with wonderful shops, restaraunts, and cafes and a very rich historical treasure in the Matsumoto Castle and surrounding park.

We booked online and paid in advance for one room for our family of 2 adults and 2 children. When we arrived at the hotel we were told it was hotel policy as our children were over 10 it was hotel policy we needed 2 rooms. We had the choice to either pay almost double the original quoted price or walk away with nil refund. It ended up costing us more than the per night rate at the Tokyo Hilton in a Junior suite which included breakfast. This hotel room or facilities were not even close to that. The rooms were not overly spacious and not sure how two fold out beds would even fit. Buyer beware - if you are a family of four avoid

This stop in our trip was a favorite, small quaint city. Lots to do, could walk everywhere, no problem. will definitely go back to Matsumoto. The hotel was centeralized, clean, friendly, just what a traveler looks for at day's end.

Much more luxurious than the photos suggest
The photos on the site suggest that this is a budget hotel, similar to the Premiere Inn chain in the UK. It's actually a lot nice than that. The rooms are very nicely laid out and extremely comfortable. There are pay-per-view channels on the TV (movies and Japanese pixelated adult content) that you pay for using an access card sold from a vending machine in the hall (1000 yen). The dining room is very luxurious and looks like a banqueting hall. The breakfast is very high quality with a good mix of western and Japanese food available from the buffet.

Very nice clean rooms and super quiet. 10-minute walk from the station is further than most but the hotel is located in a quieter area around the castle which is a bit nicer than the traffic and neon closer to the station. Also had free loan bikes which were in great condition. Only (small) negative is that we arrived 45 mins early and they made us wait until 3pm to check in, but can't really blame them for that.

This is an excellent little hotel, located a few blocks from Matsumoto Castle. Staff spoke English reasonably well, for the most part, and were helpful and solicitous of our needs. The hotel structure seems quite new, and the lobby is attractive, with modern design. (And free tea all day, which was nice while waiting for people to assemble.)
One word of warning: the hotel's entrance is actually on the side-street, though many maps show it as on the main boulevard (Daimyocho-dori). What you see from the main street is the (very elegant) façade of the hotel's associated restaurant, with many banners proclaiming \"Harmonie Bien\" (the name of the restaurant.) We arrived on foot, and walked back and forth a couple times before someone pointed out to us the \"Marunouchi Hotel\" sign on the side street.

Lovely, small hotel very close to castle. It was a little hard to find but worth it. The breakfast was excellent value in a unique setting.The staff were very helpful and friendly.

We stayed two nights, hotel is in good location not far from castle, which was best castle we had visited. Arrived at hotel around 6pm a bit weary from travelling, just wanted to dump bags and have a drink. Girl behind bar tells me it is closed, says there is bar on level 3, however examinations taking place there so no. Ok, just happy to have a drink here in the cafe. No! Cafe closed. No flexibility, frustrating. Access from the street to hotel lobby is terrible, cart luggage up stairs. Wouldn't stay again.

Spent 2 nights here. Room a reasonable size by Japanese standards, but still quite small when suitcases are included. Air conditioning worked well but quite noisy. Probably about right for the price paid. Good place to sleep, and explore the surrounding area.

Huge room, warm welcome and great location
Matsumoto is one of my favourite cities in Japan anyway and now made even better by the addition of the superb hotel. It wasn't expensive yet the room I stayed in (albeit a deluxe) was large and very very comfortable. The staff were always busy but not so much they couldn't give you the time required. It's also very close to the castle and on the red route of the local bus service. i didn't use the restaurant (which seemed to have a procession of wedding parties) so can't rate that but there's plenty nearby as well as a couple of nice places to take a beverage. If your budget stretches then you should stay here.

Easy to find and we were made welcome by the staff. Room spacious clean and comfortable. Easy to get to the castle and to the station . We particularly recommend the City Art Museum about a ten minute walk away.

This place was a great find - it was very central and half-way between the station and the temple, although just off the main street so nice and quite. The decor and rooms were very high quality and the staff were very friendly. I didnt eat there so I cant comment about the food but there was free computer and internet access which was nice and every day free tea/water and little biscuits to have a snack. Would recommend and would stay there again for sure
