The new owners are amazing. They are very kind and helpful. They are doing everything in their power to make it a better place. Huge upgrades! I have stayed here for a week every two months for the last year. Huge difference (in a good way) every visit. Not to mention, a guest next door had a medical emergency and the owner sat with her (and I) for over half an hour waiting for the ambulance. Very calming and caring.

When I checked in, I went to the first room they gave me. The bathroom sink was dirty in the bathroom tub was dirty. The counters were grimy. The bed had smears on the pillows and hair in it. I went back to the front counter and told him I was not going to stay in that room. They gave me a second room, which was only slightly better.

We stayed for four nights and were extremely disappointed. There were bugs on the bed, the TV and lamp didn't work, there were no essential kitchen utensils like a cutting board or spatula, and the shower was a weak trickle of water at best. Most unacceptably, despite obviously knowing the length of our stay, there was nobody in the office on the day we checked out. We had to call the staff and even then, sat for nearly two hours, past noon, for someone to finally come into office to return our cash deposit, seriously affecting our subsequent trip. Having lived in Canada for nearly three decades now, this is by far the worst hotel/motel experience I have ever encountered. I will not recommend this place to anybody!

The property itself is older and starting to show signs of being kinda run down looking. You are also right in the middle of downtown, so not the safest feeling neighborhood. We did not get the chance to check out the pool, but they said they had one. The bed was comfortable and the was plety of space in the room. The air-conditioning worked great. The staff was friendly, but needed to be reminded twice that we asked for extra pillows and towels, took a few hours before we got them. Overall not too bad for the cost.

The owners don't open up their office til 930 am, we were checking out 2 hours earlier then that, so we called the number as they needed to release our deposit. They refused to come down and do that and said they would do it once they opened the offfice for the day and send us a confirmation receipt via text message and they never did. In the room and outside the room smelled like cigarette smoke and was very dirty. Was very unpleasant and gave me a headache and made me feel very nauseous. The shower had very little water pressure. Was leaking and literally had a bandaid around the leak to \"fix it\". I felt very gross and dirty after staying there and throat was very sore from the smell. Definitely would not recommend or ever stay here again.

This was unfortunately the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had. The room was very dirty, with an unpleasant smell that made it impossible to relax. We also did not feel safe, as some of the other residents seemed suspicious, and it even looked like homeless people were staying on the first floor. There was no real service provided at all. We ended up leaving the hotel earlier than planned because we simply could not stay there. I would definitely not recommend this property.

Ad showed 2 queen sized beds. Turned out they were doubles. Room was dirty, there was even black stuff in the shower/bathtub and it was small. Totally run down as well. We had already paid and were told they would only give us our deposit back when we didnt want to stay anymore. We chose to pay at the hotel rather than on expedia so expedia couldnt help us get a refund. They even tried calling the hotel on our behalf. Guess who didnt answer the phone the multiple times expedia tried? We will have to dispute the charge with the credit card company. Worker said he needed to cover the expedia charge and thats why we couldnt get our money back. Scammers here beware!

The motel is what you would expect for 90$ a night. The room was dirty and run down and the pool was also very dirty/ messy around the pool. The bed linens and towels were stained/ not cleaned.
We had to strategically plan coming to and leaving from the motel as there was a line up of sketchy looking people buying drugs out of the room below us.
The location of the motel is convenient as you’re right in town but there was a large amount of homeless people around the motel.
The woman who helped us for part of the check out was nice but the man who checked us in and finished our check out seemed mad to have to do his job.
Room also was not serviced or cleaning during our 3 night stay.
Overall it wasn’t great but it was cheep and we enjoyed being a 15 minute bike ride from the beach and close to restaurants.

The pictures on the website are incredibly misleading to swimming pool was completely unusable. Every single amenity in the room was unusable. For example, the hair dryer in the bathroom,the ironing board, the TV. Honestly I would say the nail in the coffin would have been the bag of crystal meth for lack of any more education that we found in the nightstand drawer on the day we checked out. All in all my suggestion, no matter how inexpensive the stay would be to find somewhere else.

