Old style hotel with basic rooms but great location and friendly staff. Perfect for visiting Knossos and heraklion museums. Great restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Also just a few minutes walk to fort, port and bus station. Rooms basic with very old showers, but beds surprisingly comfortable. Breakfast had ok choices but lacking in quality. Good budget / mid range choice for short stay.

We had an absolutely phenomenal view of the port from our room, beyond what we could have ever expected. The room itself was decent but I couldn’t get the shower to turn on and there was some mold in the corners of the bathtub, not too big of a deal for a one night stay but we did let them know about it before we left. Breakfast was tasty and the hotel is perfectly located with a short walk to the port.

Hotel is in a great location next to the Harbor and the center of the city. The staff are excellent, and the morning breakfast buffet was excellent as well. Our room (with huge balcony) faced the port, and the view was breathtaking (similar to the view from the breakfast room). The room itself was fine but had poor lighting but good A/C. Bathroom as well was dull (color scheme), and poor lighting but clean. BTW the airport is close by and the planes take off predominantly toward the city harbor and they are close and loud (impacts all hotels and residents). We would stay again without hesitation.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was too small, especially the shower… I couldn’t move without hitting the walls.
The safe fitting edges were sharp and I hit my head to it a couple of times. The room was tiny itself as well. The location was good and near the port and bus station.

I chose this property due to its proximity to the ferry terminal and only stayed one night. It was about a 15 minute walk from the ferry to the property, and check-in was easy. Breakfast options were plentiful and I especially appreciated the cappuccino machine and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Our room overlooked the harbor with a view of the fort. The hotel is no-frills but clean and has everything you need!

We traveled as a family: two of us and our 1.5-year-old. The room we stayed in was spacious. The beds were relatively comfortable, and the room was clean and well maintained. The biggest treat was the view. We had a room on the fourth floor with a spectacular view of the bay and the sea beyond. Breakfast was served on the top floor, and the dining area also had a spectacular view of the sea. The breakfast options were some of the best we experienced, including self-made Greek coffee and a self-assembled traditional Cretan meal, a hand juicer to make your own fresh orange juice an loads of other options for food and drinks.

In January, the room was a little chilly and slightly humid, and this was an unpleasant combination. But thankfully the heating element worked well enough, and we made it fairly comfortable in the end.

The staff were very friendly. There is a small tea/coffee bar on the ground floor which needs to be serviced by the concierge. There is no tea kettle in the room itself! This was probably the only downside for our stay since we would have liked to warm up some of the water for our daughter or had the ability to make tea ourselves.

Lastly, there is a laundry business just a few steps away from the hotel. The man who runs the business dropped off our clean laundry at the hotel. So, keep this option in mind as you travel.

As a whole, this hotel was excellent. Get a room with a sea view. It is worth it.

Good hotel but need a proper overhaul

We stayed for one night, as we were taking the ferry the next morning and this hotel is at one of the best spots in the town. This is an old building and needs a proper overhaul, especially since the bathroom is very old. It is good for a one-night stay. Breakfast is on the top floor overlooking the port and provides one of the best views on the island! Breakfast is ok, not bad.

The room was ok. The pillows were like rocking chairs though. (Head kept rocking back and forth because they were so uneven.) The bed was very hard but my husband liked it, so maybe not the worst for everyone. But the bathroom was not great. The shower leaked and the floor was filthy. The rest of the room wasn’t cleaned very well either. Found hair on the pillowcases when we first arrived. The location is great, however. And the check in was easy.

Walls covered in spatter of bodily fluids ?vomit ?blood a hair also. Bathrooms need renovated badly. Air conditioning turns off in the middle of the night (this occurred in our friends room also so it is a deliberate cost saving measure by staff) incorrigible given the heat.
Drain clogged and not draining water in shower. Mould in shower.
Was cheap. But definitely cheap and nasty. 1 night only for sure or find elsewhere.

Finding the hotel was easy and check-in went by quick. I can’t remember much about the elevator in terms of size, but I do know that my mom and I, alongside each of our carry-on bags, fit just fine. The room was clean and the beds were good. I had no problems with noise and I am a light sleeper. The location of the hotel is very convenient as it is close to harbour and close to the main area of the city. It also close to two bus stations (one being the main bus station).

The only small thing that I noticed was that the door that led to the balcony wouldn’t lock. I tried several times, but the lock just wouldn’t latch on.

The area also felt safe, which was very important to us since we were two female travellers and we had to check out at around 2:00AM to catch the ferry. Even at that time of night, we didn’t feel unsafe walking around with our luggage.

Overall, it was a good stay that is positioned well in the city.

The property was in a convenient location for the ferry port, which we used for transportation from Crete to Athens. The hotel staff were excellent and always helpful. The only drawback is that it is hard for any tour transportation to pick us up at the hotel.

Few disappointed in our stay at Marin hotel. There was no parking on-site. You must park at nearest city parking location and walk to hotel. This wouldn’t be bad except there isn’t a place to drop luggage before parking. Once in the unit AC was not working (they promptly corrected). The shower had mold/mildew on walls. We advised the staff and they sent someone to clean the next morning. Next shower it was back. Gave up on having this corrected. Staff was very nice in saying they would send someone to re-clean, unfortunately I think the exhaust fan was not operational in the bathroom. After booking this room in February, I read this same issue happened in other rooms.

This place was worse than a Motel 6 in the US. There was black mold in the shower, and the lighting in the room was dim like in a horror movie. You could also hear people talking in the hallways and going in and out of their rooms. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Quite a basic room. Clean. Reasonable condition.

Balcony was much smaller than expected. The neighbouring rooms' balcony is also side by side with ours, and separated by a piece of frosted glass that isn't fully covered. We can basically crawl under to get to the next room and vice versa...

View from the room was nice.

Breakfast is additionally chargeable.

Hotel is near to the ferry terminal and the main shopping area. We are happy with the location.

We reserved a sea front room with double bed, we got a narrow door with small window to the sea and two small beds despite reservation made 2 months earlier. The pictures do not represent the room

Very disappointed!! We were in room 201. In the bathroom there was so much mould !!! And even that you can remove with your finger. It hasn't been cleaned at all. It was so disgusting. We told the manager on shift that night and his answer was : well, it needs renovation.. we can do nothing for you. Also we could hear people talking on the street ! It is not isolated at all. For the rest, we did sleep well in the bed. I wouldn't recommend this hotel since it is below every hygiene standard !

The hotel is located in an excellent place and really is walking distance from the port (though there is a bit of an uphill portion) and very close to a major bus stop. The staff are very friendly and helpful as well. The hotel rooms themselves are clean and modern but the bathrooms are a little dated and may need some work . The shower is tight and there was a bar in mine that was rusty. The light in my room flickered constantly and we had to leave it off. I stayed for one night so there was no time to make a complaint. The beds though are wonderfully comfortable though the blankets are thin. Aside from that the breakfast included was excellent and the view from the breakfast area was beautiful.

Get a room with a view of the Fortezza and balcony if you can, but even if unavailable, the hotel is wonderful. Parking garage, port, and grocery store very nearby. Pedestrian area lined with restaurants, coffee shops, and stores are nearby, too. Highly convenient hotel that is managed with care!