I made a reservation through Expedia at the Schell Motel on July 19 2025 for July 26 - Aug 1. My credit card was charged $503.59 on July 20. On July 21 Schell sent me an email via Expedia that they were cancelling my reservation due to overbooking. I called the hotel trying different dates but none were available so I requested a refund. The motel manager told me it would take 7 - 10 business days to refund my money. It has been more than 10 days and I do not have a refund.

Don’t ruin your trip

We’ve been to this motel before and loved it. But management must have changed. I go to the hotel and first the person at the front desk treated us like we were an annoyance and interruption to their day. Then they give us a room that was away from the rest of the rooms stuck in a corner of a back alley that was so dirty, smelly and not inviting to the point where I questioned my safety. The pool area was terrible! The hot tub didn’t work, the pool was dirty. Beer cans laying everywhere, chairs and tables look like they haven’t ever been wiped and I’m not usually a complainer. I felt so unsafe I declined the room and asked for a refund. What a way to spend my time not just trying to get my money back but then trying to find another place to stay. I should at least get a refund for the second day cause it was 24 hours notice. Do not stay here. It will ruin your holiday. Hotels.com I’m waiting for my refund. Apparently the hotel said you were responsible for that part. If that’s not the case you should not endorse the hotel.

The place looks good when you pull in but it’s a bit sketchy when you look closer,, long term low income tenants live there too, some ok ppl, but some make you remember to lock everything up in the parking lot. They had a pool…it was pretty uncared for and dirty, we actually cleaned it up a bit before going for a swim. Area is within walking distance of lots of things. the place looks good from the outside, but don't let that fool you, have a look at your room before you take it. super outdated, peeling paint, 1960's air-conditioner that couldn't cool a bathroom nevermind the whole room, dirty hand prints on pretty much all the walls. Arrived 5 pm, opened door to 45 C blast furnace, the room reached 25 by 430 am just in time for us to leave, with no sleep. Would not stay there again even if they paid me.

This place is a gem if you are looking for cheap

This place has the worse customer reviews. But overall I don't mind the place. It is a bit dirty and grungy. But very functional. I have a full size kitchen with toaster and coffee maker and a legitimate oven with cooktop. Full size fridge. The pool out back is kept clean and looks fairly nice. There are BBQs onsite as well. Overall good place for the money spent.

The property manager was rude to me when we checked in. The manager was not there when we wanted to check out. They charged us a $300 damage deposit which I wanted to have refunded on checkout but the office was closed, and there was a lineup at the door for checkouts. The room in general was in very poor condition, microwave was damaged in the coffee pot did not work in the morning. The pool was nice though I'll give them that. Other than that very disappointing. I have to go back and figure out what happened with the damage deposit though.

Fridge had ‘knuckle’ marks from someone punching it. Kitchen area was horrible. Booked for 2 queens and got 1 queen and a double. No bathroom fan but it did have a little window to open with no screen that bugs came in. Window air conditioner that someone could have slid open and came in our room. People living in the motel and smoking weed right outside our window. Deadbolt on bedroom door(strange) Woke up to a court baliff and 2 police officers escorting a tenant out with all her belongs while she was screaming profanities. All for 159$ a night?! We stayed for 3 nights. When we first arrived we had to wait quite awhile to get our key despite being the only ones checking in. Staff is never around and when they are (the one guy that works during the day) they avoid you. They charge a different amount for a damage deposit for each guest. The place was absolutely filthy. My son walked around the unit for 5 minutes and his feet were black. The blankets were stained or dirty. The pool is filthy. They never once brought us fresh towels and we ran out of toilet paper on the second day and couldn’t find anyone to bring us more. When we were checking out the manager was hiding. When you call the number they don’t answer and their mailbox is conveniently full so you can’t leave a message. They have permanent residents living there who sit outside and smoke pot all night among other things.
It’s just an absolute joke and I would never in my life recommend this place to anyone.
Stay away. Do yourself a favour and pick any one of the nicer places in Vernon to stay. It’s not worth the cheap price.

The deluxe room is very spacious but so run down with a broken closet door, 2 knobs missing, precarious ceiling fan with a bare bulb. The light flicked in and off in the double bed room and some broken blinds. It was so run down but actually completely clean.
The pool was dirty and some guests decided to get to the equipment and cleaned it but also put chemicals in and openly said that the test called corn10 and she put 15.
The area is very loud. We did enjoy the walk downtown. And it was actually really clean.

First and foremost, the exterior of the property gives a fairly decent impression. However, the issues begin as soon as you step inside the rooms.

The air conditioning was not functioning—something absolutely essential given Vernon’s high summer temperatures. The bathroom was dirty, as were the towels, and there were hairs scattered throughout the room. To make matters worse, the window blind was broken, which was particularly inconvenient since the window was the only way for cool air to circulate.

On Saturday at 7:00 AM, loud music started blaring from one of the rooms, and the staff did nothing to address the situation. The same thing happened again later that night.

However, the most disappointing part of the experience was the attitude of the front desk attendant. He was dismissive and unprofessional when concerns were raised, and seemed visibly annoyed when receiving feedback. Furthermore, he does not allow check-out before 9:00 AM, as he claims it interferes with his sleep schedule. This is particularly problematic for travelers who have an early itinerary or long drive ahead.

In short, if you're looking for rest, comfort, and a welcoming environment, I would strongly advise against staying at this property.

This place was not good, in fact it was disgusting and dirty with a side of sketchy as hell! The second I drove into the lot it was apparent that I made a mistake. I stayed, reluctantly, and left as soon as I could in the morning. Just avoid this place, trust me!

The people hanging around outside were sketchy, and a lot of them were probably on sketchy drugs. It was horrible! And I'm really not a picky person!

The room wasn't very clean, the floor made my sucks black, the shower was crap and the property did not look well maintained. Apparently there's a pool but I walked along the building and couldn't find it, but probably wouldn't go in just by seeing the building and cleaning standards of the owners.

Just do yourself a favour and find another option. This place is horrible

The property was rundown, it’s an older property that has been minimally maintained. The manager said he would be back at 9 am for check out and we left at 9:30 and he still had. It showed up. There was a homeless encampment across the street, which made the stay a bit uneasy. The room was clean considering the age of the building. This place could definitely use some upkeep .

Our bathroom was missing a shower curtain, the coffee maker basket was moldy. I’m pretty sure that they only regularly wash the sheets and the toilet. The walls, bathroom sink, and floor were dirty. The bed was comfortable, though lacking in the usual level of pillows and blankets.

It’s sad because this place could be a really good motel with some more daily care and a good scrub. At some point, they were clearly trying to make a nice comfortable place, but the maintenance just isn’t there.

I saw a good relationship between some of the patrons and the owners. And one of the guys who worked there, noticed that our keys were still in the door and gave them to us… overall our experience with them was pretty good but the motel just needs a lot more love.

It was $100 cheaper than everywhere else within a 50 km radius and I suppose we got what we paid for.

I booked a standard room through Expedia, but despite showing them my confirmation number, they were unable to find my reservation, and had no standard rooms available. I ended up being charged an extra $50 for a \"balcony room\". Given the error, i should have been given whatever room was available for the price of the standard room. This is a subpar place- not terrible, but not great, which I was expecting. That would have been fine for the original price I paid, but it definitely wasnt worth the extra $50. I'm not sure if the problem was Expedia's or the motel's, but I hope they sort it out so that others aren't put in a similar position.

The place itself smells odd lik cigar smoke and some unpleasant stuff. Lots of questionable people hanging around. I just didnt feel comfortable so I checked out asap.

The receptionist/ owner I presume was so rude and took 250 for dd and as we wanted to leave at 9:15 he wasn’t in the office and trying to get hold of him seem to be still sleeping told me that he may be in until 10:30 or 11 with out explaining and didn’t wanna give me the dd back until I got mad and wanted to called the police I was leaving bc and had to call him several times was the worse person I have meet and there’s a lot of weird people always hanging around felt really uncomfortable and unsafe

The property was full of high drug addicts and. The hot tub was luke warm at best, and advertised heated pool was freezing cold. Would never recommend anyone to stay there... very unsafe

I have been staying at the schell motel every year for the past 6 years to visit my grandparents in Vernon and wow has this place gone to the dumps. The first room we were given wasn’t cleaned, and clearly had been smoked in as well within being there for 2 minutes we had a homeless gentleman knocking on our door. We then transferred to a room upstairs which had cigarette burns in all of the bedding. And again had homeless people banging on our door at 7 in the morning, my daughter and I felt extremely unsafe. Clearly the drug addicted homeless have now moved into this motel, and the staff don’t do anything to maintain it. The pool wasn’t cleaned and filled with leaves plus we had to open it ourselves in the middle of the day. We will never stay here ever again, I miss the little old lady who used to run the motel. She was amazing. 10/10 do not recommend staying there.

Room we were first set up in smelled like an ash tray, had dirty towels on the floor, so we moved to another room. Questionable characters coming and going (drug users) Pool out of order, broken chairs, most certainly not looking like the photos advertised.

These units need a LOT of work.

Not enough outlets.

The one behind the TV has 6 things plugged into it including microwave and fridge.

Bathtub does not drain.

Desk and furniture way too large for the size of the unit. Can get to the few outlets they have.

Volume on TV did not work with remote so sound was full blast

Has 12 cup coffee maker and they supply 2 individual coffee packets typically used in individual cup machines.

The room we stayed in had bugs in the bathroom. The room smelled like an ashtray, it hadn't been cleaned in at least two week from all the dust/dirt and past guests receipt on the floor. The floors were so dirty that threw out the socks when had worn inside because they turned pitch black and we had to wear our shoes inside for the rest ofnthe stay.

I slept on a pull out bed but there was no sheets or pillows for it. I went to the drive-in and didn't get back till 2:00 so couldn't tell anyone, too late.
I did inform manager in the morning. They did nothing to compensate me for the mess up. I had a terrible sleep and needed a 4 hour nap the next day. I had to use the blanket off the double bed to lay on and the bedspread as my blanket. The chairs by the pool were broken.

Meth head/ Pill Popper Heaven! Stay Away!

First of all, I have never actually taken the time to leave any kind of a review for any hotel found on Hotels.com other than a thumbs up!
Unfortunately the Schell Motel also known as Vernon's Grand Central Station for dope deals, is by far the absolute worst hotel/motel, I have ever come across. For comparison this place is on par with the former Albany and Barry Hotels in Saskatoon, (Google for reference). To say I was deceived by the pics on the internet would be abit of an understatement. On day 1 of our \"family trip\" I was greeted by the two trolls that \"manage\" this dump. About an hour later while I sat on the patio after unpacking, I watched the female troll lean the hood of my truck with one of their many \"longterm tenants\" aka meth head/pill popper and then proceed to start writing on the hood of my $80k truck! After I called her out from the patio and walked down the stairs to see the damage, she first tried to deny writing anything then immediately admitted to her stupidity. On our first night I must have witnessed atleast 50 drug transactions take place out of suite 101, aka Vernon's #1 drug dealer as my neighbor Jon in suite 207 put it. In the am after grabbing a Timmies and while waiting for my wife/kids to wake-up I sat on the patio and watched \"my\"/ \"your\" tax dollars hard at work, as the paramedics administered Narcan! Male Troll is fully aware of this BS, and is 100% ok with it! He says they're slowly moving them out. Liar!
Hotels.com should be ashamed!
